Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

JAMES V. BAKER
James V. Baker, 85, of Monessen, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, in Jefferson Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1914, in New Kensington, a son of the late Adam and Anna Hohider Baker. Mr. Baker had been employed by American Chain and Cable Co., Page's Division; by Westmoreland Engineering; and had also been employed by Mon Valley Health Center as assistant maintenance supervisor prior to his retirement. While employed at Page's he had served as vice-president of the Steelworkers Union. Mr. Baker was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Monessen. An avid fisherman, Mr. Baker was also a member and past president of the Ravens A.A. of Monessen, where he was fundamental in the building of the existing club. Mr. Baker also belonged to the Hungarian Club of Monessen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Robert "Bob" Baker. Survivors include his wife, Helene Gaysak Baker, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on Oct. 23, 1999; a daughter, Mrs. Lou (Roxanne "De De") Manderino of Belle Vernon; three sons , Donald R. and Myrna Baker of Tampa, Fla., Dr. James V. and Mary Ellen Baker of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Jon and Linda Baker of Belle Vernon; six grandchildren, Rebecca, Beverly, James III, Courtney, Tina, and Jonathan; and a great-grandchild, Bryan. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Monessen. Interment will follow at Belle Vernon Cemetery.

FRANCES CAMPBELL BLAIR

Frances Campbell Blair, 87, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Sacramento, Calif. She was a former resident of Connellsville and Indian Head, and recently moved to Sacramento to be near her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Wm. Sheldon Blair, former pastor of Connellsville Presbyterian Church. She was born in Butler, Pa., and graduated from its high school in 1930. She graduated from Grove City College in 1934, and recently attended her 65th college reunion. She also did graduate work in speech therapy at Northwestern University. Frances Blair taught speech and speech therapy in the Mt. Pleasant School District. She was a Worthy Past Matron of the Hershey Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and supported various activities with the Presbyterian Church and the Salvation Army. She is survived by four children, Sheila of Sacramento, Calif., Ted of Pittsburgh, Pa., Robert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bill of Fairfax, Va.; and by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 1, at noon in the Derry Presbyterian Church of Hershey with a reception that followed immediately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Connellsville Presbyterian Church or to Grove City College, Grove City, PA 16127. Her remains were donated to the University of California Medical School at Davis; thereafter her remains will be cremated.

D. RAY BUNTING

D. Ray "Bud" Bunting, of Mt. Holly, N.J., formerly of Greensburg, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at his residence. He was 54. He was born Sept. 4, 1945, in DeLand, Fla., a son of the late Dr. D. Ray Bunting and Ester Peterson Bunting. He was a graduate of Greensburg High School and Temple University School of Communications. He was employed by RCA as a video producer before starting his own company, Ray Bunting and Others. He had received video awards from the International Film and TV Festival of New York, the International TV Association, the Information Film Producers of America and the American Corporate Video Awards. For the last 19 years, he directed the video crew of the Philadelphia Folk Festival. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Holly where he was director of the Lord's Day contemporary worship services for several years. Surviving are his wife, Judy Todd Bunting; two sons and their wives, Todd and Rachel Bunting of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and Drew and Alison Bunting of Mt. Holly. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Haley Bunting; a brother, Edward P. Bunting of Jeannette; a sister, Betty Rae Powers of Sanford, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the extension of the First Presbyterian Church, 35 Garden St., Mt. Holly, N.J. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the PERINCHIEF CHAPELS, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Holly, 125 Garden St., Mt. Holly, NJ 08060.

MICHAEL DeFILIPPO

Michael DeFilippo, 70, of Camp Hill, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Hospice House, Susquehanna Township. He was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Gaetano and Pasqualina Martorella DeFilippo. He was a graduate of Ramsay High School and Penn State University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He was a retired chemist from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources after 25 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Rosina, Helen and Angelo DeFilippo. He is survived by a brother, Anthony DeFilippo of Raleigh, N.C.; two nephews, Ronald DeFilippo and fiancee, Joan Gratzinger, and Donald and Judy DeFilippo, all of Mt. Pleasant; three great-nieces and five great-nephews; and a great-great niece. There will be no viewing or visitation. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with the Rev. Father Michael W. Matusak officiating. The MYERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Pa., (717) 697-4696, is handling arrangements.

ALEXANDER DRAHUSZ

Alexander "Al" Drahusz, 82, of Wilmerding, on Monday, April 3, 2000. He was a son of the late Mike and Anne (Lesek) Drahusz. Beloved husband of 53 years of Anne (Urick) Drahusz. Stepfather of Robert J. "Bob" (Annice) DePhillips. Grandfather of Dean and Michael (Kandy) DePhillips. Great-grandfather of Caroline DePhillips. Brother of John and William "Bill" Drahusz, Mary Trammell, Margaret Zidanic, Helen Petrosky and Joanne Kopko, and the late Peter Drahusz and Catherine Bilinsky. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Divine Liturgy Thursday in SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (time later).

NELL M. FIELDS

Nell M. Fields, 87, formerly of Bentleyville, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Hempfield Manor, Greensburg, where she had been a resident for the last four years. She was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Bentleyville, a daughter of the late Pietro and Adela Niccolai Marraccini. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bentleyville, also a charter member of the Independent Club Auxiliary and the former Bentleyville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, Dennis A. Fields and his wife, Nancy, of Greensburg; a grandson, Scott A. Fields of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Allen "Hank" Fields; four brothers , Charles, Louis, Nathan, and James Marraccini; and a sister, Edith Campisi. Friends will be received from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the THOMPSON-MARODI FUNERAL HOME INC., 809 Main St., Bentleyville, where services will be held Wednesday, April 5, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rex Horton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment Beallsville Cemetery.

ANNEMARY FOLEY

Annemary Foley, of Murrysville, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, in the Woodhaven Care Center, Monroeville. She was born in Forest Hills, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Murtaugh Foley. She was a retired executive secretary for Westinghouse Electric, Pittsburgh. She was a member of the mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, and a past member of the Murrysville Women's Club. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helene M. Foley in 1986. She is survived by a sister, Mary Louise Foley of Murrysville. Visitation Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the mother or Sorrows Church with Father Daniel Mahoney as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. If desired, memorials may be made to the mother of Sorrows Church.

EVELYN (BANK) FYOCK

Evelyn (Bank) Fyock, 80, of Monroeville, formerly of Pitcairn, on Sunday, April 2, 2000. Beloved mother of Carole Thomas of Monroeville; dear sister of Edwald Bank, Theodore Bank, Eleanor Salamone, and the late Edwin, Earl, Ernest, Edgar, and Eugene Bank, Erna Stucco, Edna LaFace, and Elizabeth Jenkins. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends received Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the WM. O. PEARCE FUNERAL HOME INC., 318 Wall Ave., Pitcairn, where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.

OLLIE MAY GARLAND

Ollie May Garland, 89, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Greensburg, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at her residence. She was born April 12, 1910, in Hempfield Township, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Jane Garris Klingensmith. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Nappy" Garland, in 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Emma Jane Garland of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. There will be no public viewing. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park with the Rev. E. Allen Scanlon officiating. The KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., Greensburg, is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES J. HACKETT III

James J. Hackett III, 32, of South Park, on Sunday, April 2, 2000. Son of James J. Jr. and Cheryl A. (Kehrer) Hackett. Brother of Terry J. Hackett. Grandson of Georgia H. Hackett. Nephew of Terry Davis, George and Kathy Kehrer, Georgia Hackett and Barbara and David Eaton. Cousin of George, Kevin, Davey and Niki, Mike, Danny and Luke. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Nativity Catholic Church, South Park.

JOHN ANTHONY KACZMAREK

John Anthony Kaczmarek, 87, of Hil-Dar, Wheeling, W.Va., died Monday, April 3, 2000, at the Bishop H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling. He was a retired employee of the Jebbia Fruit Company, and Catholic by faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Agnes Chupa Kaczmarek; and his parents, Anthony and Josephine Bank Kaczmarek. Survivors include his second wife, Billie Eckhardt Kaczmarek; a son, John Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters , Patricia Hagala of South Windsor, Conn., and Jacqueline Swann of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepson, Butch Amos William Applegarth of Wheeling; a stepdaughter, Victoria Helen Applegarth, also of Wheeling; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to the interment Wednesday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, W.Va. BERNARD KISTNER

Bernard "Bob" Kistner, 63, of Greensburg RD11, died Monday, April 3, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 11, 1936, in Johnstown. Surviving are his wife, Thelma Swindell Kistner; his brothers -in-law and sisters -in-law, Terry and Ruthie Swindell of Greensburg RD11, Larry and Zani Swindell of Arizona, Sandra Menchio of Greensburg, Caroline and Wilbert Chambers of Armbrust, Patricia Bizich of Hunker, Catherine and Jeff Weis of Greensburg and Kenneth Booth of Greensburg; his mother -in-law, Catherine Clark of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Clark Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Central Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

JEFFREY DANIEL LAVELLE

Jeffrey "Spike" Daniel Lavelle, 55, of Lewis Circle, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Saturday, April 1, 2000, in Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. He moved there 15 years ago from Jeannette, and established Myrtle Beach Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning. Surviving are his parents, Philip and Anna Mae Bersenis Lavelle of Jeannette; his wife, Marie Drossinos Lavelle; two sons , Adam P. Lavelle and his wife, Kristen, of New York City, N.Y., and Michael J. Lavelle of Latrobe; three brothers , John Lavelle and Jerry Lavelle, both of Jeannette, and Michael Lavelle and his wife, Paulette, of Colfax, Calif.; two sisters , Maureen Tutino and her husband, Don, of Vista, Calif., and Vickey Knopp and her husband, Dave, of Mercer; and his faithful companions, Buxton and Callie. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jeannette. Memorials may be made to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society. ROSEMARIE C. MACKO

Rosemarie C. Macko, 65, of White Oak, died Sunday, April 2, 2000. She was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Duquesne, the daughter of the late Walter and Frieda Brunner Klemens. She was previously employed as personal secretary to the personnel manager at Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Rankin, then as a nursing assistant at Woodhaven Nursing Facility. She was a member of St. Angela Merici Church, and was previously a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Christian Mothers. Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Macko; three sons , Dr. Thomas J. Macko of Orefield, Timothy W. Macko of Sanibel Island, Fla., and Terry Macko of Washington , D.C.; two daughters , Debbie Contrella of Millersville, Md., and Linda Smiga of Landisville; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Roney Klemens of Wilmington, N.C. Friends will be received at STRIFFLERS' OF WHITE OAK, Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Angela Merici Church with the Very Rev. Stephen Chervenak as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Angela Merici Building Fund.
