Caroline Barbera, formerly of Hughestown, died Saturday.
Born May 30, 1920, she was the daughter Clarissa and Roy Tischler. She was a member of the congregation of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hughestown, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She was also a member of the Lutheran Church Women and the Altar Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio; brothers , August and Edwin Hintze; and sisters , Doris and June Tischler.
Surviving are her son, Bruce, Doylestown; one granddaughter; nephews and their children.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mountainview Cemetery, Route 92, Harding.
Barbini, Helen

Helen A. Barbini, 82, of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Valley Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township.
Born March 13, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Dominic P. and Christina (Dalsasso) Baiz. A lifelong area resident, she was a 1935 graduate of Coughlin High School. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario J.; and brothers , Chris Baiz, Alfred Baiz and Robert Pesavento.
Surviving are her daughters , Annette M. Barbini, Wilkes-Barre; Elaine Morehead, Cranford, N.J.; and Marilyn Lucchino, Laflin; son, Barry, Leesburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Rose B. Rossi, and brother, Eugene Pesavento, both of Wilkes-Barre.
Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 this evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Osterhout Free Library, 71 S. John J. Barbose Sr., of Swoyersville, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

STANLEY BARCHIK
April 26, 1999
Stanley "Stan" C. Barchik, 65, of Benton R.R. 2, died Monday in Springfield, Mo., at St. John's Regional Health Care Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 21. He was stricken ill while traveling in Missouri.
Born May 22, 1933, in the Wanamie section of Newport Township, he was a son of the late Frank Barchik Sr. and Mary (Falkowski) Barchik. He was a 1951 graduate of Huntington Mills High School.
In his younger years, he worked for G&M Convoy, Inc., and Kenosha Automobile Transports. He also was a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines.
He and his family moved to Benton in 1969 and purchased the former Ross Harrison's IGA Store on Market Street in Benton. He also operated the Skating Rink in Benton from 1970 to 1971. He later moved the supermarket to the skating rink facility, which became Stan and sons , Inc., and of which he was president. In 1985, he founded Barchik's Car Wash.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the
Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953.
He had been a member of the Columbia County Farmer's National Bank board of directors since 1985. He was a member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Benton, the Boy Scouts of America, the Knights of Columbus Council 10882 of Benton, and Millville American Legion Post 564.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward W. Barchik.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret "Marge" Kubasek, with whom he celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary last Sept. 10th; sons , Carl S., Stillwater R.R. 1; and Kenneth A., Shickshinny Lake; two granddaughters, brothers Frank, Jr., Benton R.R. 1; Robert, Cambra; and Raymond, Benton; and sisters , Joann Zumpano, Northfield, N.J.; and Bernadine Pierontoni, Shickshinny.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Church on Mendenhall Lane in Benton, with burial in St. Martha's Cemetery in Fairmount Township.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening at the McMichael Funeral Home, Benton R.R. 2 (state Route 487). A Christian wake service will be conducted at 8 p.m., followed by a service by the Benton Knights of Columbus, Council 10882, who will also provide an honor guard.
Michael Baretsky

Michael Baretsky, 84, of First Street, Lyndwood, Hanover Township, died Sunday at the family home.
Born in Plymouth, Aug. 1, 1913, he was the son of the late Michael and Susan Steve (Borecky) Baretsky.
He graduated from Hanover High School in 1932.
He resided in Lyndwood, Hanover Township, for most of his life.
He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Kingston.
Before retiring, he was employed at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, as a clerk for many years.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 38th Engineering Regiment in the European Theater and the African Theater. He was involved with the D-Day invasion at Utah Beach and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of VFW Anthracite Post 283, Kingston, American Legion Post 945, Wormleysburg, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the Hanover Township Ambulance Association.
Surviving are his sisters Mary Koliga, at home; Ann Kochevar, Kingston; Dorothy Bedosky, West Wyoming; Helen Bronesky, Mequon, Wisc.; Margaret Cowan, Auburn, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 West Main St., Plymouth, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Kingston.
Interment will be in the SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Parastas services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Ted Krepp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Care of the VNA, 667 North River St., Wilkes-Barre.
Anna Barnick

Anna (Gdovin) Barnick, 93, of East Thomas Street, Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre and formerly of Charles Street, Ashley, died Friday at Valley Crest Nursing Center, Plains Township.
Born in Ashley, Jan. 14, 1905, she was the daughter of the late John and Susan Pavuk Gdovin.
She attended the Ashley school.
She was a resident of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre for most of her life.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jr., in 1966; son, Joseph III, in 1955; brothers George, John, Thomas, Andrew, Michael and Joseph Gdovin; sister, Mrs. Mary Svetz, in 1963.
Surviving are her sons Thomas, Wilkes-Barre; Bernard, at home, with whom she resided; sisters Mrs. Martha Breznay and Miss Susan Gdovin, both of Flemington, N.J.; Mrs. Catherine Raymonds, Pittstown, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Ashley.
Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Arrangements are by the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, Ashley.
John Barna

John Barna, of School Street, Freeland, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Sandy Run, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna (Litchko) Barna.
He lived in the Freeland area for his entire life.
He was a graduate of MMI Preparatory School, Freeland, in 1940.
During World War II, he was employed in the Baltimore shipyards, Maryland.
Before retiring, he was a machinist at Barret-Haentjens, Hazleton.
He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Freeland.
He was preceded in death by brothers Fred Jr. and Michael; sister, Martha Barna.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Margaret Balyo; sons John R., South Sterling; Ronald, Freeland; Dr. Nicholas Barna, Mountaintop; brothers Thomas, Haddock; and Emil, Freeland; sisters Anna Bzdil-Stone, Freeland; Mrs. John (Mary J.) Pusti, Hazleton; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday from the McNulty Funeral Home, Centre Street, Freeland. Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Panahida service will be Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

BARNES, JOHN

John S. Barnes Sr., of Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.
Born Feb. 1, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late William and Anna (Simpkins) Barnes. He attended GAR Memorial High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War.
He was employed as a carpenter for various construction companies throughout the Wyoming Valley before his retirement. He was also a professional musician and played with bands in Pennsylvania , New York and New Jersey.
He was a past master of Prince Hall Golden Rule Lodge 15, F&AM.
Surviving are his son, John, Jr., Mountaintop; and Brian, Wilkes-Barre; three grandchildren; sisters , Georgette Mealing, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Anna Taylor, Philadelphia; Joan Childs, Walhalla, S.C.; Marsha Smith Barnes, Wilkes-Barre; Carolyn Turner, Newburgh, N.Y.; and Betty Daniels, Wilkes-Barre; and brothers , William, Jr., Wilkes-Barre; the Rev. Robert Barnes, Otisville, N.Y.; and Raymond, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Wallace Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hanover Township.
