Charles B. 'Dick' Port
MT. UNION - Charles B. "Dick" Port, 64, of 24 E. Milford St., Mt. Union, died on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at J.C. Blair Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1938, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Bernard J. Port and Cathleen (Copenhaver) Frankhouser, who survives. His wife, the former Gail M. Suders, survives.
Also surviving are three children, Melinda E. Damiano, Bellwood, Michele K. Vogus, Mt. Union, and Charles B. Port II, Mt. Union; a grandson, Charles B. Port III; two sisters , Katha J. Morris, Charleston, WV, and Mary C. Miller, Johnstown; a half-sister, Bernice Port, Connecticut; a step-brother, Edward Port, Harrisburg; and a step-mother , Bea Port, Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his step- Father , R. Eugene Frankhouser.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with Pastors Stephen Motter and William Wollett officiating. Interment will follow in Haven Rest Memorial Park, RR1 Shirleysburg.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Wm. 'Elmer' Portzline
MCALISTERVILLE - Wm. "Elmer" Portzline, 86, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at Locust Grove Nursing Home, Mifflin, where he resided since May 23, 2002.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at George P. Garman Funeral Home, 606 N. Front St., Liverpool. Interment will be in Liverpool Union Cemetery.
A viewing will be from noon Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Madelyn I. 'Ming' Potter
LEWISTOWN - Madelyn I. "Ming" Potter, 85, 74 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003.
Born Aug. 1, 1917, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late James McCardle and Mary Frances Birch. Her husband, Donald E. Potter, whom she married in 1940, survives.
Also surviving are: three children, Dr. Donald E. Potter and wife, Paola, Harrisburg, Frances and husband, Glenn Ring, Houston, TX, and James Potter, Lewistown; a brother, Kenneth McCardle and wife, Betty, Minnesota; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters .
She was a registrar of Birth and Death, Teacher's Aide for Mifflin County, Lewistown Hospital Admittance Department, and the Republican Headquarters.
Her funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Third and Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Rev. Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service time Saturday at the church.

Kenneth J. Powell
LEWISTOWN - Kenneth J. Powell, 85, of 154 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Bon-Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona.
Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Richard and Edna (Jackson) Powell. His first wife, Arlene (Gilbert) Powell, preceded him in death. His second wife, Mary E. (Miller) Powell, whom he married Oct. 28, 1983, survives.
Also surviving are: two sons , Kent J. Powell, Lancaster, and Daniel Powell, Harrisburg; step-children, Mrs. William (Nancy) Sowich, Pittsburgh, Mrs. David (Vickie) Kauffman, Lewistown, Thomas A. Newman, Lewistown, Brian D. Newman, Melbourne, FL, and Barry L. Newman, Long Beach, MS; a sister, Velma Force, MD; half brothers and sisters , Charlotte Cummings and Lois Dumond, both of McVeytown, Sylvia Wolf, Mechanicsburg, Joan Rogers, Shirmestown, Thelma Dumn, Arch Rock, Daniel Powell, Deluth, MN, and David Powell; 1 grandson, 11 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Powell, two step- daughters , a step-grandson, a brother, a half-brother and four sisters .
Early in life he worked for the American Viscose Corp. and at the age of 21 he joined the Fame Fire Co. He then became the Fame Fire Co. bartender to ensure his fire fighting availability.
In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and Squad Leader in the 2nd infantry. He participated in the Normandy invasion landing on Omaha Beach June 7, 1944. He suffered a nearly fatal injury during the campaign and was discharged following his recovery. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart and Victory Medal.
He then returned to the Fame Fire Co. for three years and then drove tractor trailer for Noerr's Trucking. He then worked in the press room at the Lewistown Sentinel and became the press supervisor for 15 years until 1972. He also worked for Fisher Electronics and last for Triangle Pacific for 15 years, before retiring at age 72.
He is most remembered for his dedication to fire fighting and his service as Lewistown Borough Fire Chief from 1962-1992.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He served on Borough Council from 1950-61. He was very active in the Republican Party, a life member of the VFW, disabled American Veterans, Henderson (United), Fame, Brooklyn, and City Hook and Ladder Fire Companies, Lewistown Moose Lodge and an honorary member of East Derry Fire House.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with Father Ronald Lynch officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 7011.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary E. Powell
LEWISTOWN - Mary E. Powell, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of Goss Terrace, Lewistown, died at 3:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Neicewanger) Klinger. Her first husband, Harry W. Everly died in 1941. Her second husband, Charles E. Powell died Feb. 13, 1990.
Surviving are: seven children, Mrs. John (Kay) Geedy, Sr., McClure, Mrs. Cornelius J. (Linda) Keim, Camp Hill, Harry W. Everly, Jr., Burnham, Charles E. Powell, Jr., Reedsville, Mrs. John F.E. (Brenda) Wileman, Jr., Lewistown, Mark E. Powell, Wallaceton, and Scott D. Powell, Sr., Lewistown; a brother, Harvey DeArment, Golden, CO; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by: three brothers , William DeArment, Homer May and Marlin Seville; two sisters , Alma and Ora DeArment; a granddaughter, Angel Wileman and a grandson, Joseph Stoner.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Nazarene, the Senior Citizens Center, the Pensioneer's Club and the Golden Age Club.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James D. Presto
LAS VEGAS, NV - James D. Presto, 82, of 2627 S. Lamb Blvd. #46, Las Vegas, NV, 89121 formerly of Milroy died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 8, 1921, in Altomonte, Italy, he was the son of the late Domenico T. and Angeline (Ponti) Presto. His wife, Alice (Thompson) Presto, who he married Sept. 29, 1956, in Lewistown, survives.
He is also survived by: a daughter, Sandy Clegg of Las Vegas, NV; four sisters , Eva and husband George Kurtz of Milroy, Rose Sweitzer Crozier of Centre Hall, Frances Bubb and Dora Presto, both of Milroy; four grandchildren J.R., Jamie, Wendy and William; and six great-grand children of Salida, CO.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Walter Clegg; two brothers -in-law, James Bubb and Ira Crozier; and a nephew, George Kurtz Jr.
He belonged to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown.
He served in the U.S. Army 1942-1946.
He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Company with 30 1/2 years of service.
There will be no viewing. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Affordable Cremation Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mary M. Price
HONEY GROVE - Mary M. Price, 70, RR1 Honey Grove, died at 11:29 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1932, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Sara (Diven) Price.
She is the last of her immediate family, being survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a self-employed farmer and was a member of the East Waterford Ambulance Club.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Pastor Dennis T. Thompson, jr., officiating. Interment will be in East Waterford Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m.
Homer D. Rager
AKRON, OHIO - Homer D. Rager, 84, passed away Jan. 26, 2003, at Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Naginey, and had lived in the Akron area since 1951. Homer retired from Kohn Beverage in 1978.
He was a member of IOOF, the HGL-20 Club, and the American Legion Post 407 in Doylestown.
He served in the U.S. Army with 69th Infantry Division during World War II.
He is survived by: two sons , Kenneth E. (Karen) Rager, Randolph, Ohio and Frederick A. (Paula) Rager, Norton, Ohio; a step-daughter-in-law, Julie Rankin; grandchildren, Patrick, Todd, Pam, Jill, and John; a sister, Dora Christman, Irwin, Ohio; and two brothers , Russell and Fred Rager, both of Milroy.
He was preceded in death by spouses, Dora M. Rager and Marie F. Rager; a step-son, Ronald Rankin; two brothers , Charles and Chet Rager; and a sister, Silva Reynolds.
Beulah E. Ramsey
LEWISTOWN - Beulah E. Ramsey, 91, of 196 S. Main St., Apt. 514, Lewistown, formerly of Milroy, died at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1912, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Christian John and Grace M. (Smith) Havice. Her husband, Walter B. Ramsey, died Feb. 9, 1958.
Surviving are: three siblings, Leroy E. Havice, Norfolk, VA, Helen Miller, York, and Richard Havice, Lewistown.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters , Herbert Havice, Chester Havice, Myrtle Cunningham, and Olive Decker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy.
Her memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy, with Pastor Rosalie N. Smith officiating. Private interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Siglerville.
There will be no public viewing.

Joanne Campbell Ramsey
LEWISTOWN - Joanne C. Ramsey, 70, of Silver Springs Twp., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at home.
Born Feb. 22, 1932, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Robert Samuel and Thelma Atkins Campbell. Her husband, Jack D. Ramsey, preceded her in death.
Surviving are: two sons , Robert P.C. Ramsey and Kirk A. Ramsey, both at home; a grandson, Justin P. Ramsey, Dillsburg; a nephew, William Paul "Pete" Ramsey Jr., Upper Allen Twp.; and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by a son, Scott "Scooter" Winfield Ramsey.
She recently retired from Winding Hill Veterinary Clinic, Mechanicsburg and was an avid sports fan.
She was a 1950 graduate of Lewistown High School.
There was a visitation Friday Jan. 31 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Burial was Saturday Feb. 1.

Neil H. Ramsey
NEW OXFORD - Neil H. Ramsey, 66, of 4300 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at home.
Born Feb. 2, 1937, in Siglerville, he was a son of the late Lee C. and G. Irene (Hackett) Ramsey. His wife, Nancy D. (Eby) Ramsey, survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters , Joan R. Ramsey, Abbottstown, and Kimberly A. Ramsey Fields, New Oxford; a son, Jonathan N. Ramsey, Pleasant Gap; two grandchildren; two brothers , Gerald L. Ramsey, Ocala, FL, and Robert N. Ramsey, Mifflintown; a sister, Phyllis R. Kinzer, McAllister; and nieces and a nephew.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, New Oxford, Hanover Elks, New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, Penn State Baseball Boosters. He retired in 2001 from Harley Davidson Co., York with 30 years of service. He coached baseball in New Oxford for many years.
He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1957-61.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from First Lutheran Church, 200 Lincoln Way East, New Oxford with his pastor Rev. Paul A. Haack officiating. Interment will be private.
A viewing will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford. There will be no viewing Thursday at the church.

Rhoda J. Ramsey
BURNHAM - Rhoda J. Ramsey, 77, of 416 First Ave., Burnham, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 8, 1926, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late John and Cora (Colabine) DeArment.
Surviving are: two daughters , Mrs. Thomas (Bonnie) Pechart, Dover, and Mrs. Jack (Linda) Morrison, Granville; six grandchildren, Jeanette Brought, Melissa Wakefield, Craig Brought, Matt DeArment, Mike DeArment, and Heather Rodriguez; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers , James, Kenneth, Earl, George, and Paul DeArment; and six sisters , Rose DeArment, Grace Gentzel, Anna Lutz, Betty Crossland, Jeanetta DeArment, and Dora DeArment.
In early life she worked at American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, and later at Lewistown Speciality Yarns, as a production employee, with 47 years of service, retiring Dec. 1988.
She was a member of Freedom Ave. United Methodist Church, Burnham.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, First Ave., Burnham, with Rev. Donald Peters officiating. Interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery, Vira.
