Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Donald E. Coldren
CARLISLE - Lt. Col. (Ret.) Donald E. Coldren, 73, of Carlisle, died Monday, May 26, 2003.

Born Nov. 28, 1929, in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late S. Raymond and Sylvania (Lauver) Coldren. His wife of 49 years, Virginia Schmidt Coldren, survives.

Also surviving are: two sons , Bruce E. Coldren, West Bloomfield, MI, and Gary R. Coldren, Broad Run, VA; three daughters , Jo Ann E. Reichard, Carlisle, Donna L. Wainwright, Reading, and Linda M. Coldren, Altoona; a brother, S. Raymond Coldren, Jr., Mifflintown; a sister, Miriam W. Ramsey, Mifflintown; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1947 and Lebanon College in 1951.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Marsh Dr., Carlisle.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.

Mary A. Colyer
LEWISTOWN - Mary A. Colyer, 54, of 45 Hibridge Circle, Lewistown, died at 10 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Pastor Bernard Carpenter officiating.

Richard Nelson 'Dick' Colyer
THOMPSONTOWN - Richard Nelson "Dick" Colyer, 78, formerly of Thompsontown and a resident of Perry Village, New Bloomfield since Feb. 25, 2003, died at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003, at the Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.

Born Sept. 28, 1924, in Thompsontown, he was a son of the late William Nelson and Emma Esther (Stutts) Colyer. His wife, Anna Mary (Walters) Colyer whom he married July 1, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: four daughters , Carol Ann Colyer and Mrs. Richard (Janice) Sage, both of Harrisburg, Mrs. William (Diane) Foley, Lewisberry, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Chubb, East Salem; a sister, Lorraine Colyer, Zendt Nursing Home, Richfield; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a grandson, Dean Yoder in infancy.

He was a 1942 graduate of Thompsontown High School.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran having served in the European Theater.

He was a member of the Thompsontown United Methodist Church where he had served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board, Treasurer of the Building Fund for the Trustees, and was a trustee for 38 years. He was also a charter member and past president of the Thompsontown Lions Club and a former Boy Scout leader of the Thompsontown Troop #169.

His interests were upholstering and refinishing furniture, his family and his church.

In earlier life he had been employed by Hall's Dairy, Millerstown, Ed Smith Furniture, Thompsontown, and retired in 1989 as a Maintenance Engineer for the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Thompsontown United Methodist Church, Thompsontown, with Rev. Maureen Wagner and Rev. Donald Walters officiating. Interment will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be sent to: American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.

The McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, is handling the arrangements.

Scott Lynn Colyer
MCALISTERVILLE - Scott Lynn Colyer, 40, of RR2 McAlisterville, entered into eternal rest at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Galax, VA.

He was born Aug. 25, 1962, at Lewistown, the son of Norman L. and Sadie L. (Potter) Colyer of RR1 Richfield.

Also surviving are: two children, Seth Levi Colyer, at home, and Shelby Elaine Colyer, Allison Park, Pittsburgh; a brother, Gary L. Colyer, Richfield; a sister, Karen R. Dressler and her fiancee, Tim Linn, Milton; a brother-in-law, Shawn A. Dressler, RR1 Mt. Pleasant Mills; two nephews, Chris S. Dressler and his fiancee, Christin Lauver, RR1 Mt. Pleasant Mills and Brandon L. Dressler, also of RR1 Mt. Pleasant Mills; a niece, Stephanie R. Dressler, also of Mt. Pleasant Mills.

He was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Cloyd and Maggie Colyer and maternal grandparents, Edward and Alva Potter.

He attended Midd-West School District and had worked as a laborer for Triangle Pacific Cabinet Corp., now Armstrong Industries, Thompsontown, for nearly 8 years until his passing.

He was associated with the Mountain View Community Church, Richfield.

He loved his two children and his family and enjoyed camping, Penn State football games and NASCAR racing.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Church of the Open Door, Evandale, with Rev. Pusey A. Losch and Rev. George A. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, RR1 McAlisterville.

Visitors will be received by the family from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in loving memory of Scott to a trust fund established for his children, Seth and Shelby; to M&T Bank, c/o Norman L. Colyer, Main St., Richfield, PA 17086.

Funeral arrangements were made by the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Mills.

Donald G. Confer
MILLHEIM - Donald G. Confer, 67, of East Main Street, Millheim, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Centre Community Hospital.

Born June 21, 1936, in Granville Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of Clyde E. and Lydia M. (Hook) Confer. His wife, Alma (Auman) Confer, who he married April 24, 1975, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters , Tina Pritts of Port Matilda and Penny Chamberlin of Tyrone; three sons , Ronald of Moshannon, Tim of Port Matilda and John of Julian; three sisters , Erma Hamilton and Carolyn "Kathy" Love, both of Warriors Mark, and Edie Johnson of Port Matilda; two brothers , Ken Confer and Howard "Dutch" Confer, both of Port Matilda; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces, Sierra and Ashley, and great nephew, Derek, who Don and Alma were helping to raise. Don prided in attending and participating in their school and sports events.

He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a daughter.

He was retired from Gensmore Trucking, Pleasant Gap, where he was a truck-driver. After retiring, he helped Donn Fetterolf haul stone and John Luse in his garage.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tractor pulls, as well as boating, Bluegrass music and spending time at his brother-in-law's camp.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St., Millheim. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Millheim.

A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, PO Box 420, Millheim, PA 16854 or to the American Cancer Society, 123 S. Sparks St., State College, PA 16801.

Pasquale D. Conti
MILROY - Pasquale D. Conti, 72, of 291 South Main Street, Milroy, formerly of Bel-Air, Maryland, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at his residence.

Born July 31, 1930, in Milroy, a son of the late Daniel D. and Lillie (Catina) Conti.

Surviving are: a sister, Mary R. Conti, Milroy; a brother, John A. Conti, Reedsville; a nephew, John P. Conti; a niece, Barbara Conti; and three great-nieces.

He was a professional landscaper.

He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army.

He was a 1948 graduate of Milroy High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewistown. He was a member of the American Legion.

His mass service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Rev. John Bateman officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Sacred Heart Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Sun Home Health Hospice, 2 Hudson Avenue, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert B. Corbin, Sr.
MCVEYTOWN - Robert B. Corbin, Sr., 75, of 269 Wakefield Rd., McVeytown, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at his residence.

Born Nov. 17, 1927, in Bratton Township, he was a son of the late Cloyd G. and Mary R. (Kauffman) Corbin. His wife, Florence (Richardson) Corbin, whom he married May 27, 1960, survives.

Also surviving are: three children, Robert B. Corbin, at home, Cyndi Harrison, Mifflintown, and Michael Reeder, Hagerstown, MD; seven siblings, Sarah Finkenbiner, Esther B. Thompson, Anna M. Conner, and Harold Corbin, all of Lewistown, Myra Hambright, Newton Hamilton, Samuel Corbin, Mt. Union, and Leona McCaffrey, Lewistown; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters .

He was a Supervisor for Hinkels and McCoy.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a Brethren by Faith and a member of the Johnsons Spring Hunting Camp.

There will be a private memorial service held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Darvin Donahey officiating.

William N. Corkins
LEWISTOWN - William N. Corkins, 83, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of 504 Lindbergh Way, Lewistown, died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born July 7, 1919, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Harry G. and Elizabeth (Bubb) Corkins. His wife, Grace J. (Johnston) Corkins, died Aug. 17, 1993.

Surviving are: a son, Mark N. Corkins, Lewistown; a brother, H. Glenn Corkins, Jr., 2 Fairway Pl., Lewistown; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E Lodge #663, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #143, Lewistown. From 1940-42 he owned a nightclub in North Hollywood, CA.

He served in World War II as an Air Force Cadet, serving in the 485 Bomb Squad Unit in Italy. While in service, he and his wife owned Corkins Quick Lunch formerly on Market Street. In 1945, his Father , Bill and two brothers owned the Studebaker Agency. He and his brother Harry, owned Riverside Wholesale from 1945-59; Western Auto Store from 1959-67 and Decor Lanes from 1957-90.

He was an avid golfer and loved golfing at the Lewistown Country Club.

His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Lewistown. military graveside services will be by VFW 7011.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Viola E. Cornell
LEWISTOWN - Viola E. Cornell, 90, of Lewistown, formerly of Everett, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare&emdash;William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown.

Born March 18, 1913, in West Providence Township, Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Flossie Mae (Mellott) Hockenberry Sr. Her husband, John William Cornell, who she married April 16, 1938, preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1983.

Surviving are a son, James W. Cornell and his wife, Kay (Baker), of Lewistown; a brother, Lee Hockenberry of Everett; and three sisters , Jessie Shaffer, Hazel Coleman and Maxine Snyder, all of Everett.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Layton, and five brothers , Harry Jr., Lawrence, Robert, Eugene and Samuel Hockenberry.

She was a member of Everett United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir, and also attended Lake Park Methodist Church, Lewistown.

She was employed as a seamstress at Lion Manufacturing, Everett, for over 20 years, retiring in 1978, and was a homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Dalla Valle Funeral Chapel, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Richard Williams officiating. Interment will be in Everett Cemetery.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Paul David Crowder
CLIFTON PARK, NY - Paul David Crowder, 63, of 31 Lexington Dr., Clifton Park, NY, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at his residence.

He was the son of the late Mildred (Corfman) and Marion Crowder. He was born in Elyria, Ohio, where he lived and was employed as an insurance agent in his Father 's company, until becoming a lay pastor in the United Methodist church. He served Methodist church in Great Valley and Waterport, NY in a lay capacity.

He was an accomplished composer, pianist, clarinetist, choir master and organist. He earned a BA in Music Education from Brockport College, Brockport, NY where he also taught music and later served as Minister of Music for Trinity United Methodist Church, Albany, NY. He was also employed as a federal compliance consultant for Head Start Agencies in New York and established his own consulting firm.

He earned his Masters of Divinity from Drew University, Morristown, NJ, and was a member of the Order of Saint Luke, and served charges at Calvary in Albany, Vergennes and Addison, Vermont. Most recently he served as Minister of Music and Worship at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Glenville, NY, where he presented his last offering of music to the congregation on Sunday, May 18.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Anne (Sieber) Crowder; a daughter, Kathryn Wright and son-in-law, Timothy Wright; and granddaughters, Megan and Maya Wright of Gansevoort.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Allyson M. Crowder.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Glenville.

His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Jonesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 547 Saratoga Road, Glenville, NY 12302 with the intention of creating a Paul D. Crowder Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing a career in music or theatre arts.
