Steven H. Cochenour, 45, of West Newton, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Jan. 3, 1955, a loving son of Lorraine Cochenour Nemetz and stepfather, Joe Nemetz, of Madison and his Father , the late Robert Cochenour. Adoring husband of Roma Jo (Paterline) Cochenour; a loving dedicated Father to Stephanie, Justin, and Jennie Cochenour, all of West Newton; and a caring brother to Suzanne Higgins and her husband, Roger, of Uniontown. Steve also is survived by numerous brothers - and sisters -in-law; and nieces and nephews. Steve was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, West Newton, a 1972 graduate of West Newton High School, and a 1996 graduate of Waynesburg College. He was employed by Severn Trent Laboratories as a project engineer. Friends will be received at the RICHARD F. DODSON FUNERAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Regoli as celebrant. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Holy Family R.C. Katherine L. Mikita Keller, 81, of New Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at the William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. She was born Aug. 13, 1918, in New Mine, Pa., a daughter of the late Michael and Fannie Herniak Mikita. She was a housewife. Surviving are her husband, Robert E. Keller of New Alexandria; a daughter, Linda Maxine Corbett and husband, Richard, of Harrison City; a grandson, Robert Corbett of Pittsburgh; a brother and four sisters , Helen Cyktich and Joseph Mikita, both of Rural Valley, Evelyn Loney and Rose McClimans, both of New Castle, and Julia Kuhar of Yatesboro, Pa. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the P. Sarah Knight Klippick, 89, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Oct. 26, 1910, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late William and Annie Taylor Knight. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a beautician. She was a member of the Circleville United Methodist Church, and past matron of O.E.S., McKeesport Chapter #40. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Klippick in 1988. Marie McCall, 76, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Apollo, a daughter of the late Arthur and Nancy Thompson Gramlich. She was a member of First Christian Church, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George M. McCall Sr., in 1974. She is survived by a son, George M. McCall Jr. of Greensburg; two daughters , Bonnie Schmidt and her husband, Raymond, of Delmont and Beth Chew and her husband, Daniel, of Jeannette; six grandchildren, Andrea Schmidt, Thomas Schmidt, Derek Chew, Daniel Chew, Sara Chew and Katie Chew; two sisters , Anna Ludwig of Industry and Viola Ferguson of Canyon Lake, Texas ; a brother, Arthur Gramlich of Claridge; a special niece, Kathryn Mott, and a special nephew, William Mott, both of Greensburg. Mary A. McCulloch, 91, of Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of West Newton, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Long Meadow Nursing Home, Ravenna, Ohio. She was born Sept. 14, 1908, in Star Junction, a daughter of the late John and Ann Matty. She was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, West Newton, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. McCulloch; a son, Donald McCulloch; and a number of brothers and sisters . She is survived by three sons , William M. McCulloch of Monroeville, David F. McCulloch of Freedom, Pa., and James McCulloch of New Springfield, Ohio; a sister, Monica Stahlsmith of Mantua, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Richard B. Pollins, 68, formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000. He was employed for 23 years as a vice president by Telephone Utilities of Pennsylvania before moving out of state. He is survived by his wife, Jean P. Pollins; four daughters , Patricia Shotts, Karen Underwood, Sandra Register and Roberta Bell; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Yenawine. Memorial service will be conducted at the First United Church of Christ, Second and Maple streets, Greensburg, Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 till 11 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Stanley E. Pynos Jr., 69, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born July 18, 1930, in Latrobe, he was a son of Mary Maruscak Pynos of Latrobe and the late Stanley E. Pynos Sr. He was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe, and its Holy Name Society. He was retired from the former A&P of Latrobe and Shop 'n Save of Greensburg. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Ella R. Pauley Pynos; two daughters , Brenda Wasil and her husband, Ralph, of Norvelt and Mary Lou Stynchula and her husband, Tom, of Latrobe; two brothers , Theodore J. Pynos of Latrobe and Ronald C. Pynos and his wife, Judy, of Latrobe; four grandchildren, Ralph Wasil Jr., Rebecca Wasil, Greg Stynchula and Tim Stynchula; and a number of nieces and nephews. ROBERT W. SHAFFER
Robert W. Shaffer, 58, of Penndel, died peacefully at home Wednesday, April 12, 2000, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Latrobe, Mr. Shaffer had been a resident of Penndel for the past 36 years. He was employed with U.S. Steel's Fairless Works for 36 years, until his retirement in March. Mr. Shaffer was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Charles P. Cecil as a machinists mate 2nd class from 1958 to 1962. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, hunting and spending time with his family and friends at the cabin he built in Shade Gap, Pa. He was a very devout family man. Son of the late Blanche Hughes (nee Bates) and Robert Shaffer and stepson of the late Abraham Eli Hughes, Mr. Shaffer was the beloved husband of 35 years to Donna L. (nee Exton) Shaffer. He was the loving Father of Leigh Anne Knight and her husband, Jeff, of Langhorne, Carrie Lynn Shaffer of Penndel, Aimee Beth Masciantonio and her husband, Paul, of Robesonia, Pa., and Robert Justin Shaffer of Penndel. He will also be sadly missed by five grandchildren, Daniel, Erin, Jessica, James and Jason; a brother; two sisters ; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his dog, Dusty. Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Saturday at noon at the JAMES J. Carolyn Chappetti Spiegel, 85, of Trafford, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at her home. She was born March 10, 1915, in Trafford, a daughter of the late Pasquaili and Teresa Chappetti. She was a member of St. Regis Church, Altar Rosary Society, and the Trafford Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Bruno; and four brothers , Joe, Frank, Pete and Ralph Chappetti. She is survived by her husband, Edward Spiegel; four children, Jean (Ken) Dinger of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Edward (Vickie) Jenkins of New Alexandria, Ronald (Mary Ann) Jenkins of Trafford and Donald (Sharlyn) Spiegel of Warren, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Ronda (Scott) Jenkins Reid of Alexandria, Va., and Matthew Spiegel of Akron, Ohio. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Dorothy Jean Rush Stout. She was a graduate of the former East Huntingdon High School Class of 1952. Survived by her husband, Arlin J. Helen M. Walro, 76, of Lincoln Heights, Jeannette, died Monday, April 10, 2000, in Orlando, Fla. She was born March 15, 1924, in Indiana, Pa., a daughter of the late Stanley and Sally Rymar Wojcik. She was a member of the St. Boniface Church of Penn and the church's Christian Mothers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Walro, in 1977; and a sister, Mary Wierzbowski. Helen is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Cottrell and husband, Doyle, of Orlando, Fla.; two sons , John A. "Jack" Walro and wife, Patricia, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kevin A. EMMA ELIZABETH (PEARCE) WINLAND
Emma Elizabeth (Pearce) Winland, 84, of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, formerly of Pitcairn and Zanesfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000. She was born March 31, 1916, in Pitcairn, a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Sarah Williams Pearce. She graduated from Pitcairn High School in 1936 and prior to her marriage was employed by Westinghouse in Wilmerding. She was a member of McGinnis Presbyterian Church in Pitcairn. On June 29, 1948, she married John William Winland of Wingett Run, Ohio, who preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1993. Emma was the mother of Thomas William (wife, Tyla) Winland of McLean, Va., and Deborah Esther (husband, Floyd) Hendricks of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; grandmother of Christopher, Emily, and Erin Winland, Brent Hendricks and Robin Hendricks; sister of Alfred Pearce of Atlanta, Ga., and the late Charles, James, and William Pearce, and Esther Pearce Eaton. Also several nieces and nephews. Emma lived in Zanesfield from 1952 to 1996 and was affiliated with the Zanesfield United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Corinth Chapter 229, the American Legion Auxiliary of Zanesfield and the Worth While Club of Zanesfield.
