Charles A. ‘King’ Coder Jr.
LOCK HAVEN, Charles A. “King” Coder, Jr., 84, of Lock Haven, and formerly of Mifflin died at 6:50 a.m. , Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at the Lock Haven Hospital.
He was born May 1, 1920 in Mifflin, Juniata County, a son of the late Charles A. and Lottie (Hockenberry) Coder, Sr.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters , Martha Clements, Sarah Davis, and one brother Harry R. “Honeybee” Coder.
He retired from the Pa. Railroad, and he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, from the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, with the Rev. David A. Cook officiating.
Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

George L. Griffith
BELLEVUE, Neb. — George L. Griffith, 86, of Bellevue, Neb., formerly of Lewistown, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 in a nursing home in Bellevue.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, he was a son of the late Lattimer G. and Olive J. (Freniere) Griffith. His wife, Martha Jane (Grove) Griffith survives.
Also surviving are: children, Marshall Griffith of Cleveland, Ohio, and Joan Griffith of Minneapolis, Minn. ; and half-brother Michael R. Griffith of Yeagertown.
He was a graduate of the Lewistown High School Class of 1937.
He retired as a lieutnenant colonel from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and was a veteran of World War II. He served in Japan and Korea.
He was a teacher at Bellevue College.
Margueritte E. Logan
LEWISTOWN — Margueritte E. Logan, 75, 3101, U.S. Highway 522 North, died, Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at her residence.
She was born April 27, 1929, in Lewistown, to the late Edward R. and Anna E. (Sassaman) McBride.
Her husband, Charles R. Logan Jr., preceded her in death May 13, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth (Sunderland) Bretz of Lewistown; three sisters : Emma Wagner of Lewistown, Alma Wagner of Yeagertown, and Carol Griffith of Belleville; two grandchildren: Mark Sunderland and Gina Miller; three great-grandchildren: Ashlee Sunderland, Teague Miller and Taylor Miller. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A graduate of Yeagertown High School, she then worked at Hertzler & Zook, the proof department of the First National Bank, and co-owned Leister’s Greenhouse with her husband.
Her memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., with the Rev. Dale Dobbs officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt. Rock Cemetery.
Marjorie (Whitaker) Smith
HUNTINGDON —Marjorie (Whitaker) Smith, 80, of RD 2, Box 11, Huntingdon, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2004, at the Altoona Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1924, in Huntingdon, the daughter of Attorney Clarence and Bessie (Lincoln) Whittaker. Marjorie was united in marriage on June 2, 1945, to Thomas Alton Smith at the Presbyterian Church of Huntingdon. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Harry L. Geisinger.
Marjorie is survived by her husband who resides at home near McAlevy’s Fort; two daughters and two sons : Mary Ellen Charniga of Lancaster, Jane Erving of Maytown, Robert Smith, residing at home and David Smith of Huntingdon.
She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer, Alton, James and Erin and two great-grandchildren: Brandon and Christopher. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were two sisters : Mary and Martha, and three brothers : Herbert, Richard and James.
She graduated from Huntingdon High School in the class of 1942, and attended Juniata College, she was employed in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1943-1944. She also worked for the John R. Wald Co.
Throughout her life, Marjorie was an avid music lover. She taught private piano lessons in her early years. As a member of the McAlevy’s Fort United Presbyterian Church, she was a chair director and church organist for many years. She enjoyed being the organist for many local weddings. Marjorie was a member of the daughters of the American Revolution and the Shaver’s Creek Grange. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be dearly missed by her family.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon, with Pastor Daniel Morris officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m., on Wednesday and from 9 until the hour of the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Greenlea Cemetery, McAlevy’s Fort.
Howard H. Schnure
LARGO, Fla. — Howard Hopkins Schnure, 94, of Largo, Fla. and formerly of Shamokin Dam, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Largo Medical Center, Largo, Fla.
Born July 10, 1910 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late William M. and Margaret (Pippet) Schnure. His first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Purdy, whom he married in 1937, preceded him in death in 1957. His second wife, Ann Johnson, preceded him in death in 1982. He was currently living in Largo with his longtime companion, Jeanbelle Bodtke.
He is survived by: children, Sarah Jane Lindsay and husband William E. of Huntsville, Utah, James Purdy Schnure and wife Alice of Milroy; grandchildren, William Lindsay and wife Julie, Elizabeth Ann Lane and husband Michael, Matthew Selin Schnure and Jeffrey Howard Schnure; great-grandchildren, Connor and Katie Lindsay; and sister Margaret Jane Schnure of Selinsgrove.
He was educated at Selinsgrove High School, Staunton military Academy, and later at Duke University, where he was a standout baseball pitcher. After working in Philadelphia for several years at Buckley brothers Investment Co., he returned to Selinsgrove to continue the family business, Central Penn Wilbert Vault Company.
He was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Country club, Central PA Chamber of Commerce, Largo Elks Club, Snyder County Historical Society, and the Society of Cincinnati. He also was on the board of directors of the Snyder County Trust Company. He was an avid traveler, covering six continents. He was a fan of baseball, played golf, enjoyed gardening and also was a vintner.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at The V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, PA 17870, with the Rev. Glenn T. Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
Friends and family may visit 1-2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Clell William “Will” Mitchell
MIFFLINTOWN - Clell William “Will” Mitchell, 32, of RR 3 Mifflintown, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Miami, Fla., as a result of a heroin overdose.
Born April 11, 1972 in Lewistown, he was a son of Maxine (Barner) Mitchell Zook of Mifflintown RR 3 and the late Larry Elmer Mitchell. His stepfather, Leonard R. Zook, his foster sister Lakata Hostler, one brother, Jerome R. Mitchell and wife Sarah of Mifflin, his grandmother Arlene Barner of Lewistown, one niece Samantha Lynne Mitchell and several aunts and uncles also survive.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Malvern Barner, his grandparents Audrey and Clell Mitchell, and aunts, Vonnie Ridley and Judy Medley.
He had worked for Capital Towers in Mechanicsburg.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004, in the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, near the Port Royal exit of Route 322, with Pastor Warren Peachey officiating. Interment will be at a later time in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing.

Newton Lee Pressler
BELLEVILLE - Newton Lee Pressler, 88, of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, and formerly of Warriors Mark, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1916, in Newton Hamilton, he was a son of the late Newton Lee and Laura Mae (Rosenberry) Pressler. His wife, Marjorie B. Rumberger, whom he married on June 30, 1940, preceded him in death. They enjoyed a 58 year marriage before her death in 1998.
He graduated from Warriors Mark High School in 1933. He served in the Civil Conservation Camp at Kane, Pa. He then worked as a mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad at Altoona. He was a tosser and setter on green brick and pan operator at the McFeely Brick Company, Port Matilda. He also worked at Big Yank in Tyrone. Finally, he worked in tech service maintenance at Penn State University in the College of Health and Human Development, from where he retired in 1983.
Newton and Marjorie live din Warriors Mark from 1946 to 1996 before moving to the Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville. They were active card-players with other Valley View residents and friends.
He was a lifetime member of the Hookies Volunteer Fire Co., a charter member of the Warriors Mark-Franklin Fire Company and a member of the Big Valley EMS, Belleville. He attended the former Centre Line United Methodist Church and chapel services at Valley View.
He was a vital , active man who enjoyed golf, bowling, playing pinochle, driving his Impala, debating politics, and especially, eating at the Camelot Restaurant. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by a son: Lee Pressler and daughter-in-law, Judy Pressler, of Centennial; a granddaughter: Melissa Pressler of Philipsburg; a brother: Harrison Pressler of Tyrone; and a sister: Alma (Pressler) Spicer of State College. He was also close to his wife’s family and is survived by her sisters : Josephine R. Houser, Martha R. Colbert, Doris R. Bickle, Teddie R. Wineland, and Donna Rumberger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, and his three infant sisters .
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, and 10 to 11 a.m Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Galen L. Sharp officiating.
In addition, there will be a memorial service at Valley View Chapel, Belleville, at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, for his resident friends. Memorial contributions in remembrance of Mr. Pressler are requested for: the Valley View Retirement Community Endowment Fund, 4702 E. Main St. Belleville, PA 17004.
Glenn D. Flood
BLAIRS MILLS — Glenn D. Flood, age 84, formerly of Blairs Mills, Pa., died on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, in Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia.
Born July 24, 1920, in Blairs Mills, he was a son of the late Charles and Maude (Kent) Flood.
Glenn was a member and trustee of Salem United Methodist Church in Blairs Mills. An independent farmer and saw mill operator, he also was employed as an iron worker at Three Mile Island and Berwick Nuclear Plants. He served on the Salem Cemetery Association, and served on the Orbisonia School Board when Saltillo and Orbisonia schools joined together to form Southern Huntingdon. He served as an assistant fire warden in Huntingdon County, and he loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Lillian C. (Kling) Flood, whom he married on March 28, 1941; one son, Harold G. (and wife Louise) Flood of Lewistown, PA; one daughter, N. Carolyn (wife of James) Fleming of Blairs Mills; one sister Evelyn Risinger of Loysville, PA; four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers , Ralph, Charles, Ross, and Lauren; and one great granddaughter, Megan Fleming.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in the Salem United Methodist Church, Blairs Mills. The Rev. Michael Purnell will officiate. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, Blairs Mills. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m on Thursday in the John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, and then from 1-2 p.m. on Friday in the church.

George Vargo
LEWISTOWN — George Vargo, 74, of 915 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at his home.
Born March 30, 1930, he was a son of the late George Vargo and Mary (Castura) Vargo of the Malta Home.
Arrangements will be private, under the direction of Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
Elva B. Shatzer
ELIZABETHVILLE, Pa. — Elva B. Shatzer, 84, a resident of the Kepler Home, Elizabethville and formerly of South Main Street, Lewistown, died at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born April 7, 1920, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Bruce F. and Vertie (Ryan) Stump. Her husband, Howard H. Shatzer, preceded her in death April 14, 1982.
She is survived by daughter Marsha L. Powell of Elizabethville.
She was employed in the cake converting department of the American Viscose Corp.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lind Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Noll officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
William Bruce Rager
MILROY — William Bruce Rager, 82, of 125 King St., Milroy, died at 12:35 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, in Lewistown Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1922, in Milroy to the late Richard J. and Esther (Wagner) Rager. His wife, Lois J. (Penepacker) Rager preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1992.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Sue Ellen and husband Daniel Ramer of Harrisburg, Mrs. Mary Lou Kibe and husband Donald of Milroy, William B. Rager and wife Judy of Milroy and David C. Rager and wife Cathy of Pompano Beach, Fla., ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rager was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He taught school at the Lewistown High School and the Mifflin/Juniata Counties Vo-Tech School for 35 years, retiring from the Vo-Tech school in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Sixth Armored Division in Europe, receiving the Purple Heart with Cluster.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Milroy, he was very active in the church, Sunday School, church choir and church council. He was a member of the Milroy American Legion, Milroy Lions Club for over 50 years, various Armagh Township offices, and the Retired Teacher’s Assoc. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a 1940 graduate of Milroy High School and received his BS and Master ED degrees from Penn State University.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milroy, with Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

Anna Mae Master
RICHFIELD — Mrs. Anna Mae Master, 89, of RR 1, Richfield, Monroe Township, Juanita County, entered into eternal rest at 2:16 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in Brookline Manor Nursing Home, RR 1, Mifflintown, where she had resided for one month.
Mrs. Master was born on April 26, 1915, in Juanita County, a daughter of the late Norman H. and Lillie Mae (Leister) Niemond. On Feb. 4, 1939, she was married to Paul William Master who preceded her in death on May 28, 1985.
She was educated at the Stony Run Grammar schoolhouse in Juniata County. She retired after over 40 years employment as a seamstress for the L. Shellenberger & Son Shirt Factory in Richfield. Mrs. Master was a long time member of Niemonds Independent Church, RR 1, Lauver Road, Richfield. She had served as church pianist earlier in life.
She cherished her family and her many friends and enjoyed going out to dinner, usually in the company of her sister Betty. Past time activities included her accomplishment in cross stitch quilting.
Surviving are two sons and daughters -in-law: Norman E. Master and wife, Norma E. of McAllisterville and Robert E. Master and wife Jane A. of RR 2 McAllisterville; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother: Lester Niemond and his wife, June, of HCR 63, Richfield; one sister, Betty Hoffman of RR 1 Richfield, and three generations of nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Hoffman was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, John Hoffman.
The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, from Niemonds Independent Church, Lauver Road, Richfield, with Pastor J. Arthur Mott officiating. Burial will be made in the adjoining church cemetery.
Family, friends and others will gather for the viewing on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
