A. 'Polly' Pauline Stringer
MILROY - A. "Polly" Pauline Stringer, 78, formerly of Maple St., Milroy, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2003, at Centre County Community Hospital, State College.

Born March 16, 1925, in Grove City, she was a daughter of the late George and Chloie (Sloan) Uber. Her husband, James W. Stringer, died Aug. 23, 1992.

Surviving are: three children, James W. W. Stringer, Church Hill, Reedsville, Mrs. John (Bonnie L.) Goodling, Milroy, and Rodney L. Stringer, Palmyra; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters , Lucille Hoffman and Kathleen Lingo.

Early in life she worked at Cooper-Bessemer in Grove City. She was a member of Reedsville Methodist Church.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Loretta W. Strohecker
MCVEYTOWN - Loretta W. Strohecker, 65, of U.S. Hwy 522 South, McVeytown, died at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at her home.

Born Sept. 30, 1937, in Oliver Township, she was a daughter of the late Russell J. and Mabel E. (Goss) Wilson. Her husband, Mark R. Strohecker, preceded her in death on March 15, 1997.

Surviving are: children, Mrs. Richard (Pamela) Wright, Lewistown, Jeffrey M. Strohecker, New Lancaster Valley, Rhonda L. Miller, Mechanicsburg, Mrs. Marshall (Marsha) Fisher, Lock Haven, Mark A. Strohecker, Burnham, Shane C. Strohecker, McVeytown; a sister, Mrs. Bruce (Faye) Miller, Lewistown; eight brothers , Albert of Lewistown, Charles of McVeytown, Howard, Ray, and Paul, all of Lewistown, Leon of Manheim, Roy of Carlisle, and Nelson of Lewistown; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey, Nikki, Jacob Ryan, Natasha Whitney and Isaac.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Korena Wilson; and a grandson, Zane.

She was employed as a program assistant at the Special Needs Center in Lewistown.

She attended the Ferguson Valley Brethren in Christ Church.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Kenneth Grove officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.

Jerilyn W. Strohm
BELLEVILLE - Jerilyn W. Strohm, 59, of 35 Poe St., Belleville, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born July 2, 1943, in Uniontown, she was a daughter of H. Gerald Walters, 35 Poe St., Belleville and the late Genevieve (Gibson) Walters. Her husband, Samuel G. Strohm, whom she married Aug. 29, 1965, survives at 35 Poe St., Belleville.

Also surviving are: children, Samuel G. Strohm Jr. and wife, Tarla, Carnegie, Jennifer C. Alund and husband, William, White Oak, Derek C. Strohm and Nathan E. Strohm, both of Birmingham, AL, Adam M. Strohm, and Rachel M. Strohm, both of Pittsburgh; and a brother, Gary L. Walters and wife, Catherine, North Huntington.

She was a registered nurse. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Belleville, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of Big Valley Ambulance Club, and Belleville Civic Club.

She enjoyed donating her time and talent to educating children and those who teach them.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at W. Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Belleville, with Revs. Geoffrey Huish and Joy Kauffman officiating. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Belleville.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.

John W. Stuck
LEWISTOWN - John W. Stuck, 71, of 71 Lewland Circle, Lewistown, died at 6 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at Centre Community Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1932, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Charles and Bertha (Goss) Stuck. His wife, Doroth E. (Snow) Stuck, whom he married on June 19, 1961, survives.

Also surviving are three sons , Clark Dennis Stuck, Rapid City, SD, Scott E. Stuck, Ferguson Valley, and Robert C. Fryer, Lemoyne; a brother, Thomas Stuck, Burnham; two sisters , June Campbell, McClure, and Geraldine Snyder, Back Maitland Road; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Fryer, in 1981, a brother and two sisters .

He was employed at Standard Steel, Burnham, in various positions spanning a 41-year career, retiring in 1991. During that time he also served as a police office for the Burnham-Derry Police Department.

He was Lutheran by faith, and a member of the N.R.A. and the Lewistown Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., with Pastors Mark Hill and J. Faust Hissong officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Rush G. Stuck Jr.
BELLEVILLE &endash; Rush G. Stuck Jr., 69, of 50 Rockville Road, Belleville, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1933, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Rush G. and Anna Mildred (Crownover) Stuck Sr. His wife, Evelyn A. (Yoder) Stuck whom he married May 8, 1953 of 50 Rockville Road, survives.

Also surviving are: five children, Layne G. Stuck, Lewistown, Brian G. Stuck, Mrs. Michael (Marla) Smoker, Darren G. Stuck, and Timothy A. Stuck, all of Belleville; a sister, Ms. Thelma Byler, Belleville; two brothers , Dean G. Stuck, Belleville and Kenn G. Stuck, Lewistown; a granddaughter, Lindsey and a grandson, Jesse.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister and two brothers , Neil G. Stuck and Glen P. Stuck. He also had a large extended family that he was very fond of.

He worked at New Holland as a laborer and material handler retiring in 1991 with 33 years of service, prior to that he worked as a stone mason for Steven Peachey Construction.

He was a former member of Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935, a member of Watts Memorial United Methodist Church, he attended the Rockville Mennonite Church as a child. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Harold E. Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Belleville.

Friends may call from 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Marlin Stuck
THOMPSONTOWN - Samuel Marlin Stuck, 81, of Thompsontown, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1921, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late B. Franklin and Almeda (Amig) Stuck. His wife, Alma G. (Varner) Stuck, whom he married July 11, 1940, survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Franklin Stuck and his wife, Chrys, Newport; a daughter, Anise Page and her husband, William Jr., Thompsontown; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers , Lewis D. Stuck and Edward R. Stuck and a son, M. Gene Stuck in 1965.

He retired with 41 years of service for Hempt Bros., Camp Hill. His hobbies include fishing, and working in his shop.

His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Rev. Maureen Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m., with the family present from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

William I. Stumpff
LEWISTOWN - William I. Stumpff, 92, of 2375 U.S. Hwy 522 North, Lewistown, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Sept. 17, 1910, in Alfarata, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Lottie Mae (Will) Stumpff. His wife, Kathryn E. "Kissie" (Shirey) Stumpff, whom he married Sept. 21, 1929, survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Pamela) Chapin, Tampa, FL; a granddaughter, Nicole Ely, Hoonah, Alaska; two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by his brothers , Guy A. Stumpff and Steward Stumpff, a sister Mrs. Gerald (Gertrude) Lepley, and an infant son.

He retired from Standard Steel in 1972 with 43 years of service.

He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alfarata. He was a life member of Owls Club, City Hook and Ladder Fire Co., Yeagertown Fire Co., and East Derry Fire Co.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Interment will be in Alfarata Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 573 Alfarata Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Charlotte E. Stutts
MIFFLINTOWN - Charlotte E. Stutts, 96, of RR4 Mifflintown (Manbeck Heights), died at 1:38 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 29, 1907, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd J. and Mary Ellen (Yocum) Kauffman. Her first husband, C. Ross Maffett, preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1960. Her second husband, Harry A. Stutts, preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1996.

Surviving are: four sisters , Mildred E. Kauffman and Marie B. Kauffman, both of Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflintown, Helen K. Lauver, RR3 Mifflintown and Marian K. Gross, Mifflintown; one step-granddaughter, Jean Nauss, Warner-Robins, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Kauffman; three sisters , Erma Page, Ruth Stine and Ethel Kauffman.

In earlier life, she was a seamstress in the Port Royal area, baked pies for the former Zimmie's Diner, Mifflintown, and then retired from the Commonwealth of PA Dept. of Transportation, Harrisburg.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, and was a former member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher.

Her hobbies were cooking, quilting and baking.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Rev. William N. Esborn and Pastor James W. Roth officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, RR3 Mifflintown.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lester G. Summers
PORT ROYAL - Lester G. Summers, 82, of 702 Market St., Port Royal, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Perry Village, New Bloomfield.

Born June 26, 1921, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Miles Clayton and Carrie (Howell) Summers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise "Lou" (Hawn) Summers, on April 26, 1995.

Surviving are: one daughter, Joan M. Summers of Port Royal; two sons , Harry L. Summers of Aurora, IL and John H. Summers of Port Royal; two sisters , Lorene Feltman of Petersburg and Mrs. Robert (Miriam) Klippert of Huntingdon; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Donchatz.

He graduated from Petersburg High School, Petersburg. He was a retired block operator for Conrail, with 41 years of service. He was also the former owner of Bashore's Greenhouse, Port Royal. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Railway Battalion in France and Germany.

He was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, Union Lodge 324 F&AM and the American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal.

Memorials may be sent to: American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Kirk Douglas 'Mountain Man' Swartz
MIFFLINTOWN - Kirk Douglas 'Mountain Man' Swartz, 31, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the home of Ray Leonard, RR5 Mifflintown. His death was unexpected.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, RR2 Millerstown.

A viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Lodema M. Swartz
PORT ROYAL - Lodema M. Swartz, 41, of RR1 Box 1408 Port Royal, died at 7:16 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in the emergency room at Lewistown Hospital.

Born July 31, 1961, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Alberta D. (Rhodes) Mackneer of RR1 Port Royal and the late Lewis Mackneer. Her husband, Robert J. Swartz Sr., whom she married Aug. 6, 1979, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Clair (Mandy) Tabb, RR1 Thompsontown, and Robert J. Swartz Jr., Kimbra D. Swartz and Jamal D. Simpson, all at home; brother and sister, Daniel Trent, East Peoria, IL and Mrs. Earl (Darlene) Carver, Warfordsburg; and four grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and baby-sitter.

She was 1979 graduate of Juniata High School and attended the Cornerstone Community Church.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone Community Church (next to Walker Elementary School), with Pastor Albert Gray officiating. Interment will be St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
