Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

JOSEPH C. BLANCHARD

Joseph C. Blanchard, 81, of Hershey, and formerly of Fort Lauderdale, FLA, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2003, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lebanon.

Born in Orono, Maine, on October 27, 1921, he was the son of the late Philip and Edythe Southerland Carter. He retired as a cab driver in Fort Lauderdale. He was an Army veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3502, Hershey.

He is survived by one son, William Blanchard husband of Deborah Yantz Blanchard of Hershey; one daughter, Des Ashmeade of Monticello, NY; three sisters , Marilyn, Caroline and Wilma; one brother, Albert; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 1 PM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township, Lebanon County.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

LINDA L. WYLAND SWARTZ

Linda L. Wyland Swartz, 89, formerly of Perry County and Country Meadows of Hershey, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg.

Born in Millerstown on April 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James and Cora Edna Fahnestock Wyland.

She retired from the Pennsylvania State Department of Benefits and was a former employee of the Hershey Chocolate Company 2nd and 3rd floor wrapping department. She enjoyed sewing and doing crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Swartz on January 14, 1953.

She is survived by 2 brothers , Roy D. Wyland of Baltimore, MD and Howard J. Wyland of New Kingstown.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Vivian R. Sgrignoli; a brother Raymond M. Wyland and two sisters , Margaret M. Bechtel and Ida Mae Chase.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street Hummelstown. Interment will be in the Stoverdale Cemetery, Hummelstown. Friends are invited to call Thursday, May 29, 2003 from 7 to 9 in the funeral home and on Friday at 10 AM until time of the services.

THOMAS G. STAPF

Thomas G. Stapf, 61, of Hershey, passed away Friday, May 16, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Harrisburg on September 11, 1941, he was the son of the Mary Sullivan Stapf of Mechanicsburg and the late John S. Stapf. He was a Contract Administrator for Rite Aid Corporation, Camp Hill, and had formerly worked in the family’s business - the John Stapf Corporation. He was a 1960 graduate of Malvern Prep School, and attended the University of Miami and Elizabethtown College. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. He was a former member of the Hershey Rotary Club, the Curling Team of the Hershey Country Club, and a volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House, Hershey. He was an avid auto racing fan, enjoyed working in the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan Deckard Stapf; two sons , Thomas G. Stapf, Jr. and his wife, Wilhelmina Richards Stapf of Elizabethtown, John N. Stapf and his wife, Christine Heimbach Stapf of Maytown; two grandchildren; Sarah Elizabeth Stapf of Maytown and Samuel Wilson Stapf of Elizabethtown; a brother, John S. Stapf and his wife Anne McManus Stapf of Harrisburg, and a sister, M. Barbara Cleveland and her husband C. E. Thomas Cleveland of Briarcliff Manor, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 10:30 AM in the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 114 State Street, Harrisburg with The Rev. Msgr. Hugh A. Overbaugh of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church as celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Township.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, May 19, 2003 from 7 to 9 PM at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 PM Monday in the funeral home.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Ronald McDonald House, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033, or to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 125 Lucy Avenue Hummelstown, PA 17036.

GEORGE W. DEIMLER

George W. Deimler, 94, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003, in the Integrated Health Services of Hershey at the Woodlands.

Born in Chambers Hill on March 5, 1909, he was the son of the late George W. Sr. and Susan Logan Deimler. He retired from the Hershey Foods Corporation where he was a rigger; and had worked part-time for the Hummelstown Cemetery and the former Hesteco Dress & Sportswear Manufacturing Company, Hummelstown. He was a 1926 graduate of the former Swatara Township High School. He was a member of the former Hummelstown Church of the Brethren He was a former member of the Hummelstown Cemetery Association Board, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 410, Middletown. He was an avid hunter and gun collector.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion M. Love Deimler, on March 13, 1987.

He is survived by one son, Bryan L. Deimler of Bainbridge; two daughters , Beryl E. Brown of Beaver, Utah, and Wendy wife of Richard L. Nunemacher of Harrisburg; two sisters , Mildred Lichtenfels of York Springs, and Margaret Gochnaur of Middletown; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son Barry W. Deimler on December 18, 1960, and a daughter, Marilyn Keever on December 19, 2000.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery.

GRACE A. YOUTZ

Grace A. Machamer Youtz, 87, of Harrisburg and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Lebanon, PA on May 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late George and Mable Mae Zattazahn Machamer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown; Former member of the Order of the Eastern Star; enjoyed playing Bridge and participated in a Bowling League at the Community Lanes in Hummelstown. She was a graduate of Lebanon High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Youtz in 1990. She is survived by 2 children, James E. Youtz and his wife Phyllis F. of Harrisburg; Jane Y. Clemens and her husband Gerald A. of Etters; 3 grandchildren, Jason A. Clemens of Miami, FL, Janel E. Clemens of Etters and Jennifer A. Clemens of Shippensburg.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street Hummelstown with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at the funeral home.

LYDIA GEBHARD RAMBLER

Lydia Gebhard Rambler, 97, a resident of Londonderry Township for 67 years, passed away, Sunday, April 27, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Royalton, she was the daughter of the late John Flowers and Lydia Lemmuel Gebhard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Rambler. Surviving are her 2 daughters , Linda K. Rambler of Londonderry Township and Karen R. wife of Kent H. Quisel of Wilmington, Del.; 3 Grandchildren and 3 Great-grandchildren.

She retired as a School Teacher, having taught in the Royalton, Londonderry Township and Middletown schools for 37 years; was a member of Shope’s United Methodist Church, Hummelstown and was formerly a leader in the 4-H and a Bible School teacher.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 11:30 AM in the Grandview Memorial Park, North Annville Township, PA with The Rev. John Ludwig, Jr. officiating.

WILLIAM ALBERT BUSH

William Albert Bush, 54, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center.

He was born in Harrisburg on March 9, 1949. He was a baker for Stroehmann Bakeries, Inc., Harrisburg. He was a 1968 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School. He was an U. S. Air Force veteran. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his mother , Jeanette N. Bush of Hummelstown; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas D. and Veronica Lewis MacCormick of Cincinnati, OH; and two nieces, Kathryn MacCormick and Lauren MacCormick both of Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 28, 2003, at 10:00 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Viewing will be in the funeral home Monday from 9:00 AM until time of the services.

REGINA A. RHINESMITH

Regina A. Hilsee Rhinesmith, 70, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, on July 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Pierce Hilsee and Ella Lipsett Scott.

She was a homemaker and previously employed as a maid at the Hershey Motor Lodge and as a cafeteria worker with the Lower Dauphin High School. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Walter Eugene Rhinesmith whom she married on March 24, 1956 in Philadelphia.

In addition to her husband she is survived by 3 daughters , Ella A. wife of Terry A. Smith, Lee Anne wife of Eric J. Fritz, both of Hummelstown, and Roxanne R. wife of Edward L. Crater of New Cumberland; 2 sons , Edward R. Rhinesmith and his companion Linda S. Buckley, and Bryan E. Rhinesmith husband of Lisa A. Chenoweth Rhinesmith both of Hummelstown; 9 Grandchildren, Scott J. Lebo, Darrel L. Wagner, Ashley E. Stewart-Fritz, Brandon R. Rhinesmith, Jesse Lee Rhinesmith and Jarrod A. Smith all of Hummelstown, Michael D. Lebo of Elizabethtown, and Cindy L. Smith and Christine M. Smith of Lakeland, FL; a great-grand daughter, Summer Cheyenne Burnett of Palmyra; and 2 sisters , Frances MacLean of Boston, MA, and Annetta Mooney of Philadelphia.

A Prayer Service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 11 AM in The Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday from 10 AM until time of the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association Capital Region, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

ROBERT LEE SHARPE

Robert Lee Sharpe, 63, of Penbrook, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.

Born in Johnstown, PA on May 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Ray C. and Leona Sharpe. He retired after 39 years of service from the Commonwealth of PA Department of Revenue. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a Life Member of the Penbrook Fire Company and an Officer of the Penbrook Fire Police.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Ann whom he married on September 25, 1965; one son, Robert L. Sharpe, Jr., at home and a grandchild, Sabrina Renee Sharpe, of Harrisburg.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family in Apollo. Friends will be received in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, Tuesday, April 15, 2003 from 7 to 9 PM. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 8 PM with Frank Fonner, Chaplin, Progress Fire Company officiating.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association 3544 North Progress Avenue Harrisburg, Pa 17110 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Central PA, 2209 Forest Hills Drive Harrisburg, Pa 17109.

E. BERYL PATRICK

Esther Beryl Firestone Patrick, 96, of Hill Farm Estates, Annville, and formerly of Hershey, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born in Carroll Township, York County, on September 28, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Wetherald Firestone. She was a homemaker, and was formerly employed by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. She was a member of Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, West Hanover Township. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting, and reading. She donated many of her doilies for sale at the District Relief Auction of the Church of the Brethren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Norman W. Patrick, on February 25, 2002.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Roy E. and Miriam Keeney Patrick of Palmyra; one daughter, Sylvia P. wife of Robert L. Heffley of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence P. Keller, on May 22, 1962.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 2:00 PM in the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, 577 Hershey Road, West Hanover Township, with The Rev. Fred L. Bieber, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery, West Hanover Township. Friends are invited to call on Monday, April 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and on Tuesday in the church from 1:00 PM until time of the services.

CLARA S. SCHEETZ

Clara S. Koons Scheetz, 85, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, in the Twin Oaks Nursing Home, Campbelltown.

Born in Rutherford on March 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Minnie Smith Koons. She was a homemaker and had been employed by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation, and Verdelli Farms and the former Hesteco Dress & Sportswear Manufacturing Company, both of Hummelstown. She was a member and very active at the Stoverdale United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Scheetz, on April 20, 1986; a son, Richard H. Scheetz, on February 21, 1983; and a daughter, Susan J. Diffendall, on November 14, 2001.

She is survived by two daughters , Kathryn E., wife of Richard J. Youtz, and Patricia A., wife of Donald M. Zinn, both from Hummelstown; two sons , Herbert W. Scheetz, Jr. of Hummelstown and John A. Scheetz of Annville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 17, 2003, at 2 pm in the Stoverdale United Methodist Church, Middletown Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. JoAnn M. Darrow, her pastor, and The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Viewing will be Sunday in the church from 1 pm until time of the services.
