CHARLES B. PEDROW

Charles B. Pedrow, 88, of Jeannette, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Arnold, a son of the late Demetro and Anna Sowash Pedrow. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Pedrow. Surviving are his wife, Frances Cattani Pedrow; two sons , Charles J. Pedrow of Jeannette and John Pedrow and his wife, Debra, of Monroeville; two sisters , Helen Bogaty of Miami, Fla., and Mary Kudrick of Boston, Pa.; a granddaughter, Joy Pedrow; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

ANTHONY R. PERLICK

Anthony R. "Tex" Perlick, 58, of Boston, Pa., died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at UPMC McKeesport. He was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Stella Rush Perlick of Sutersville and the late Nicholas A. Perlick. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Paulette (Bucklew) Perlick; two children, Robert A. Perlick of Boston, Pa., and Jessica M. Bigi of Sutersville; three sisters , Agnes Bigi of Sutersville, Josephine Lencoski of White Oak and Mary Ann Humphery of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers , Joseph of Madison, Harold "Rabbit" of Pittsburgh and David C. Perlick of Sutersville; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his Father , he was predeceased by an infant brother, Nicholas. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Sutersville, with the Rev. James D. Vasil as celebrant. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

RUTH EVA PERSHING

Ruth Eva Pershing, 74, of Greensburg, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at her home. She was born April 20, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late James and Cecilia Stadleman Murray. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she was a nurse at Torrance State Hospital. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg; a graduate of Penn State University; and volunteered at Westmoreland Hospice and Doran Hall at Seton Hill College. She is survived by her husband, Frank E. Pershing Jr.; two sons , Frank E. Pershing III of Canton, Ohio, and James M. Pershing and his wife, Suzanne, of Greensburg; two daughters , Mrs. Leon (Nancy) Edenbo of Carlisle and Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Capalbo of Penn Township; 13 grandchildren; a brother, John Schober of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Joan) Carrara of Cortland, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Interment will be at the St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township. Memorial donations may be made to the Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601. Alvin P. Oskin Jr., funeral director, in charge of arrangements.

CLAUDIA J. (CONWAY) PHILIPP

Claudia J. (Conway) Philipp, 46, of Duquesne, on Thursday, April 6, 2000. Wife of Fred G. Philipp. Daughter of Doris (Kennedy) Conway and the late Joseph Conway. mother of Leigh Anne Milko of Port Vue, Jason J. Milko of West Mifflin, Bernie Milko of West Mifflin and Celena Marie Philipp of Michigan. Sister of Deborah Costelnik of West Mifflin. Grandmother of Jessica, Samantha and Brandon. Friends received Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3511 Main St., Munhall, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Brookshire officiating.

JOSEPH G. PRAVLIK

Joseph G. Pravlik, 79, of Mt. Pleasant (Parfittown), died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow in Transfiguration Cemetery. military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 3368. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the World War II Memorial Fund, c/o American Battle Monument Commission, P.O. Box 96766, Washington , DC 20090-6760, in memory of Mr. Pravlik.

ELEANOR A. ROACH

Eleanor A. Roach, formerly of Jeannette, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in St. Paul Homes, Greenville. She was a daughter of the late James Tracy and Agnes McIntyre Tracy Tussey. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Shade and Novelty of Jeannette. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ of Jeannette, J.D.M.H. Auxiliary Unit #4, and the Progressive Women's Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harry G. Tussey; and two sisters , Catherine Johnson and Ruth Tracy Copenhauer. She is survived by a great-niece, Ruth K. Shafer of Chesterfield, Mo. Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m., at which time services will be held with the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Jobe officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace United Church of Christ, 119 N. Second St., Jeannette, PA 15644, or St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, PA 16125.

MICHAEL B. ROBB JR.

Michael B. "Basil" Robb Jr., 70, of Latrobe, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in UPMC Montefiore, Oakland. He was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Greenwald, a son of the late Mike and Rose Diritske Robb. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army. He retired from Laurel Vending Co. of Greensburg after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church of Crabtree. He also belonged to the Crabtree Volunteer Fire Department, the Old Crabtree Sportsmen's Club, the American Legion Post 515 of Latrobe, and VFW Post 33 of Greensburg, where he was a life member. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ronald Stephen Robb. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Mary "Maggie" Tenerovicz Robb of Latrobe; three daughters , Molly Ann Robb Shimko and husband, Ken, and Rosemary "Rosey" Robb Doelling and husband, Drew, all of Greensburg, and Susan Robb at home; a beloved grandson, Michael Andrew Doelling; two brothers , Richard and wife, Constance, and Ronald and wife, Ruth, all of Latrobe; six sisters , Rose Marie Hertzog and husband, Tom, of Jeannette, Eleanor Firment and husband, Bob, of Greenwald, Virginia Corey and husband, Phil, of Norvelt, Darlene Mlinek and husband, John, of Wyano, Marlene Robb of Greenwald and Marcia Krynicky and husband, Felix, of Norvelt; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets in New Alexandria. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church of Crabtree with the Rev. Father Luke Policicchoi, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Unity Township. The Altar Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 2 p.m. Sunday. military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 33 of Greensburg.

EDWARD C. RUDAR

Edward C. Rudar, 77, of Pittsburgh, on Friday, April 7, 2000. Beloved husband of the late Rose Marie Tezak Rudar. Son of the late John and Mary Rudar. Brother of the late Catherine Miksic. uncle of Janet Hindman and Darlene Miksic. Godfather of Julia Bubanovich, Carol Kauric Osborn and David Sladack. Friends will be received at the HEALY-HAHN FUNERAL HOME INC., 425 Grant Ave., Pittsburgh, from 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10 a.m. St. Nicholas Church, Millvale. Mr. Rudar was a member of CFU Lodge #29, CCU Lodge #9, CNH Javor, Pittsburgh North Shore AARP #4215, VFW Post 7090, American Legion Post #41, CBI Fort Pitt Basha.

MIKE A. SMAYDA

Mike A. Smayda, 70, of Herminie, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Hutchinson, a son of the late John and Anna (Gretz) Smayda. Mike was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Mike was employed by Westinghouse, Waltz Mill, as a security officer with over 30 years of service. He also drove the "Bake Truck" on deliveries for many years with the former Oven King Bakery in Herminie. His memberships included the Herminie United Methodist Church, Madison Golden Agers, and was a life member of the Herminie VFW Post #8427. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Elizabeth Mismas and Anna Lisbon. Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jacqueline (Kiehl) Smayda; two sons , Michael of Pittsburgh and James Smayda of Herminie; a daughter, Ms. Alice Barnett of McKeesport; two grandchildren, Raymond Barnett III and Erin Barnett; two brothers , Joseph of California and John Smayda of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Mary Lux of West Newton; and number of nieces and nephews. Friends received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chuck F. Hildbold Jr. officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the Greensburg VFW Post #33 Honor Guard will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon. The Madison Golden Agers will meet for services Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The Herminie VFW Post #8427 will meet for services Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

CRAIG G. SWAUGER

Craig G. Swauger, 81, of Indiana, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Indian Haven Nursing Center. A son of the late Martin and Isabel Giffen Swauger, he was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Saltsburg. Mr. Swauger graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in education and from the University of Pittsburgh with a master's degree in literature and a doctorate in education. He taught English and journalism in Westmoreland and Indiana County schools for 10 years. He was a professor of English and journalism at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1955 to 1991. Mr. Swauger was a member of the editorial staff of the Indiana Gazette from 1948 to 1960. He was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana Country Club and various professional organizations. Mr. Swauger served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his second wife, Irene Swauger; a daughter, Mary Sara Oldham and husband, Bob, of Longview, Texas ; a son, John Swauger and wife, Cathy, of Indiana; a brother, Donald Swauger of Greensburg; a stepdaughter, Dorene, of the state of California; two grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Evelyn Aten Swauger, in 1994. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at ROBINSON-LYTLE INC., 36 N. Seventh St., Indiana, where a memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elizabeth B. Rogers officiating. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the IUP Library, Craig G. Swauger Memorial Fund (Acct. #349), Foundation for IUP, Indiana, PA 15705.

BEATRICE S. TURNEY

Beatrice S. Turney, 89, of Jeannette, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at home with her loving family at her side. She was born March 14, 1911, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late George A. and Stella Sprague. Prior to retirement, she was an operator at Bell Telephone. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Jeannette, the Pioneers of Bell Telephone, the Jeannette Senior Citizens Center and the Stroke Support Group, and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Turney; a sister, Dorothy Prinkey; and a brother, Paul Sprague. She is survived by a son, Dale T. Turney and his wife, Jackie, of Jeannette; a daughter, June Beck and her husband, Thomas, of Indiana, Pa.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Daniel R. Defassio officiating. Interment will follow in the Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountains Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.

ARDEN P. WADE

Arden P. Wade, 81, of Jeannette, formerly of Clearwater, Fla., died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a son of the late Kenneth and Myrtle Gitshel Wade. He was a retired mechanic for Eastern Airlines and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Grace Lufrano Wade. He is survived by two stepdaughters, Sandra Davane of North Versailles and Debra Collura of Jeannette; seven stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Dolly McDonald of Illinois; also nieces and nephews. There will be no viewing. Private graveside services will be held Monday at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. Arrangements by WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin.

SARAH JANE WATT

Sarah Jane Watt, 81, of Palm Desert, Calif., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000. She was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Allison, Pa., a daughter of the late Michael and Laura Boscoli Quatro. Mrs. Watt was a U.S. Customs broker for 30 years, and belonged to the Women's Club of the Desert. She was an 11-year resident of Palm Desert. She married Alastair Watt on Jan. 31, 1937, in Detroit. She is survived by her husband, Alastair Watt; a son, James Alastair Watt of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Lauralee Howard of Annandale, Va.; her brother, Arthur Quatro of Arlington, Texas ; her sister, Dee Worthington of La Canada; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. No visitation. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township, with the Rev. Aimee W. Twigg officiating.

FRANCES M. YOUNG

Frances M. Young, 89, of Allison Park, formerly of East Liberty and Blairsville, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside. She was born May 17, 1910, in Armstrong County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Belle (Gourley) Young. Prior to her retirement in 1975, Frances was the supervisor of the Armor Division of Federal Laboratories in Tunnelton, having more than 45 years of service with the company. She was a member of the Blairsville Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Wilkinsburg Business and Professional Women, and enjoyed crafts and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers , Homer and Glenn Young; and a sister, Dorothy Milchovich. She is survived by her sister, Betty Green of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at which time services will be held in the funeral home chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Dennis Wagner, officiating. Private interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.
