Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Alden Crissman

BRADENTON, Fla. — Alden Crissman, 92, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Harrisburg and Lewistown, passed away Thursday, in Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla.

He was a retired salesman for Pierce Phelps Company. He was a member of the First Brethren Church and Rolling Green Country Club, in Sarasota, Fla. He was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Penbrook and the Colonial Country Club. He was a former Lewistown girl’s softball coach, which played in Madison Square Garden. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and former professional bowler. He graduated from Lewistown High School, the Harrisburg Academy, where he recently was named into the Athletic Hall of Fame, and he attended West Chester University.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zora I. Crissman.

He is survived by his son, Gary A. Crissman and his wife, Helen, of Lower Paxton Township; two granddaughters, Jennifer Ishler and her husband, Matthew, of State College, Catherine Sullivan and her husband, David, of East Greenwich, R.I., and one great-granddaughter, Emily Ishler, of State College.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Hetrick Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut St., Harrisburg. Graveside services and burial will be held at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.

There will be viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to his church at 150 N. Shade Ave., Sarasota, FL 34237, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Evelyn A. ‘Evie’ Stuck

BELLEVILLE— Evelyn A. ‘Evie’ Stuck, 74, of 50 Rockville Road, Belleville, died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 9, 1933, in Lewistown, to the late Lester L. Yoder Sr. and stepmother, Ivalou L. Yoder, she was preceded in death by her mother Eleanor Komorek and stepfather, Albert Komorek, and her husband Rush G. Stuck Jr., who died Jan. 2, 2003.

Surviving are children: Layne G. Stuck, Lewistown, Brian G. Stuck, Belleville, Marla Smoker and husband, Michael, Belleville, Darren G. Stuck and wife, Suzanne, Belleville, and Timothy A. Stuck, Belleville; granddaughter, Lindsey Aurand and grandson, Jesse Stuck; brothers and sisters : Dawnmarie Barger and husband, John, Milroy, Lester L. Yoder Jr., Westminster, Colo., Dale Yoder, Milroy, and Susan Hartzler and husband, Robert, Milroy.

She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Rockville Fellowship Church of Belleville.

Evie was a special caregiver to her family and those she knew.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, with the Rev. Harold Sharp officiating. Interment will be at Machpelah Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rockville Fellowship Church, 319 Rockville Road, Belleville, PA 17004.

Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul L. Spade

McALISTERVILLE — Paul L. Spade, 84, of RR1, McAlisterville, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at his home.

Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late John S. and Mary (Amey) Spade. His wife of nearly 65 years, Ethel M. (Hood) Spade, survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert P. Spade and his wife, Nancy, RR1, McAlisterville, Carol Brosius and her husband, John, Mount Pleasant Mills, Brenda Bassler and her husband, Ken, RR1, McAlisterville, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers , Roy Spade and Charles Spade.

Paul was a member and former trustee of the Turkey Valley United Methodist Church, RR2, Millerstown.

Until his retirement in 2000, due to his health, he was a self-employed farmer all of his life.

He was an avid and successful hunter, as well as a family man who enjoyed all of his family’s gatherings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from the Turkey Valley United Methodist Church, RR2, Millerstown, with the Rev. Salvatore Buonocore officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from noon until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

Memorial donations in Mr. Spade’s memory may be made to the Turkey Valley United Methodist Church, RR2 Box 605, Millerstown, PA 17062 or to the American Cancer Society, 324 S. Logan Blvd., Suite B., Burnham, PA 17009.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.

William I. Riddleberger III

LEWISTOWN — William I. Riddleberger III, 87, formerly of 17 French Drive, Lewistown, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at the New York State Veteran’s Home, Oxford, N.Y.

Born Jan. 18, 1920, in Charlestown W.Va., he was the son of the late William I. Jr. and Daisy F. (Gibbons) Riddleberger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah K. (Miller) Riddleberger, on June 22, 2004.

Children surviving: William E. Riddleberger and wife, Gae, Endicott, N.Y., and Linda K. Adamchak and her husband, Fred, Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren: Toby Riddleberger and his wife, Pamela, Kevin Riddleberger and his fiance, Angie, Eric Riddleberger, Brock Adamchak and his wife, Lynn, Daniel Adamchak and his wife, Denise; six great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by an infant brother, Leonard F. Riddleberger, in 1918.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II in the European Theatre; he was a first lieutenant serving as a pilot of B-24s in the 392nd Bond Group Eighth Air Force; he flew more than 22 missions to Germany before being shot down and then became a prisoner of war in Stalog I.

He was owner/operator of Lewistown Ice and Storage Company for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, where he was very active and was past elder and an ordained deacon.

He was a member of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge No. 203, Jaffa Temple and Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Lewistown Lions Club.

His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011.

There will be no public viewing; however, family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA17044.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

Mildred Ruth Morgan Smith

LEWISTOWN — Mildred Ruth Morgan Smith, 97, of 508 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at her home.

Born March 25, 1910, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late John Howard and Barbara (Brought) Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd C. Smith, on June 6, 1983.

Children surviving: William E. Smith and his wife, Beverly, Columbia Cross Roads, and Carl C. Smith and his wife, Danna, Lewistown; grandchildren: Sandy Kisinger and her husband, Joe, Canton, David Smith, Folsom, Calif., Robert Smith and his wife, Julie, Crumpton, Md., and Michael Smith, Fort Myers, Fla. Her grandchildren will miss their late-night phone calls to her; five great-grandchildren: Sierra Kisinger, Parker and Allyson Smith, and Emily and Nathan Smith.

She also was preceded in death by brothers : Carl, Kenneth and Ronald Morgan, and sisters : Edna Walk and Romaine Rake.

She was a graduate of Lewistown High School Class of 1927.

She was employed as an operator at Western Union Telegraph Company, from 1927 to 1941.

Beginning in the 1930s, she and her husband owned and operated Smith’s Atlantic Service Stations, on Market and Grand Street, and on West Fourth Street. They also were the founders and operators of Smith Tire Sales, in Lewistown, along with several other business and rental properties.

As of 2007, she was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church, in Lewistown; she joined the church in 1921. She was a member of the J.O.C. Sunday school class, Order of the Eastern Star No. 283, Galilee Shrine No. 30, Ladies Auxiliary, attached to Lewistown Commandery Knights Temple No. 26 and was past president.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family; she also enjoyed music and travel.

Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice-The Bridge, c/o Lewistown Hospital, Second Floor, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Josephine G. Crozier

LEWISTOWN — Josephine G. Crozier, 88, of Kish Apartments, 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.

Born March 23, 1919, in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Chester R. and Bessie (Groninger) Barton. Her husband, David W. Crozier, preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1976.

Surviving are daughters : Mrs. Terry (Joanne) Henry, Burnham, and Donna M. Crozier, Baltimore, Md.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. James (Martha) Beatty, Mifflin, and a brother, Paul R. Barton, Mifflintown, grandchildren: William and Donald Hockenberry, Vickie Ditzler and husband, Mike, and Brian Barlett and wife, Crena, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Grace Hockenberry, and sisters : Ruth Linn, Esther VanHorn and Jean VanHorn.

She was a homemaker and early in life a seamstress at Sportswear Inc., Lewistown, and employed at Bell Laundry, Lewistown.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown, Homemaker’s Club and Pensioneer’s Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader for the Hemlock Council, and was a 4-H Leader.

Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Kenneth Litwiller officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, in Juniata County.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Friday until time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.

Edwin C. Gaugler

PORT TREVORTON — Edwin Charles ‘Charlie’ Gaugler, 80, of 717 Dundore Road, Port Trevorton, died at his home on Monday, April 30, 2007.

He was born Jan. 13, 1927, to the late Franklin and Marie (Snyder) Gaugler.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Irene (Reinard) Gaugler; two brothers : Truman, of Port Trevorton, and Wayne, of Seven Valleys, and a sister, Loretta Newton, of Liverpool.

He is also survived by four daughters and one son: Mary Wilhide and husband, Dennis, of Port Trevorton, Robert Gaugler and wife, Patty, of Selinsgrove, Rosalee Massie and husband, John, of Mattawana, Linda Zeigler and husband, Bob, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Kathy Charles and husband, Tom, of Selinsgrove. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the United Church of God, and served as a deacon for over 30 years.

He was a farmer, plasterer and real estate agent. He had a lifelong love for organic farming and his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.

The funeral service will start at 11 a.m. at Garman’s Funeral Home.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 3, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Garman’s Funeral Home, 9366 Rt. 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA 17853. Memorial contributions can be made to Evangelical Community Hospital Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Jeffrey B. Peachey Sr.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Jeffrey B. Peachey Sr., 46, of 1022 West Second St., West Plains, Mo., died May 1, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 16, 1960, in Lewistown, to the late Jefferson Peachey Jr. and Violet I. (Davis) Peachey, of 21 N. Mann Ave., Yeagertown.

He is survived by children: Amanda M. Peachey, of Ala., Jeffrey B. Peachey Jr., of Illinois, Solomon D. Peachey, of Lewistown, and Bocephus Peachey, of Missouri, brothers and sisters : Patsy Edwards and husband, Ronald, of Yeagertown, Harold Peachey, of Arvel, N.Y., Gwen Lukens and husband, Robert, of Burnham, Barb Schantzenbach and husband, Alvin, of Hellertown, Richard Peachey, of York, Sharon Shaffer, of Huntingdon, and Crist Peachey and wife, Trisha, of Yeagertown; he also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William K. Peachey and a niece.

He was employed as a truck driver and a carnival worker. He was a loving Father who enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and watching NASCAR racing.

Memorial Services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Yeagertown Methodist Church, with Pastor Thomas B. Morningstar officiating.

Private interment at the convenience of the family will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to MHMR, 399 Green Ave., Suite 200, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Arrangements are entrusted to Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.

Mae E. Grissinger

THOMPSONTOWN — Mae E. Grissinger, 82, of RR2, Thompsontown, (Locust Run), died at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 20, 1925, in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Frank A. and Kathryn J. (Dysinger) Yetter. Her husband, Levi A. Grissinger Jr., died on April 6, 1969.

She is survived by three daughters , Mrs. Charlie (Pat) Walton and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Wieger, all of Mifflintown RR2, and Mrs. Dale (Darice) Kauffman Jr., Camp Hill; sisters and brothers : Violet L. Bollen, New Cumberland, Fae Ruth Snyder, Camp Hill, Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) Fraley, Harrisburg, Richard E. Yetter and wife, Betty, Mifflintown, RR2, A. William Yetter and wife, Barbara, Mifflin, and Arlene Wirt, Odenton, Md., 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons , Donald F. Yetter and Thomas R. Grissinger and three brothers .

She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1943. She was a retired Department of Environmental Resources clerk and a member of Centre Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing word searches, working with flowers, camping, traveling and family gatherings.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Centre Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Louise Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, at the convenience of the family.

There will be a viewing on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Centre Lutheran Church, RR2 Box 165, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
