LAWRENCE J. DeVINE

Lawrence J. DeVine, 70, of Hummelstown, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at his home.

Born in Harrisburg on December 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. DeVine, Sr., and Violet Carr Smith.

He retired as a machine operator from the former Thomas J. Lipton Company. He was an Air Force veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Lawrence was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687, Hummelstown; and a former member of the American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown, and the Hershey Italian Lodge. He was a former drummer for the “The Hawaiian Playboys”.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Capita DeVine, whom he married November 29, 1959; one daughter, Cynthia J. Pelko wife of Mark D. Pelko; three sons , Lawrence J. DeVine, III, and Michael A. DeVine and his wife Carolina G. DeVine both of Hummelstown, and William C. Bricker of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Ashley S. Bricker of Harrisburg, Kristopher R. DeVine of Enola, and Daniel O. Bricker and Tiffany M. DeVine both of Hummelstown; and one great granddaughter, Hailey Bricker of Harrisburg.

A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2004, at 7:15 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Fr. Philip G. Burger as officiant. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 PM. A military Memorial Service will be held Friday at 7 PM in the funeral home.

MABEL M. STOTZ

Mabel M. Groff Stotz, 81, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, September 10, 2004, in her home.

A private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 100 East Brown Street Suite 23, Middletown, PA 17057.

WESLEY L. GEIB

Wesley L. Geib, 69, of Halifax, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, in the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.

Born in Hershey on August 7, 1935, he was the son of Alma Shirk Geib Hall of Hershey and the late Roy Koons Geib.

He retired as a union sheet metal worker. He had attended Hershey High School. Wesley was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Halifax Congregation. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 19; and the Hummelstown Shooters Club where he had won several trophies.

In addition to his mother , Wesley is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Martin Geib with whom he would have celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary on September 14th; one daughter, Janice Geib; one step son, John K. Martin of Lebanon; one sister, Geri Hayes of Harrisburg; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with Brother George T. Lau officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 AM until time of the services.

TEMPERENCE “Becky” H. THOMAS

Temperence “Becky” Hornberger Thomas, 78, of Hummelstown, passed away, Friday, September 3, 2004, at her daughter’s residence in Hummelstown.

Born in Shamokin on July 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Bryan and Temperence Cooper Hornberger.

Becky was a homemaker who loved to bake and cook. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown.

Becky was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Thomas, on October 31, 1998.

She is survived by three daughters , Cheryl M. Parr, Bonnie L. wife of Darrel L. Wagner and Cindy L. wife of Glenn R. Monn all of Hummelstown; two brothers , Charles Hornberger of Northumberland and Albert Hornberger of Mahanoy City; one sister, Dorothy Tehansky of Hummelstown; seven grandchildren, Amy L. Parr, Brianna R. Wagner, Amber R. Monn and Courtney E. Monn all of Hummelstown, Brandi L. wife of Gregg Fasnacht of Palmyra, Robert A. Parr of California, and Brooke E. wife of Michael Ludwig of Maytown; and two great grandsons, Thomas James “T.J.” Fasnacht and Trevor L. Fasnacht both of Palmyra.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons , Jimmy Thomas in 1951 and Randy Thomas in 1953, and two brothers , Richard Hornberger and John Hornberger.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 1 PM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Thomas E. Karge, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday at the church from 11 AM until time of the services.

VICTOR S. COTTINGHAM

Victor S. Cottingham, 85, of Chambers Hill, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005, in the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born in Swatara Township on February 24, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Louisa M. Wolfersberger Eisenhauer.

He was a retired union woodworker, and had worked for the former Community Bowling Lanes in Hummelstown, the former Hess Ford of Hershey, and the former Presbyterian Apartments. He was a graduate of Hershey High School. He was a member of the Union Deposit United Methodist Church and its Men’s Bible Class. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #364 of Hershey. He was a pilot who enjoyed flying his own plane.

Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Rayetta R. Shaffer Cottingham, on March 16, 1994.

Victor is survived by a companion, Margie Wilt Forney of Camp Hill; one sister, Margaret J. wife of Robert Barnhart of Elizabethtown; two brothers , Darvin R. Eisenhauer of Grantville and Leon C. Eisenhauer of Royal Palm Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at 1 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Thomas R. Searfoss, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Tuesday from 12 noon until time of the services.

MARGARET S. PETERS

Margaret S. Peters, resident of The Middletown Home and formerly of Rutherford Heights entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at the nursing home.

Mrs. Peters was retired from Hershey Foods Corporation, she had worked there for 42 years. She was born December 2, 1918, in Newville to the late Mrs. Mina (Hurley) Stricker and Robert E. Stricker.

Mrs. Peters was the widow of John B. Peters. She was also predeceased in death by her twin sister Mrs. Mary Rovak and brother Robert Stricker. She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Margaret was a kind loving person and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Arrangements will be handled by Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. of Hummelstown.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends are invited to remember Margaret at a memorial service on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at 2:30 PM at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Peters name to the Bethesda Mission, PO Box 3041, Harrisburg, PA 17105.

TERRY E. FUNCK

Terry E. Funck, 64, of Palmyra, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005, at his home of natural causes.

Born in Hummelstown on September 21, 1940, he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Ethel R. Jones Funck.

He retired from the former San Georgio Company, Lebanon, and had worked at the former King Kup Candies, Lebanon, and the former Schrafts Candies, Reading. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Chocolate Workers Union Local 464, Hershey.

Terry is survived by one brother, Raymond L. Funck of Wernersville; one sister, Pauline V. wife of Robert J. Bortz of Reading; one step-brother, John Powell, Jr. of Annville; his companion, Mary Blough of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers , Dennis C. Funck, Daniel R. Funck and Kenneth P. Funck.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with Pastor Vincent C. Viozzi officiating. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Viewing will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 10 AM until time of the services.

TARA R. OLSZEWSKI

Tara Rae Olszewski, 20, of Hummelstown, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005, in the Hershey Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident.

Born in Middletown on December 23, 1984, she was the daughter of Michael A. and Loretta M. Buckley Olszewski with whom she lived.

She worked with her Father at Olszewski Construction, Hummelstown, and was formerly employed in the Mail Room of The Patriot News. She was a member of the 2002 Cosmetology Class of the Dauphin County Technical School. Tara enjoyed four wheeling, hiking, the beach, and hanging out with her friends. She loved animals especially her two dogs Roxi and Mini.

In addition to her parents, Tara is survived by one sister, Brandy L. wife of Jason Nornhold of Newport; two brothers , Michael Brandon Olszewski of Chambers Hill and Robert A. Olszewski at home; her paternal grandparents, Gloria V. DiAiuto Olszewski of Chambers Hill, and Richard A. and Sandy L. Olszewski of Hummelstown; maternal grandparents, Robert S. and Lucille H. Charles Buckley of Harrisburg; paternal aunts and uncles, Richard L. Olszewski of Steelton, Gloria Ann and Charles Peifer and Ida M. and Michael McMurray all of Chambers Hill, and Andrew T. and Rachel Olszewski of Hummelstown; maternal aunts and uncles, Carolyn DeChamplain and Paul Moore of Mechanicsburg, and Holly and Dave Vandergrift of Middletown; two nieces, Kaelyn Nornhold and Rilee Nornhold of Newport; and numerous cousins.

Tara was preceded in death by an uncle, Robert S. Buckley, Jr. and an aunt, Sharon R. Olszewski.

A Prayer Service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2005, at 8:00 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Msgr. Hugh A. Overbaugh of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Harrisburg, as officiant. A private inurnment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call Saturday in the funeral home from 6:00 PM until time of the services.

Due to Tara’s love of children and animals, the family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc., East Shore Shelter, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.

MARY K. ROLLIN

Mary Keim Rollin, 88, of the Homeland Center, Harrisburg, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, January 24, 2005, in the home.

Born in Danville on June 9, 1916, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Iva Raup Keim.

She was a homemaker. She was a 1934 graduate of Danville High School. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Polyclinic Hospital. Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown, and its Challengers Sunday School Class; and was a former member of Riverside Methodist Church, Harrisburg. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and bird watching.

Mary is survived by one son, John L. Rollin, Jr. and his wife Lucinda K. Ferencz Rollin of Hummelstown; and two grandsons, David A. Rollin of Newport, RI, and Stephen Tyler Rollin of Marlborough, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005, at 11 AM in Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. John W. Betlyon, her pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received at the church Friday from 10:30 AM until time of the services.

CHARLES W. DIEVENDORF

Charles Wing Dievendorf, 58, of Hummelstown, and formerly of Anaheim Hills, CA, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, on September 12, 1946, he was the son of the late J. Paul and Syrena Steere Dievendorf.

He was Director of Sales for Jobar International, Inc. of California. He was a 1968 graduate of the former Pennsylvania military College (PMC), Chester, and a 1964 graduate of Canajoharie High School, Canajoharie, NY. Charlie was a US Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star for his service in the Vietnam War where he was a helicopter pilot. He was a life member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association; a member of the PMC Band and the college band’s Museum Committee, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 23, Lebanon. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 31 years, Michaelann Donley Dievendorf whom he married on September 15, 1973; a sister-in-law and her husband, Maxine Donley Umberger and Randall L. Umberger of Hummelstown; a nephew and his wife, Jason D. and Teresa S. Campbell Umberger of Hershey,; a niece and her husband, Megan Umberger Robbins and Travis Robbins of San Antonio, TX; two great nieces, Alyssa S. Umberger and Leah M. Umberger both of Hershey; a great nephew, Gavin R. Robbins of San Antonio, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from New York and New England.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Tuesday, January 25, 2005, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM and Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, National Council, P.O. Box 152079, Irving, TX, 75015-2079; or to the PMC Museum, c/o Development Office, Widener University, One University Place, Chester, PA 19013.

WARREN H. MILLER

Warren Henry Miller, 87, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005, in the Hershey Medical Center.

He was born in Rutherford Heights on June 16, 1917, where he lived most of his life. He was the son of the late William Henry Garfield Miller and Edith Curry Finfrock Miller.

Warren was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Rutherford, where he held the positions of Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. He graduated from Swatara High School in 1935. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked in various management positions at the former Olmsted Air Force Base and New Cumberland Army Depot, retiring in 1974 after a career of 32 years. He was very active in the Rutherford Heights Lions Club, having received the Melvin P. Jones Award for exceptional service.

Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda M. Noblet Miller, on August 17, 2003, after a marriage of nearly 65 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Deanna N. Taylor of Mechanicsburg; and a son, Warren Keene Miller of New London. He is also survived by four grandsons, Christopher F. Huebner of Shippensburg, Matthew T. Huebner of Bloomsburg, Jeffrey S. Miller of Hong Kong, and Eric R. Miller of Newark, DE; a great granddaughter, Lauren Miller of Newark, DE; a brother, E. Bruce Miller of Jackson, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2005, at 2 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Gary C. Luckenbill, pastor of Clarks Valley Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday from 1:30 PM until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 165 North 67th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111, or to Frey Village Retirement Center, 1020 North Union Street, Middletown, PA 17057.
