Gladys V. Hannon
LEWISTOWN — Gladys V. Hannon, 88, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville and formerly of Old Park Road, Lewistown, died at 12:47 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at the nursing home.
Born May 4, 1916 in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Brent and Margaret (Hammond) Hockenberry. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Ray Hannon in 1965 and John “Jack” Frazier in 2000.
She is survived by: children, Mrs. Jack (Gerna) Shade and Blair P. Hannon, both of Old Park Road Lewistown, Wayne E. Hannon of Burnham, and Rickie L. Hannon of 234 Alexander Lane, Lewistown; siblings, Glenn Rae Mattern of East Petersburg, Betty Heeter of Maitland, Peg Boreman and Phyllis Dixon, both of Lewistown; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: son Ray Bryce Hannon; three brothers ; and two sisters .
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lewistown. Early in life she was employed at American Viscose Corporation and Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory for 30 years. She also was a member of Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at the Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville with the Revs. Galen Sharp and Derold Stump officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until time of service at the chapel.

Aiden Douglas McKee
MIFFLINTOWN — Aiden Douglas McKee, infant son of Leslie and Douglas McKee of Lancaster, Ohio, formerly of Mifflintown, was born Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, and died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus Ohio.
Aiden is survived by his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Carol Adams; his paternal grandmother, Teresa (Waples) McKee, great-grandparents Bonnie Brocious and Helen Adams, uncles and aunts, Donald McKee; Glen and Stephen Adams, Jennifer Roken and several cousins. Aiden was preceded in death by his grandfather Douglas McKee Sr.; great-grandparents, Donald and Mary Waples, Wilmer Brocious and Clair Adams.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, in Canal Winchester, Ohio.

Jason M. Kline
LEWISTOWN — Jason M. Kline, 25, of 50 Forest Edge Lane, Lewistown, died at 5:22 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1979 in Lewistown, he was the son of David Jr. and Dorrie Kline of 140 Fairway Place, Lewistown and Cindy (Richard) and Carl Carter Jr. of Forest Edge Lane.
In addition to his parents and stepparents, he is survived by: sister, Mrs. Jon (Nickea) Vargas of Yeagertown; maternal grandmother Esther Homan of Lewistown; paternal grandparents David Sr. and Phyllis Kline of Lewistown; and two nephews Austin and Garrett Vargas.
He was preceded in death by: maternal grandfather William Richard and paternal grandmother Arlene Kline.
He worked at Jeff Tate Paving.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Revs. Gary and Lisa Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Richard K. ‘Dick’ McCartney
LEWISTOWN — Richard K. “Dick” McCartney, 79, of 622 S. Grand St., Lewistown, died at 11:57 a.m., Dec. 21, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital in the emergency room.
Born Nov. 1, 1925, in Burnham, he was the son of the late John W. and Bessie (Palm) McCartney. His wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Attivo) McCartney, whom he married January 25, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are children: R. Daniel McCartney, 28 Fairway Place, Mrs. John (Kathleen) Zannino, Chambersburg and Timothy A. McCartney, Mechanicsburg; five grand children and a great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean M. McCartney, April 22, 1996.
He was the supervisor of the physical testing lab at Avtex Fibers for 43 years, retiring in 1989.
He served with the Army Engineers during WW II in both European and Pacific Theaters of Operations and with the Infantry in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and the following awards: the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and four Bronze Battle Stars.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A life-member of American Federation of Musicians Local 660, State College, past president and treasurer of Rayona Supervisors Club, an officer of Lewistown Radio and Control Society, past president of the Lewistown Kiwanis Club and member of the Lewistown Pistol Club.
He did Jazz radio for WKVA-WIEZ for 21 years; led dance bands in the area as a drummer and vocalist for 30 years. He was also announcer and Publicity Director for Port Royal Speedway for 10 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Rev. Bernard Oniwe officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap Cemetery.
There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends from 7-9, Thursday evening at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
The family will provide all flowers and requests that memorials be made to Lewistown Hospital General Fund, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, Pa. 17044.
Mary G. French
McVEYTOWN — Mary G. French, 87, of 183 French’s Lane, McVeytown, was serenaded by angels as she entered eternity with Jesus at 5:38 p.m, Monday, Dec. 20, 2004.
She was born in Bratton Township on June 19, 1917, the daughter of E. J. and Maude (Miller) Harshbarger. Her husband of 68 years, Mark E. French, survives.
Also surviving are four children and their spouses: daughter Faith and Bob Yoder of Grand Junction, Colo.; son Sheldon and Thelma French of Belleville; son Randy and Sandy French of McVeytown and daughter Andrea and Theil Kauffman of McVeytown; ten grandchildren also survive: Lynn, Jay, Sonya, Brad, Michelle, Angie, Andre, Ryan, Larry and Charity; six great-grandchildren: Kevin, Garrett, Ross, Lauren, Mark, Andrew; and a sister, Mildred Stayrook of Belleville.
She was preceded in death by siblings Cuma, Blanche, Bernice, John I, Peg, Margie, Guy, Gertie and Robert.
Mary was a homemaker for many years, then received her GED diploma and LPN License. She was employed by and retired from Valley View Haven, Belleville.
She was a member of the Mattawana Mennonite Church, where she was active in the Sewing Circle as long as she was able. She was known throughout the years for her sewing and quilting abilities and she handcrafted many beautiful quilts and wall hangings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Mattawana Mennonite Church with the Rev. M. Leon Yoder and her nephew Keith Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., this evening at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, and from 9 a.m., until the time of service, Thursday at the church.

Thomas A. “Tomy” Peters
LEWISTOWN — Thomas A. “Tomy” Peters, 23, of 610 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Lewistown Hospital after struggling with cancer for four years.
Born April 6, 1981, in Lewistown, he was a son of Alan and Kathy (Markle) Peters, both of Lewistown.
Also surviving are: one brother, David L. Peters, York; and paternal grandmother, Gayle Peters, McClure.
He was preceded in death by: paternal grandfather, Guy A. Peters; and maternal grandparents, Raymond and Margaret Markle.
He was a Penn State student and a member of the Air Force ROTC.
He delivered the Harrisburg Sunday paper and worked at Snedeker’s Oil and a former JPM Corp., Beaver Springs.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Lewistown, the Youth Fellowship, Junior Choir, Mission trip to Alaska, Youth Representative of Huntingdon Presbytery, member of Lewistown High School marching band, indoor percussion and concert band, spent three of years with the National Honor Society and Volunteered at the Lumina Center.
Also, he played baseball for Mifflin Co. Pony League and Lewistown Little League. And he played soccer for Mifflin Co. Youth Soccer. He had a passion for World War II reenactment.
His funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bruce Hinderliter officiating. Interment will be private.
A viewing for family and friends will be held 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the funeral home.

Rev. Earl Dwight Rowland
BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Rev. Earl Dwight Rowland, 81, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at 6 p.m. after a long illness with cancer.
He was born at Hagerstown, Md., Aug. 30 , 1923 , the youngest of four children of the late Rev. Elmer S. and Kathryn Mae Rowland.
In 1948, Mr. Rowland married the Ferne Phillips of New Hope, Va., who preceded him in death Feb. 26, 2000. Also preceding him in death were an infant sister, Evelyn and a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Finkel in 1983.
Mr. Rowland is survived by three sons : Rev. Philip Rowland, St. Louis, Mo., Dennis Rowland, Fallbrook, Calif., and Rev. Curtis Rowland, Milford, Ind.; one brother, Herbert Rowland, Waynesboro; four grandsons and three great-grandsons.
He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1949 and Bethany Theological Seminary in 1952. He served pastorates in the Church of the Brethren at Blue Ridge and Broadway in Virginia, and at Annville and McVeytown in Pennsylvania . He served his denomination as delegate from the local church to the District and to Annual Conference and on numerous other committees within his denomination.
Vocal music was an important interest in his life even from early childhood through college. He sang in men’s quartets and church choir. He celebrated his eightieth birthday by giving a voice recital with his son Philip, church organist in St. Louis, Mo.
Since May 2002 he has resided in the Bridgewater Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. by Pastor Robert Alley and Rev. Randall Yoder, Huntingdon.
A private family burial will be held at the Barren Ridge Church Cemetery in Augusta County.

Donald H. Hower
MIFFLINTOWN— Donald H. Hower, 76, of RR1, Mifflintown, died at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Port Royal at the residence of his son Timothy Hower, who he had been residing with since May.
Born July 19, 1928, in Port Royal, Juniata County, a son of the late Charles and Effie (Goshorn) Hower. His wife, of 51 years, Myra E. Hower, whom he married on November 23, 1952, at the East Waterford Presbyterian Church preceded him in death on May 7, 2004.
He is survived by: one daughter, Susan Stimeling and her husband Brittin, McAlisterville; two sons , Paul Hower and wife Becky, Newport, and Timothy Hower and wife Laurie, Port Royal; one brother, Larry Hower, Mifflintown; two sisters , Helen Dysinger, Thompsontown, and Dorothy Sankey, McAlisterville; nine grandchildren, Tammy Book, Lora Gibson, David Stimeling, Donnie Stimeling, Danny Stimeling, Michael Hower, Vanessa Hower, Lindsey Hummel, Kristen Hummel; and six great-grandchildren, Matthew Book, Brittinee Book, Rebecca Book, Cale Book, Ashley Gibson, and Ethan Stimeling.
He was preceded in death by: three brothers , Melvin Hower, Wayne Hower, and Max Hower; and two sisters , Lillian Gross and Mary Winey.
He was a 1947 graduate of Juniata Joint High School.
He enjoyed taking walks on the mountain, hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, working with wood, and was a bee-keeper, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In earlier life he had worked at the American Viscose, Lewistown, and later he retired from PennDot, Mifflintown, in 1990. He had also served as a Supervisor for Fermanagh Township for 34 years.
He was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, RR1, Mifflintown. He also belonged to the Lost Creek Trout Club, PA Trappers Assoc., the NRA, and the Bunkertown Men’s Chorus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, from the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, RR1, Mifflintown, with Pastor Donald Raffensperger officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the church.

Russell C. Bailey
BELLEVILLE —Russell C. Bailey, 89, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, and formerly of U.S. Highway 522 N.,went home to be with the Lord at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. He died as he lived and he lived satisfied with Jesus.
Born March 31, 1915, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Russell F. and Carrie E. (Peters) Bailey. His wife, Hazel (Manbeck) Bailey, whom he married on Nov. 1, 1941, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Russell W. Bailey, Milroy; two daughters , Mrs. Jeff (Nancy) Hartley, Reedsville, and Mrs. George (Linda) Harpster, Lewistown; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: two brothers ; and two sisters . He was the last of his family.
He retired with 17 years as a crane operator for Standard Steel and once owned Bailey’s Garage.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. in WWII.
He attended Old-Fashioned Baptist Church, Ferguson Valley Road.
He loved his grandchildren and was an accomplished artist.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in the chapel at Valley View Haven, Belleville, with Brian E. Hampton officiating. Interment will be in the Maitland Brethren Cemetery.
His visitation for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the chapel.
Family members will provide all flowers.

Donald E. Rager
HERSHEY — Donald E. Rager, 77, Hershey, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Hershey Medical Center.
He was a member of Fishburn United Methodist Church, the Lion and Elks clubs. He was a WWII Navy veteran.
Surviving are: his companion, Antoinette Shorten, one step-son, James Naugle, Gains; two step- daughters , Janet Leach, Murells Inlet, S.C., Bonnie Settino, Hummelstown; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at his church. Rev. Dale Parker will be officiating. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Hetrick Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut St., Harrisburg.
