Stacy (Stimely) Burd

HARRISBURG — Stacy (Stimely) Burd, 39, of 501 Lopax Road, Harrisburg, died at 11:02 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Hershey Medical Center.
She was born April 27, 1965, in Lewistown, a daughter of Lois “Penny” (Pennebaker) Stimely and the late John A. Stimely. Her husband, Stephen D. Burd, whom she married Sept. 23, 1995, survives.
Also surviving are: siblings, Scott A. Stimely and wife Cretia, Millerstown, and Susan Marks and husband David, Wrightsville; a foster brother, Murray D. Zimmerman, Kenosha, Wis.; two Nieces, Rachel Stimely and Kayla Elizabeth Marks; and a nephew, Zachary Stimely.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Millersville University.
She was a homemaker and member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, with the Rev. Albert Horst officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.

Ottie J. Olnick

LEWISTOWN — Ottie J. Olnick, 91, of 508 Maple Ave., Lewistown, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 12, 1914, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Renaldo and Sudie (Goss) Foltz. Her husband Joseph R. Olnick, preceded her in death March 15, 1974.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Wills of Lewistown; four grandchildren, whom she raised, Cynthia Buchanan and her husband, Joseph, of Belleville, JoAnn Wills of Belleville, Timi Wills of Lewistown, and Joshua Thompson of Goldsboro, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Thompson, Nov. 6, 2000; two brothers ; and two sisters .
She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John Bateman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, where a Scripture Service will be at 8:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

George C. Hoover

LEWISTOWN — George C. Hoover, 96, formerly of 101 N. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Malta Home, Granville.
He was born Sept. 20, 1908, in Tyrone, a son of the late George P. and Mary M. (Woodring) Hoover. He was preceded in death by first wife, L. Louise Gonsman. He also was preceded in death by second wife, Emma Crawford Herbster Hoover in 1999.
He is survived by a son, the Rev. Father Kirk Ullery, of San Francisco, Calif. and a daughter, Kay Hayes, and husband, Earl, of Anchor Point, Alaska; niece, Virginia Porter; and a host of other nieces and nephews, who love him dearly; sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Hoover, of Port Matilda; granddaughter, Diane Imlay; two great-granddaughters; and two special friends, who have always been there for him, Bill and Miriam DeArment of Lewistown.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by seven siblings. He also was preceded by grandson, David Hayes.
He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 37 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed golf, gardening and playing bridge.
He was a great fan of the Giants and continued his love of sports until his demise.
He and Emma had a happy marriage and he was a devoted husband, nursing Emma until she passed away.
He spent many special times with his son. He flew out to California to meet Kirk’s congregation. He and Kirk decided to drive Kirk’s new car all the way across the country.
He was a kind, gentle and loving man. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge 663, both in Lewistown.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Port Matilda Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, Thursday, at the funeral home.

Fern F. Brubaker

MIFFLIN — Fern F. Brubaker, 87, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin, and formerly of East Salem, died at 12:40 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Lewistown Hospital.
She was born July 24, 1917, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, a daughter of the late Norman B. and Bertha M. (Dreese) Frymoyer. Her husband, Harold T. Brubaker, preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1981.
Surviving are two sons , Daryl C. Brubaker, and wife, Debra, East Salem, Harold D. Brubaker, and wife, Lisa, Newport, three sisters , Dorothy Leonard, Brookline Manor, R.R. 1, Mifflintown, Ethel Benner, and husband, Barney, McAlisterville, Jeanette Lukens, R.R. 1, Thompsontown, and three grandchildren, Dawn Brubaker, Kimberly Brubaker and Jeffery Brubaker.
She was preceded in death by two sisters , Mary F. Benner, in 1992 and Gail F. Rickenbaugh, in 2004.
She was a homemaker and a member of the East Salem United Methodist Church, East Salem.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, from the East Salem United Methodist Church, East Salem, with the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.
Viewing will he held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the East Salem United Methodist Church, R.R. 2, Box 1170, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
The McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville is in charge of the arrangements.

Lorraine E. Casner

MIFFLIN — Lorraine E. Casner, 70, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 2:05 p.m., at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born, April 25, 1934, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Edna E. (Rarick) Weyandt. Her husband, Henry C. “Cal” Casner, preceded her in death on Dec., 13, 1992.
She is survived by one daughter, Edna (Connie) Thompson, Mifflintown; one son, Rick L. Rice, and companion, Mary, Barrow, Alaska; three grandchildren, Chester Thompson Jr., and wife, Rhonda (Casner), Mifflintown, Randall Thompson, and wife, Amy (Wortman), Thompsontown, Shane Thompson, Texas ; three great-grandchildren, Tiara and Chance Thompson, Thompsontown, and Brittany Thompson, Port Royal.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Norma J. Forshey

CENTER — A memorial service will be held for Norma J. Forshey at 6 p.m. today, at Grace Covenant Church on Old Route 22, between Mexico and Thompsontown.
She entered into rest Thursday, March 31, 05. She was born July 17, 1934.

Maude A. Heckman

MIFFLIN — Maude A. Heckman, 94, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflin, and formerly of RR 2, Port Royal, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at the village.
She was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Cocolamus, a daughter of the late William I. and Mary Alice (Smith) Leister. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell E. Wagner, in 1955. Her second husband, Banks L. Heckman, preceded her in death in 1993.
Surviving are: a daughter, Joy (Wagner) Houtz McLaughlin and husband Samuel, RR 2, Port Royal; a son, Willard R. “Woody” Wagner, RR 3, Port Royal; a sister, Dorothy (Leister) Arnold, Brookline Retirement Village; a grandson, Scott D. Houtz and wife Linda, HC-63, Mifflintown; two great-grandchildren, Selena (Houtz) Borhman and husband Lew, RR 3, Mifflintown, and Daniel S. Houtz, State College; and a great-great granddaughter, Taylor Borhman.
She was preceded in death by three brothers , the Rev. Maurice Leister, Lehman Leister and Jeremiah (Jerry) Leister; and a sister, Esther (Leister) Tennis.
Mrs. Heckman was a 1929 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville.
A longtime resident of Mifflin, she and her first husband, Russell, owned and operated Russ Wagner’s Grocery on Main Street. After his death at age 55, Maude became sole proprietor.
Following her marriage to Banks Heckman, she moved to Colonial Park and was employed as a clerk at the Kline Village 5 & 10. She was skilled in needlework and similar hobbies. She was a talented pianist and singer. She enjoyed teaching children, and while living in Mifflin, she taught Sunday and Bible school at the local church, where she sang in the choir and played piano for children. Her church, family and faith were always priorities. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Theodore Janke officiating. Interment will follow in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills.
The family will be present from 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
The family will provide all flowers and asks that memorial contributions be made to: Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, c/o Steve Beers, Treasurer, RR 2, Box 1088, Port Royal, PA 17082; or to a church or charity of one’s choice.

Merrill Abram Cutshall

LEWISTOWN — Merrill Abram Cutshall, 81, of East Fourth Street, Lewistown, went to be with the Lord from HCR ManorCare, Carlisle, after a long series of illnesses.
He was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, the son of the late Lloyd Cutshall and Minerva J. (Eckenberger) Cutshall. His wife of 53 years, Janet A. (Hantz) Cutshall, preceded him in death.
Surviving are: children, Steven M. Cutshall and wife Jane, Shiremanstown, Pa; a sister, Florence E. Ort, New Cumberland; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Cutshall.
He worked for the A&P food stores both before and after entering the Navy. He was also a block operator, working for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail for 33 years.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
He was a member of the Paintersville C&MA Church. He was an avid sportsman and served the community, working first as a deputy fish warden and then for many years as a game warden.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jerry Wise officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
The viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to his church: Paintersville C&MA Church, 3195 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.

John Robin Workman

NEWTON HAMILTON — John Robin Workman, 61, of Newton Hamilton, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Born Nov. 26, 1941 in Everett, he was a son of the late Charles and Ruth (Miller) Workman. His wife, Katherine (Koast) Workman, preceded him in death on June 19, 2001.
Surviving are two children, Robert Charles Workman and wife Gina of Oak Hill, WV and Robin Kathleen Maines and husband Robert of Mt. Union; siblings James Summers of Amesville, OH, Mrs. J. Ben (Peggy) Yoder of McVeytown and Daniel Workman of Morgantown, WV; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Workman.
He was a retired coal miner and machinist.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Townsend Funeral Home, 22 S. Mail St., Masontown with Rev. Nelson Roth officiating. Interment will be in Masontown.
Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m Tuesday.

Evelyn M. Hobble

LEWISTOWN — Evelyn M. Hobble, 57, of 305 S. Pine Road, Lot 17, Lewistown, died at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at her home.
Born Dec. 27, 1947, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Moore and Mary (Hesser) Cavanaugh.
She is survived by children, Beverly Goss, Gralen Hobble Jr. and Todd Hobble, all of Lewistown; sister, Bonnie Havice, of Lewistown; and grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Nathan, Tyler and Alexis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Glen Church of The Brethren. She also was a member of the Moose Family Center 143 and the Gold Star pool team.
Her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Pine Glen Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

Doris E. Miller

LEWISTOWN — Doris E. Miller, 71, of 41 Central Ave., Lewistown, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 12, 1933, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Roy C. and Myrtle (Shreffler) Miller.
She is survived by: the following children, Madeline Forshey and husband, Henry, Allentown, Irvin Bailets, Lewistown, Scott DeArment, Lewistown, Larry DeArment, Lewistown, and Kristie DeArment, North Carolina; a sister, Mary Confer, Allentown; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: a brother, Thomas Miller; a sister, Joyce Wilson; and a grandson, Tyler DeArment.
She was a homemaker and member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Lewistown.
She saved her unconscious grandson, Matthew DeArment, from death in a home fire, sacrificing her body, and being critically burned in 1996.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to: the Leukemia Society of America Inc., 800 Corp. Circle, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9436.

Doris Audell Edgin

MARCY, N.Y. — Doris Audell Edgin, 71, of Marcy, N.Y., passed away April 5, 2005, at home.
She was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Clarence J. and Anna Isabel Herster Oberlin. Her husband, Jesse J. Edgin, whom she married in August 1953, survives.
Also surviving are: four sons , David and wife Janet, Chittenango, N.Y., Darryl and wife Kathy, White sboro, N.Y., Gary and wife Marilyn, Marcy, N.Y., and Brian and wife Joyce, Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Michael Bushardt, Karen Garrett, and Kathleen, Nicole, Jessica, Kristie, Robbie and Rachel Edgin; and a great-grandson, Tyr John James Garrett.
Her funeral service will be held Friday at the J.W. Dimbleby Funeral Home, 40 Main St., White sboro. Interment will be in Carr Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Maynard Fire Department, Maynard Drive, Marcy, NY 13403; or Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
