Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Leroy E. Kline
MCCLURE - Leroy E. Kline, 85, of McClure, passed away at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Zendt Nursing Home, Richfield, where he had been a resident for the past 20 years.

Born Sept. 4, 1917, in McClure, he was a son of the late Harry A. and Hannah A. (Shive) Kline. After his mother 's death, during his infancy, his Father married Hannah's sister, A. Elizabeth Shive, who raised him.

Surviving are two sisters , Evelyn Clare, Reading, and Maxine Hummel, Camp Hill; a brother, David Kline, York; and nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure.

He has worked for Jack Hess Construction, McClure, for many years. Earlier in life, he worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad, and for Twin Cedar Dairy and area farmers.

He enjoyed fishing.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Beth Ann Stone officiating. Interment will be in McClure Union Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to TLC Ministry Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, PA 17841.

Will J. Kline
LEWISTOWN - Will J. Kline, 75, of Upper Black Eddy, died Friday April, 25, 2003, in the Gardenview Hospital, W. Rockhill Township, Bucks County.

He was the husband of Rose M. (Walker) Kline. They were married for 27 years.

Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Homer and Ethel Deamer Kline.

Surviving are: a daughter, Lisa Hugo and husband Robert of Sumter, SC; a son, John Kline and wife Judy of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Pauline Kline of Allentown; a brother, David Kline and wife Phyllis of Lewistown; a step-son, Steven L. McGonigal of Upper Black Eddy; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II.

He worked as a truck driver for various companies, retiring in 1988. He last worked for the Schworman Cement Co., in Nazareth, for 15 years. He was a member of the Sellersville Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a Lutheran by Faith.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3104 Main St., Sumneytown. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the service time at the church.

Interment will be in Frieden's Union Cemetery, Sumneytown. Arrangements are through the Monaghan Funeral Home, Red Hill.

Joseph N. Kling Sr.
LEWISTOWN - Joseph N. Kling, Sr., 82, of 2 Woods Lane, Lewistown, died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late George E. and Ida P. (Earnest) Kling, and step- Father , Arthur H. Kling, Sr. His wife, Lois Shoenfelt Kling, whom he married Feb. 23, 1946, survives at 2 Woods Lane, Lewistown.

Surviving are: three children, Mary Alice Baker and husband Steven, Portland, OR, Joseph N. Kling Jr. and wife Carol, York, and Elizabeth J. Cotton and husband, Dean, Elizabethtown; two sisters and two brothers , Mildred Pauline Fortney, Mechanicsburg, Edith Mae Yocum, Reedsville, George E. Kling, Lewistown, Jacob Kling, Shippensburg; step-sister, Josephine Seltzer, Lewistown; 5 grandsons, 2 granddaughter, and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy L. Kling on March 26, 2003; a sister, Hazel Kling in 1919; two step-sisters , Mary Kling and Myrtle Kling; and a step-brother, Arthur (Jim) Kling, Jr.

He was a carpenter for 37 years, working for John Miller and Paul Fagley Construction.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater from April 1943-Jan. 1946. He was a first class shipfitter - 1st Class on the USS Curtiss; he was awarded the Letter of Commendation with the Commendation Ribbon from the Navy.

He was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Bruce Hinderliter officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Graveside military services by VFW Post 7011.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Judy D. (McMullen) Mallon Kling
MT. UNION - Judy D. (McMullen) Mallon Kling, 51, of 10 Pinewood Acres, Mt. Union, went to be with the Lord at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at home after a long struggle with cancer.

Born April 1, 1952, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Merrill and Vivian (Raffensberger) McMullen. Her husband, George W. Kling, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters , Mrs. David (Jennifer) (Grizzle) Rhodes, Lewistown and Chelsey Ann Mallon, Canonsburg; grandchildren, Becca Vivian Rhodes and Garret John Rhodes; a sister, Mrs. Ron (Deborah) Didyk, Cassville; a brother, William McMullen and wife Christa, North Carolina; and paternal grandmother, Mildred McMullen, Mapleton.

She was currently manager of the McVeytown Minit Mart.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with Dr. Theodore E. Kiffer officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nancy L. Kling
HARRISBURG - Nancy L. Kling, 56, of 352 Mayfield St., Harrisburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003.

Born Nov. 14, 1946, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Joseph and Lois (Shoenfelt) Kling Sr, Lewistown.

Surviving are: a sister Mary Alice Baker, Portland, OR; a brother, Joseph Kling Jr., York, and a sister, Elizabeth J. Cotton, Elizabethtown.

She was an executive secretary in Law Bureau for Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, for 39 years.

She was a member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg. She was also a member of American Business Women Association, Harris Town Chapter, and the Piece Makers Quilt Guild.

She was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1964.

Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, with Rev. Bruce Hinderliter officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials may be sent to: Hospice of Central PA, 98 S. Enola Dr., P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025-0266.

Sarah E. Kling
LEWISTOWN - Sarah E. Kling, 95, of 2210 Sea Air Village, Rehoboth Beach, DL, formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes, DL.

Born June 21, 1908, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Carolus. Her husband, Norman Kling, died in 1980.

Surviving are: two daughters , Mrs. Harry (Kathryn) Royer, Vira, and Mrs. John (Sandy) Hoar, with whom she made her home with the last five years in Rehoboth Beach, DL; five half brothers and sisters , Charlotte Haubrick, Harold Carolus, Hazel Dorman, Earl Carolus, and Larry Carolus, all of Lewistown; two granddaughters, Kathy Basom and Mrs. Jeffrey (Tammy) Foltz, both of Lewistown and three great-grandchildren, Brandon and Tymberli Basom and Calin "Jake" Foltz.

She was preceded in death by: two sons , Norman Kling, Jr. and Leroy Kling; and eight half brothers and sisters .

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge and a life member of Brooklyn Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Merle Chandis Klinger
LEWISTOWN - Merle Chandis Klinger, 89, a resident of Penn Lutheran Village , Selinsgrove, formerly of RD1 Beaver Springs, entered into eternal rest at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Penn Lutheran Village.

Born May 8, 1913, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William E. and Sara J. (VanBoskirk) Klinger. His first wife, Elsie (Harlacher) Klinger, died Nov. 15, 1957. His second wife, Mary P. (Sitler) Klinger, died July 24, 2000.

Surviving are: three children, Chandis L. Klinger and wife Violet M., Middleburg, Nina B. Klinger, Wilmington, DE, and Wanda M. and Oliver W. "Fred" Cundy, II, Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Dorothy Yocum, Middletown; two brothers , Byron L. Klinger, Beaver Springs, and William E. Klinger Jr., Lewistown; six grandchildren, Hans C. and Anne Leigh Klinger, Glen Allen, VA, Kristy M. Klinger, White river, AZ, Oliver W. "Fred" III and Kathleen A. Cundy, Dale City, VA, and Molly A. Cundy, Woodbridge, VA; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth M. and Addisyn C. Klinger, Madison D. Cundy, and Oliver W. "Wil" Cundy IV.

He was a self-employed farmer, early in life he was employed at American Viscose Corp.

He was a past member of Lake Park United Methodist Church, Lewistown.

He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid gardener.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Calvin Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

William E. Klinger Jr.
LEWISTOWN - William E. Klinger Jr., 82, of 100 Blueberry Hill, Lewistown, died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Oct. 23, 1920, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William E. and Sara Jane Louisa (Vanboskirk) Klinger. His wife, Sara Kathryn (Peck) Klinger, whom he married on June 21, 1943, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Brenda K. Summers, Gap and Mrs. Charles (Jeanne E.) Guss, Sinking Spring; sister and brother, Dorothy Yocum, Frey Village, Middletown and Baryon Klinger, Beaver Springs; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters .

A 1938 graduate of Lewistown High School, he was a mail carrier in Lewistown for many years, retiring in 1976. He then concentrated on his organic produce gardening.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the attack. After serving in the Pacific Theater, he returned to the states to train the troops and then served in the European Theater.

He was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church and taught the adult Sunday School class. He evangelized at many area churches and was active with Child Evangelism Fellowship and Youth For Christ.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Park United Methodist Church, Fourth Street and Crystal Springs Avenue, Lewistown, with the Rev. Mark S. Brower officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family and there will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Park United Methodist Church, 78 Sugar Tree Lane, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in change of the arrangements.

Dolores R. Knarr
LEWISTOWN - Dolores R. Knarr, 75, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 28 Pennebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 27, 1928, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Ruth (Hamilton) Berkheimer. Her husband, Jack E. Knarr, died June 21, 1966.

Surviving are: two children, Steven E. Knarr and wife Erma, 14 Chule Trail, McClure, and Mrs. Richard F. (Kathy R.) York, 7315 US Hwy 522N, McClure; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by a brother, Albert Berkheimer and a sister Helen P. Wagner.

She was a homemaker and a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to: Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Luther A. Knepp
MCCLURE - Luther A. 'Bud' Knepp, 67, of 552 Decatur Road, McClure, passed away suddenly at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Russell and Naomi (Bowersox) Knepp. On June 3, 1955, he married the former Joy Mary Hood, who survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Douglas L. and his wife, Kathryn Knepp, Decatur Rd.; a daughter, Brenda J. Razzi, McClure; six grandchildren, Matthew, Denise, Michelle, and Dennis Knepp, and Cody and Miranda Razzi; three sisters , Zelapha Sheriff and June Wright, both of Valley View Retirement Center, Belleville, and Joann Lindsey, Alfarata; and two brothers , Calvin and Gary Knepp, both of rural McClure.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Knepp; a sister, Louise Keiser; and six brothers and one sister, all in infancy.

He attended Krick School and McClure High School.

He farmed all his life in Decatur Township., and also operated a milk route, picking up milk from area farms from 1958-75. From 1975-89 he drove school bus.

He was a Lutheran by faith.

The great joy of his life was his grandchildren, and he took pleasure in enjoying the countryside.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, where the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday.

Interment will be in Samuel's Church Cemetery, RR3 McClure.

Joanna Barbara Knouse
MT. PLEASANT MILLS - Joanna Barbara Knouse, 80, of RR2 Mt. Pleasant Mills, died at 9:32 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at her residence.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Arbogast's Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with Rev. Celo V. Leitzel officiating.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills and from 10 a.m. until the service time at the church.
