Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Marlin M. Ellinger

LEWISTOWN — Marlin M. Ellinger, 75, of 841 Loop Road, Lewistown, died at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 14, 1929, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Clarence M. and Viola G. (Aurand) Ellinger. His wife Manila B. (Burdge) Ellinger whom he married Sept. 1, 1954, survives.
Also surviving are children: Mark M. Ellinger, 841 Loop Road, Lewistown and Mrs. Timothy (Nancy L.) Collins, 445 S. Brown Street, Lewistown; brothers and sisters : Mrs. Joe R. (Arlene) Stenson, Cortland, Kan., David A. Ellinger, Granville, Harry W. Ellinger, McVeytown, Mrs. Dwayne (Mary) Dahl, Cortland, Kan. and Mrs. William (Sharon) McCahren, Mifflintown and three grandchildren.
He was a self-employed dairy farmer. He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church, Fort Granville Grange, McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, and P.F.A. and served in offices of Twin Valley Local of Eastern Milk Producers.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown, with Rev. Mark Hill officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Beulah W. Guiser

MIFFLINTOWN — Beulah W. Guiser, 96, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflin, and formerly of Mifflintown died at 9:40 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Village.
Born January 31, 1908, in Beccaria Township, Clearfield Co., a daughter of the late George and Catherine (Myers) Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles S. Renninger in 1937, and her second husband Lloyd E. Guiser, in 1959.
She is survived by her children: Mrs. Elmer T. (Mary Ruth) Gray, Ft. Myers, Fla., Dr. Lynn G. Guiser and his wife Roxie, R.R. 3, Mifflintown; three grandchildren: Timothy E. Gray and wife Donna, Eric A. Guiser and wife Kimberly, Kurt L. Guiser and wife Missy; five step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Garrett T. Gray, Lane Carol Guiser, Anna Lynn Guiser and six step great-grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers , as well as two step-sons , Glenn Guiser and Phillip Guiser.
She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown and the Juniata County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
She was a graduate of Beccaria Township High School and Lock Haven State Teacher’s College.
She retired in 1971 from the Juniata County School District where she had taught at Thompsontown-Delaware Elementary School and Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School. Early in her teaching career she had taught at Beccaria Township Elementary School and in Belleville for the Mifflin County School District.
There will be no viewing.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, from the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, with her pastor Rev. William N. Esborn officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona PA 16601.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown.

Marjorie I. Kahley

McCLURE — Marjorie I. Kahley, 83, of McClure, entered into eternal rest at 8:09 a.m., Dec. 1, 2004, at the Lewistown Hospital, where she had been a patient since Nov. 21. Her health had been declining for the past several years. She was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Mifflintown, a daughter of the late Calvin and Phoebe (Heikes) Casner. Jan. 27, 1946, she married Elwood L. Kahley Sr. in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He passed away March 3, 2004.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1981, she retired from the Selinsgrove Center after many years as an aide. Earlier in life she was a waitress in the New Jersey Sea Shore area, while her husband played the organ. She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1938. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, gardening and painting.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Elwood L. and Kathe A. Kahley, Greeneville, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Kara A. Kahley and a sister, Helen LaRue “Rudy” Borhman.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters , Fred, Ross, Robert and Jim Casner, Dorothy Brannon, Irene Wagner and Gladys Swab.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday Dec. 4, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 168, McClure, PA 17841 or the American Lung Association of Central PA, 264 Market St. Sunbury, PA 17801.

Tristan D. Bishop

LEWISTOWN — Tristan D. Bishop, 505 Highland Ave., Lewistown, was still born, Dec. 1, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital.
Parents are Daniel and Angela (Bender) Bishop of 505 Highland Ave., Lewistown.
Surviving are a sister, Riley Bishop, at home; maternal grandparents, James and Gloria Bender, paternal grandparents, the late Daniel Bishop Sr. and Connie Weaver, all of Lewistown.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec.6, 2004, graveside at Juniata Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles Sprenkle officiating. Interment will be at Juniata Memorial Park. Barr funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary L. Snook Jr.

LEWISTOWN — Gary L. Snook Jr., age 31, of 505 Kenyon Ave., Lewistown, died at 4:50 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital Emergency room.
Born April 21, 1973, in Lewistown, he was a son of Gary L. Snook Sr. of 610 West Fourth St., and the late Carol L. ( White ) Snook, who died Oct. 21, 1994, and step-son of Linda F. (Narehood) Snook. His wife Billie L. (Kuhns) Snook, whom he married May 15, 1993, survives.
Also surviving are children: Aaron L. Snook and Trevor L. Snook both at home; sisters : Heidi A. Weyant and husband Dave, McClure, Christie Snook, Lewistown; step sisters : Kimberly Goss and husband Brian, Granville, Denise Peachey and husband Willis, Reedsville; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and extended families.
In addition to his mother , he was preceded in death by a sister and nephew: Susan and Sammy Yocum on Oct. 20, 1999.
He was a graduate of Lewistown Area High School class of 1991.
He was assistant manager at Sheetz and then worked for Trinity Plastics, Standard Steel and was a sub-contractor for Barner Electric HVAC and Lifestyle Construction.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1991 until 1995 and the national Guard from 1995 until 1999. He was a member of Samuel’s United Church of Christ.
He was actively involved with coaching Lewistown Panther Elementary Wrestling, Farm League Baseball and Lewistown Pee Wee football.
He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed camping and participation in his young sons sports.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Samuel’s United Church of Christ, 480 Samuel’s Church Road, McClure, with Rev. Clark S. Kelsey officiating.
Interment will be in Samuel’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown, and from 1 p.m., Monday until the time of service at the church.

Max R. Rowles

MIFFLIN — Max R. Rowles, 70, of Mifflin, died at 2:20 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at his home.
Born Sept. 21, 1934, in Perulack, he was a son of the late Calvin and Beulah (Emory) Rowles. His loving wife, June M. (Hubbert) Rowles, whom he married Jan. 19, 1976, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Tony Rowles Sr. and fiancee Kristi, of Mexico, Kelly Arnold Burdge and husband Joey, of Blairs Mills, Kitty Arnold Storey and husband Joe of Mifflin, and Toby Rowles of Palmyra; siblings: Dorothy Wileman of East Waterford, Freda Bargo and Mary Jane Dunn of Mifflintown, Yvonne Murphy of Mifflin, Harold Rowles of Mifflintown, and Darlene Leach of Port Royal; grandchildren: Brandon Burdge, who lived with him, Nathaniel Rowles, Zachary Zeiders, Tony Rowles Jr., Payten Rowles, Paige, Kara and Luke Storey, and Haley and Sawyer Burdge. He was a great pap and his grandkids will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Robert M. Rowles, William A Rowles Sr., and Betty Rowles; and granddaughter Kelsey Burdge.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving 1951-1954.
He was a retired welder and was a member of Pipeliner’s Union Local 798 for 48 years, the American Legion, the VFW and the Millerstown Moose.
He had two dogs, Buddy and Princess. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and riding around up the gap with good friends, especially, Donald Hutchinson.
His funeral service will be held at 8 p.m., Sunday, at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Shane Carter

LEWISTOWN — Shane Carter, 31, of 8519 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown, went home to be with the Lord at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born July 18, 1973 in Lewistown, he was a son of Edwin S. and Donna J (Grassmyer) Stein of 8519 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown, and Larry G. Carter Sr. of Lewistown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by: brothers , Scott A. Rhodes of Burnham, Steve M. Stein of Belltown and Larry G. Carter Jr. of Selinsgrove; maternal grandparents Donald and Patricia Grassmyer of Lewistown; and paternal grandmother Joy Carter of McVeytown.
He was a 1991 graduate of Indian Valley High School and was a tractor-trailer driver for Roadway Express.
He was associated with the Brethren in Christ Church and was a member of Teamster’s Union Local 776.
He enjoyed NASCAR and sprint races and working on cars in his garage.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Sam King officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to: Hospice-The Bridge, 400 Highland Ave., c/o Second Floor, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Betty L. Condron

LEWISTOWN — Betty L. Condron, 71, of 536 Woodland Ave., Lewistown, died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1933, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Carl W. and Flo A. (Shotzberger) Wagner. Her husband, William R. Condron, whom she married July 14, 1957, survives.
Also surviving are: children, David W. Condron and companion Betty Fidler, T. Michael Condron and wife Kimberly, all of Lewistown; siblings, Carl W. Wagner of Kissimmee, Fla., Mrs. John (Judith A.) Alexander of Lewistown and Mrs. Jonathon (Beatrice E.) Boyer of Port Royal; granddaughters, Bethaney, Courtney and Katrina Condron, and Tiffany Leese; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by: siblings, David L. Wagner and Marjorie L. Barger.
Early in life she worked at G.C. Murphy & Co., and later for Arrow Shirt Factory for many years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
She was an avid reader and loved spending time with family and decorating cakes.
Her funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, with Pastor Thomas Dunkle officiating.
Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

Barbara E. Shingler
LEWISTOWN — Barbara E. Shingler, 47, of 128 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 5:31 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1957 at the F.W. Black Community Hospital, Lewistown, she was the daughter of Alvin L. Wagner of Old Stage Road, McClure and the late Barbara L. (Parson) Wagner. Her fiance, Randy E. Baines, survives.
Also surviving are: children, David E. Beck and fiance Jamie Baker of Bannerville, Crystal A. Knepp, Heather J. Knepp and Colby I. Beck, all of Lewistown; siblings, Dorothy E. Freed of 126 Pannebaker Ave., Steven L. Wagner and wife Sherry, Deborah K. Young and husband Drew, both of Beaver Springs, Mark A. Wagner and wife Tammy, and Michael E. Wagner, both of Lewistown; stepbrothers, Richard L. Specht and wife Patti of Reedsville, and Dennis Specht and wife Joan of McClure; paternal grandmother Elizabeth T. Wagner, also of McClure; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Alvin G. Wagner.
She attended Lewistown and Chambersburg high schools.
She was a home health attendant for C.R.I. and U.C.P. of Lewistown.
She was a member of City Hook and Ladder and Decatur Volunteer fire companies. She was an avid Bingo player.
Her funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Rev. Kent VanDervort officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. A viewing will be held 2-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barbara’s family, in care of Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, PA 17084.

Jean Louise Martin
HARRISBURG — Jean Louise Martin, 77, of Villa Teresa Nursing Home, Lower Paxton Township, died Tuesday at Harrisburg Hospital.
She was a retired Executive Secretary from Villa Teresa Nursing Home and had also served as a secretary for Mallard Run Apartments, Camp Hill and the Catholic Witness. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Harrisburg.
She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Altoona, to the late Russell M. and Pearl E. Kennedy McManigle.
The widow of Eugene Cornell Martin, she is survived by two sons , Daro E. and George M. Martin both of Harrisburg; a daughter, Karen A. Persing of Harrisburg; two sisters , Mildred Royer and Sharon Copenhaver both of Lewistown; three step brothers , Gary Thomas of Lewistown, Terry Thomas of Blandon, Danny Thomas of Boyertown and one step sister, Barb Bitner of Reedsville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at her church with The Rev. Msgr. Robert E. Lawrence officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Russell T. ‘Spoke’ Young
McVEYTOWN — Russell T. “Spoke” Young, 77, of Pleasant View Road, McVeytown, died at 3:57 p.m., Wed., Dec. 29, 2004, at his home.
Born Aug. 23, 1927, in Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Harry W. and Laura Anna (Black) Young. His wife, Leah E. (Harshbarger) Young, whom he married Sept. 11, 1953, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Edward L. Young and wife Carol Ann, McVeytown; a daughter, Nina M. Tedeschi and husband James, Altoona; three brothers , John of Lewistown, Robert and Rodney, both of McVeytown; six sisters , Virginia Peck, McVeytown, Marcella Wyland, Belleville, Phyllis Stidfole, Williamsport, Thurnelda Harshbarger and husband George, McVeytown, Sarah White and husband Donald, Manheim, Martha Sellers and husband John, Lewistown; three grandchildren, Adam Young, Angelica and Chelsi Tedeschi.
He was preceded in death by a brother Wallace and a sister Leah Sunderland.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served as a corporal with the 30th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed by Pennsylvania Glass Sand and retired from Faylor Middlecreek in 1989.
He was a member of the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, the American Legion Logan Guard Post 90, Lewistown, and the National Rifle Assoc.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and woodworker.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Weidman officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana, with military honors conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home.
