Linshaw grew up in Elkins Park, graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1955, from Franklin and Marshall College in 1959, and from Villanova Law School in 1962.

He also sponsored numerous local projects, was an assistant local wrestling coach, supported developmental disabilities programs and spent volunteer time in the Wayne-Pike Adult Literacy Program tutoring immigrants and English speaking students with little education in the Pike County jail. He was awarded the honor of tutor of the year in 1998 for his efforts.
Linshaw maintained an avid interest in amateur wrestling since his high school and college wrestling days. He was a voluminous reader of classical literature and poetry and had a strong appreciation for music.
