PAUL A. GRUBB, SR.
Paul A. Grubb, Sr., 87, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, and formerly of Union Deposit, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, in the home.
Born in Lower Paxton Township on May 15, 1916, he was the son of the late Emmanuel and Minerva Baker Grubb.
He was the owner/operator of Grubb’s Welding, Union Deposit. He was an active member of the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren and a member of its Senior Adult Bible Class. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Harrisburg Youth for Christ; and was a member of the South Hanover Township Planning Commission and Lion’s Club.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. Bretherick Grubb, on October 23, 1994.
He is survived by three sons , Paul A. Grubb, Jr. of Somers, CT, William L. Grubb of Camp Hill, and Craig E. Grubb of Union Deposit; two sisters , Mary A. Grubb and Minnie M. Grubb both of Palmyra; two brothers , Samuel C. Grubb and Daniel B. Grubb both of Palmyra; and six grandchildren, Jennifer R. Grubb, Suzanne E. Grubb, Christopher T. Vanasdalan, Cynthia L. Vanasdalan, Aaron N. Grubb and Sarah M. Grubb.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004, at 11:00 AM in the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, 577 Hershey Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Fred L. Bieber, his pastor, and The Rev. Norman Yeater, Chaplain at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, officiating. Interment will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, January 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and Saturday in the church from 10:00 AM until time of the service.

BARBARA A. MAYNARD
Barbara A. Stauffer Maynard, 55, of Hummelstown passed away Monday, January 12, 2004, in the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Harrisburg on December 15, 1948, she was the daughter of Edwin A. and S. Arline Tule Stauffer of Hummelstown.
Barbara was a clerk for the U. S. Postal Service. She was a 1966 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School where she was awarded the Mathematical Award of America upon graduation; and was a graduate of the St. Petersburg Junior College, Clearwater, Florida, where she was a member of the Debate Team. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jon L. Maynard whom she married on November 16, 1968; two daughters , Dawn C. Dincau and her husband Dennis Dincau, and Amy R. Maynard and her companion James Gephart both of Hummelstown; three brothers , George C. Stauffer of Sinking Spring, Edwin B. Stauffer of Rutherford, and Eric B. Stauffer of Hummelstown; one sister, Mary K. Hankins and her husband Steve Hankins of Hummelstown; and five grandchildren, Autumn Dincau, Hannah Dincau, Tina Krone, Jacob Gebhart and Joshua Gebhart all of Hummelstown.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mark S. Stauffer, on August 12, 1980.
A Prayer Service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2004, at 1:30 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Paul Clark officiant. CAROL R. PIEGZIK
Carol Rose Hines Piegzik, 52, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004, at her home.
Born in Chicago, ILL, on November 3, 1951, she was the daughter of Rose Marie Gualano Hines of Hummelstown, and the late Leonard Hines.
She was a former certified nursing assistant for Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Frey Village Retirement Center, Middletown, and the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg, Linglestown. She was a truly compassionate woman who loved her family. She had a passion for caring for animals. She was proud to be known as “Memaw” to her grandsons.
In addition to her mother , Carol is survived by her husband of 25 years, Joseph S. Piegzik whom she married on June 23, 1978; one daughter, Julia A. Piegzik of Hummelstown; three sons , Casey A. Piegzik and his wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach, VA, Andrew S. Piegzik of Hummelstown and Joseph E. Piegzik and his fiancé Kelly Fry of Middletown; one brother, Leonard Hines and his wife Lynn of Fredericksburg, VA; and two grandsons, Trevor A. Piegzik of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ethan E. Piegzik of Middletown.

VIOLET S. RUDY
Violet Shearer Rudy, 84, of Country Meadows, Hershey, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004, in the home.
Born in Carroll Township, Perry County, on August 14, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Addie Corman Shearer.
Violet was formerly employed at the Hershey Chocolate Company. She was a member of Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin C. Rudy, on October 24, 2001.
She is survived by two sisters , Dorothy R. widow of Harry Dunkelberger of Hershey, and Helen S. widow of Roy Powers of Warner Robbins, GA; one brother, Gerald P. Shearer and his wife Dorothy Moses Shearer of Hershey; and several nieces and nephews.
Violet was also preceded in death by three brothers , Wilmot Shearer, Marlin Shearer and Leroy Shearer; and two sisters , Serada Behney and Ethel Rinesmith.

DOROTHEA R. BLAKE
Dorothea R. “Dottie” Nester Blake, 79, of The Middletown Home, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in the home.
Born in Derry Township on January 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary Eisenhauer Nester. She was a sales clerk at the former Lerner Shop, Harrisburg, and the former Hershey Department Store. She had attended the former Hummelstown High School; and was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene J. Blake, on March 28, 1993.
She is survived by one sister, Evelyn P. Rhoads of Hummelstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2004, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. MATTHEW CALEB FISHER
Matthew Caleb Fisher, 9, of Hummelstown, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a 3rd grade student at Nye Elementary School, Hummelstown and attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.
Matthew enjoyed riding dirt bike and raced Motocross at Sleepy Hollow Motorcross Track; swimming and taking swimming lessons of which he was a level 3 swimmer; fishing, playing Play Station II games, collecting Pokemon & Yugioh cards, and collecting foreign money. He enjoyed hanging out with his Dad at New Pro Industries Shop in Stoverdale, loved animals especially his dog Blondie and he couldn’t wait until he could go hunting.
He is survived by his parents, Timothy and Amy E. Druckenmiller Fisher, of Hummelstown; two brothers , Michael C. Fisher and Luke R. Fisher, both at home; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Daun Whary Druckenmiller of Hummelstown; paternal grandparents, Robert and Sylvia Smith Fisher of Middletown; Paternal Great Grandmother, Martha Wingert Fisher of Middletown; Paternal Great Grandfather, Lester B. Smith of Columbia; and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins

SOPHIA M. ETSWEILER
Sophia Mae (Powell) Etsweiler, 85, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, formerly of Carlisle and Wyomissing Hills, Pennsylvania , passed away on April 21, 2004 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born near Uniontown on October 16, 1918, she was the daughter of Slovak immigrants Maria (Vravitz) Powell and Andrew Powell of German Township, Westmoreland County.
Mrs. Etsweiler was a graduate of the former German Township High School, and she received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from California State Teachers’ College in 1941. Mrs. Etsweiler did graduate work at Penn State University, and in the early 1950s, she was among the first group of teachers in Pennsylvania to be certified to teach Special Education. She retired from teaching in 1980, after over thirty years of service in the Hanover, Huntingdon, Westmont, Lansdowne-Aldan, and Upper Darby School Districts. She was also an adjunct instructor at Juniata College. During her career, she taught every elementary grade plus special education at all levels. She also took time out from her teaching career to raise three children, all of whom have pursued careers in education.
Mrs. Etsweiler enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, and writing stories and poetry. She is the author of two books, Everyone is a Me, and My Ride with Time, which were published after she retired from teaching.
She was predeceased by her husband of over 61 years, Dr. William H. Etsweiler, Jr., on February 23, 2004, whom she married in Hanover, PA, on April 17, 1942.
She is survived by two daughters , Joan Elaine Logan of Hamden, Connecticut, and Victoria Ann Gabis wife of Olivier Gabis of St. Clairsville, Ohio; one son, William Andrew Etsweiler, husband of Diane Clepper Etsweiler of North Middleton Township; and four grandchildren, Christian Guillaume Gabis and Marie Sophie Gabis, both of St. Clairsville, and Ulrich William Etsweiler and Rainer Powell Etsweiler, both of North Middleton Township.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 25, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Richard A. Ruff, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, officiating. Interment will be held in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. CHARLES H. HOOVER
Charles Hartman Hoover, 87, of Swatara Township and formerly of Royalton, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Township.
Born in Mountville on May 10, 1916, he was the son of the late Walter and Marie Hartman Hoover.
He retired as an inspector from Conrail and the former Pennsylvania Railroad. He was an Army veteran having served oversees in World War II. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Rutherford Heights; and the former Lawnton Grace Evangelical Congregational Church where he was the oldest attending member, the oldest trustee with the most years of service as a trustee, had 30 years perfect attendance at its Sunday School, served as Head Usher and on the Member Building and Memorial Committees of the church, and was a former custodian. Charles was a dedicated worker for charities. He was a life member of the Reliance Hose Fire Company, Middletown; and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 107, Marysville; American Legion Post 998, Lawnton; Railroad Retirees #1; Swatosa; Susquehanna Golden Agers; Hershey Chapter of AARP; the Rancheros and Flirts & Skirts Square Dancers of the former Ranchland, Mechanicsburg; and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1620, Middletown. He loved ball room and square dancing.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jean Ricker Hoover whom he married on September 3, 1965; two brothers , James H. Hoover and Ralph N. Hoover both of Middletown; and one nephew, James B. Hoover of Long Island, NY.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at 11 AM in the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 165 North 67th Street, Rutherford Heights, with The Rev. Dr. Gordon L. Paulette K. Honsaker Gingrich, 34, of Grantville, passed away Friday, April 16, 2004, at her home.
Born in Altoona on September 5, 1969, she was the daughter of I. Ronald and Jacqueline Evans Honsaker of Roaring Spring. She was a homemaker and had been employed as a waitress for Funck’s Restaurant, Palmyra, Kreider’s Restaurant, Hershey, and the Eat N’ Park Restaurants in both Harrisburg and Altoona. She was a 1987 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, where she had been a cheerleader. She was a member of Martinsburg Mennonite Church; and had attended Skyline View Brethren in Christ Church, Harrisburg, and the Hershey Brethren in Christ Church.
In addition to her parents, Paulette is survived by her husband of almost 11 years, Timothy C. Gingrich, whom she married on April 23, 1993; one son, Anthony P. Gingrich at home; two daughters , Carrie K. Gingrich and Cynthia R. Gingrich both at home; one step-son, Timothy C. Gingrich II of Palmyra; four sisters , Tami wife of William Grosmick of Moravia, MD, Rhonda wife of Lawrence Butler of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Lori wife of David Kuncheff of Mt. Airy, MD, and Karen wife of David Yingling of Holidaysburg; one step-sister, Missy Burket of Roaring Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

FOSTER N. “Adam” BINGAMAN
Foster N. “Adam” Bingaman, 81, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, April 16, 2004, in The Middletown Home.
Born in Hummelstown on April 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary E. Shenk Bingaman. He retired from the motor pool at New Cumberland Army Depot and had been employed at the former Olmsted Air Force Base. He was an Air Force veteran having served in the World War II. Adam was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687 and the American Legion Post 265. He enjoyed collecting trucks and coins.
Adam is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annalea C. Frye Bingaman whom he married on April 30, 1949; three sisters , Violet Hivner of Harrisburg, Mildred Landis of Hershey, and Ruth Lokey of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers , Leroy Bingaman, Ralph Bingaman, Chester Bingaman and Harold Bingaman, and one sister, Blanche Hetrick.

Julia B. Banks, 48, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born in Warren on December 29, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Alan J. and Sally Hall Blair. She was employed as a teacher’s aide at South Hanover Elementary School. Julie was a 1974 graduate of Warren Area High School, Warren, PA, and a 1978 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Her interests included a love for cooking and fine dining; in addition she was an avid golfer.
Julie is survived by her husband of 15 years, Jack Banks whom she married on October 22, 1988; one daughter, Emily B. Banks at home; one sister, Barbara B. Wolfe of Midlothian, VA; three brothers , David A. Blair of Warren, William R. Blair of Barkhamstead, CT, and James M. Blair of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 19, 2004, at 3 PM in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, with The Rev. Fr. Philip G. Burger as celebrant.
