Barbara (Papia) Nithman, 54, of Plum Borough, on Sunday, April 9, 2000. Beloved wife of William O. Nithman. mother of Janet (Nithman) Zarisky, Robert W. and Michelle Nithman. Daughter of Rose Marie and the late Agatino Papia. Grandmother of Michael J. Zarisky Jr., Cierra M. Colbert, Tremain D. Colbert and Macee Nicole Nithman. Barbara was a Cantor for the St. John the Baptist choir for over 20 years. JOSEPH A. SALANDRA
Joseph A. Salandra, 53, of Delmont, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in his loving home. He was born Nov. 1, 1946, in Connellsville, a son of the late Angelo J. and Theresa (Capo) Salandra. Joseph was a systems analyst for Mellon Bank and a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Church of Delmont. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol (Tagliati) Salandra; a daughter, Dana Seaman and husband, Robert, of Delmont; a son, Kevin Salandra of Export; three brothers , Angelo, Louis and Ernest Salandra, all of Connellsville; three grandchildren; two aunts, Lucy Sepesi and Toni Alphonse; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. RICHARD W. SMITH
Richard W. Smith, 71, of Greensburg, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Westmoreland City, a son of the late George B. and Mathilda Commons Smith. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Jeannette Glass and was a social member of the Bovard Firemen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy L. Gerber Smith, on Nov. 30, 1953; and two brothers , George D. and Robert Paul Smith. He is survived by his daughters , Dorothy M. and her husband, Larry Caldwell, of Greensburg RD1, Marlene and her husband, David J. Righino, of Greensburg, and Deborah L. and her husband, Mark Zyvith, of Bovard; nine grandchildren, Gregory, Trisha, and Shelly Caldwell, Kimberly Altman, Dawn O'Neal and Amy Righino, Mark Zyvith, Deborah Altman, and Anita Katonka; 10 great-grandchildren, Shawna, Kayla, Joshua, David, Bret, Briana, Justin, Katie, Shane, and Ryan; four brothers , James Smith of Arizona, John Smith of California, Thomas Smith of Irwin, and Harry Smith of Alabama; four sisters , Laura Smith of Alabama, Marie Ritz of Florida, Faye Bercia of Arizona, and Nancy Kerlin of Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Melva Jean Weyandt Smith of Greensburg. MILDRED D. ZEMBA
Mildred D. Zemba, 79, of New Alexandria RD2 (Salem Township), died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Salemville, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Grace Carcone Cononico. She was Roman Catholic by faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John J. "Jumbo" Zemba, in 1996; a daughter, Mary Sue Stinebiser; a sister, Theresa Scire; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Kwak. She is survived by a daughter and a son: Rose M. Kwak of Mammoth and John A. Zemba and his wife, Alice, of Black Lick; two sisters , Connie Cononico and Carmella Oplinger, both of Salemville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Pasquale "Pat" Conte, 75, of Jeannette, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 28, 1924, in South Greensburg, a son of the late Henry and Carmella Moffe Conte. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Penn Oxygen and Supply Co., Penn. Pat was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette; a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the American Legion Post 981, South Greensburg, the Roosevelt Club, Hempfield Township, and enjoyed bowling with the Mixed Seniors League. He is survived by his wife, Anna Maddalena Conte; a daughter, Anita Irwin and husband, John, of Connellsville; a son, Edward Conte of Claridge; three grandchildren, Nichole, Michael and Stacy Irwin, all of Connellsville; two brothers , Dominic Conte and wife, Ginny, of Ohio and Henry Conte Jr. and wife, Sara, of South Greensburg; a sister, Gelsamena Cicco of North Huntingdon; and numerous nieces and nephews. STELLAMAE CRAMER
Stellamae Cramer, 88, of Ligonier, died Sunday, Apri1 9, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 3, 1911, in Ligonier, a daughter of the late Harrison Morton and Nancy Jane McDowell Cramer. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Ligonier. She served as director of activities of the now Asbury Methodist Home, Mt. Lebanon, from which she retired. She had served as secretary and president of ARIHA (Associates for Recreation of the Ill, Handicapped and Aged). She was also president of the Pittsburgh Dental Assistants Society, was instrumental in initiating and teaching night school for adults in Dental Assisting at Allegheny High School, Pittsburgh. Also, she served as parish director and director of religious education at the First Methodist churches of Pittsburgh, Greensburg and Butler, and the Grove Avenue Methodist Church of Johnstown; and was also a counselor, instructor and co-dean of the Jumonville Methodist Training Center. Since retirement and her return to Ligonier, she served three years as president of GFWC-PFWC Women's Club of Ligonier and as a teacher of Circle I of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. Since residing in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, she served in several capacities, including reading to others and leading some chapel and church services. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers , Roy Frank, Garnet Harrison, Robert Killian and Glen Willard Cramer. She is survived by her sister, Mary Louise Gettemy and husband, Harold, of Jeannette; sisters -in-law, Mary Shaffer Cramer and Nora Emert Cramer of Ligonier; as well as many nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. JOSEPHINE (DAMATO) CREMONESE
Josephine (Damato) Cremonese, 85, of Greensburg, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in the Greensburg Nursing and Convalescent Center. She was born April 25, 1914, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline Rega Damato. She was a graduate of the first licensed practical nurse program at Greensburg Salem High School. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a licensed practical nurse at Westmoreland Regional Hospital and later as an office assistant for the late Dr. Oliver Litman. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral of Greensburg and the Columbia Ladies' Mutual Beneficial Association. She was also a member of several bowling leagues in Greensburg, and the St. Anne's Women's Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosaline Kuzman; and a grandson, Timothy Leonard. She is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Cremonese of Greensburg, with whom she celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 25, 1999; a son, Joseph G. Cremonese and wife, Dorothea; a daughter, Anita Leonard and her husband, Larry; and a son, David Cremonese and his wife, Maureen, all of Greensburg; a daughter, Caroline Berg and her husband, John, of Boardman, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Blasiole and her husband, Rocco, of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. HOWARD H. GUY
Howard H. Guy, 75, of Flinton, Pa., formerly of Royal Oak, Md., and Latrobe, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born April 29, 1924, in Jeannette (Lincoln Heights), a son of the late Howard and Violet (Bigelow) Guy. Prior to retirement, he was employed by West Penn Power. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy as one of the original "Frogmen," now known as Navy Seals. He worked in underwater mine demolitions and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a former member of the Christ United Church of Christ, Latrobe; a member of the VFW in Royal Oak, and was a gifted artist who, along with his second wife, owned and operated the Creeks End Art Gallery in Royal Oak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons , Rian S. and Robert E. Guy; his second wife, Irene Guy; and a sister, Norma Rabbits. He is survived by four children, Howard "Rick" Guy of Blairsville, Rebecca McGeever of Jeannette, Randy L. Guy of Hagerstown, Md., and Rod C. Guy and his wife, Marlene, of Latrobe; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Betty (Miller) Guy of Latrobe. Margaret Malis, 95, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Township, formerly of Hutchinson, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born in Mammoth, Aug. 14, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Meshanko) Bendig. Mrs. Malis was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Emma Malis of Erie; three daughters , Rose Stubbs of Belle Vernon, Evelyn Kayda of Belle Vernon, and Anna Belle Sever of Hutchinson; two daughters -in-law, Nancy Malis of Greensburg and Dorothy Malis of North Huntingdon; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Malis Sr.; and two sons , William and Max "Harpo" Malis.
