David M. Hook
TEXAS - David Matthew Hook, 38, died unexpectedly on July 23, 2003, in Irving, Texas , due to accidental drowning.
Born Nov. 7, 1964, in Lewistown, he was the youngest son of the late Maxwell L. and June S. Hook.
He graduated from Chief Logan High School and Temple University Tyler School of Art. He was a graphic designer and was employed by Siemens Dematic ABO in Irving.
David will be remembered for his sweet smile, innocence, generosity and kindness, touching the hearts of all who knew him. He was a gentle, loving soul with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Fiercely patriotic, he was proud of his job at Siemens, which makes airport baggage handling and security equipment, feeling this was his contribution to his nation.
His desire to help others extends beyond his death, with the donation of his body to the Willed Body Program at the University of Texas Southwest Medical School.
He leaves to cherish his memory: fiance, Verna Gupta, Irving, Texas ; sister, Janet Hook Mansir, Plano, Texas ; brother, F. Randall Hook, Hopewell, PA; nieces and nephew, Rachel Mansir of Frederick, MD, Elizabeth and Paul Mansir of Plano, Texas , and their families; stepmother, Freda Hook, and uncle and aunt, James and Barbara Aurand, all of Lewistown;
He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of David's life was held Sunday, July 27, in Irving.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to a no-kill animal shelter or the charity of one's choice.
Burial will be at a later date.
Ruth K. Hornberger
BELLEVILLE - Ruth K. Hornberger, 84, of 202 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, died at 1:10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 30, 1918, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Banks F. and Helen B. (Bonson) Sausman. Her husband, Charles A. Hornberger, died Jan. 22, 1994.
Surviving are: three children, Mrs. Walter (Constance) Kerstetter, Sunbury, Mrs. Cyril (Beverly) Dunmire, Camp Hill, and Darlington C. Hornberger, Belleville; two brothers , John F. Sausman, 50 Bunker Hill Rd., Belleville, and Robert B. Sausman, 20 Sausman Lane, Belleville; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Betty Jane) Gibboney, Fourth St., Newport; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church, Reedsville and was a Sunday School teacher.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Mattie Z. Hostetler
MILROY - Mattie Z. Hostetler, 54, of 326 Sheepfold Lane, Milroy, died at 7:40 a.m. Monday Jan. 13, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 14, 1948, in Pennsylvania , she was a daughter of Veronica (Zook) Speicher, Reedsville and the late Michael Speicher. Her husband, Eli S. Hostetler, survives.
Also surviving are: four children, Mrs. Isaac (Franey) Yoder, Andover, Ohio, Samuel, Lydia, and Martha Hostetler, all at home; two brothers , five sisters and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Old Order Amish.
Her funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at her residence. Interment will be in Back Mountain Road Cemetery, Milroy.

Yost E. Hostetler, 50, of Peaceful Dr., Milroy, died at 11:02 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at 9 a.m. at the Hostetler Residence.

Helen M. Houser
LEWISTOWN - Helen M. Willis Houser, 95, of Villa Teresa Nursing Home, Lower Paxton Township and formerly of 30 Sunset Road, Lewistown, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Villa Teresa.
Born in Austria-Hungary, on March 15, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ann Hudock Willis. Her husband, Raymond J. Houser, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons , James P. Houser of Lewistown and Rev. Samuel E. Houser, pastor of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Steelton; two daughters , Kathryn Anne and her husband James Henry of Churchville, and Helen Marie and her husband James Elmer of Brookhaven; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two daughters -in-law, Dolores C. Houser, widow of Raymond J. Houser Jr., of Lewistown and F. Paulette Houser McConahy, widow of Francis W. Houser Sr. and wife of Ed McConahy, of Fombell.
She was preceded in death by two brothers , three sisters , two sons and a grandson.
She was a retired kindergarten teacher at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parochial School, Lewistown, with 21 years of service.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Samuel E. Houser, her son, as Principal Celebrant.
A viewing will be held 6-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. An additional viewing will be held 3-4 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, East Third and North Dorcas Streets, Lewistown, followed by burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.

Edward Martin Howe II
CLAIRTON &emdash; Edward Martin Howe II, 60, of 756 N. Sixth St., Clairton, died at 3:59 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Southwestern Nursing Center, Pittsburgh.
Born Nov. 1, 1942, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William Albert and Sara Catharine (Fleming) Howe. His wife, Sharon K. Miner, who he married Dec. 23, 1982, in Huntingdon, survives.
Also surviving are five children, Edward Howe III, Edinboro, Sarah C. Ratliff, Washington , Amy E. Howe, Edinboro, Calvin B. Goodman Jr. and Max M. Goodman, both of Pittsburgh; a brother, William L. "Bill" Howe and his wife, Nancy, Huntingdon; two sisters , Mrs. Franklin (Sara) Zabriskie, Orkney, Scotland, and Kathleen H. Sheaffer, Lewistown; and two grandchildren.
He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1960, Bloomsburg State College, majoring in biology, U.S. Naval School of Music in 1963, Juniata College, majoring in biology, Thompson Institute in 1967 with a degree in accounting and computer programming, Edinboro State College with a B.S. in Music Education in 1971 and a master's in education in 1973, St. Boniventure University for graduate studies in Education Administration.
He was employed with the Department of Corrections at SCI-Pittsburgh since 1983, first as a music teacher then, in 1988, as Activities Manager 1 and, in 1989, as Activities Manager 2.
He previously worked for Centre County Canning Corporation, 1957-1962; Jones Motor Freight, Harrisburg, as a manifest clerk, 1967-1968; and Corry Area School District and Corry Country Club as a kitchen manager while working on his master's degree, 1972-1973.
His career in education began as the Junior High General Music and Chorus teacher at Lewistown Junior High School in Spring 1968. He was also employed as Elementary Band and Instrumental teacher at Red Mill High School, Rensselear, NY, 1971-1972; Jr. and Sr. High School Band and Chorus Director at Oswayo Valley School District, Shinglehouse, 1973-1980; Jr. and Sr. High School Band Director at Juniata Valley School District, Alexandria, until 1983.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown, Music Educators National Conference, Pennsylvania Music Educators and Huntingdon County Band Directors Association.
He served with the U.S. Navy in Alaska from 1962 to 1966.
Family and friends were received 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service (10 a.m.) today at John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Pittsburgh.
Chaplain John Bell will officiate.
Graveside services will be held today at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria. Family and friends should gather at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 412 Main St., Alexandria, for a procession to the cemetery.
Irye M. Hoyt
BOONSBORO, MD - Irye M. Hoyt, 86, formerly of 15 Shady Ln., McVeytown, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Fahrney Keedy Nursing Home,
Boonsboro, MD.
Born May 18, 1917, in Hickory Kingdom, he was the son of the late Blake and Mildred (Kantz) Hoyt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn S. (Hollopeter) Hoyt.
Surviving are: one son, Martin Hoyt and wife, Myersville, MD; one brother, John Hoyt,; two sisters , Glydine Hook, Falls Creek and Mary Clinton, Hickory Kingdom; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Irye was the co-owner of the H.O. Andrews Feed and Flour mill of McVeytown, Mattawana and Mapleton Depot.
He was active in the Lewistown Hospice 1985-1995 and was a member of the Grace Brethren Church, Milroy.
A graveside service will be held at the Hoyt Cemetery in Hickory Kingdom at 11 a.m. Tuesday for family and friends. Boyce Hollopeter will officiate.
Arrangements will be handled by the Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Dubois.

MIDDLEBURG - Della M. Hubler, 78, of Middleburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 ,2003, at her residence.
Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Decatur Twp., Mifflin County.

Carl F. Humann
LEWISTOWN - Carl F. Humann, 81, a beloved husband, Father and grandfather, of 306 South Grand Street, Lewistown, passed on to Heaven at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown.
Born March 24, 1922, in Lincoln, Nebraska,a son of the late Martin and Helen (Steiger) Humann. His wife, Sharon (Weaver) Humann, whom he married Dec. 27, 1965, survives.
Also surviving are: seven children; a brother; twelve grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of VFW Post 3909 in Los Molinos, CA.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Robert S. Hunt, Sr.
REEDSVILLE - Robert S. Hunt, Sr., 67, of 4400 Old U.S. Hwy 322, Reedsville, died at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 27, 1936, in Granville, he was a son of the late Russell W. and Erma E. (Confer) Hunt. His wife, Kay Marie (Hurlburt) Hunt, died April 17, 2001.
Surviving are: a son, Dale Alan Hunt, Ferguson Valley; five siblings, William H. Hunt, McVeytown, Esther Walters, Lewistown, Betty Pandel, Burnham, Mary Carolus, Lewistown, and Fern Steele, Jr., Granville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Robert S. Hunt, Jr., on Jan. 1, 2002; two brothers , Roy Hunt and Russell Hunt; and a sister, Katherine Miller.
He retired from Masland Industries, Lewistown in 2000. He also worked at Penn State University Boiler Plant.
He was a retired Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
He attended Barrville Mennonite Church.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Siglerville.

Larry D. "Coon" Hutchinson, Sr., 58, of RR 1 Honey Grove, died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born September 23, 1944 in Reeds Gap, he was the son of the late Edgar and Mildred (Pannebaker) Hutchinson.
He is survived by three sons , their wives, and five grandchildren: Larry D. "Tarz" Hutchinson, Jr., wife, Tammy and children, Dakota and Austin of Honey Grove RR 1; Gary L. Hutchinson, wife, Deb and children, Leah, Lane, and Megan of Port Royal; and Terry A. Hutchinson of Honey Grove; siblings, Mabel Stimely, Lewistown, Mary Hutchinson, Honey Grove, Paul Hutchinson, Mifflin HC 67,Glen Hutchinson, Port Royal RR 2, Robert Hutchinson and Donald Hutchinson, both of Honey Grove, Max Hutchinson, Waterloo, New York,and Jeanne Jones, Mifflintown RR 4.
He was preceded in death by two brothers , James Hutchinson and John Hutchinson.
He worked in construction.
He enjoyed attending sprint car races, especially supporting Fred Rahmer, listening to George Jones, hunting, fishing and spotlighting around Begger Row and spending time with his grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. There will be a visitation, with the casket being closed, on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
