Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Gilpin of Sterling died Tuesday afternoon at home. She was the widow of R. Nevin Gilpin who died in 1965.
She was born in South Sterling, a daughter of the late Lyman Leroy and Celia Burrus Osborne.
She attended the Greene Dreher Newfoundland High School.
Prior to retirement, she had been employed at WT Grants in Honesdale, Gilpins Drug Store in Newfoundland, the Newfoundland A&P, and was a telephone operator for the Newfoundland Exchange.
She was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church, Sterling United Methodist Women, Kings Helper Class, and the Administrative Board. She was also a 50 year member of Ladies of Paupack Rebekah Lodge, Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge, Past District Deputy, honored with the Rebekah Degree of Chivalry, former member of the Community Grange, Wayne County Cooperative Extension, a 4-H leader, Historians of Sterling Township, and Sterling Civic Association. Her award winning smile and caring ways will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Gilpin Wood and her husband Robert, and grandchildren, Robert N. Wood and his wife Kathleen, and Richard W. Wood and his wife Tricia. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by brothers , Oliver (Jack), Truman, and Ross.
The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Sterling United Methodist Church, Route 196, Sterling, with services by the Rev. Robert L. Wood, son-in-law, and Rev. Patricia Lee. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.
Friends may call Friday, June 11, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the James H. Wilson Funeral Home, Inc., Route 296, Lake Ariel, and Saturday morning, June 12, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Rebekah Lodge services will be held Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Graveside services were held May 28, 1999 in East Stroudsburg for William R. Hamer who passed away in Kingman, Arizona, November 22, 1998.
Jenna Hughes, his great-granddaughter, read "the Twenty-Third Psalm", which was followed by "The Lord's Prayer".
Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
A luncheon was held for thirty members of Mr. Hamer's immediate family and close friends after the services at J.R.'s Green Scene Restaurant.

Marion H. Peacock, 87, of East Stroudsburg, died on Tuesday, June 8, in her home. She was the wife of the late George Peacock.
Born on February 12, 1912, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Ellen Theresa (O'Brien) and Charles Braman. She was a resident of Monroe County for the past 14 years.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Prior to retirement, she worked as a packer for the Bates Manufacturing Company in West Orange, N.J., for 23 years. Before that, she was employed with the Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Newark, N.J., for 14 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Shann of East Stroudsburg, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Madison.
A memorial prayer service will be held on Friday, June 11, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas J. Sokolowski officiating in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg. Cremation will take place at the H.G. Smith Crematory.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, June 11, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Eugene Jack Mollenhauer, 69, of Bluffton, S.C., died Tuesday at his home.
He was born on October 27, 1929, in Philadelphia and was the son of the late Eugene and Grace Ellen Wood Mollenhauer. He moved to South Carolina from Tannersville.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Mollenhauer; four sons , E. Craig Mollenhauer, Mark Mollenhauer, Jeffrey Long and Dennis Long; two daughters , Andrea Lybarger and Gail Quintero; nine grandchildren, Kevin and Philip Quintero, Kyle, Steven, and Donald Mollenhauer, and Samantha, Jennifer, Brooks, and Jacklyn Long; and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Stephanie Mollenhauer. He was preceded in death by a son, Jay.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 12, at the Bradley Funeral Home, 601 Route 73 S., Marlton, N.J.

Barbara Ann Strohl, 50, of Kunkletown, died Monday, June 7, at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
She was the wife of Leroy S. Strohl. They had been married 26 years.
Born in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Adam and Mary (Borger) Kuehner of Kunkletown.
She had worked at Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown for seven years.
She was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville.
In addition to her husband, Leroy, and her parents, Adam and Mary, she is survived by a daughter, Tracy Strohl and her fiancee, Matt Cooper of Stroudsburg, and a son, Jonathan Strohl of Kunkletown. She is also survived by a sister, Janet wife of Harvey D. Beers Jr. of RR 2, Palmerton, and three brothers , Gene Kuehner of Kunkletown, Gerald Kuehner of Kunkletown and Randy Kuehner of Kunkletown.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville with the Rev. Charles Stetler officiating. Interment will be in the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, Trachsville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville.

Isabel B. Jarrett, 87, of Lantana, Fla., formerly of Stroudsburg and Bethlehem, passed away on Thursday, May 27, in Columbia JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, Fla.
Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of William O. Boehm and Harriet (McCarthy) Boehm, and the wife of the late Fred S. Jarrett.
She was a resident of Monroe County for 34 years. She and "Fritz" moved permanently to Florida in 1981.
She and her husband owned and operated Manitou Cottage in Stroudsburg for 25 years prior to their retirement.
She was active in Christ Episcopal Church and served as chairperson of the Altar Guild and Envelope Secretary for several years.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan A. Bowman of Pen Argyl.

William T. Carnes, 79, formerly of Washington Blvd., Bangor, died Tuesday morning, June 8, in Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington Township, where he was a guest since April 6.
He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Smith) Carnes, a guest at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington Township. The couple observed their 57th wedding anniversary last September 20.
Born January 29, 1920, in Keating Township, N.Y., he was a son of the late McClellan and Cora (Shoemaker) Carnes.
Mr. Carnes last worked part time at NAPA Automotive, Wind Gap, for over 10 years, retiring in 1989. He and his wife owned and operated B & E Variety Store on Washington Blvd., Washington Twp. for 12 years until selling the business in 1977. Prior to this, he was a poultry farmer in Johnsonville.
He was a member of First United Evangelical Congregational Church, Bangor, where he had served as a Trustee at Church. He was a Life Member of Bangor Elks Lodge #1106, Bangor, where he served as Secretary for the last 10 years. He served as a volunteer for both the Northampton County Meals on Wheels Program and for Miller Memorial Blood Bank. Also, he was a former Secretary of the Senior Citizens Group, A.A.R.P., Bangor.
Mr. Carnes enjoyed R.V. travel.
A disabled Army Veteran of World War II serving as a First Lieutenant, he was wounded in action in Bremmer Haven, Germany.
He had attended Olean High School, Olean, N.Y.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters , Barbara E. Vitarius of Wilmington N.C., Gail B. Moyer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Linda Gorman of Allentown; one son, Dean W. Carnes of Mt. Bethel; one brother, Robert Carnes of St. Mary's; seven grandchildren; and two great granddaughters.
Three sisters , Frances Huey, Virginia Boorun and Gay Rounds all died earlier.
Bangor Elks Lodge #1106 will hold services at 7 p.m. Thursday in First United Evangelical Congregational Church, 26 South Second Street, Bangor, followed by Memorial Services in the church. There will be no viewing. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Franklin A. Smith, 84, of Stone Church Drive, Mt. Bethel, died Tuesday in Slate Belt Medical and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Marion E. (Pysher) Smith who died November 9, 1989.
Born in Bath, he was the son of the late Arthur and Estella (Kunkle) Smith.
He was a farmer his entire life, owning and operating Cloverdale Farm, Mt. Bethel.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Stone Church, for over 60 years.
He was a member of the Richmond Lions Club, Pennsylvania Farmers Union, Farm Bureau Federation, Tatamy, and the Agway Co-operative.
He is survived by a son, Paul F. Smith with whom he resided; two daughters , Charlene B. Bellis of Wind Gap and Lynne D. Davis of Saylorsburg; a brother, Walter Smith of Easton; three sisters , Lillian Comfort of Nazareth, Eva Bartholomew of Quakertown, and Florence Fehnel of Allentown; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers Russell, Herbert, Emmett and Lester and sisters , Marie Bilheimer, Dorothy Gerhart, Helen Williamson, and Hilda Werkheiser.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, Stone Church. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the James J. Palmeri Funeral Home, 6602 Alpha Ave., Martins Creek, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Centerville Cemetery, Stone Church.

Maurice Foley, 81, of Pocono Summit, died Wednesday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born on December 31, 1917, in Pocono Summit, he was the son of the late Gerald J. and Mary (Harney) Foley and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked at Cramer's in Pocono Summit for 30 years, retiring as manager in 1987.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Pocono Summit and the Wilson Fischer Post #413 American Legion, Pocono Pines.
He is survived by two sisters , Grace Foley of Pocono Summit and Mae Grady of Clark, N.J. He was preceded in death by two sisters , Esther Foley and Rita Foley, and a brother, David J. Foley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Pocono Summit, with Msgr. Arthur J. Kaschenbach as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Marth Ruth Flowers, 60, of Mount Pocono, died Wednesday evening in the hospice unit of Mercy Hospice unit of Mercy Hospital, Scranton. She was the wife of James M. Flowers, with whom she would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this Sunday, May 9.
Born on July 16, 1938 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Hilbert and Martha McCauley. She lived in Monroe County for the past 40 years.
She had worked in the housekeeping department of Mt. Airy Lodge for 17 years.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Roman Catholic Church, Mount Pocono; the Eagles Auxiliary; the Moose Auxiliary; and the American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters , Debra Griffith of Woodale and Mary C. Snyder of Oxford, Florida; two granddaughters, Vanessa Flowers and Lori Morgan Snyder, both of Oxford, Fla.; four sisters , Betty Schipp, Rosemary Occhipinti, Kay Masiar and Clare McCauley, all of Scranton; a brother, Paul McCauley of Scranton; three aunts; an uncle; and many nieces and nephews.
Prayer services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sat., May 8, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg; Msgr. Arthur J. Kaschenbach will be officiating. Burial will follow in Keokee Chapel Cemetery, Paradise Valley.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, at the funeral home.

Mitchell M. Slocum

Mitchell M. Slocum, 36, son of Marjorie and Walter Eddy of Mountainhome, and Howard R. Slocum Sr. of Gouldsboro, passed away on April 30, in Louisburg, Kansas.
He was a graduate of Pocono Mountain and Penn State University, where he earned highest distinction and honors in his major, Finance. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Beta Gamma Sigm and Sigma Iota Epsilon, and an exchange student at Cologne University in Germany.
Upon graduation he went to work for Roadway Express Trucking Inc. and then Yellow Freight Systems Inc., where he was a Team Systems Coordinator in their corporate headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas.
Mitch was a member of the Rotary Club, Flying Shriners at the Ararat Temple, Kansas City, Mo., and a past member of the Masonic Center Lodge 325 in Bartonsville.
In addition to his parents, Mitch is also survived by his sister Cheryl Witt, wife of Mark and a niece, Alexis Witt of Fla.; two brothers , Carl W. Slocum and Howard R. Slocum Jr., both of Tobyhanna; two grandmothers, Priscilla J. Carey of Thornhurst and Margaret Eddy of Forty Fort; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a Masonic Memorial Service at the Masonic Center Lodge 325 at 10 a.m. on Sat., May 15 in Bartonsville.
Another memorial service will be held for family and friends at 10 a.m. on Fri., June 11, at the Mountainhome Methodist Church, corner of Routes 191 and 390 in Mountainhome.
