Sgt. 1st Class (Ret.) Harry L. Boaz
EL PASO, TEXAS — Retired Sergeant First Class Harry L. “Sonny” Boaz, 71, of 6145 Qail Space 527, El Paso, Texas and formerly of McVeytown, went to join his daughter, Deborah L. “Debbie” Myers, in heaven, on Dec. 5, 2004, from Sierra Medical Center, El Paso. Deborah preceded his entrance into heaven on Aug. 19, 1996.
Born March 27, 1933, in McVeytown, he was a son of the late Harry E. and Evelyn (Ramsey) Boaz. His wife of 44 years, Thelma (Bonnetto) Boaz, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Sharon L. Goad and husband Danny of Fallbrook, Calif., Terry Lee “Skip” Boaz of Yeagertown, Michael and Jeffrey Boaz, both of Lewistown; sister Mrs. Mary Hannon and husband Earl of McClure; grandchildren, Victoria Lynch of San Diego, Calif., Jonathan Goad of Fallbrook, Robert G. Myers Jr. of Carlisle, Christa and Jessica Myers of Lewistown, Terry Lee Boaz Jr., Amy Boaz, both of Yeagertown, Mickey and Jennifer Boaz, both of Lewistown; and son-in-law Bob Myers and wife Tina of Lewistown.
He retired from the U.S. Army with more than 20 years of service, having served 12 months in Korea and 3 1/2 years in Vietnam. Citations include: FVN Gallantry Cross with palm, GCMDL 6th Award, AFEM (Korea), BSM with oak leaf cluster, ARCOM with oak leaf cluster, NDSM, VSM, VCM, Expert Marksmanship badge with rifle bar, and Driver and Mechanics badge. He also was an instructor for Job Corp.
military services will be held Wednesday, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, Texas .
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with the Rev. Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in Spring Run Cemetery with a military graveside service by VFW Post 7011. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Olive W. Ross
YEAGERTOWN - Olive W. Ross, 85, formerly of the rear of Lock Avenue, Yeagertown, died at 4:18 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at William Penn Beverly Health Care.
Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Russell L. and Marian (Shoemaker) Eby. Her first husband, Fred W. Phillips, and second husband, George C. Ross, both preceded her in death.
Surviving are: children, Fred W. Phillips, Middleburg, and Ronald L. Phillips, Yeagertown; a brother, Charles Eby Sr., York; a half sister, Helen E. Bavis, Lewistown; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: a son, two brothers , and a sister.
She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Mr. Melvin Messerman officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Carrie E. Singer
MIFFLINTOWN - Carrie E. Singer, 96, formerly of Mifflintown RR 4, died at 3:17 Friday, Feb.11, 2005, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR 1.
Born Sep. 4, 1908, in South Londonderry Township, Lebanon County, she was a daughter of the late Aaron and Lillie (Peffly) Ebersole. Her husband, Clarence W. “Sam” Singer, died on March 16, 1995.
She was the last of her immediate family, and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: two sisters , Rosie Yorks and Lily Ebersole; and three brothers , George Ebersole, Frank Ebersole, and Christ Ebersole.
She was a housewife, a member of Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, and enjoyed working with flowers and making baby clothes.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Steve Munger officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Hilda R. Lingle
YEAGERTOWN - Hilda R. Lingle, 97, formerly of 206 First St., Yeagertown, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
Born Dec. 5, 1907, in Milesburg, she was a daughter of William and Isabelle (Smith) McKinley. Her husband, Clyde William Lingle, preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1963.
She was the last of her immediate family, and is survived by: children, Itha M. Nixon, Lewistown, and Richard N. Lingle, Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She had been employed at American Viscose, Lewistown, and was a retired cafeteria worker from the Mifflin County School District.
She was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church.
She loved her church, enjoyed camping at her cabin in Poe Valley, and loved to travel. She was like a mother to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing.

Stella A. Moad
LEWISTOWN — Stella A. Moad, 96, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at Ohesson Manor.
A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.

Eugene M. Brubaker
REEDSVILLE - Eugene M. Brubaker, 81, of 4339 U.S. Highway 322, Reedsville, died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
Born July 22, 1923, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Earl A. Sr. and Sally (Winegardner) Brubaker. His wife, S. Margaret C. (Civitts) Brubaker, whom he married on Oct. 24, 1948, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Donald (Jane) Plourde, Palmyra, Paul Eugene Brubaker, Belleville, Mrs. Jack (Nancy) Miller, Lewistown, and Mrs. Steve (Ann) Shryock, Mechanicsburg; a brother, Earl A. Brubaker Jr., Lewistown; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Glen Franklin Brubaker, who died in 1950; and a sister, Vivian Brubaker.
He was a 1941 graduate of Milroy High School.
He was a farmer from Big Valley, and attended First Methodist Church, Lewistown.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Third and Dorcas streets, Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard Noll officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

George F. Meiser
MCALISTERVILLE - George F. Meiser, 81, of RR 2 McAlisterville, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Greenwood Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Luke and Effie (Cox) Meiser. He married Ruth E. (Sellers) Meiser June 2, 1945, and she preceded him in death in Nov. 1986. His second wife, Althea L. (Colyer-Baughman) Meiser, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1988, survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: children, Edgar H. Meiser and wife Heidrun, Big Spring, Texas , Harry L. Meiser and wife Melinda, RR 1 Thompsontown, Devera R. Meiser, Carlisle, Stanley R. Meiser and wife Karie, Abilene, Texas ; a stepson, Leon F. Baughman and wife Norene, RR 1 Mifflintown; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtni Meiser, and he was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by: three brothers , Dewey Meiser, Paul Meiser, Lewis Meiser; and a sister, Lenora Frymoyer.
In earlier life he worked for the Pa. Railroad, Enola, in addition to farming the family farm, which was his greatest enjoyment. Later he retired in 1985 with more than 28 years of service to the Commonwealth of Pa. State Hospital, Harrisburg. During his retirement he worked at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville.
Along with farming, he enjoyed hunting and visiting with his family and friends.
He was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, Richfield, and a current member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, where he had served on the church council.
His funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with his pastor, the Rev. James Park Bricker and Intern Erin Bovendam officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be held 4-9 p.m., with the family present 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the McAlisterville Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.

John L. Harbst Jr.
LEWISTOWN - John L. Harbst Jr., 68, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home and formerly of U.S. Highway 522 North, Lewistown, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at the nursing home.
Born May 30, 1936, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late John L. Harbst Sr. and Geraldine G. (Miller) Harbst. His wife, Leah M. (King) Harbst, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1985, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Gregory (M. Ellen) O’Donnell and Timothy P. Harbst, both of Lewistown; a brother, William D. Harbst, Lewistown; half sisters , Mildred McKnight and Gladys Fisher, both of Honey Creek Road; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two sons , John L. Harbst III and Lee A. Harbst; and two sisters , Jacqueline Knepp and Jane Hetrick.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed at Standard Steel, Burnham for 39 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Lewistown Moose Lodge #143, Milroy American Legion and United Steel Workers.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Ohesson Manor Chapel, with the Rev. John W. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park with military graveside conducted by VFW Post 7011.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the chapel.

Ned L. Baker
ENOLA, Pa. — Ned L. Baker, 89, of Autumn Lane, Enola and formerly of Perdix, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 at Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1915 in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Charles and Carrie (Spigelmyer) Baker. His wife, Ruth L. Spigelmyer, preceded him in death in June 2004.
He is survived by: children, Bonnie L. Baker and Reed L. Baker, both of Duncannon; sister Allegra Spigelmyer of Belleville; grandchildren, Roxann Chopp, Kristopher and Cody Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: siblings, Hulda Wright, Verletta Goss, Rosaline Boonie, Pauline Arnold, infant Marie Baker, Charles, Maxwell, Howard and Paul Baker.
He was a World War II veteran serving with the Army’s 344th Service Squadron in the Pacific.
He retired from Conrail, Enola Yards in 1978.
He was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he was a Sunday school teacher and was an Emeritus Member of the Consistory. He also was a member of the Marysville Golden Age Club.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, traveler, a devoted husband, Father , grandfather and brother, and a loving friend to all.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 117 Verbeke St., Marysville.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his church.

John W. Brehman
LEWISTOWN — John W. Brehman, 85, of 54 N. Pine St., Lewistown, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 at his home.
Born May 14, 1919 in McVeytown, he was a son of the late Cloyd and Carrie (Aultz) Brehman. His wife, Josephine E. (Snook) Brehman, whom he married in March 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: daughter, Beverly J. Sweger of Middletown; grandchildren, Kathi Eby Tommasino of Media, Pa., Scott Eby of Lewistown, Douglas Eby of McClure, and Kristin Fisher of Burnham; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Donald Brehman.
He was a United States Army veteran serving in the European Theatre in World War II and he received two Battle Stars and played in the Army Band.
He was employed as a staff manager and life underwriter for the American General Life Insurance Company for 36 years.
He was a life member of the Gospel Chapel in Lewistown, where he taught Sunday school and was a church secretary and song leader. He attended Calvary Bible Church in later years.
He was a member of: the Dutch Rabbit Club; Antique Car Club of USA; Antique Dealers Association; Antique Appraisers Club; the CLU of Life Underwriters.
His hobbies included breeding Dutch show rabbits, refinishing and selling antiques and antique appraising.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Juniata Memorial Park Chapel with Rev. Howard D. Houtz officiating. A private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no public viewing.
