Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Beth A. Gilberthorp
DOVER - Beth A. (Lepley) Gilberthorp, 44, of Dover, died Tuesday morning June 17, 2003, at her home.

Born July 19, 1958, in York, a daughter of William H. Lepley of York and the late Helen M. (Hood) Lepley. She was married to Randall L. Gilberthorp, who survives. They celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary March 21.

She was a homemaker. She also worked in packing and shipping for Cycle Products in Emigsville and for USA Direct.

Surviving are: a daughter, Jennifer L. Blackburn, Dover; two grandchildren, Keira and Cody Blackburn; three sisters , Susan K. Abel and Karen R. Spangler, both of York and Julia M. Weyant of Valdosta, GA; two brothers , James W. Lepley of Dover and George R. Lepley of York; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitors may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, where the funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. with Rev. Dennis H. Hall, pastor of Friendship Community Church, Dover, officiating.

Burial following cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Lester H. Gill
MCVEYTOWN - Lester H. Gill, 80, of Judge Road, McVeytown, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his home.

Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Port Royal, he was a son of the late Lester D. and Bertha May (George) Gill. His wife, Willia G. (Mason) Gill, preceded him in death.

Surviving are: children, Lester A. Gill, Marcus Hook, Gary L. Gill, Newark, DE, and Carol Allen, Utah; siblings, James Gill, Aston, Vina Bowersox, McVeytown, Mary Walters, Selinsgrove, and Helen Groner, Selinsgrove; two granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Ted Gill, Phyllis Mantegna, Zella Mengle, and Goldie Marie Bickhart.

He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 972nd Signal Service Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

He was a retired construction painter.

His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Rev. Brad Williams officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Karina D. Gipe
LEWISTOWN - Karina D. Gipe, 38, of1756 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, died at 6:09 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 16, 1965, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Kenneth B. Bratton, Hooversville and the late Patricia A. (Cavanaugh) Rome. She is survived by her step- Father , Richard C. Rome, Lewistown and step-mother , Donna (Kauffman) Bratton, Hooversville. Her husband, Brian K. Gipe, whom she married Oct. 8, 1999, survives.

Also surviving are: four daughters , Ashley A. Bratton, Eleni W. Shearer, Kortney A. Shearer, and Maggi M. Shearer, all at home; three step-sons , Joshua B. Gipe, Joseph K. Gipe, and Justin P. Gipe, all at home; two sisters , Mrs. William (Kimbra) Napikoski, Lewistown, and Mrs. Joseph (Tara) Kimmel, Johnstown; and two brothers , Cory B. Bratton, Turkey, and Jeremy B. Bratton, Hooversville.

She was preceded in death by a step-sister, Robin R. Richard.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and was also a home and garden design consultant.

She was a 1983 graduate of Williamsville East High School, Buffalo, NY, and attended Marist College and was continuing her studies at home.

She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and most recently attended Calvary Bible Church.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. John S. Walters and Rev. Howard D. Houtz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Laura A. Gipe
ORRSTOWN - Laura A. Gipe, 60, of 10208 Newburg Rd., died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at home.

Born Jan. 16, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lee C. and Betty L. Porter.

A 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1963 graduate of Lewistown School of Nursing, she retired from Shippensburg Health Care Center as the Director of Nursing.

Laura was a dedicated registered nurse for over 39 years.

Surviving are: her husband, Allan E. Gipe, from Lewistown, whom she married on Dec. 22, 1962; two daughters ; two sons ; and seven grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., 112 W. King St., Shippensburg.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Cumberland Valley Breast Cancer Alliance, 797 Fifth Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Ruth R. Good
DALLASTOWN - Ruth R. Good, 80, of Dallastown, died Thursday morning, July 24, 2003, at York County Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 29, 1922, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late J. Allen and Julia (Kerr) Rhodes). She was the wife of Robert G. Good, to who she married 61 years ago on Feb. 23, 1942.

Surviving are a son, Robert L. Good of Dallastown; two daughters , Shirley Smith of Troy, MI and Karen Mellinger of York; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally Gearhart of Belleville; two brothers , Harold Rhodes and Leon Rhodes, both of McVeytown.

She was a 1940 graduate of McVeytown Oliver High School and also of the University of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown, with Rev. Carl Rife and Rev. Ronald Bowersox officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York County Nursing Home Auxiliary, 118 Pleasant Acres Road, York, PA 17402 or to the Alzheimers Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Charles B. Goodling
LIVERPOOL - Charles B. Goodling, 75, of RR2 Liverpool, entered into eternal rest Monday evening, Feb. 17, 2003, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills with Rev. Carvel K. May officiating. Interment will follow in Paradise Church Cemetery, Port Trevorton.

Evelyn G.Goodling
RICHFIELD - Evelyn G. Goodling, 90, of HCR 63, Richfield, died at 7:18 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Geisinger Medical Center.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brown's United Methodist Church, Rt. 35, Cocolamus. Burial will be in Neimond's Cemetery, RR1, Richfield. A viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m.Wednesday at the church.

Garman Funeral Home, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Mills is in charge of arrangements .

Clair A. Goss
MCCLURE - Clair A. Goss, 82, of RR2 McClure, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Jan. 21, 2003 at Lewistown Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days.

Born Sept. 13, 1920, in West Beaver Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late Clarence S. and Lura P. (Peters) Goss. In 1945, he married Bertha E. Thomas, who survives.

Also surviving are: four daughters and sons -in-laws, Lura Mae Grenoble, RR1 Beaver Springs, Ethel Jane and Wayne Shrawder, RR2 McClure, Clareon and Matthew Barnett, RR2 McClure and Julie Diane Wagaman and fiance, Larry Pattinson, Manchester; three brothers , Marvin S. Sr., RR1 Beaver Springs, Fern A., Haymarket, VA and Gene G., RR2 McClure; nine grandchildren, Seth, Jason, Christopher, Heidy, Justin, Kyle, Amanda, Matthew and Brittany; nine great-grandchildren, Tanya, Adrienne, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Cassie, Alexandria, Andrew, Jonathan and Alec.

He was preceded in death by two brothers , Eston J.G. in 1922 and Park A. in 2001.

He was a member of the St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He attended Bannerville Church of the Brethren, both of McClure RR2.

In 1982 he retired from Clair's Service Station, Beaver Springs, which he owned and operated for 30 years. Prior to that he worked for the former Rittenhouse Spring and Alignment for 9 years.

He served in the Army as a military Policeman during World War II in Oak Ridge, TN. He was a life-member of American Legion Post 942, McClure and served on the Mid-West School Board for 18 years and also on SUN Vo-Tech Board for 10 years. He loved hunting, gardening, woodworking, visiting neighbors and especially his family.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church with Pastors David Pennebaker and Liane Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, RR2 McClure where graveside military services will be provided by American Legion Post 942, McClure.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the Beavertown Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

Mary E. Goss
LEWISTOWN - Mary E. Goss, 71, a resident of Beverly Healthcare/William Penn, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born Feb. 23, 1932, in Derry Twp., Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Helen M. (Reigle) Goss, and step-mother , the late Mary E. (Wagner) Beaver Goss.

Surviving are: a sister, Mrs. James (Margaret L.) Hurlburt, 312 Old Mitchell Lane, Milroy; two brothers , Kenneth A. Sr. and wife Ophelia Goss, El Paso, TX, and William H. Sr. and wife Jean Goss, 24 Bonanza Way, Milroy; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two infant brothers .

She was a 1952 graduate of Burnham Derry High School.

She had been employed at Skills Inc.

She was a member of the former St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burnham.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, with Rev. David Pennebaker officiating. Interment will be in Belleville Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen M. Grabbe
LEWISTOWN - Helen M. Grabbe, 92, formerly of Lewistown, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Valley View Haven.

Born Sept. 10, 1910, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late William and Jessie (Beaver) Rush. Her husband, Paul J. Grabbe, died in 1974.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Bettylou) Bargo, Dover, DE; a sister, Pauline Stone, Belleville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a daughter, Janice Beaver; a granddaughter, Wendy Gaye Bargo; two sisters and three brothers .

She was co-owner of Grabbe's Hobby Shop, Lewistown. Early in life she worked at FMC.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels, Mifflin County Historical Society, Women's Circle of the church, and also the oldest member of the church, 83 years.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, with Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church.

Mary R. 'Mamie' Graham
PORT ROYAL - Mary R. "Mamie" Graham, 78, of RR2, Box 454, Port Royal, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home.

Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late William Edmund and Mary Core (Eagler) Cleck. She is survived by her husband, James C. Graham, whom she married Jan. 1, 1950.

Also surviving are: two daughters , Mrs. H. Craig (Susan) Harris and Mrs. Steven (Barbara) Wilson, both of RR1 Port Royal; two sisters , Mrs. Wilbur (Kathryn) Zendt, RR2 Mifflintown and Mrs. Joseph (Janet) Kovalcik, New Cumberland; grandchildren, Lindsay Harris, Matthew Harris and David Wilson.

She was preceded in death by three brothers , Jay, Charles and Samuel Cleck, and one sister, Anna Fleisher.

Earlier in her life she was employed by the former Rae-Sel Corp., Port Royal and had worked for Dr. Eugene Sausser, M.D., Mifflintown. Later she worked part time for the Harris Family Treat, Walnut and the Spruce Hill Lunch, Spruce Hill.

She was a 1942 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.

She was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 .am. Thursday at the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia, with the Rev. Edward M. Trask officiating. Interment will be in Academia Cemetery.

There will be no evening viewing, but family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
