Theodore R. Kauffman
LEWISTOWN - Theodore R. Kauffman, 97, of State Route 103 North, Lewistown (Pine Glen) and a guest at Ohesson Manor, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born June 7, 1905, in Bratton Township, he was a son of the late Harry G. and Rebecca (Miller) Kauffman. His wife, Gladys V. (Espigh) Kauffman, whom he married June 30, 1930, preceded him in death on May 29, 1995.
Surviving are seven daughters , Mrs. Max (Esther) Gaisior, McVeytown, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Bitner, Lancaster, Mrs. Ronald (Anna) Casner, McVeytown, Mrs. Steven (Elizabeth) Koller, Pine Glen, Mrs. Ronald (Nancy) Yoder, McVeytown, Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Kuhns, Milroy, and Mrs. Chris (Christine) Baker, Reedsville; a foster daughter, Ilga Moran, Tamarac, FL; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Russell E. Kauffman; a daughter, Sarah R. Sherman; a grandson, Douglas R. Morrison; and four siblings, Margaret Stayrook, Herman Kauffman, David Kauffman and Ida Kauffman.
He was a retired self-employed farmer, also having worked as a carpenter for Pennsylvania Glass and Sand.
He was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren and the Men's Bible Sunday School Class of the church.
He loved the outdoors.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren with Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown.

James C. Keister
LEWISBURG - James C. Keister, 70, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was married to the former Donna M. Brought.
Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Hummel Funeral Home, Middleburg. Funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Beavertown God's Missionary Cemetery.
Dorothy E. Kell
WALNUT - Dorothy E. Kell, 87, formerly of Walnut, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born July 31, 1915 in Centre, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Bertha (Kenawell) Trego. Her husband, Samuel H. Kell, died July 21, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Barbara) Margritz of Mifflintown HC 63, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jay W. Kell, two great-granddaughters, one brother and two sisters .
She retired from Rae-Sal Corporation, Port Royal and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Walnut Grange #776 and the Beale Township Fire Company Auxiliary.
Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook, with Rev. Martin Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no viewing.

William L. Keller
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - William L. Keller, 84, of Citrus Heights, CA, died Aug. 9, 2003, a native of Mifflin County.
Husband of Jean Keller, Father of David (Connie) Keller, William G. (Virginia) Keller, Jeffrey (Sharon) Keller, Marjorie (Chris) Lones and Bobbie Keller. Grandfather of Anna, Melinda, Jessica, and Brandon. Six step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of World War II.
Friends are invited to attend graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA.

EAST WATERFORD - Ellsworth R. "Pete" Kelley, 80, of RR1 East Waterford, died Wednesday evening, April 9, 2003, at the residence of his sister, Jean Rowles.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove. Interment will be in the Byron Run Cemetery, Black Log.

Alma Murfin Stahl Kellner
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Alma Murfin Stahl Kellner, 97, formerly of 10116 Sharpsburg Pike, Hagerstown, MD, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport, MD.
Born July 11, 1905, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Rebecca I. (Bortel) Murfin. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred H. Stahl, and her second husband, Abe N. Kellner.
Surviving are: two daughters , Mildred S. Eckard, Hagerstown, MD and Sara Ann Bentley, Redding, CA; a step-daughter, Pauline Sinnett, Annandale, VA; a sister, Sara Jane Kenepp, Lewistown; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandsons, five step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Kenepp; two brothers , Charles Murfin and Howard Murfin; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
She was retired from Kanns Department Store, Washington , DC and was previously employed with Leiter brothers .
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Assoc.
Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with Rev. John W. Ailstock officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

Florence M. Kephart
BURNHAM - Florence M. Kephart, 88, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of 112 Sunset Drive, Burnham, died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Ohesson Manor.
Born Dec. 21, 1914, in Canonsburg, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Hannah (Richards) Powell. Her husband, William K. Kephart, died Nov. 1, 1988.
Surviving are: two children, David L. Brown, Mifflintown and Mrs. Leroy (Joan) Garrison, Wheeling, WV; a sister, Alice Pettigrew, Bethel Park; a brother, William Powell, Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dick Brown in 1996 and four brothers and three sisters .
She was a production employee at Arrow Shirt Factory for 27 years, retiring in 1977.
She was in WAC during World War II as a clerk.
She was a member of Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church.
Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery.

Mary Catherine Kepler
LEWISTOWN - Mary Catherine Kepler, 95, of 900 Lockport Road, Lewistown, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1907, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Carstetter. Her husband, Samuel Jacob Kepler, preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1993.
Surviving are two nephews, Jack Ellsworth Kepler and wife, Beverly, Philip Paul Kepler and wife, Ann, all of Cincinnati, OH; a niece, Mrs. Donald (Carol Ann) Nelson, Crofton, MD; and a companion, Connie Halfpenny.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Pearl Kane.
Early in life she was employed in the Finishing Room of American Viscose Corporation. She and her husband also owned a dairy farm in Oliver Township.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Jerry Wise officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Helen McBurney Hower Kerchner
MIFFLIN - Helen McBurney Hower Kerchner, 88, of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR 1, formerly of Licking Street, Mifflin, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at Lewistown Hospital.
Born January 17, 1915 in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar E. and Helen Louise (Sieber) Hower. Her husband, Jerome E. Kerchner, whom she married on April 15, 1939, died on January 1, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Jerome E. Kerchner, and his wife, Carolyn, of Stevensville, MD; one daughter, Carol L. Kerchner Nace, and her husband, Bob, of Centre Hall; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Karl Hower Kerchner and two brothers , Donald Hower and Oscar E. Hower, Jr.
As a teenager, she drove to Juniata County farms to get feed orders for Eastern States. When she was a young woman, she worked as a waitress at the Hotel Swarthmore in Ocean City, N.J. She was a wife, mother and homemaker for most of her life. She was also a caregiver for many of her family members throughout her life.
She graduated from Mifflintown High School in 1932. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, and a former grange member, 4-H member and 4-H leader.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Rev. William Esborn and Chaplain Cathy Janke officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior to the services.

Boyd L. Kerstetter
LEWISTOWN - Boyd L. Kerstetter, 82, of 26 Scenic Drive, Lewistown, previously of Berkeley Springs, W.V., died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Herndon, he was a son of the late H. Lee and Carrie Pfeifer Kerstetter. His wife of 63 years, Dolores (Rheam) Kerstetter, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1940, survives.
Also surviving are: two children, Mariann Sutton, of Burnham, and Jill Tombs, of Wellsboro; a sister, Edith Bair, of Clearfield; six grandchildren, Todd Sutton, Terri Sutton, Jennifer Tombs, John Sutton, Brian Tombs and Janelle Tombs; and one great-grandchild, Allison Sutton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers , Rev. Earl Kerstetter and Guy Kerstetter; and a daughter, Joan Kerstetter.
He was manager at the Lewistown Pepsi Company for 25 years and an accountant for U.S. Silica, Berkely Springs, WV for 17 years.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church where he also sang in the choir. He was a life member of the Highland Park Hose Company and Fame Fire Company. He served on the Chief Logan School Board for 17 years, two of which he served as President. He was a member of the Highland Men's Club and the American Legion Post 90.
He was 1939 graduate of Derry Township High School. He was an avid woodworker.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Avenue, Lewistown with Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be at Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
The family will provide all flowers.

Mason M. 'Dutch' Kerstetter
MCALISTERVILLE - Mason M. "Dutch" Kerstetter, 79, of RR 1 McAlisterville, died at 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Nipple Convalescent Home, Liverpool.
Born April 17, 1924 in Halifax, Dauphin County, he was the son of the late Mason and Sarah (Roller) Kerstetter. His wife, Velma E. (Strawser) Walters Kerstetter whom he married Jan. 1, 1981, survives.
He is also survived by four sons , Donald Walters and wife Nancy, East Waterford; Robert Walters and wife Donna, McAlisterville; Richard Walters and wife Carol, Mifflintown; William Walters and wife Carol, McAlisterville; one brother, Albert "Pony" Kerstetter, Halifax; one sister, Emma Shoop, Halifax; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna P. "Pat" Frymoyer, on Nov. 15, 1995; three sisters , Stella Ditty, Laura Musser, Alberta Kerstetter, and a brother, Henry Kerstetter.
He was employed by Conrail retiring with 38 and a half years of service as a machinist at the Enola Yard.
He was a member of East Salem United Methodist Church, the Thompsontown Lions Club, the Millerstown Moose Lodge # 925, the Walker Grange # 786, and IAM Local # 186 A.
A viewing will be held 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the family present 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at East Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Halifax.
