Paula A. Duffey Wayda, 38, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Aug. 7, 1961, in Latrobe, a daughter of Paul A. Duffey and the late Shirley A. Garris. She was a teacher's aide for Derry Christian Academy. Paula has gone home with the Lord. She was a member of the Monroeville Assembly of God and the Ladies Bible Study. Memorial donations may be made in care of the family at 921 Burns St., Latrobe, PA 15650. She is survived by her husband, Brian D. Wayda; three sons , Austin Tyler Wayda at home, and Brian A. Graham and Charles A. Graham, both of Homer City; three brothers , James L. Duffey, Michael Duffey, and Richard S. Garris, all of Blairsville; and three sisters , Mrs. Lee (Diane L.) Yukinobu Noda Bogonovich, 27, of Osaka, Japan, formerly of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, April 6, 2000, in Osaka, Japan. He was born Jan. 4, 1973, in Osaka, Japan, a son of Freddie Bogonovich of North Huntingdon. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 16, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Ascension Church of Youngwood. JAMES L. CELAPINO
James L. Celapino, 69, of West Newton, died Monday, April 10, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born in Rostraver Township, Jan. 25, 1931, the son of the late Angelo and Verda (Parker) Celapino. Mr. Celapino was retired from Montgomery Wards. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Newton and the West Newton VFW Post #7812. He is survived by two daughters , Tamber Bray of Charleston, S.C., and Paula Preidel of Mansfield, N.J.; a brother, Harry Celapino of West Newton; two sisters , Hazel Neatby of West Newton and his twin sister, Jean Kalna of West Newton; four grandchildren, Aaron Preidel, Ryan Preidel, Paul Michael Preidel, and Heather Argus; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Argus and Haley Ruddock; and a special friend, Sara Story. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanine. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. Mary H. Chicklo, 85, a resident of the St. Anne Home, Greensburg, formerly of Jeannette, died Monday, April 10, 2000. She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Duquesne, a daughter of the late Steve and Mary Bajusz Mikosky. She was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette and its senior citizens group. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Neil A. Chicklo, in 1994; and three brothers , Joseph, Paul and Steve Mikosky. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Fletcher and husband, Roy, of Manning, S.C.; two sisters , Betty Criner and husband, John, of Jeannette and Rita Constantine and husband, Edward, of Greensburg; two grandsons, Kevin Fletcher and wife, Buffie, of Houston, Texas and Neil Fletcher and wife, Sharon, of Walkersville, Md.; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Ascension Church. KENNETH CUTLIP
Kenneth Cutlip, 82, of Pleasant Unity, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Cutlips, W.Va., a son of the late A.F. and Laura (Jones) Cutlip. He was a coal miner for 43 years for the Jamison Coal Company, then for Delmont Fuel, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United, and the U.M.W.A. Local #8123. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie F. (Eannotti) Cutlip; a daughter, Betty Joan Cutlip; a grandson, Thomas N. Kernicky; a brother, Berl F. Cutlip; and two sisters , Alice Beyer and Ethel Holzer. He is survived by three children, Kenneth W. Cutlip and wife, Mildred, of Acme RD1, Mrs. John (Frances) Kernicky of Calumet and Bernard J. "Bernie" Cutlip and wife, Paula, of Pleasant Unity; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bert Cutlip of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Betty Guthrie of Lady Lake, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews. H. Armour Evans, 92, of Penn Township, died Monday, April 10, 2000, in William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. He was born Nov. 19, 1907, in South Fork, Pa., a son of the late Frank and Emma Flack Evans. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic for Valley Buick in Monroeville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith M. Evans in 1996; a son, Thomas A. Evans; and two brothers , Lawrence and Harold Evans. He is survived by two sons , Bill F. and wife, Carolyn Evans, of Irwin and Richard A. and wife, Eileen Evans, of Plum; two brothers , Robert Evans of Pitcairn and Charles Evans of South Carolina; a sister, Alverine Foster of Trafford; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Marjorie Jean Halstead, on Monday, April 10, 2000, at her residence in Wilkins Township. Miss Halstead was born Nov. 29, 1950, in Pittsburgh, to the late Jeremiah and Mary Jane Halstead. Miss Halstead was a nurse at the Shadyside Hospital. She was the loving sister of Jerry Halstead and his wife, Margaret, of Georgetown, Pa., and Sharon Rodahaver of Monroeville. Stepdaughter of Florence Halstead of Swissvale; stepsister of Michael Smith and Michelle Salvetti; aunt of Kristine Price, Julie Halstead, Jill Rodahaver, Karsten Lippert and Christopher French. GERALD J. HARTUNG
Gerald J. Hartung, 80, of Jeannette, a former resident of Venice, Fla., and Ohio, died Monday, April 10, 2000, at home. He was born April 8, 1920, in Jeannette, a son of the late Charles and Alice Metzger Hartung. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Walworth for 39 years. A member of Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, and its Holy Name Society, he was also a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Greensburg and a bowling league at Hillview Lanes. Throughout his retirement, he enjoyed flower gardening, landscape painting, fishing, bowling, golf, and traveling. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a surgical technician in France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara G. Sanderbeck Hartung, in 1986; a brother, Bernard; and a sister, Gertrude DiFrancesco. He was a kind and loving Father to his nine children, Regis of High Park, Jeannette, Donald E. and wife, Carol, of Virginia, Lawrence and wife, Judy, of Conneaut Lake, David and wife, Cathy, of Clarks Summit, Richard and wife, Donna, of Jeannette, James D. of White Haven, Rita M. Mackey of Greensburg, Mary Anne Baker and husband, John, of South Greensburg, and Barbara Rose Blair and husband, William, of Jeannette. Also surviving are a brother, Paul Hartung and wife, Mary Kay, of Jeannette; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Julia Santavicca; and several nieces and nephews. Angeline M. "Ginger" McCauley, 71, of Jeannette, died Monday, April 10, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born May 29, 1928, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John and Lucy Antonucci Yaniro. Prior to retirement, she was a bus driver for Mark Lines, and was a volunteer for income tax assistance to the elderly. She was a member of the Ascension Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. McCauley; and a brother, Patsy Yaniro. She is survived by three sons , Kenneth J. and his wife, Dorothy, of Penn, Keith A. of Jeannette and Kevin E. and his wife, Sharon, of Greensburg; a daughter, Kimberly Hobart and her husband, Daniel, of Grove City; eight grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Yaniro of Greensburg; a sister, Carmella Zaleski of Coraopolis; and a number of nieces and nephews. Joseph A. Salandra, 53, of Delmont, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in his loving home. He was born Nov. 1, 1946, in Connellsville, a son of the late Angelo J. and Theresa (Capo) Salandra. Joseph was a systems analyst for Mellon Bank and a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Church of Delmont. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol (Tagliati) Salandra; a daughter, Dana Seaman and husband, Robert, of Delmont; a son, Kevin Salandra of Export; three brothers , Angelo, Louis and Ernest Salandra, all of Connellsville; three grandchildren; two aunts, Lucy Sepesi and Toni Alphonse; and several nieces and nephews. Richard W. "Smitty" Smith, 71, of Greensburg, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Westmoreland City, a son of the late George B. and Mathilda Commons Smith. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Jeannette Glass and was a social member of the Bovard Firemen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy L. Gerber Smith, on Nov. 30, 1953; and two brothers , George D. and Robert Paul Smith. He is survived by his daughters , Dorothy M. and her husband, Larry Caldwell, of Greensburg RD1, Marlene and her husband, David J. PALMER HUFFAKER AWTREY
Palmer Huffaker Awtrey, 84, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 18, 1915, in Marietta, Ga., a son of the late Bernard and Kate Huffaker Awtrey. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a chief engineer for the former Walworth Valve Company, and had worked in Greensburg, Massachusetts, New York, California, Illinois, Alabama, Italy and Mexico. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He attended the First Baptist Church of Greensburg and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, B.P.O.E. No. 511 of Greensburg, the A.A.R.P., and had volunteered with the American Red Cross. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers , Robert King Awtrey, Bernard Slaton Awtrey, Merrill Everett Awtrey and Walker Dodson Awtrey. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ferne Hostetler Awtrey; a daughter, Anne Miller and her husband, James, of Butler; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Rebecca and Daniel Miller; and a number of nieces and nephews.
