MICHAEL P. KOSHURBA

Michael P. Koshurba, 80, of Blairsville RD5, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Forbes Road, a son of the late Frank and Mary Koshurba. He was a member of SS. Simon and Jude Church, Blairsville. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 1451, Latrobe, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired construction worker. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary E. (Hulena) Koshurba of Blairsville; a daughter, Rita Mary Blose and husband, Paul, of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son, Paul M. Koshurba of Greensburg; a sister, Anna Drylie of Jeannette; a brother, George Koshurba of Forbes Road; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Mary Gergley and Elizabeth Cook; and two brothers , Alex Koshurba and Charles Koshurba. Friends will be received at the JAMES F. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 25 W. Market St., Blairsville, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wake service Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in SS. Simon and Jude Church with Father Chester J. Raimer as celebrant. Interment in SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

STELLA LEONHISER

Stella Leonhiser, 83, of Pittsburgh, on Sunday, April 9, 2000. Wife of the late Henry R. Leonhiser; beloved mother of Betty J. Weis and Henry R. Leonhiser Jr.; sister of Frank Liczbinski, Mary Harshman and Josephine Mezynski and the late John Liczbinski and Eva Schultz; also survived by nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, where a blessing service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. Entombment Jefferson Memorial Park.

MARGARET MALIS

Margaret Malis, 95, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Township, formerly of Hutchinson, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born in Mammoth, Aug. 14, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Meshanko) Bendig. Mrs. Malis was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Emma Malis of Erie; three daughters , Rose Stubbs of Belle Vernon, Evelyn Kayda of Belle Vernon, and Anna Belle Sever of Hutchinson; two daughters -in-law, Nancy Malis of Greensburg and Dorothy Malis of North Huntingdon; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Malis Sr.; and two sons , William and Max "Harpo" Malis. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until 9:30 a.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of St. Anne, Rostraver Township, with the Rev. Ronald L. Simboli presiding. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

MARION SCARDINA SR.

Marion Scardina Sr., 81, of Scottdale, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born July 23, 1918, in Scottdale, a son of the late James and Mary Eannareno Scardina. Marion was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, and of the Scottdale community. He was the former owner and operator of Marion Motors of Connellsville from March 1960 until 1987, when he relinquished ownership to his son, Marion Jr. Marion was a member of the Scottdale sons of Italy Lodge 643 and the Scottdale Elks Lodge 777. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 59 years, Antoinette "Toots" Cuoco Scardina, whom he married June 26, 1940; two sons , James M. Scardina and wife, Patricia, of Glenshaw, and Marion M. "Babe" Scardina and wife, Linda (Farris), of Scottdale; a daughter, Rosemary Hendryx and husband, Michael, of Scottdale; five grandchildren, Michael, Kristen, Krista and Anthony Scardina and Lori Pellock and husband, John; two brothers , Dominic Scardina and wife, Janet, of Buffalo, N.Y. and Anthony Scardina and wife, Kay, of Dumfries, Va.; and a sister, Angeline Smith and husband, Larry, of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren; his stepmother, May Comforti; and three brothers , Frank Scardina (July 12, 1986) and Samuel Scardina (November, 1998), and one in infancy. Marion's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Rita's Cemetery, Connellsville. A parish rosary will be recited Tuesday at 2 p.m. and a wake service at 8:30 p.m., both in the funeral home. The Scottdale Elks Lodge 777 will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to St. John the Baptist R.C. Church Building Fund, in memory of Marion Scardina Sr.

WALTER A. VERCHUCK

Walter A. Verchuck, 80, of Latrobe, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Export, a son of the late Paul A. and Justyna Milan Verchuck. He was a retired coal miner, having worked in the Renton Coal Mine, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater for the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, AMVETS, American Legion Post 515, and the Crabtree Fire Department Social Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Diberdine Verchuck; three brothers , Frank, Andrew and Paul Verchuck; and a sister, Marianne Sorice. He is survived by a brother, Henry P. Verchuck and his wife, Irene, of Latrobe; two sisters , Helen J. DeMaria of Latrobe and Sr. Andrea Verchuck of Bristow, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church with the Rev. Thomas M. Lukac officiating. Interment in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree. military services will be held Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home.

ED WHETSEL

Ed "Mac" Whetsel, 75, of Connellsville (Bullskin Township), died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Chester and Helen Kuhn Whetsel. He was a retired steelworker having been employed at the U.S. Steel Irvin Works. He was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School, Mt. Pleasant, and Mac was a charter member of the Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as treasurer for 39 years. He also attended the Mt. Zion Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Betty Junick of Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by his wife, Lois Freeman Whetsel; the following children, Kathleen Brown and her husband, E. Junior Brown, of White , Dan Whetsel and his wife, Susan, of Dunbar, Janice Smith and her husband, Robert, of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Shelley Miller and her husband, Timothy Miller, of Indian Head; nine grandchildren, Daniel Brown and his wife, Laura, Michael Brown and his wife, Dorcas, Christopher Brown, Marlana Belfiore and her husband, Doug, Shawn Brown, Kimberly Smith, Rebekah Smith, Kristen Miller and Kiley Miller; three great-grandchildren, Cody and Cory Brown, and Brianna Belfiore; a brother, Lawrence "Sam" Whetsel and his wife, Opal, of Rockwood; and a brother-in-law, Ed Junick of Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Leroy C. Kesler and the Rev. Norman Johnston co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlick Cemetery, Bullskin Township. The Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia Society of America in memory of Mr. Whetsel.

CHARLES W. WILSON

Charles W. Wilson, of Monroeville, on Friday, April 7, 2000. A 44-year veteran of Westinghouse Electric, who specialized as an assembly man; also a World War II veteran. Husband of Marie (Reistel); Father of Janis Fisher of North Irwin and Edward Wilson of Jeannette; brother of Richard Wilson of Monroeville; also four grandsons. Friends were received Sunday at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Shaw and Triboro avenues, Turtle Creek, where service will be held Monday at 1 p.m.

ROBERT K. WOOD

Robert K. Wood, 72, of Murrysville, died Sunday, April 9, 2000. He was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Turtle Creek, a son of the late Kenneth K. and Frances Lamberson Wood. He was a retired electrical contractor, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville, Turtle Creek Masonic Lodge, and the Murrysville-Export Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Dinning. He is survived by his wife, Lavina "Vee" Smith Wood; a son, James K. Wood of Mt. Lebanon; a daughter, Susan Wood-Megrey of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Lauren Wood, Christopher Wood-Megrey, Dannielle Wood and Nicholas Wood-Megrey; and a sister, Virginia Kerr of Sun City, Ariz. Visitation with the family will be Monday 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Dr. T. Ewen Holmes officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville or Rotary International.

JAMES R. ASTON

James R. "Bob" Aston, 76, of Ruffsdale, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Friends received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446.

JOHN C. CHRISTMAN
John C. Christman, 58, of Sewickley (Economy Borough), died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Friends will be received in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Monday from noon to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Jones, assisted by the Rev. Don Draughn, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Saltlick Township.

CLAIRE (WEIXEL) CLAUS

Claire (Weixel) Claus, 75, on Friday, April 7, 2000. Wife of the late Eugene G. Sr. Beloved mother of Eugene G. Jr., Mary Dapra, Cheryl Claus and James Claus. Also nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sister of Norbert Weixel and the late James Weixel. She retired after 29 years from IDL, then created her own business known as Tails-a-Wagon, with her daughter, Mary. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES LTD./ROTH CHAPEL, 7450 Saltsburg Road, Penn Hills, where a blessing service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m.

PASQUALE CONTE

Pasquale "Pat" Conte, 75, of Jeannette, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 28, 1924, in South Greensburg, a son of the late Henry and Carmella Moffe Conte. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Penn Oxygen and Supply Co., Penn. Pat was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette; a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the American Legion Post 981, South Greensburg, the Roosevelt Club, Hempfield Township, and enjoyed bowling with the Mixed Seniors League. He is survived by his wife, Anna Maddalena Conte; a daughter, Anita Irwin and husband, John, of Connellsville; a son, Edward Conte of Claridge; three grandchildren, Nichole, Michael and Stacy Irwin, all of Connellsville; two brothers , Dominic Conte and wife, Ginny, of Ohio and Henry Conte Jr. and wife, Sara, of South Greensburg; a sister, Gelsamena Cicco of North Huntingdon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Interment with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 981 will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The Court Seton #306 will pray the rosary Monday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.

James W. "Jim" Younkin, 83, of Owensdale (Upper Tyrone Township), passed away Saturday morning, April 8, 2000, at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, e-mail: rferg@a1usa.net, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David A. Lee officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the American Legion Post #446 of Mt. Pleasant.
