Lloyd W. Harding
MIFFLINTOWN — Lloyd W. Harding, 77, of RR1 Mifflintown died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born April 17, 1926, in State College, he was raised by his grandparents, William and Elsie Kauffman. His wife, Ruth (Swartz) Harding, whom he married in 1958, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Gallagher and husband, Patrick, Mifflintown and a granddaughter, Tonya.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
He retired from the Standard Steel Wheel Mill after 43 years of employment. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and he was a member of Jehovah’s Witness.
A private service will be held.

Nelson Hugh Bennett
BELLEVILLE — Nelson Hugh Bennett, 78, of 84 Trella St., Belleville, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown.
Born March 19, 1925, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Rush N. and Lula V. (Barr) Bennett. His wife, E. Lorraine (Reigle) Bennett, whom he married on July 11, 1959, survives.
Also surviving is an aunt, Daisy Barr, Allensville.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra J. Davis, who died on May 6, 1977.
He was a tool and die maker at Sperry New Holland for 39 years eight months, retiring Jan. 1, 1986.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Allensville.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
His wishes were that friends and relatives omit flowers.
Herman Clayton Benner
SELINSGROVE — Herman Clayton Benner, 83, of Countryside Village, Selinsgrove, died Saturday morning, Dec. 6, 2003, at his residence.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville with the Rev. R. Edward Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery.
The viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.
Rebecca K. Kanagy
BELLEVILLE — Rebecca K. Kanagy, 69, of 4059 Back Mountain Rd., Belleville, died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born March 26, 1934, in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late David and Rebecca (King) Beiler. Her husband, Daniel P. Kanagy, survives.
Also surviving are: children, David B. Kanagy and wife, Dorothy, Reedsville, Mrs. Jonas (Lydia) Zook, Myersdale, Elmer L. Kanagy and wife, Sarah, Rebersburg, Mrs. Abie (Malinda) Peight, Belleville, Aaron J. Kanagy and wife, Anna Mary, Belleville, and Benjamin Kanagy and wife, Sylvia, Belleville; siblings, Mrs. Malinda Zook, Bethel, Daniel Beiler, Millersburg, OH, Eli Beiler, New Holland and Elam Beiler, Coatesville; 40 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two stillborn children and three brothers , David, Elmer and Christian Beiler.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Her funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Noah Kanagy residence with the Minister Elmer Fisher and Bishop Shem Swarey officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
Her viewing will be held 2-9 p.m. today at the family residence.

Mercy A. Wagner
LEWISTOWN — Mercy A. Wagner, 71, of 316 Terrace Blvd., Lewistown, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Pinnacle Health, Harrisburg.
Born Aug. 27, 1932, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (Green) Schrock. Her husband, William L. Wagner Sr., whom she married on Oct. 8, 1955, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Georgia Olson, Lewistown, William L. Wagner Jr. and wife, Kimbrah, Lewistown and Margaret Wagner, Auburn; granddaughters, Tiffany Wagner, State College and Lindsay Wagner, Lewistown.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, George Schrock, and a sister, Rachel Spagnoletti.
She was a graduate of Lewistown High School Class of 1950 and a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
She worked for the American Viscose Corp., was the court stenographer for Judge Lehman and was a secretary for the Mifflin County School District 1960-1993, retiring with 33 1/2 years of service.
She was president and secretary of the Secretary’s Union and was union representative for the Viscose. She was active with mother Hubbard’s Cupboard 1996-2003, Juniata Terrace Playground Association, Band Boosters 1974-1977, and Juniata Terrace Elementary School PTA. She served on the discernment committee of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was a member of Lewistown Country Club.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., with the Rev. Ronald Lynch and Deacon D. Calhoun officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Phyllis J. Morgan
VALRICO, FL — Phyllis J. Morgan, 75, 124 Pioneer Lane, Valrico, FL, formerly of York, died at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 9, 1928 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Cluney T. Snyder and Irene (Searer) Snyder Toppins. Her husband, Richard Morgan, whom she married on Nov. 9, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Debbie) Heiges, Charlotte, NC; a sister, Mrs. Larry (Donna) Eward, Valrico, FL; a niece, Lee Ann Rawlins, Flordia; and a nephew, Terry Eward, Texas .
She was preceded in death by a son, John E. Morgan, in 1972.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church in North York, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Charles “Chuck” Sprenkle officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Cemetery Chapel.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Theodore W. ‘Ted’ Rhodes
BURNHAM — Theodore W. “Ted” Rhodes, 86, of 501 Freedom Ave., Burnham, died at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home.
Born Aug. 10, 1919, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Walter Rhodes and Mabel Stine Rhodes. His first wife, Pearl Delancey Rhodes, preceded him in death. His second wife, Mildred Steinberger Alexander Rhodes, whom he married in 1962, survives.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara McCullough, Lewistown; a step-daughter, Judi Brown, Boalsburg; a step-son, David Alexander, Burnham; a sister, Janet Delancey, Georgia; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers , Leon, Lawrence, Miles, Elwood and Roman Rhodes; and sisters , Vera Kenawell and Evelyn Dobson.
He worked as a Standard Steel machinist for 42 years, before retiring in 1982.
He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during WWII, in the Pacific theater, Airplane Armor Gunner B-29. He received a good conduct medal, the American theater service medal, the Pacific theater service medal and one bronze star victory medal.
He was a member of the Holy Communion Lutheran Church, where he served as head usher for many years.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Yeagertown, with Rev. Philip Tundel officiating. There will be a service at the church by VFW Post 7011. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., as well as from 10:30 a.m. Saturday, until time of service at the church.

Claire C. Bryner
LEWISTOWN — Claire C. Bryner, 87, of 79 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at William Penn Beverly Health Care.
Born in Reedsville on March 7, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Samuel W. Wagner and Mary Alexander Wagner.
She is survived by her step-son, H. Wayne Haubert, Mifflintown; sibling, S. Marlin Wagner, Lancaster; half-sister, Kay Wagner, Lewistown; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four nephews; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by two brothers , a step-son; a half-brother; and a niece.
She was a nurse’s aid at Selinsgrove Hospital.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Fame Auxiliary, Moose 143 Auxiliary and W.I.B.C. women’s bowling.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with Rev. Bradley C. Knepp and Ed Moore officiating.

Joseph C. Reed
MCVEYTOWN — Joseph C. Reed, 72, of 4652 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 24, 2005, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1932, in Little Kansas, Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Theodore and Verna (Kirby) Reed. His wife, Edna (Sechrist) Reed, whom he married Nov. 24, 1951, in Winchester, Va., survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Linda Taylor and husband Stephen, Kistler, Mount Union, and Maria Fortney and husband Howard, Shirleysburg; siblings, Arlene Shupp and husband Donald, Palmyra, Jane Pollock and husband Paul, Hershey, Fred Reed and wife Mabel, Mount Union, William Reed and wife Betty, McVeytown, and Thomas Reed and wife Barbara, Altoona; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Reed.
He graduated from Mount Union High School in 1950.
He retired from New Holland, Belleville, in 1991, after 40 years of service as a welder.
He was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church, Mount Union, where he was very involved in church activities. He enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was also a member of the Atkinson Mills Sportsmen’s Club.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Dayton Sines. Interment will be in the Atkinson Mills Methodist Cemetery, RD, McVeytown.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening, Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Saturday, until the hour of the service.

Daniel J. Swarey
REEDSVILLE — Daniel J. Swarey, 84, of 1986 Green Lane, Reedsville, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Brookline Terrace, State College.
Born Dec. 3, 1920, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Crist K. and Susie E. (Peachey) Swarey.
His wife, Rachel E. (Peachey) Swarey, whom he married March 28, 1940, preceded him in death Aug. 16, 2001.
Surviving are his children, Jesse D. Swarey and wife Carol, Reedsville, Naomi Swarey, Reedsville, Crist J. Swarey and wife Vivian, Almena, Wis., Susie E. Swarey, Reedsville, Benjamin H. Swarey and wife Mary, Reedsville, Amos J. Swarey and wife Lawanda, Eldorado, Kan., Rachel Koehn and husband Royce, Jamesport, Mo.; brothers Shem O. Swarey and wife Fannie, Allensville; sister Susie Peachey and husband Daniel N., Belleville; brothers and sisters -in-law, Rebecca Swarey, Belleville, Kore N. Peachey, Belleville, Ella Swarey, Mossley, Ontario, Canada, Sally Swarey, Rebersburg, Ezra F. Peachey, Belleville, Alta Swarey, Allensville, and Elsie Swarey, Fleetwood; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel P. Swarey; a daughter, Fannie Eicher; eight sisters , Katie L. Renno, Sarah M. Peight, Melinda E. Peachey, Fannie L. Peachey, Emma M. Yoder, Drucilla A. Renno, Judith B. Kanagy and Miriam S. Peachey; and five brothers , David C. Swarey, Enos S. Swarey, Samuel C. Swarey, Christian K. Swarey and Abraham D. Swarey.
He was a dairy farmer for most of his life, retiring in 1981.
Following his retirement he was employed by Barry’s Personal Care Home and Ron’s IGA and Fruit Market, Milroy.
He was a member of the Rock Haven Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Belleville.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, at Rock Haven Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Belleville, with the Minister Amos Peachey officiating.
A viewing will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at the church.
Interment will be at the Rock Haven Cemetery.
