CARMELLA DiSABASTIANO
Carmella "Millie" DiSabastiano, 96, of Jeannette, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Marguerite, a daughter of the late John and Maria Ciocca Panigal. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Ascension Church, Jeannette, and its Rosary Altar Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luigi DiSabastiano, in 1974; three sisters , Flora Perry, Rose Panichella and Mary Mutch; and four brothers , Tony, Frank, Patsy and Joseph Panigal. Surviving are a sister, Lucy Ferrante, and a niece, Gisele Panigal, both of Jeannette; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Ascension Church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Ascension Rosary Altar Society will pray the Rosary Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
PATRICK W. GIRVIN
Patrick W. "Pat" Girvin, 75, of Newell, died Friday, March 31, 2000, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born April 28, 1924, in Pittsburgh. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Bartolomucci Girvin, on Nov. 1, 1995. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Newell, and the VFW. He was retired from LTV Steel, Pittsburgh. Surviving are his son, David Girvin of Newell; daughter, Dianne Kirk of Newell; brothers , James Girvin of Pittsburgh and William Girvin of Philadelphia; and sisters , Sissy, Sally, Clara and Marie. Also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main St., Fayette City, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday 12 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday until 10 a.m., when a blessing service will take place in the funeral home with the Rev. Father Donald Trexler officiating. Entombment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
ALLWIN BLAINE GROVES JR.
Allwin "Blaine" Groves Jr., 64, of Olathe, Kan., passed away at his home Thursday, March 30, 2000. He was born Dec. 19, 1935, to the late Allwin and Eleanor Elizabeth (Perry) Groves of Wegley, Pa. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (Wooley) Groves, in 1960. Mr. Groves was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Previously, he had worked at Vale Technical Institute in Blairsville as an insurance instructor. He owned and operated Coach and Carriage, an automobile repair business. Mr. Groves is survived by his wife, Darlena; six children, Henry of Latrobe, Parley of Olathe, Kan., Patty of Florida, Danielle of Kansas, Mae and Brett at home; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Ann Ferrari of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a brother, Thomas Milo Groves of Las Vegas, Nev. There was no viewing.
LOUISE IDA BELL HALL
Louise Ida Bell Hall, 64, of Saltsburg, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at IHS Mountain View, Greensburg. She was born July 12, 1935, in Saltsburg, a daughter of the late James T. and Clara M. Steele Bell. Before her retirement, Mrs. Hall and her late husband, Chuck, were proprietors of the Village Tavern in Avonmore. Louise was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Slickville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Chuck Hall, in 1988, and a sister, Beryl Richards. She is survived by two daughters , Mary Louise Trunzo and her husband, Thomas, of Saltsburg and Terrie Hall of Galveston, Texas ; five sons , Daniel J. Hall and his wife, Sharon, Richard W. Hall and his wife, Tracy, and Thomas Hall, all of Saltsburg, Paul Hall and his wife, Anna, of Delmont and Timothy Hall and Patricia of Maysville; 15 grandchildren; two brothers , Steele and James Bell, both of Saltsburg; and three sisters , Melissa Bell of Saltsburg, Eleanor Fillar and her husband, Frank, of Strongsville, Ohio, and Alberta Hall and her husband, Ken, of Saltsburg. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. FRANK HARVAT JR.
Frank "Babe" Harvat Jr., 64, of Kiski Township, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in his home. Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Plum Borough, he was a son of the late Frank Sr. and Theresa Sopcak Harvat. He lived in Kiski Township for the past 28 years. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Montgomery & Rust Inc. in Allison Park. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Harvat. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Harvat of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Donald F. Harvat of Saltsburg; a sister, Margaret A. DiVincenzo of Plum Borough; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. JOHN HRANICHNY
John Hranichny, 89, of Roselle Park, N.J., died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his home. He was born in Jeannette, and moved to Roselle Park in 1958. He was a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Elizabeth, N.J., for 15 years, and retired many years ago. Prior to that, he worked for the Hexacon Electric Co., in Roselle Park. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran (sergeant) where he worked as a radio mechanic. He was also a member of the Tricounty Radio Association. His wife was the late Daria Hlywa Hranichny, of Jeannette, who died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter; and a sister, Ann. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MASTAPETER FUNERAL HOME, 400 Faitoute Ave., Roselle Park, N.J. RUTH V. McCURDY
Ruth V. McCurdy, 91, of Ligonier, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at home. She was born April 16, 1908, in Ligonier Township, a daughter of the late F.W. and Anna Stout Berkley. She was a lifelong member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church of Ligonier; had been an employee of the Ligonier Borough, working at Town Hall; and had done babysitting for many families in the valley. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles T. McCurdy in 1988; a daughter, Sarah Barbara; and a son, James Oliver McCurdy; six brothers and sisters , Harry, Earl, Bob, and Elizabeth Berkley, Azile Bills Kerr and Bennie Ferry. Survived by three daughters , Esther R. Estes of Owensboro, Ky., Betty M. Jones of Mobile, Ala., and Nancy Lee Bushnell of Ligonier; four grandsons, James Perry, Timothy Jones, Charles Estes, and Brent Bushnell; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday, April 3, from noon until 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Ligonier. Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the church with her pastor, the Rev. David Kenyon, officiating. Interment will follow in Green Mountain Cemetery, Ligonier Township. EVA RUTH MILLER
Eva Ruth Miller, 71, of Acme, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in the IHS Nursing Center, Greensburg. She was born April 3, 1928, in Acme, a daughter of the late Jess and Sadie Kuhns Brown. Eva Ruth was a lifelong resident of Acme and was a loving mother , grandmother and sister. She was a member of the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren in Mt. Pleasant. She is survived by a son, Paul Miller and his wife, Karen, of Bullskin Township; two daughters , Bonnie Heck and her husband, Donald, of Bullskin Township and Dorothy Nutter and her husband, James, of Acme; four grandsons, Jeff and Mike Miller of Bullskin Township and Eric and Jacob Nutter of Acme; a sister, Irene Gearhart and her husband, George, of Champion; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harry W. Miller, in 1987; two brothers , Henry and Wilmer Brown; and two sisters , Luella June Rhodes and Mae Brown. LOUIS E. MINNICK
Louis E. Minnick, 51, of Ralph-Hibbs, Pa., died Friday, March 31, 2000, at home. He was born Oct. 28, 1948, in Uniontown, a son of Alverda Adams Minnick of Ralph and the late Charles E. Minnick. He was a 1967 graduate of Norwin High School. He worked for Mon River Towing at Speers, and was also a former employee of U.S. Steel, Duquesne. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clark and Blanch Harford Adams; and paternal grandparents, Harry and Violet Lahue Minnick. Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Rebecca L. Miller Minnick of Ralph; a son, Michael Minnick and his fiancee, Wanda Demott, of Newark, N.Y.; stepchildren, Rachel King of Morgantown, W.Va., Ricky Hoffman Jr. of Ralph and Shane Edward Hoffman of Carmichaels; six stepgrandchildren, including Karissa and Lou Nicola; and a sister, Betty Gaff and husband, Mark, of White Oak. Anthony C. Oprendek Sr., 77, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at the Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Borough. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Glassport, a son of the late Ferdinand and Irene Meirtle Oprendek. He was a retired pharmacist for Revco Drug Store, and a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and the McKeesport Nurses Alumni. He is survived by his wife, Rose Plivelic Oprendek; two sons , Anthony Jr. of Union City, Pa., and Carl of North Huntingdon; a daughter, Mariellen Hayward of Akron, Pa.; two grandsons, Eric and Lance Hayward of Akron, Pa.; a sister, Irene Obal of Port Vue; and nieces and nephews. Nicholas Samery, 68, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, in Jeannette. He was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Penn Shaft, a son of the late Nicholas Samery and Lucy Sowash Samery Kramer. Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a moulder by the Lenhart Works of Westinghouse Electric. He was a
Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of VFW Post 781 in North Huntingdon. Surviving are his wife, Rhoda Sarsfield Samery; and three sisters , Margaret Cogar of North Huntingdon, Martha Petrill of Jeannette and Mary Ann Yakubisin of Trafford.
