ALBERT J. TOKARCHIK AGE: 88 Of: Election House Road, Butler passed away Monday evening at Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born September 17, 1916 in North Braddock, and was the son of Joseph and Anna Tokarchik. He was a member at St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church, and the Slovak Catholic Union. He was retired from US Steel. He is survived by his two sons that he made his home with: Albert N. Tokarchik of Round Rock, Texas Ronald J. Takarchik of Election House Road, Butler 3 Grandsons 2 Great Grandsons He was preceded in death by: His wife Jane Tokarchik, whom he married June 6, 1943 and she passed away March 4, 1995, and One Brother. CHARLES WILLIAM “BILL” GRIFFIN AGE: 81 Of the Lowrie House at Stirling Village, formally of Prospect passed away Sunday at Noon at the Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born June 25, 1923 in Smithfield, PA and was the son of Francis M. and Mary Ella (Rohrer) Griffin. He was a life long farmer in Prospect, where he farmed Potatoes, Oats, Corn, Hay, and had raised Cattle. He was retired from the US Postal Service, where he was a Mail Carrier in the Butler Area, and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where he had belonged to the Christian Fellowship Class. He enjoyed going to the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center, the Senior Center at Tanglewood, and playing cards. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was born April 30, 1929 on his family’s farm in Lancaster Township, and was the son of Gladys Kniess Rice and the late Emmet C. Rice. He was a life-long farmer. He raised beef, chickens, hogs, and dairy cattle. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Stone Church. He enjoyed target shooting, and competing at trap shoots. He was born May 2, 1927 in Russelton, Pa, and was the son of Michael and Catherine Roginski Ezatoff. He was retired from the Coal Mines, where he worked in the maintenance department. He previously owned and operated the Bakerstown Hotel for many years. He was an avid fisherman, bowler, and Harley rider. He was a Disabled American Veteran. HAROLD LEROY CUNNINGHAM AGE: 83 of 125 Golden Lane, Butler passed away Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Tennessee Christian Medical Center, near his son’s home. He was born January 10, 1922 in Carmichael, Pa and was the son of Roy and Violet (Clark) Cunningham. He was a retired laborer from plastic fabricating. He was an US Army Air Corp. Veteran, where he was in the 1876 Engineer Aviation Battalion. He was a Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion Post 642 in Chicora. He belonged to the Laborers International Union. He enjoyed bird watching, and exploring the internet on his computer. He is survived by: His wife: Charlotte Mcklveen Cunningham, whom he married September 18, 1941. She enjoyed Camping near Warren PA, her hobbies included Cooking, sewing, quilting, and knitting. Survived by her husband, three sons , Karl F. Herold, Jr. of Butler, David G. Herold of Prospect, and Richard L. Herold of Butler, six grandchildren, ten great Grandchildren. Preceded by her parents, and one brother, Omar King. HAROLD LEWIS BLOOM AGE: 83 OF White stown Rd, Butler passed away unexpectantly at his residence Monday evening. He was born April 1, 1922 in Meridian and was the son of Andrew F. and Hazel (Wick) Bloom. Mr. Bloom is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler. Mr. Bloom was a member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during WWII, and participated in the Allied invasions of Northern Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Salerno, and the Battle of the Buldge. After the war, he returned home to farm and to operate “Bloom’s Doorstep Grocery,” a business supplying groceries to rural homes and farms. He subsequently became a fertilizer and chemical salesman for over 45 years, working for Central Chemical Corporation and Hoopes Fertilizer Works of Ohio. Mr. Harold Bloom was also very actively involved in the Democratic Party, serving as the Butler County Democratic Party Treasurer and as a Democratic committeeman for Connoquenessing Township. In addition, Mr. Bloom was recognized by former Governor Thomas Ridge for voting in every election for 50 consecutive years. Mr. Bloom was a Connoquenessing Township Supervisor for 30 years, and at one time, he was the Civil Defense Director for the township. He is survived by: His wife, Lilian Davies Petracco Bloom, whom he married September 18, 1981. One son and daughter-in-law: Robert L. and Barbara Bloom of Gainesville Texas . John Steven Sharkey Age: 72 Of Ridge Road, Franklin Twp. passed away Tuesday morning at his residence following an illness. He was born November 3, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA and was the son of Joseph and Sadie Niedermyer Sharkey. He was a member of St. Christopher At The Lake Catholic Church. He retired from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, where he was a Driver since 1968. He was a US Army Veteran. He enjoyed camping, fishing, yard work, his grandchildren, and was an avid Steeler’s Fan. He is survived by his wife: Catherine Glasl Sharkey, whom he married January 21, 1961 Five sons and their Wives: Darryl and Lori Sharkey of Petersburg, VA Alan Sharkey Larry Sharkey Kevin and Iris Sharkey Danny and Shannon Sharkey All of Butler One Daughter: Leighann Sharkey and her fiancé John Conner of Butler Six Grandchildren: Bianca, Steven, Larry (L.J.), Sammy, Taylor, and Zachary. Rev. William G. “Bill” Steiner AGE: 74 of Evans, Georgia, formerly of Prospect, passed away Thursday morning, May 22, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospice. He was a native of Hempfield Township, PA, he has been a resident of the Augusta. Georgia area since moving from western Pennsylvania in June of 1996. Reverend Steiner has served as a Lutheran Minister for approximately 50 years in western PA. A 1950 graduate of Thiel College, he received English Degree from Thiel and continued his education, graduating froom the Philadelphia Lutheran Seminary, with his Master’s Degree in Divinity. Pastor Steiner was ordained on May 27, 1953 as a Lutheran Minister after which time he served as the Pastor of St. Peter’s Evangelical Church, North East, PA for 16 years, and following this Pastorate, continued his ministry at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Prospect, PA for an additional 20 years. He had also served as the Program Director at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect and various church associated boards and committees. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Steiner of Evans, GA. Two daughters , Signe A. Erne and her husband, Dr. Jerel (Jim) Erne, of Evans, GA and Leah Abbey of Richmond, VA. Two sons , Mark Steiner and his wife, Melissa of Lanham, MD and Rev. Roger Steiner and his Wife Gwen, Turtle Creek, PA. One sister, Becky Olson Murphy of Jeannette, PA and six grandchildren: Alona Abbey, David Abbey and his wife Bridget, Jonathan Steiner Michelle Steiner Kirsten Steiner Blaine Shanstrom Three great grandchildren, Dani, David and Keith Abbey, and a fraternal son, Howard Erne, Evans, GA. A Memorial Celebration will be Saturday, May 31st , at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Prospect, PA at 4:00 PM, with Bishop Donald McCoid, Bishop of the South Western PA Synod of the ELCA, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, North East, PA.
