Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

FLETCHER E. C. FUNKHOUSER

Fletcher E. C. Funkhouser, 91, of Jonestown, passed away Friday, February 7, 2003, in ManorCare of Lebanon.

Born in Ashby, Shenandoah County, VA, on February 6, 1912, he was the son of the late Jacob S. and Netti D. Sayger Funkhouser. He was a former salvage and construction worker and had worked at the Hershey Chocolate Company. He had attended Jonestown Bible Church and Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, Hershey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Sheaffer Funkhouser, on February 25, 2000.

He is survived by one son, Robert E. Funkhouser, and one daughter, Betty J. Funkhouser both of Jonestown.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 12, at 11 AM in the Spring Creek Church Cemetery, Hershey, with The Rev. George P. Atkins of the Jonestown Bible Church officiating. Viewing will be held Tuesday, February 11 from 6 to 8 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown.

JOHANNA C. den HARING AULD

Johanna Catherina den Haring Auld, 66, of Rutherford Heights, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2003, at her home.

Born in Amsterdam, Holland, on July 2, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Jacobus and Francisca Engleman den Haring. She retired from Nationwide Insurance Company where she had been a clerk secretary. She was a member of the Central Penn Health Club, Harrisburg. She enjoyed traveling, reading and music.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James N. Auld whom she married on March 28, 1959; one daughter, Monica L. Auld of San Diego, CA; one son, Alex J. Auld of York Haven; three brothers , Gysbertus den Haring and Koos den Haring both of Holland, and Martin den Haring of Ottawa, Ontario; and three sisters , Johanna G. Egyed of Montreal, Quebec, Ina Jensen of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Elly Heester of Holland.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Richard F. Shover officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday in the funeral home from 10 AM until time of the services.

FORREST CAMMACK

Forrest Cammack, affectionately known as “Tete”, 89, of 585 Monroe Street, Bressler, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003, in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Stoverdale on August 15, 1913, he was the son of the late Oliver Cammack Sr. and Pearl Morton Cammack. He was formerly employed by the Lester Derr and Joseph D’Agostino Shoe Repair Shops in Hummelstown. He retired as an engineer from the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Lower Swatara Township. He was a dedicated and faithful member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton where he had been a Trustee. He was a member of the Steelton Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former Assistant Scout Master of Troop 107, Steelton; and a former Big Brother with the Big brothers /Big sisters of the Capitol Region. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and lawn mower repair.

He is survived by one brother, Edward Cammack of Dauphin Manor, Harrisburg; one sister, Helen C. Waters of Harrisburg; one nephew, Darrell Cammack of Chambers Hill; four nieces, Stacey Cammack and Linda Cammack both of Harrisburg, and Cherise Walker and Margarete Jones both of Baltimore, Maryland; and many devoted friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Christopher; and two brothers , Oliver Cammack, Jr. and The Rev. Herman Cammack.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 5, at 12 noon in The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 South 19th Street, Harrisburg, with The Rev. Dr. W. B. Cooley, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday, February 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and Wednesday in the church from 11 AM until time of the services.

CLYDE “HANK” C. BECHTEL

Clyde “Hank” C. Bechtel, 83, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2003, in the Twin Oaks Nursing Home, Campbelltown.

Born in Rockville on December 2, 1919, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary B. Fahnestock Bechtel. He retired as a saw reconditioner from the New Cumberland Army Depot; and was a self-employed auto repairman. He was an Army veteran having served in World War II. He was the recipient of the Hummelstown Lions Club Citizen of the Year award. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown; and was a member of the Order of the Cooties, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1620, Middletown, the Woodman of the World Lodge #364, Hershey, the FFO Inc. (Fuzzy Few Organization) and Field & Stream Association both of Hummelstown, the Pleasantview Hunting Association, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta A. Hanshaw Bechtel, on April 24, 2002.

He is survived by a son, Garry C. Bechtel of Harrisburg; one sister, Faye wife of Albert Alleman of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 4, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Richard R. Hanshaw, Jr., pastor of the East Hanover Church of God, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call in the funeral home Monday, February 3, from 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of the services.

Woodmen of the World Services will be held Monday evening in the funeral home. American Legion Prayer Service will be held Monday evening in the funeral home.

PAUL E. EPLER

Paul E. Epler, 91, of Hummelstown, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2003, in the IHS of Hershey at the Woodlands after a long illness.

He was born in Windber on December 10, 1911, a son of the late Edward S. and Katherine E. Stoner Epler. He was the husband of the late Anna F. Zapcic Epler who preceded him in death on June 18, 1987.

Until his retirement he was employed by the Hershey Chocolate Company where he worked in the Cocoa Department. He was a self-employed sub-contractor. He served in the United States Navy. He was active in gardening and walking.

He is survived by his sister, Emma Gerlach of the IHS of Hershey at the Woodlands; four sons , Raymond F. of Fresno, CA, Robert M. of Hummelstown, Kenneth R. of Finksburg, Maryland, and William A. of Wesley Chapel, FL; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Frank “Boots” M. Epler, on June 15, 2001.

A Prayer Service will be held Monday, February 3, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Fr. Raymond J. La Voie of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey, officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Viewings will be in the funeral home Sunday, February 2 from 6 to 8 PM and Monday from 10 AM until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.

EDWIN RAYMOND SHULTZ, SR.

Edwin Raymond Shultz, Sr., 74, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2003, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Township.

Born in Loyalhanna on November 12, 1928, he was the son of Raymond and Florence Lauffer Shultz. He retired as a meat cutter in the commissary at the New Cumberland Army Depot; and retired from the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois Corine Fritz Shultz whom he married on June 10, 1950; one son and daughter in law, Edwin R. Shultz, Jr. and Cindy Seiger Shultz of Hummelstown; one daughter, Susan C. wife of George E. Glosser of Middletown; two brothers , Jake Shultz of Irwin and Joseph Shultz of Ligonier; two sisters , Ann Lebo of Ligonier and Audrey Shultz of Georgia; and three granddaughters, Heather M. Shultz of Philadelphia, April M. Glosser of Middletown, and Stephanie M. Shultz of Hummelstown.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Randolph W. Barr, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Dauphin, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call in the funeral home Thursday, January 30, from 6 to 8 PM and Friday from 10 AM until time of the services.

EVELYNE “Lynne” S. MENDE

Evelyne “Lynne” S. Mende, 85, of Elizabethville, PA, and formerly of Hummelstown, PA, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2002, in the Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, PA.

Born in Passaic, NJ, on May 26, 1917, she was the daughter of Anton and Eleanor Jacobi Schmitt. She was a homemaker. She was a docent at the Hershey Museum, and a volunteer at the Hershey Medical Center both of Hershey, PA. She was a graduate of Passaic High School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Dauphin, PA; and a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Hillsborough, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Mende, in July of 1974.

She is survived by three sons and daughter-in-laws, William R. and Helen Kirby Mende of Elizabethville, Alan F. and Cathy Nelson Mende of Hummelstown, and Robert C. and Amy Lesser Mende of Kempton, PA; one daughter, Lynette N. Mende wife of Peter Siedlecki of Buffalo, NY; four grandchildren, Sam Mende and his wife Amanda Japak Mende and Leanne Mende both of Hummelstown, Peter Mende Siedlecki of Buffalo, NY, and Nicole wife of Richard Alger of Palmyra, PA; and three great grandchildren, Aidan Mende of Hummelstown, and Madison Alger and Makenzie Alger both of Palmyra.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31 at 7 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. and on Saturday, February 1, at 11 AM in the Faith Lutheran Church, 381 South Branch Road, Hillsborough, NJ.

Interment will be in the Neshanic Cemetery, Neshanic. Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 7 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. and Saturday in the church following the services.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Zion Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 405 Swatara Street, Dauphin, PA 17018.

JOHN H. ILGENFRITZ, JR.

John H. Ilgenfritz, Jr., 76, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2003, in the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born in Lebanon on August 6, 1921, he was the son of the late John H. Ilgenfritz, Sr. and Viola E. Keenan Ilgenfritz.

He was a retired salesman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6704, Mechanicsburg, and American Legion Post 1001, Harrisburg. He was an avid golf and football fan.

He is survived by his two daughters , Pamela A. Davis and Lee A. Swiler; three grandsons; one great grandson; two step- daughters ; and four step-grandchildren.

Memorial services be held Sunday, February 2, 2002, at 2 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. John W. Betlyon, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. A private family burial will be held in the South Belle Grove Cemetery, North Annville Township.

James G. “Nightwalker” Fox

James G. “Nightwalker” Fox, age 56, of Gulfport, FL, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena, FL.

He went to Florida in April of 1996 from Hummelstown, PA where he had an antique shop. In Gulfport, he was an avid CB operator.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara L. Fox of Gulfport, FL; his mother Mary Pierre Fox of Hummelstown; a son, Roy S. Fox of Hummelstown; two step- daughters , Tara Birriel of Hummelstown and Linda B. Dunn of Seminole, FL and a brother Richard L. Fox of Grantville.

There will be no services. Burial will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery.

PAULINE SELTZER NYE

Pauline Seltzer Nye, 81, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2002, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Township.

She was born in Union Deposit on May 16, 1921. She retired from the Kit Kat Department of H. B. Reese Candy Company, Hershey; and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Nye, on August 9, 1979.

She is survived by two daughters , Shirley A. wife of Richard L. Epler of Hummelstown, and Kathryn J. wife of John Bodnar of Tampa, Florida; one son, Russell A. Nye of Palmyra; and three grandchildren, Stacia Epler of Harrisburg, Lynn wife of Richard Shenfeld of Hummelstown, and Allison Bodnar of Tampa, Florida.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 27, at 12 noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. John W. Betlyon, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township.

Visitation will be held Monday in the funeral home from 11:00 AM until time of the services.

GRACE A. YOUTZ

Grace A. Machamer Youtz, 87, of Harrisburg and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Lebanon, PA on May 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late George and Mable Mae Zattazahn Machamer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown; Former member of the Order of the Eastern Star; enjoyed playing Bridge and participated in a Bowling League at the Community Lanes in Hummelstown. She was a graduate of Lebanon High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Youtz in 1990. She is survived by 2 children, James E. Youtz and his wife Phyllis F. of Harrisburg; Jane Y. Clemens and her husband Gerald A. of Etters; 3 grandchildren, Jason A. Clemens of Miami, FL, Janel E. Clemens of Etters and Jennifer A. Clemens of Shippensburg.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street Hummelstown with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at the funeral home.
