John "Jay" Sidlosky

June 25, 1999

John "Jay" Sidlosky, 84, of Canadensis, died Friday evening in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Dolores "Dody" (VanBuskirk) Sidlosky at home.

Born on May 14, 1915 in Peckville, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Bucknavich) Sidlosky and had lived in Barrett Township most of his life. He had worked in maintenance at Skytop for thirty-five years retiring in 1980.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of the Evans Blitz Post 922 American Legion, Canadensis and the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2940 Veternas of Foreign Wars, East Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ruth Cramer, wife of Larry of Candensis; two sisters , Margie Ballock and Helen Jack, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers , Joseph Siedol of Cleveland and William Siedol of California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Bergen.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be in the H.G. Crematory, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barrett Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Buck Hill Falls, PA 18323.

Lulu Caroline Staples

June 24, 1999

Lulu Caroline Staples, 97, died on Thursday, June 24, at Stroud Manor in East Stroudsburg.

Born in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of deceased Mary (Repsher) and Lewis Staples.

Prior to retirement, she worked on the assembly line at Ronson Corporation in Delaware Water Gap for over 27 years. She was the oldest living member of East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter #99 in Stroudsburg.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, with the Rev. Dr. Edward Kimes and Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating, at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.

Friends and family may pay their respects from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Tuesday.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, S. Courtland St., East Stroudsburg, Pa.

A. LeRoy Metz, 72, of Baltimore, Md., formerly or Wind Gap, died Sunday, June 20, in his home.

He resided in Baltimore since the early 1960s.

A self employed insurance investor, he owned and operated Roy Metz Associates, Baltimore.

Born May 11, 1927 in Wind Gap, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bertha (Wagner) Metz.

Earlier in life, he led the LeRoy Metz Orchestra, playing at various resorts in the Poconos.

He was a 1945 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and a United States Army veteran, having served from 1945 to 1946.

He is survived by three daughters , Barbara Metz, Cindy Metz, and Susan Metz, all of Baltimore; one brother, Morris Metz of Forks Township; and one sister, Sarah Jones of Saylorsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Metz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, in the Schmidt Home Inc., 202 West Street, Wind Gap. Call from 10 a.m. until time of service. The burial will take place at Plainfield Cemetery in Plainfield Township. The family requests memorials be made to Hope UCC, 2nd Street, Wind Gap, Pa. 18091.

Arlington M. Overpeck

June 23, 1999

Arlington M. "Bump" Overpeck, 50, of Mt. Pocono, died Wednesday evening in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Rosemarie (Brands) Overpeck, at home.

Born on August 17, 1948, in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of Howard Norman Overpeck of Kunkletown and the late Mary Ann (Kibler) Overpeck. He had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked for 35 years as a truck driver, last working for the Graver Trucking Company, Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife and Father , he is survived by two daughters , Stephanie Overpeck of Sun Valley and Melissann Strauch of East Stroudsburg; two stepdaughters, Loretta Lynn Morris and Crystal Marie Brands, both of Mt. Pocono; a stepson, Christopher Eurich of Mt. Pocono; six brothers , Gilbert S. Overpeck of Wind Gap, Glenn D. Overpeck of Snydersville, Howard N. Overpeck Jr. of Kunkletown, Robert C. Overpeck of Saylorsburg, and Stanley G. Overpeck of Mt. Pocono: twin brother and sister, Marlin L. Overpeck of Kunkletown and Marlene A. Smith of Greentown; sister, Theresa Pontrelli of Stroudsburg; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. James Hary officiating. Cremation will follow in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

There will be a viewing on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family at HCR 1, Box 107, Mt. Pocono, PA 18344.

George Wasser Jr.

June 24, 1999

George Wasser Jr., 63, of East Stroudsburg, died Thursday, June 24, at home. He was the husband of Shirley (Shosh) Wasser, at home.

He was born in Allentown, the son of B. Marie Wasser of Bartonsville and the late George B. Wasser. He worked 27 years at Patterson Kelly & Co. in East Stroudsburg and retired from Ecolaire in Easton, where he was a supervisor and draftsman.

He was a member of the F.O.E. #1106 and a past volunteer with the East Stroudsburg Fire Department. He was a member of the Trinity Fellowship Church, Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife and mother , he is survived by a son, George B. Wasser, husband of Jodie, of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Sharon L. Berglund, wife of the late Lawrence Berglund of Hellertown; one grandson, Eric of San Diego; and two granddaughters, Genna and Karen of Hellertown.

Services will be held on Sunday, June 27, at 4 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. William Sibley officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

There will be a viewing on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Monroe County, RR 5, Box 5169, Suite 101, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

William Albert Neyhart Sr.

June 5, 1999

Bill Neyhart Sr., 82 years old, a longtime Sunbury resident, died June 5, at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center. He was the husband of Caroline (Esslinger of Philadelphia) Neyhart, at home.

He was born in Stroudsburg and attended Rider College in Trenton, N.J.

He began a career in the life insurance business in 1941. He was the manager of the Sunbury office of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company from 1953, until his retirement.

Mr. Neyhart served with the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946, with assignments in the Pacific theater of operations including New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was a past president of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Veterans Association.

He was a 32nd-degree freemason and a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, B.P.O. Elks, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, and a past member of the Susquehanna Valley Country Club.

After his retirement, he pursued many personal interests. He was a talented musician and avid fisherman. Since tracing his family history, he had continued his interest in genealogy. He was past president and the genealogist of the local chapter of sons of the American Revolution, a member of the Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Pioneers, and former secretary of the Northumberland County Historical Society. He researched historical records for many local residents and was the recipient of numerous Pennsylvania S.A.R. awards. He served as state delegate to S.A.R. in 1991.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Mary Neyhart of Suquamish, Wash.; Jeff Neyhert of Hurley, N.Y.; and Bill Neyhert Jr. of Mifflinburg; and four grandchildren.

The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania is handling the arrangements. Graveside ceremonies were held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill. 60611.

Edith M. Vogeley

June 16, 1999

Edith M. Vogeley, 85, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday afternoon, June 16, in the Brookmont Health Care Center. She was the widow of Walter R. Vogeley Jr. who died in 1990.

Born on November 22, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Alwina (Best) Becker and had lived in Monroe County since 1989, coming here from Queens, N.Y.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church, Bartonsville.

Surviving are a son, Walter R. "Rick" Vogeley III of Stroudsburg and a daughter, Babette Markey of Boulder, Colorado. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Herbert C. Becker, and a sister, Gladys Mulligan.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday evening, June 20, at 7 p.m. from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. William Sibley officiating. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Stroudsburg Cemetery with Rev. James E. Griel officiating. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Fellowship of American Evangelical Christian Churches, P. O. Box 801, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or to the building fund of St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church, P. O. Box 155, Bartonsville, PA 18321.

June 15, 1999

Stephen S. Lamson, 50, of Arrowhead Lake, Leisure Lands, Marshalls Creek, and formerly of Bangor, died Tuesday, June 15, at his residence.

He was employed as a computer consultant with the U.S. Army Depot in Tobyhanna and had also worked for various industries in the Lehigh Valley, Pocono Area, and in New Jersey.

He was born July 11, 1948, in Easton, a son of Evelyn (Brannan) Lamson of Washington Twp., and the late Spere Lamson.

He was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1967, and a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Engineering.

In addition to his mother , he is survived by one brother, Bruce of Saylorsburg; three sisters , Helen and Pattie both of Washington Twp., and Kathy Minardo of Nazareth.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, at the home of his brother, Bruce Lamson, 202 Valley View Drive, Saylorsburg. There will be no calling hours.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Northeast District, P. O. Box 1392, Bethlehem, PA 18018-1392.

Lillian B. Stoltz

April 30, 1999

Lillian B. Stoltz, 87, a resident of Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort and formerly of Stroudsburg, died early Friday morning in Palmerton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Milton E. Dennis and the late Benjamin B. Stoltz.

Born on March 1, 1912 in Cherry Valley, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Ella (George) Brewer and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. Mrs. Stoltz was a resident of Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown from September 1993 until December 1998 when she moved to Brookmont.

She had worked at a hosiery mill in Stroudsburg, the Monroe Silk Mill in Stroudsburg, and then was an inspector for the former Ronson Corporation in Delaware Water Gap, until retiring in 1974 after 25 years of service.

She was a member of the former St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Mcllhaney.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Paynter of Brodheadsville; three granddaughters, Sharon Gilbert, Valarie Conto and Sandra Tubbs; three great grandsons, Jonathan Tubbs, Mary Gilbert, and Kevin Gilbert; and several nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 226 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301.
