Joseph T. Armato

Joseph T. Armato, 76, of Stroudsburg, died Sunday morning at home. He was the husband of Florinda Maria (Vittori) Armato, to whom he had been married since March 8, 1947.
Born on December 12, 1922 in Auburn, Illinois, he was the son of the late Giovianni Joseph and Mary Rose (Azara) Armato and had lived in the area since 1960. He was a federal postal worker from 1950-1983, having worked on the New York Mail Train before retiring from the Lehigh Valley Post Office.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He participated in the first landings in New Guinea. He was a member of the 1874 Engineer Aviation Battalion earning the rank of first sergeant in 1944 and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He received the Distinguished Unit Citation Medal; the Presidential Unit Citation Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Medal; the Army Occupation Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal.
Most recently, he worked with his son Joseph, of Matti's in Tannersville, and was known as Pop to everyone. He took pride in his beautiful gardens and always met everyone with a smile and "Hello."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , John Armato of Pottstown and Joseph V. Armato of Snydersville; a daughter, Mary Whittaker of Stroudsburg; a brother, Benjamin Armato of New York; two sisters , Rose Accardi and Lee Bachman, both of New York; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers , John Armato and Thomas Armato.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6, in Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville, with the Rev. Father Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Frank F. Kristof

Frank F. Kristof, 68, of East Stroudsburg, died on Monday, May 3, at Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort. He was the husband of Joyce (Haag) Kristof, at home.
He was born in Bangor, a son of the late Alexander and Juliana (Chunko) Kristof. He was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge in East Stroudsburg.
He owned and operated the Blue Ridge Inn & Resort in Echo Lake, from 1968 to 1977; then worked as a real estate salesman in the Pocono area for 12 years. He was currently employed by the Delaware Water Gap Joint Bridge Commission for the past three years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force; having served during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid golfer and played in several leagues. He also liked opera and Hungarian music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Bette Jo Sklar of East Rockaway, N.Y. and Anne Franc Finley of Locust Valley, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Alexa Sklar and Morgan Sklar both of East Rockaway, N.Y. Oliver Finley, India Finley and Alexander Finley all of Locust Valley, N.Y.; five sisters , Ann Zelenka, Helen Falcone, Margaret Nagy all of Bangor, Vera Nagy of Roslyn and Gloria Pavlik of Bethlehem.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, in the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Edward Kimes officiating.
Interment will take place in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Joseph Baux, 929 Clay Avenue, Stroudsburg, died Monday, April 19, at his home.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Leona Urban Baux.
Surviving are a brother, Ronald of Scranton, and a sister, Carolyn of Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters , Dorothy Cunningham and Eleanor Baksis, and a brother, Robert S.
A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, April 22.

Ernest R. "Butch" Griggs

Ernest R. "Butch" Griggs, 60, a resident of the Slate Belt Nursing Center in Bangor and formerly of Saylorsburg, died Wednesday in Easton Hospital.
Born in Phillipsburg, he was a son of Linda (Lutz) Griggs of Saylorsburg and the late Ernest L. Griggs.
He had been a volunteer at the Chestnuthill Nutrition Center and with the West End Senior Citizens in Brodheadsville for ten years and with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for five years. He was also a member of the West End Ambulance Association.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tannersville.
In addition to his mother , he is survived by a brother, Dale Griggs of Hampstead, Md., one niece, one nephew, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Thomas Richards officiating. Burial will be in Gilbert Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from noon until the time of the service.

Dr. Walter L. Magnusson of Canadensis died Tuesday, May 4, at his home.
Born in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter C.J. and May E. (Kennedy) Magee. He was a resident of Canadensis for the past 10 years and before that he lived in Marshalls Creek for nine years. In his earlier years he lived in Iceland and the Brooklyn, N.Y. area.
He received his Ph.D in Linquistics from Columbia University, in New York. For many years he did private tutoring in the New York area.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by three sisters , Florence R. Milo and Janet C. Magee, both of Cresco, and Bernadette C. Magee of Albany, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary E. Magee; brothers , Laurence A. Magee, John W. Magee and infant brothers , Arthur and Baby Magee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Sat., May 8, from St. Mary's of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Mount Pocono; Msgr. Arthur Kaschenbach will be officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Fri., May 7, at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg.

Robert E. Bonny, 71, of Rotonda West, Fla., died at home on Monday, May 31.
He was born and raised in Bloomington, Ill.
He served 20 years active duty as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. After which, he transferred to the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserve and settled in Tobyhanna.
While residing in Tobyhanna, he served as a supervisor of Coolbaugh Township and was an active member of Coolbaugh Township Volunteer Fire Company, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Tobyhanna-Newfoundland International Lions Club. In addition, he was a past District Governor of the Pennsylvania Lions. After 20 years of employment with PNC Bank, he retired in 1989 and moved to Florida. While residing in Florida, he remained an active member of the Lions Club.
Robert leaves his wife of 50 years, Rita (O'Hara) Bonny who currently resides in their home in Rotonda West, Fla. He is also survived by his mother , Ruby George of Venice, Fla.; his three daughters , Theresa Storm of Tannersville, Lynn Kelly of Tobyhanna, and Patricia Gaige of South Gulf Cove, Fla. He leaves four grandchildren, Scott and Michael Storm of Tannersville and Megan and Sean Kelly of Tobyhanna. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Huss of Van Cover, Wash.; three brothers , Marvin Bonny of Melbourne, Fla., Charles Bonny of West Salem, Ill., and Duane Bonny of Pickens, S.C. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi in Englewood, Fla., on Saturday, June 19.

Michael Joseph Cavallo

Michael Joseph Cavallo, 29, of Gouldsboro, died June 5, as a result of injuries sustained from an auto accident.
Born in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of Patrick Cavallo and Joan Owen. His stepfather was Gabriel J. Owen.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Margaret; his sister, Michele Morice; a brother, Christopher; stepbrothers, John, Michael, and Matthew; and stepsisters, Andrea, Faith, and Janice. Michael also leaves many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Michael was to marry in October and leaves behind his fiancee, Debra Giambruno.
Michael was a wonderful person with a kind and gentle heart and will be missed and loved by all, forever.
Viewing will be at the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth, N.Y., on Tuesday and Wednesday. He will be laid to rest in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, on Thursday after a mass at St. Rita's Church, Main Street, Gouldsboro, at 11 a.m.

Evelyn D. Swingle, 87, formerly of Stroudsburg, died on Monday at Easton Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Russell J. Swingle, who died in 1993.
Born on October 17, 1911, in Bartonsville, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Miller) Hartman. She was a member of the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church.
She was a member of the Stroudsburg Garden Club.
She is survived by a son, Richard L. Swingle, Millsboro, Del.; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald, and a grandson, Randy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, at 11 a.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg, with Pastor Dennis Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Joyce W. Robbins, 71, of Tannersville, died Tuesday morning, June 8, in her home. She was the wife of Donald A. Robbins Jr. to whom she had been married for 48 years.
Born on July 10, 1927, in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Lewellyn and Rita (Seavey) Abbott and had lived in the area since 1955 moving here from Binghamton, N.Y.
She was secretary for the former Robbins Insurance Co. in Tannersville of which her husband had owned and operated and had currently worked part-time at the Christian Science Reading Room, Stroudsburg.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Stroudsburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Donald B. Robbins and Mark W. Robbins, both of Tannersville; and four grandsons.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Charles V. Beck

Charles V. Beck, 74, of Columbia, N.J., died Monday, June 7, 1999.
Born in Easton, Beck was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Beck. He was a lifelong resident of Columbia, N.J. He was employed by the Warren County Road Department for many years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he was a self-employed farmer in Knowlton Township, N.J. He was a member of the Knowlton Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Beck was predeceased by his wife, Ida Mae, in 1995. He is survived by his son Benjamin B. of Columbia, N.J.; a sister, Gladys Dalton of Union City, N.J.,; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Newbaker Funeral Home, Route 94, Blairstown, N.J. Burial will follow in the Hainesburg Cemetery, Hainesburg, N.J. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marion H. Stout, 75, of Brodheadsville, died on Monday, June 7, at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born on September 8, 1923, in Pen Argyl, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Parry) and John W. Smith. She was a resident of Monroe County for most of her lifetime.
She worked as a sewing machine operator at Pocono Bias in East Stroudsburg for 20 years. She was also a Wave, Seaman 1st Class, in the United States Navy during World War II.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in East Stroudsburg as well as a member of the George M. Kemp American Legion Post 346 in East Stroudsburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha E. Sulcoski and son-in-law, Frank Sulcoski, both of Brodheadsville; two sisters , Anna Bush of East Stroudsburg and Arlene Mehas of Bradenton, Fla.; four grandsons; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 11, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edward Kimes officiating in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg. Interment will take place in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. There will be no visitation.
