John L. Barnes

John L. Barnes, 67, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sun., June 6, at Pocono Medical Center. He was the husband of Helen (Harris) Barnes, at home.
Born on September 1, 1931 in Selma, Alabama, he was the son of Johnnie Mae (Larrimore) Barnes Dixon and the late John E. Barnes. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 42 years.
He was employed with Prudential Real Estate, as a real estate salesman, for 10 years. Prior to that, he owned and operated the Millers Meat Market in East Stroudsburg, for seven years. He also served in the U.S. Maritime Service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother , Johnnie Mae Dixon of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters , Carla D. Potocnie of Mount Pocono and Barbara A. Mullally of East Stroudsburg; a son, Steven R. Barnes of East Stroudsburg; and four grandchildren, Jack R. Mullally of East Stroudsburg, Amy M. Barnes of Lancaster, Amanda M. Barnes of East Stroudsburg, and Flora A. Barnes of East Stroudsburg.
A private memorial service, with Rev. George S. Rigby Jr. officiating, and interment will be held on Wed., June 9, at the Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
Cremation will take place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Monroe County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 196 Washington St., Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

Edward C. Fleureton, 84, of Saylorsburg, died Sunday afternoon, June 6, at his home. He was the husband of Elsie (Ortlieb) Fleureton.
Born on June 5, 1915 in Long Island City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles and Mabel (Fuchs) Fleureton. He lived in the area since 1985, moving here from Long Island, N.Y. He had worked as a New York City fireman for 20 years and then owned and operated Edels Auto Repair in Woodside, N.Y. for 20 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Easton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Edward Charles Fleureton Jr. of Queens, N.Y. and Harold Peter Fleureton of Conn.; one daughter, Alice Marion Vincent of Gardena, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Becker.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wed., June 9, in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, with Rev. Clarence Roth officiating. Cremation will follow in the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Ruth S. Laise, 91 of East Stroudsburg, died on Mon., June 7, at Brookmont Health Care Center. She was the wife of Frank S. Laise, deceased.
Born on April 5, 1908 in Terre Haute, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Ella Mae (DeReamer) and George Shively. She was a resident of Monroe County most of her lifetime. She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Class of 1926.
Prior to retirement, she was employed as a clerk for the Army Corps of Engineers at Tock Island, Bushkill. Before that, she was a clerk for the local draft board in Stroudsburg and prior to that, she was employed as a supervisor in the billing department by the former Line Material of East Stroudsburg. She was also a former member of the Dorothy Lim Order of Amaranth Chapter 110.
She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and the church's Davis Sunday School Class. She was also a member and past secretary of the Eastern Star, Chapter 99.
She is survived by a son, William J. Laise of East Stroudsburg; a grandson, Kris G. Laise of Cridersville, Ohio; and a great grandson, Jacob K. Laise of Cridersville, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., June 10, with Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating, in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg. Interment will take place in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Helen Mensch, 78, of Stroudsburg, died Monday in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of George T. Mensch, Jr.
Born on February 5, 1921 in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Tony and Edith Arnt and had lived in the area most of her life. A graduate of East Stroudsburg High School and the Easton School of Nursing, she worked as a registered nurse at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg for many years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Stroudsburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters , Patricia A. Magann of Easton and Stephanie D. Beyer of Hanover; a sister, Harriet Neiderer of Flint, Mich.; a brother, Norman Arnt of Lomita, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one nephew.
Graveside services and burial will be held at noon Thurs., June 10, in the St. John's Cemetery, Bangor, with Rev. Leon Zinkler officiating.
There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Bertha Mae Williams, age 96, of Taylor, died Sunday at Laurel Manor Nursing Home in Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Sterling Williams, who died March 30, 1973.
Born in Frankfort, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Frank Hardy and Cynthia AnnJunia Potter Grover. She was educated in Frankfort, Ind. schools.
She had been a resident of the Scranton area since the mid 1930's. Prior to that, she lived in Stroudsburg for several years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Sears in the Scranton store. She was a member of the Church of God in Taylor.
Surviving are a son, Meredith Van Sickle of Stroudsburg; two granddaughters, Anita Boyanowski of Pittston and Lori Van Sickle of Orlando, Fla.; two great granddaughters, Susan Yugovsky and Sara Boyanowski, both of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers .
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., June 10, in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery in South Abington Township. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the service, on Thursday.

Bernice E. Mate, 68, of Reeders, died Monday, June 7, at home. She was the wife of George Mate.
Born in Trenton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Beatrice (Belmont) Kwiatkowski, and attended Trenton High School.
Mrs. Mate was co-owner of George Mates and Associates. Prior to her semi-retirement, she was employed as a painter for Stangle Pottery in Trenton, N.J.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Pocono Summit.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard Mate of Tannersville; a daughter, Cynthia Kresge of Cresco; a sister, Dorothy Palejczyk of Levittown; four grandchildren, Richard Mate Jr. of Tobyhanna, Joseph and Christopher Mate of Tannersville, and Jaklynn Kresge of Cresco; and two great grandchildren, Ravon-Richard and Alisha Mate of Tobyhanna. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Kwiatkowski.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Wed., June 9, at Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley. Father Michael Salnicky will perform a Parastas service at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, June 10, a Panachida service will take place at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Divine Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m., at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Route 940, Pocono Summit. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.

Charles A. "Chip" Evans Jr., 84, of Mountainhome, died Saturday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Blanche I. (Albert) Evans, at home.
Born Oct. 6, 1914, in Barrett Township, he was the son of the late Charles A. Sr. and Jennie F. (Seese) Evans, and had been a resident of Barrett Township all his life. He had been a foreman for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways for several years and was a machinist at J.A. Reinhardt and Co., Mountainhome for 18 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the Mountainhome United Methodist Church and a former member of the Buck Hill Falls Golf Club and the Pocono Manor Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Smith of Tannersville; three sons , Richard Evans, David Evans and James Evans, all of Mountainhome; two sisters , Miriam Kretzer of Roanoke, Va., and Edith May Sieg of Canadensis; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Charles Evans in 1985 and a daughter, Jeanne Bowman in 1982.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Mountainhome United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elaine B. Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Mountainhome.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Eugenia W. "Gene" Kelly, 72, formerly of Stroudsburg, died on Monday at her home in Rustburg, Va. She was the wife of Walter J. Kelly, at home. The couple was married for 53 years.
Born on July 25, 1926 in Philadelphia , she was the daughter of the late Nathan E. and Maude B. (Truex) Swain. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lynchburg, Va.
She worked part-time for the Sheraton in Stroudsburg for nine years, as the dining room cashier/hostess.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons , James Kelly of Yardley, Stephen Kelly of Scotrun, Michael Kelly of Lynchburg, Va., Mark Kelly of Bartonsville, and John Kelly of Roseto; one sister, Ann Wells of Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Mon., May 31, from the Our Lady of Victory Church in Tannersville, with Rev. Father Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant.
There will be a viewing from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, from the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg.
A Committal Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tues., June 1, in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

Robert E. Lee, 88, of Reeders, died Tuesday afternoon, May 25, in Stroud Manor Nursing Home, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Marion (Possinger) Lee, who died in 1970.
Born on February 11, 1911 in Analomink, he was the son of the late Philip and Mae (Lee) Lee and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
He had worked at Patterson Kelly in East Stroudsburg for 10 years and then was co-owner of the Lee & Hallett Sand and Gravel Pit in Stroud Township, until retiring in 1973.
He was a life charter member of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company and also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1106 in Stroudsburg.
He is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Bryson of Reeders; two granddaughters, Holly MacFalls of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Heidi Peck of Bartonsville; a grandson, Robert J. Bryson of York; three great grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Laufler of Newton, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., May 29, from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The Rev. Ronald H. Stott, pastor of Reeders United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Reeders Methodist Cemetery.

Hazel R. DeHaven, 95, of Hamilton Township, died Wednesday morning, May 26, in her son's home. She was the widow of George DeHaven.
Born on March 8, 1904 in Bushkill, she was the daughter of the late Merritt and Martha (Walter) Dickisson and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
She was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church and was very active in the church's activities.
She is survived by one son, Charles M. DeHaven of Hamilton Township; two grandsons, Michael J. Weaver of Gettysburg and Charles R. DeHaven of Snydersville; one granddaughter, Sandra Warters of Snydersville; one great grandson, James Weaver of Gettysburg; one great granddaughter, Sara Katchmere of Snydersville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lavenne "Peggy" Weaver, who died November 17, 1998.

Arlys "Mumps" S. Foster Jr., age 83, of Kunkletown, formerly of Hanover Ave., Allentown, died Tuesday, May 25 at his home. He was the husband of the late Loleta E. (Ott) Foster, who died May 1997.
Born in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arlys Foster Sr. and the late Florence E. (Knapp) Foster.
He had worked for Friehofer's Bakery in Allentown for 30 years, until his retirement in 1972.
He was a Decorated United States Navy Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the International Bogey Chasers Union of the World and the Ancient Order of the Deep. He was also a member of the VFW Post 5382 in Sciota.
He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert. He was also a member of the Fairview Senior Citizens in Brodheadsville and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens in Kresgeville. He was a life member of the East Allentown Fire Company Inc. in Allentown.
He is survived by two brothers , Roy Foster of Trexlertown, and Clark Foster of Merritt Island, Fla.; four sisters , Arline Faust wife of the late Floyd Faust of Catasauqua, Jean Bogert wife of Richard Bogert of Alburtis, Linda Bogert of Emmaus, and Betty Koch wife of Theodore Koch of Clearwater; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters , Doris Comstock and Anna Malozzi; and two brothers , George Foster and Russell Foster.
Cremation will take place at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sun., June 6, at the Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert, with the Rev. Michael Eckroth officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Cemetery. There will be no viewing.
