LEWIS E. DUNCAN
Lewis E. Duncan, 69, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2004, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Township.
Born in Highspire on February 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Lewis E. Duncan Sr. and Carrie Coates Duncan. He retired from the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he had worked in the 20 inch Mill Department. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a fan of John Wayne and Johnny Cash, and was an avid Steelers Football Team fan.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary C. Kauffman Duncan whom he married on March 23, 1957; two daughters , Debbie M. wife of Robert L. Nye and Linda L. Duncan both of Hummelstown; two sons , Ronald E. Duncan of Scranton and Randy A. Duncan of Hummelstown; one sister, Betty Fishinger of Highspire; six grandchildren, Michelle L. wife of Tom Lentz of Campbelltown, and Jessica A. Nye, Michael P. Garrison, Melissa S. Garrison, Robin L. Mitchell and Ryan M. Duncan all of Hummelstown; and four great grandchildren, Autumn Lentz and Tommy Lentz both of Campbelltown, and Eddie Williams and Austin Williams both of Hummelstown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Raymond “Red” Duncan and Ivan Duncan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Viewing will be in the funeral home Monday, April 19, 2004, from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of the services.
RUSSELL D. HOERNER
Russell D. Hoerner, 75, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Middletown on March 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Elwood D. and Dorothy Pearl Chestnut Hoerner. He was a self-employed plumber operating Hoerner’s Plumbing & Heating. Russ was a 1948 graduate of Milton Hershey High School. He was an Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown; and was a former member of the Sand Hill Lions Club.
Russell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marge McDaniel Hoerner whom he married on August 11, 1951; one daughter, Sheila A. wife of Chuck Flaherty of Richfield; one son, Michael D. Hoerner and his wife Tina Kreiser Hoerner of Hershey; one brother, Robert Hoerner of Annville; two sisters , Romaine Shuey of Palmyra and Pauline wife of Lloyd Walborn of Annville; one step-sister, Darlene Hoerner of Hawaii; three grandchildren, Leslie wife of Chad Henry of Richfield, Megan Hoerner and Matthew Hoerner both of Hershey; one step-granddaughter, Amanda Schreffler of Middletown; and one great grandson, Garrett Henry of Richfield.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers , Paul Hoerner and Harold Hoerner.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 19, 2004, at 11:00 AM in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Emlyn H. Jones, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Monday in the church from 10:00 AM until time of the services.

MARGARET E. ENGLE
Margaret E. Holbert Engle, 89, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and formerly of Harrisburg and Winona Lake, IN, entered the presence of her Savior on Saturday, April 10, 2004, at her home.
Born in Harrisburg on February 19, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Ralph M. and Mina V. Blosser Holbert. She retired from Peabody ABC, Winona Lake, IN; and was employed at the former Hesteco Dress & Sportswear Manufacturing Company in Hummelstown and Elizabethtown. She was a member of the Melrose Gardens Grace Brethren Church, Harrisburg. She was a volunteer for the Lakeland Child Evangelism Fellowship in Winona Lake, IN, for 12 years where she taught Bible clubs and had worked in its center.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Engle, on March 16, 1957; two daughters , Judy Calvin in January of 1998 and an infant daughter; seven brothers ; and two sisters .
She is survived by one son, Cary Lee Engle and his wife Barbara Echard Engle of Lemoyne; one daughter, Patsy Ann Pacheco and her husband The Rev. Eloy Pacheco of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; one brother, Jay W. Holbert of Naples, FL; one sister, Mary Jane Parkhill of Kathleen, Georgia; seven grandchildren; and four great grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 16, 2004, at 12:00 noon in the Melrose Gardens Grace Brethren Church, 2205 Swatara Street, Harrisburg, with The Rev. Eloy Pacheco, her son-in-law, and The Rev. Alan Echard, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. RAYMOND M. ROUSH
Raymond M. Roush, 73, of Jonestown, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.
Born in Hummelstown on March 10, 1931, he was the son of the late Arthur M. and Fannie Gipe Roush. He worked part-time as a driver for Hertz Rent a Car at Harrisburg International Airport. He retired from the Maintenance Department of the New Cumberland Army Department, and had been an X-ray technician at New Cumberland and at the former Valley Forge Army Hospital and Olmsted Air Force Base. He was a 1949 graduate of Hershey High School. He was an Air Force veteran having served as a medic in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict.
Raymond is survived by one brother, George L. Roush of Jonestown; 4 nephews; 1 great niece; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at 12 noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Ronald G. VanBlargan officiating. BEATRICE H. SHEFFER
Beatrice H. “Bea” Spahr Sheffer, 89, of Paxtang, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her home.
Born in Warrington Twp. on February 2, 1915, she was the daughter of the late George Elmer and Esther Mae Zeigler Spahr. She was a sales clerk for 16 years for the former Bowman’s Department Store; and worked for the former Elicker Fruits for 12 years and Bairs Chicken for 4 years at Kline Village Farmers Market.
Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur A. Sheffer, on December 23, 1992.
She is survived by one son, Elden D. Sheffer of Hershey; two daughters , Corrine E. wife of Kenneth E. Felty of Chambers Hill, and Deborah L. wife of Larry D. Wilson of Bressler; two sisters , Anna M. Stough of Mechanicsburg and Jean L. Heberlig of Wellsville; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at 11:00 AM in the Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry.

DAVID L. CARRINGTON
David Lee Carrington, 40, of Hummelstown, PA, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2004, at his residence.
He was born in Auburn on January 20, 1964. He was a chef. He was a 1982 graduate of Auburn High School, and 1987 graduate of James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. He was a member of the Certified Executive Culinary Chefs; enjoyed woodworking, cars and had attended the Skip Barber Racing School.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. Youtz Carrington, whom he married on June 14, 2003; a step-daughter, Alexandra N. Hargraves, at home; his parents, E. Terry and Eileen M. Matro of Cato, NY; a brother, Jack Carrington and his wife Lisa Carrington of Ovid, NY; a nephew Paul Carrington of Auburn; a niece, Julie Carrington of Auburn; and his beloved retriever, Kodi.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 11:00 AM in the Stoverdale United Methodist Church, Middletown Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Joann M. Darrow, pastor of Stoverdale United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church following the committal service at the cemetery.

ROBERT D. ATKINSON
Robert D. Atkinson, 57, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2004, at his home.
Born in Carbondale on May 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Robert D. and Miriam Swindlehurst Atkinson. He has been employed by Tyco Inc. since 1982 where he has worked in the Global Marketing & Development Department. He was a Reading teacher for Lower Dauphin School District from 1969 to 1971; and was a Biology Teacher and the Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the Middletown School District from 1971 to 1982. He was a 1965 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, where he was a star basketball player; a 1969 graduate of Lebanon Valley College; and received his master’s degree in Business Administration from Penn State University.
Bob was a PIAA Basketball Official for 25 years. He was a member of Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey. He was a private pilot and member of the Airplane Owner’s Pilots Association. He was also a member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a former building contractor who enjoyed building houses, flower gardening and landscaping. Bob was best described as a “Renaissance Man”.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara J. Macaw Atkinson whom he married on June 7, 1969; two sons , Chad R. Atkinson and his wife Tania Nolden Atkinson of Mountville, and Brian D. Atkinson and his wife Jamie Eifert Atkinson of Hummelstown; two brothers , Kenneth L. Atkinson and his wife Barbara Grella Atkinson of Olyphant, and David E. Atkinson and his wife Cheryl Rahlfs Atkinson of Pallo Alto, CA; one sister, Susan A. Lewis wife of Clifford L. Lewis of Hummelstown; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was looking forward to be a grandfather to a baby boy in December.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at 7:30 PM in the Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey, with The Rev. Dr. Richard L. Houtz and The Rev. Dr. Marie L. Buffaloe, his pastors, officiating. Friends are invited to call at the church Wednesday from 4:30 PM until time of the services.
Interment will be on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at 11 AM in the Hershey Cemetery.

CATHERINE A. HUGHES
Catherine A. Hughes, 77, of Chambers Hill, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2004, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Township. Born in Wilkes Barre on August 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Henrietta Thomas Wolfe.
She retired from the K-Mart Corporation where she had been the office manager for the Hummelstown and Harrisburg stores. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed painting.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Hughes, on October 27, 1999.
She was survived by several nieces and nephews.

DOROTHY A. DOVE
Dorothy A. Stone Dove, 69, of Hershey, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, September 29, at her residence.
Born in Edgewood, MD, on April 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Hazel G. Ruppert Stone.
She had been employed at Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers in Hummelstown for over 4 years, and had served for 17 years as the custodian for The Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. She was a 1953 graduate of Hershey High School. She was a member of The Grace United Methodist Church and its Church Choir and Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and was a former 4th and 5th grade Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed gardening.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bruce E. Dove, whom she married on April 4, 1954; three sons , Ronald E. Dove husband of Linda Boyer Dove of Fredericksburg, Ricky L. Dove husband of Connie Wenrich Dove of Lebanon, and Duane A. Dove of Hershey; two daughters , Joan L. wife of Scott P. Plank of Harrisburg, and Betsy A. Dove of Harrisburg; two sisters , Hazel E. wife of Kenneth R. Raynes of Ickesburg, and Mary E. Stone of Kent, WA; and 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 4, 2004, at 11 AM in The Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. John A. Schaefer, her pastor, officiating. HESTER MARY MUSSER
Hester Mary Musser, 91 of the Lebanon Valley Home, Annville, formerly of 930 West Areba Avenue and 1257 East Caracus Avenue, Hershey, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 29 at the home.
She was born in Hershey on April 7, 1913, to Clayton O. and Sarah A. Boggs Gish.
She was a 1932 graduate of Hershey High School and retired in 1971 from the Hershey Chocolate Corporation.
Hester enjoyed traveling and collecting plates commemorating the places she visited. She often traveled with the Sojourners Club. She was a member of the Hershey Senior Center, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shellsville VFW, and she has been a volunteer at the Hershey Medical Center. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, Hershey.
Hester was preceded in death by her husband, William Elmer Musser, her daughter, Mary Ann Hess, and brothers , George, John, and Fred Gish.
She is survived by two sons , John Robert of Brownstown, husband of Nancy J. Musser, and Stanley of Hershey, husband of Susan Swartz Musser. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

HETTIE R. NESTER
Hettie Root Nester, 85, of Hershey, and formerly of Union Deposit and Midwest City, OK, passed away Tuesday, September 28, in the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born in Mt. Crawford, VA, on July 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Halcie L. Showalter Root. She retired as a cafeteria worker for HERCO, and had formerly worked at the Hershey Chocolate Company. She was a member of the Union Deposit United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Union Deposit School House Reunion Committee; South Hanover Historical Society; and the Union Deposit Lunch Bunch.
Hettie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Nester, Jr., on October 19, 1981.
She is survived by three daughters , Virginia A. wife of Kenneth G. Walborn of Elizabethtown, Barbara L. wife of George L. Bishop of Des Moines, IA, and Helen F. wife of Paul E. Finney of Palmyra; one son, Charles “Chuck” A. McKee of Harrisburg; one sister, Carol B. wife of Mark Henry of Palmyra; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to these she had canine and feline grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles L. Bishop.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2004, at 11 AM in the Union Deposit United Methodist Church, 34 West Main Street, Hershey, with The Rev. Thomas R. Searfoss officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call in the church Friday from 10 AM until time of the services.
