Samuel A. ‘Sam’ Koppenhaver
Samuel A. “Sam” Koppenhaver, 84, of R.R.#1, Mifflintown, died at 7:30 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born August 8, 1919, in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Ralph A. and Edith A. (Warner) Koppenhaver. His wife, Elizabeth C. “Liz” (Segneri) Koppenhaver, whom he married September 21, 1941, preceded him in death on June 17, 2002.
He is survived by a daughter, Anna Marie Peck and her husband Donald E., Mifflintown; a son, Paul R. Koppenhaver and his wife Cathy, Mercer, Pa.; four grandchildren, David L. Peck, Donna M. Watts, Michael L. Peck and Paula K. Jones; and two great- grandsons, Austin S. Peck and Alec J. Watts.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald A. Copenhaver, on Dec. 29, 2002.
He was a retired self-employed farmer and retired as a welder, from the Maintenance Dept. of Standard Steel, Burnham.
He was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church, R.R.#1, Mifflintown, Union Lodge No. 324, F &AM, Mifflintown, and the Harrisburg Consistory.
He was a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran.
He was an avid outdoorsman, having enjoyed both hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, from the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Samuel P. Yoder
LEWISTOWN — Samuel P. Yoder, 71, of 1859 SR 103 North, Lewistown, died at 12:08 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004, the Lewistown Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Born March 4, 1933 in Bratton Township, he was a son of the late Guy and Alice (Espigh) Yoder. His wife, Carol M. Yoder, died April 18, 1998.
Surviving are: three children, Kimbra Wasson of Reedsville, Tina McCurdy and husband Mitch, Jeri Wolfkill and husband Chris, all of Lewistown; siblings, Betty Hartsock of Lewistown, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Swigart of Carlisle, Mrs. Lee (Marjorie) Gill of Lewisburg, Mrs. Rod (Linda) Laub of Jersey Shore; and two grandchildren, Michael G. McCurdy and Samantha L. Wasson.
He was preceded in death by: infant brother Eugene Grant Yoder, infant daughter Tonya Rae Yoder, and son-in-law Richard L. Wasson, Jr.
He was employed in the Wheel Mill Department at Standard Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church, a life member of City Fire Co., and also a member of the Masonic Lodge in McVeytown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Barr Funeral Home’s temporary location on the corner of Third and Juniata streets, Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard Bender officiating. Interment will follow at Mattawana Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing.

Willard C. ‘Bill’ Adams
Willard C. “Bill” Adams, 83, of Mifflintown, died Saturday, July 31, 2004.
His services will be on Wednesday, Aug. 4. The viewing will be at First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Columbia.

Lena J. Stuter
Lena J. Stuter, 89, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 12:10 a.m., Sunday, August 1, 2004, at Valley View Haven.
Born January 1, 1915, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Ore and Naomi (Hunter) Dixon. Her spouse, John Archie Stuter, died September 19, 1979.
Surviving are two children, Josephine Merrell of Huntingdon R.D. 2 and Steven T. Stuter of Lewistown; a grandson, Hunter F. Merrell, and two great-grandsons, Noah and Ethan Merrell.
She was preceded in death by two brothers , Wilbur Dixon and Merle Dixon and a sister, Ora O’Bryan.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville, with the Revs. Roger Witter and Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lea Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel until the time of services.

Sara E. Murphy
Sara E. Murphy, 81, of 363 N. Walnut St., Lewistown, returned to her heavenly home at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare—William Penn.
Born Oct. 10, 1922, in Bratton Township, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Mary (Espigh) Barth. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Murphy, in 1975.
Surviving are: six children, Patricia Barth and James D. Murphy, both of Lewistown, Thomas C. Murphy of Mifflintown, Linda L. Beatty of McAlisterville, Mrs. Jonathan (Connie) Watson and William A. Murphy, both of Lewistown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a son, John Murphy, on Nov. 5, 1996; two brothers ; and a sister.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Sprenkle officiating. Interment will be in Maitland Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.

Hildred P. “Sid” Barton
MECHANICSBURG — Hildred P. “Sid” Barton, 90, of The Bridges at Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg, formerly of South Wayne Street, Lewistown, died at 4:04 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Oct. 18, 1913 in East Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Samuel P. and Viola (Peck) Barton.
Surviving are: niece, Jane Allen and husband Allan Barton, Camp Hill; two nephews, William Allen and wife Linda, Duncannon, and James Allen and wife Kathy, Marysville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Greta E. Goss, March 8, 2000 and a brother, Carl Allen, June 29, 1965.
She was employed as a waitress at Green Gables, the South Side Hoagie Shop and the Nittany Lion Inn.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
A viewing will be held 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lewistown with the Revs. Ronald Guy and Delores Calhoun officiating. Interment will be at St. Mark’s Cemetery.

Jack L. Bowersox
Mr. Jack Lee Bowersox, Sr., 49, of Ickesburg, Saville Township, Perry County, entered into eternal rest at 7:38 a.m.,Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at his residence.
He was born in Harrisburg on February 21,1955, the son of the late Lester Eugene and Margaret Jane (Bennett) Bowersox. On October 6, 1976, he married the former Leslie C.McBride, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of nearly 28 years.
Jack graduated in 1974 from Greenwood High School, Millerstown.
He retired on December 8, 2003 from Overnite Transportation, Mechanicsburg, where he was employed for 12 years as a Dockworker. Previously he was employed by Capital Products also of Mechanicsburg for 16 years on the paint line and in trailer repair until the company closed.
He was a member of the Blessed Hope Bible Church, Liverpool.
Jack was additionally on a mens bowling league called “Ray’s Bowlers” at Mifflintown.
He was a devoted husband, Father and grandfather who cherished his family and the time he spent with them. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and sports. He was a great NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon. In sports he was an avid Penn State Football fan and a Philadelphia Eagles follower.
Surviving in addition to his wife,Leslie are three sons : Jack L.Bowersox, Jr. and wife Heather, Carlisle, Shawn A.Bowersox and wife Andrea, Ickesburg, and Anthony T.Bowersox, Shermans Dale; two grandsons, Wyatt Hayes Bowersox and Hunter Ipock; four brothers , William E. Bowersox and wife, Blanche f RR#1 Liverpool, David L. Bowersox of Millerstown, Douglas A. Bowersox and wife Jill of Shermans Dale, Randall A. Bowersox and wife Tracey of Millerstown; one sister, Sara A. Bowersox and fiance, Bill Singh of Loganton. Two generations of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Blessed Hope Bible Church, Liverpool, with pastor John C.Briggs officiating. Burial will follow the services in Hunter’s Valley Cemetery, Liverpool.
Family and friends will gather for the viewing on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Vivian S. Goldberg
DAGSBORO, Del. — Vivian S. Goldberg, 77, of Delaware, formerly of East Fourth Street, Lewistown, died at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Compassionate Care Hospice, Del.
Born Aug. 16,1926 in Oil City, Pa. she was a daughter of the late Meyer and Gittle (Goldberg) Sorkin. Her husband, Sol Goldberg, whom she married in March 1950, preceded her in death.
Surviving are: sister, Gretta Furst, Dagsboro, Del.; nephews, Timothy Furst, Frederick, Md., Andrew and wife Sheighla Furst, Dagsboro, Del.; niece, Debra Furst, Easton, Md.; and great-niece, Siobhan Wyatt, Dagsboro, Del.
She grew up in Altoona and graduated from Penn State University.
She taught in Mifflin County Schools for most of her adult life. She was active with the Mifflin County Library, the Mifflin County Chapter of PA Association of School Retirees, and the Mifflin County Historical Society.
A private graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Tiphereth Israel Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Arrangements are being handled by William Slater II Funeral Service, 1650 Greentree Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15220.

Florence Evelyn Kennedy
Florence Evelyn Kennedy, 86, of 242 Shaw Ave., Lewistown, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at her residence.
Born February 17, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Mary (Shaffer) Speece. Her spouse, J. Kenneth Kennedy, died in 1984.
Surviving are three children, Robert Kennedy of Texas , Joseph Kennedy of New Jersey and Mary Lee Wofkiel of Lewistown; two siblings, George Speece of Lewistown and Mary Poet of Florida; and three grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was an infant son, Ray Foster Kennedy.
She was a retired RN from Lewistown Hospital Recovery Room.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home’s temporary location on Third and Juniata streets, Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles Sprenkle officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.
There will be no public viewing.

Kenneth E. Miller, 73, formerly of Pleasant Acres, died at 10:35 a.m. July 28, 2004, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
Born October 30, 1930, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Dorothy Miller Plank.
Surviving are half brothers George Plank of Lewistown, Donald Plank of Burnham and Robert Plank of Middleburg; and a cousin, Ruth Bowlby of Lewistown.
He was employed at Standard Steel.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the
Korean War.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Rock Cemetery with the Rev. Clifford Miller officiating.
