Herbert W. ‘Herbie’ Wilson
BELLEVILLE — Herbert W. “Herbie” Wilson, 85, of 50 Valley Circle, Belleville, died at 3:49 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at Hershey Medical Center.
He was born April 5, 1919, in Cumberland, Md., a son of the late W. W. and Gladys (McKenzie) Wilson. His wife, Eleanor D. (Baker) Wilson, whom he married Jan. 19, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Betty J. Forshey and husband Alan, Milroy, Shirley C. Kinzie, Woodstown, N.J., and Reba L. Stuck and husband Dell, Belleville; siblings, Mary Kauffman and husband Alvin, Middlebury, Ind., and Harold Wilson, Ga.; two stepsisters, Mary Yoder and Esther Stuter, both of Belleville; seven Grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Patsy A. Fultz; a son-in-law, Gary E. Fultz; a sister, Vera Wilson; an adopted sister, Helen Peachey; and a stepbrother, J. Harvey Hostetler.
He worked at KaVee Ice Cream Co., was a mail carrier in Belleville, and retired in 1981 after 30 years of service from the Belleville Flour Mill, where he was the bookkeeper. After retirement he worked at Penn Nursery.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Belleville, where he served on the property and cemetery committees. He was also a member of the Belleville Fire Company for 55 years and was a Belleville and Mifflin County fire policeman, serving as chaplain for all three organizations. In addition, he was a member of Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935, Belleville. He enjoyed being with family, going hunting and bowling.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with the Revs. David Pennebaker and Rosalie Smith officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
The viewing will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville.

Martin H. Berger
MCCLURE — Martin “Marty” H. Berger, 78, formerly of McClure, died at 10:29 a.m. Feb. 23, 2005, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born June 26, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was a son of the late Louis and S. Augusta (Gross) Berger. His wife, Mary (Mondejar) Berger, whom he married June 26, 1960, survives.
Also surviving are daughter, Lisa A. Berger, of Back Maitland Road, McClure; and brothers , Eugene Berger and Joseph Berger, both of Florida.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was a manager of Manufacturing Engineering Fisher Electronic for 35 years, retiring in 1988.
He was an avid bowler in a local league.
His funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Tuvia Abramson officiating. Interment will be private.
Friends may call 7-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Robert L. 'Bo' Fry
THOMPSONTOWN — Robert L. “Bo” Fry, 68, of 3 Birch Drive, Thompsontown, died at 3:17 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Hershey Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 23, 1936, in Lewistown, a son of the late Ralph R. and Blanche I. (Lukens) Fry. His wife, Jane L. (Miller) Fry, whom he married June 15, 1974, survives.
Also surviving are nieces and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Richard N. and John E. Fry.
He was a 1954 graduate of Lewistown High School and attended Thompson Institute.
He was an auditor for the governor’s executive office of the Commonwealth of Pa., retiring Dec. 31, 1991.
A methodist by faith, he was a life member of AMVETS Post 122 and Mifflin County Sportsmen Association. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Millheim American Legion Post 444, sons of the American Legion and Richfield Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, carpentry, reloading, reading and spending time with family.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Clarence E. Spade
MCALISTERVILLE — Clarence E. Spade, 79, of R.R. 1 McAlisterville (Bunkertown), died at 11:35 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born Sept. 23, 1925 in Fayette Township, Juniata County, a son of the late Jerome E. and Grace I. (Leister) Spade. His wife, of nearly 60 years, Mildred I. (Adams) Spade, whom he married Nov. 5, 1945 survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Larry Spade, and wife Vicki, RR 2, McAlisterville, Douglas Spade, and wife Stephanie, Langhorne, Pa, Diane Spade, RR 1, McAlisterville, Randy Spade, and wife Shirl, RR 1, Thompsontown; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Thelma) Elsasser, RR 1, Richfield; five grandchildren, Jaime Spade, Hope Spade Agosto, Shelbee Dressler, Randy Guyer, Matthew Spade; and five great grandchildren, Alexa Agosto, Justus Agosto, Dakota Dressler, Bay Dressler and Rachel Dressler.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater.
In earlier life he worked in his Father ’s hatchery in Cocolamus. Later he worked for Precisionware, Thompsontown and then until retiring in 1987, he worked as a custodian for the Juniata County School District. After retiring, he continued to work for Lyon Fashions, McAlisterville.
He was a devoted family man, whose greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 28, from the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, Bunkertown, with his pastors, the Revs. Eugene Heidler and Forrest Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the McAlisterville Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.

Joseph D. Steffen
LEWISTOWN — Joseph D. Steffen, 92, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Spanogle Avenue, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 5, 1911 in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Margaret E. (Magruder) Steffen. His wife, Mary Regina (Megrenne) Steffen, whom he married on March 1, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are: a step-son, Donald Limes, 45 Elm Dr., West Hills, Lewistown; sisters Margaret E. Sellers, Lititz and Mary Crago, Lewistown; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a first class mechanic in the Coning Department at FMC Corp for 31 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, B.P.O.E. Lodge #663, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #143 and T.W.U.A. Local Retirees.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Mr. Charles L. Hershberger officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Philomena Himes
ZULLINGER — Philomena Himes, 93, of Zullinger, formerly of Lewistown, died at 11 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy.
Born Dec. 21, 1910 in McCartney, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Alice (Defour) Armstrong. Her husband, Gerald Himes, preceded her in death in 1969.
Surviving are: grandchildren Philomena F. Reed, Germantown, MD, Mrs. Marvin (Geraldine D.) Kayhoe, Waynesboro, Monica M. Kauffman, Chambersburg and Kirk V. Reed, Shippensburg; and great-grandchildren M. Andrew Kayhoe, Keith C. Kayhoe and William R. Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores M. (Himes) Reed, and a brother, George E. “Eddie” Armstrong.
She was cook at Granville Elementary School for many years, retiring in 1972.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home.

Faye Nale
MCALISTERVILLE — Faye Nale, 80, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67 Mifflin, and formerly of RR2 McAlisterville, died at 8:13 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1923, in Armagh Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse B. and Margaret (Ritter) Fultz. Her husband, Grant W. Nale, whom she married on Jan. 9, 1942, preceded her in death on March 4, 1998.
Surviving are: sons , William C. Nale and wife, Hazel, and Walter J. Nale and wife, Deborah, both of RR2 McAlisterville; a sister, Betty Farrell, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; a brother, Joseph Fultz, RR Sunbury; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker whose interests included sewing, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In earlier life, she attended the Evangelical Methodist Church in Locks Banks, PA, and currently had been attending the Evangelical Methodist Church in Oakland Mills and its Sunday School class.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Franklin E. Trego officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Memorial Gardens, RR4 Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present 7-9 p.m.

Richard N. Fry
LEWISTOWN — Richard N. Fry, 79, of Ridgeview Dr., Lewistown, died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born July 27, 1924, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ralph R. and Blanche (Lukens) Fry. He is survived by his wife, Grace (Heckert) Fry, whom he married on Sept. 5, 1947.
Also surviving are: daughters , Mrs. Joseph (Sharon) Spinelli of Coatsville and Mrs. James (Brenda) Dillman of Lewistown; a brother, Robert L. Fry, Thompsontown, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Fry, in 1989.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains, and was also a fan of Lewistown basketball.
He retired from Avtex Fiber in 1989 after 46 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, where he earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and the Infantry Combat Badge.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lewistown, Trout Unlimited and Moose Lodge #143 of Lewistown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles W. Sprenkle officiating. Interment will be private. military services will be provided by VFW Post 7011 Lewistown.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Richard L. Barber
LEWISTOWN — Richard L. Barber, 89, of 503 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1915, in Milton, as a son of the late Wilbur and Vera (Haupt) Barber. His wife, Vivian P. (Ocker) Barber, preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1995.
He is survived by a son, Edwin W. Barber, of McVeytown; siblings, Robert L. Barber and Betty Moore, both of Lewistown; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers , William, Carl and Wilbur Barber.
He was employed as a diesel locomotive repairman at Standard Steel, Burnham for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of Lewistown Lodge 203 F & AM.
His funeral service was held Monday, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clifford Miller officiating. Interment was at Juniata Memorial Park.

Mabel A. Witherite
PINE GROVE MILLS — Mable A. Witherite, 89, of Pine Grove Mills, died Sunday, March, 27, 2005, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
She was born Dec. 28, 1915, as a daughter of the late Robert W. and Gertrude Elma (Warren) Kelley. Her husband, William H. Witherite, whom she married Dec. 31, 1936, preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1973.
She is survived by children, Ronald H. Witherite, and wife Elaine, of Reedsville, Ella Mae Wasson, and husband Harry, of Centre Hall, RD, Rose M. Dillon and husband Robert, of Centre Hall, RD, Harry E. Witherite, and wife Neoma of Julian, John L. Witherite and wife, Betty, of Pine Grove Mills, Nancy L. Prough, and husband, Robert of Centre Hall, RD, Russell L. Witherite, and wife, Judy, of Spring Mills, Connie L. Young, and husband, Ronald of Port Matilda, Blaine W. Witherite, and wife, Susan, of rural Port Matilda, Phyllis Witherite, and companion, Michael, of Philipsburg, and Phillip “Tim” Witherite, and wife JoAnn, of Houtzdale; brother, Arthur Kelley, and wife, Janet, of Port Matilda; 34 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Donald Kelley, Louis Kelley, Ruth Stiver and Ethel Myers.
She was a prep chef for the Herlocher Restaurant, the Train Station Restaurant, the Nittany Lion Inn, and Penn Hiboy Restaurant.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills, Sunshine Sunday School Class, and the Nittany Antique Machinery Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and sewing.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills, with the Rev. Steven Claycomb officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
