Lois Patricia 'Pat' Shinskie
YEAGERTOWN - Lois Patricia "Pat" Shinskie, 78, of 23 S. Mann Ave., Yeagertown, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 5, 1924, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Robert C. and Marion Caroline (Dalby) Davis. Her husband, John P. Shinskie, whom she married Feb. 10, 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: four children, John P. Shinskie, Jr., and wife Sheila, Shermansdale, Mrs. Greg (Judy) DeVecchis, Lewistown, Mrs. Emerson (Kathy) Evelhoch, Carlisle, and Robert H. Shinskie, Yeagertown; a sister, Donna Davis, Avalon Manor Nursing Home, MD; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Smith.
She was a graduate of Yeagertown High School.
She was a homemaker. She was a life member of Holy Communion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Yeagertown, and Lutheran Church Women. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking for her family.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Clifford R. Miller officiating. Interment will be in Yeagertown Lutheran Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing, however, family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Shoff
LEWISTOWN - Mary Ellen Shoff, 80, of 6 E. Fleming Avenue, Lewistown, died at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at her residence.
Born April 2, 1923, in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jay N. and Gertrude G. (Gibson) Lewis.
Surviving are: two daughters , Mrs. Abram (Sharon) Henry III, and Mrs. John (Kay) Miller, both of McVeytown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Wade Miller and a half-sister.
She was a 1941 graduate of Lewistown High School. She also graduated from Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1944.
She was a nurse at Dr. Goldman's Office. She did private and general duty nursing, she also worked at Lewistown Hospital.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She assisted with the Bloodmobile. She was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, and the Music Study Club of Lewistown.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Ed L. Moore, Jr. officiating. Private interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing, however, family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church.

Claribel Shore
LEWISTOWN - Claribel Shore, 91, of Beverly Healthcare William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Kish Apartments, 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 21, 1911, in West Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Wesley J. and Effie (Gearhart) Husted. Her husband, George C. Shore, died Aug. 10, 1985.
Surviving are: a son, Dr. Edward C. Shore, South Hills, Lewistown; and three grandchildren, Gregory, Alison, and Casey.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters .
She was a long time American Viscose Corp. employee, she was a Textile Worker's Union Representative for various women's departments at the company.
During World War II she was involved with the Red Cross Ambulance Corps, Lewistown. She was at one time a volunteer Nurses Aid at F.W. Black Community Hospital, Lewistown.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Karen McCachren officiating. Private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
There will be no public viewing.

Janice M. Shover
LEWISTOWN - Janice M. Shover, 78, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Brian and Phoebe (Weiser) Newman.
Surviving are: five children, Sandra K. Heider and Mrs. Clarence (Ruth) Wagner, both of Granville, Kenneth Stewart and wife Charlene, Middletown, Mrs. Kenneth (Janice) Gutshall and Mrs. Michael (Dorothy) Porpotage, both of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of American Folk Musicians Assoc.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Belleville Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville, with Rev. Clifford R. Miller, Jr. officiating. There will be no public viewing.
Hoenstine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca M. Singer
MIFFLIN - Rebecca M. Singer, 92, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflin, and formerly of Mifflintown, died at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born April 24, 1911, in Beale Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Foster and Martha Jane (Walters) Kepner. Her husband, Carl W. Singer, preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1985.
Surviving are: two sons , Clinton C. 'Bud' Singer and wife Anna, Granville, and Edward E. Singer and wife Nora Ella, Mifflintown; a sister, Helen Fleisher, Mexico; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons , C. Jack Singer, Bradie K. Singer, and Gerald Singer; a sister, Jessie A. Shirk; and two brothers , John Kepner and Bradie Kepner.
She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown.
In earlier life, she was employed by the IGA Foodliner, Mifflintown and later the Juniata County School District, she retired from Singers Restaurant, Mifflintown.
She enjoyed her family, cooking, and numerous functions of her church.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

F. Emmagene Sitch
BELLEVILLE - F. Emmagene Sitch, 3770 West Main St., Belleville, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday Feb. 1, 2003, at her home.
Born in Frankstown Township, Blair County, she was a daughter of the late Clayton S. and Phoebe J. (Hesley) Metz. Her husband, Paul Sitch, whom she married March 18, 1949, survives.
Also surviving are: two sons , Paul C. Sitch, Colonial Heights, VA, and Kenneth G. Sitch, Belleville; a sister, Mrs. Mark (Betty) Leamer, Huntingdon; and five grandchildren, Jackie, Richard, Phillip, Daniel and Joshua Sitch.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet J. Sitch; and two brothers , John C. and Donald E. Metz.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Belleville.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Belleville with Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time the service Tuesday at the church.

Paul Sitch
BELLEVILLE - Paul Sitch, 74, of 3770 W. Main St., Belleville, died at 2 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born June 21, 1928 in Carbon Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late John and Katie (Worhalic) Sitch. His wife, F. Emmagene (Metz) Sitch, whom he married March 18, 1949, preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2003.
Surviving are two sons , Paul C. Sitch, Colonial Heights, VA and Kenneth G. Sitch, Belleville; a sister, Katie Sitch of Wood; and five grandchildren, Jackie Sitch, Richard Sitch, Phillip Sitch, Daniel Sitch and Joshua Sitch.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet J. Sitch; three brothers , Wasco Sitch, George Sitch and John Sitch Jr.; and three sisters , Mary Zanylo, Helen Sitch and Ann Blau.
He was retired from New Holland.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Belleville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Belleville, with Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Joseph H. Sitkin
LEWISTOWN - Joseph H. "Jack" Sitkin, 66, passed away Friday, May 30, 2003.
Born Sept. 24, 1936, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Lewis and Marianna Sitkin.
He graduated from Lewistown High School and attended Penn State University.
While living in Lewistown, he was Vice-president of Sitkin Smelting and Refining. He served on the local School Board and was a member of various metal trade organizations.
In 1976 he moved to Dothan, AL where he was founder and President of American Brass Inc. In Dothan he was actively involved in community theatre and at one time served as President of SEACT. He was best known for his role as "Tevye" in Fiddler on the Roof and as "Norman Thayer" in On Golden Pond.
He also served as President of the Dothan Chapter of the American Heart Association and other local boards including the Salvation Army. He was a great Patron of the arts in Dothan.
In 1999 he moved to Bluewater Bay in Florida.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, Father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Patti; his son, Scott Sitkin and wife Kelly and their daughters , Rachel and Elizabeth; his son Doug Sitkin of Denver, CO; daughter, Julie Nickson and son-in-law, Joel and their children, Tyler, Clay and Delia; his beloved cat, Sophie; his sister, Sue Daily of State College; as well as aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, and special friends Salve, Along, and Camey Tan of CO.
Per his wishes he will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, Niceville.

Thomas W. Skipper
LEWISTOWN - Thomas W. Skipper, 67, of 540 Fairview Ave., Lewistown, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Centre Community Hospital, State College.
Born May 19, 1935, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Russell and Bernice (Seachrist) Skipper.
Surviving are a son and three daughters , Thomas "Rusty" Skipper, Dalton, GA, Bonnie Sharp, Langley, SC, Tracy Sadler, Aiken, SC, and Renee Jessup, Eustis, FL; two sisters , Mrs. Wade (Shirley) Cleck, Mifflin, and Mrs. Robert (Norma) Stewart, Lewistown; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his caregiver, Shirley L. Skipper, with whom he resided.
He was employed as the produce department manager at A&P Grocery Store, Lewistown, and later as a department manager at Empire Kosher, Mifflintown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Lodge in South Carolina.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Juniata Memorial Park Chapel, Lewistown, with Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating.
Family will receive friends 9:45-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
Edgar H. Slagle
Edgar H. Slagle, 80, of Mifflintown RR2 died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Feb. 25, 1923 in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Silas and Blanche (Fogleman) Slagle. His wife, Jennie E. (Fritz) Slagle, died on Feb. 24, 1981.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Larry R. (Charlotte) Leach, Thompsontown RR 1; one son, Charles E. Slagle, Mifflintown RR 1; one brother, Elwood Slagle, Liverpool RD; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters .
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
He retired as an inspector with the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of the Tri State Chapter of the 34th Infantry Division Association, the Disabled American Veterans, Mifflintown American Legion Post 298 and Crawford-Brubaker Post 5863 VFW. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling and had been to all 50 states.
military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council at a graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, at the Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, RR2 Mifflintown.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at Cornerstone Community Church, Mifflintown RR2 with Albert Gray officiating. There will be no viewing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
