Martha Brown, 64, of Mountainhome, died Monday, June 28, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late John H. Brown, who died in 1994.
She was born in Dundee, Scotland, the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Devlin) Gorrie.
Before her retirement, she was employed as a secretary for Wallace Tiernan Water Purification Company in Bellville, N.J.
Martha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Valerie Brown of Cresco; and two grandchildren, Cathy and Robert Brown, both of Cresco.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Gorrie of Jersey City, N.J.
The Reverend Canon Virginia Rex Day, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Mount Pocono, will conduct a funeral service at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 and 390 in Paradise Valley.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Cremation services will follow. Interment of cremains will be held on Friday, July 2, at the Arlington Cemetery in Kearney, N.J.

Daniel Hollman, age 78, of Kresgeville, died Monday, June 28, at Brookmont Health Care in Effort. He was the husband of Edith (Conklin) Hollman. They had been married 48 years.
Born in Hawthorne, N.J., he was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Laauwe) Hollman.
He had worked as a mechanic at Klepper's Auto Service in Hawthorne, until his retirement in 1983.
He was a United States Army Air Force veteran, having served during World War II.
He had attended Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. He was also a member and past commander of Post 240 in Prospect Park, N.J. He was a volunteer fireman for 45 years with the Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Company #1 & # 3.
In addition to his wife Edith, he is survived by one son, Daniel Paul Hollman of Kresgeville; two daughters , Joanne Fitzpatrick, wife of Robert, of Kresgeville and Jeanne Norton, wife of Matthew, of Stroudsburg; one sister, Jane Valentine, wife of Edward, of Hawthorne, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Kristi and Jason Fitzpatrick of Kresgeville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home Inc., Route 209, in Gilbert, with the Rev. Deborah Scheffey officiating. Interment will be in the Kresgeville Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the funeral home. American Legion services will be held at 8 p.m.

June 28, 1999
Charles W. Merritt, 52, of Stroudsburg, died on Monday, at his home. He was the husband of Ruth Wingert Merritt, at home.
Born on December 1, 1946 in Bristol, he was the son of the late John and Barbara Merritt.
He was the chef at Tom X Inn for six years, until earlier this year.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Brandi Merritt of Stroudsburg, and Summer Merritt, at home; and a sister, Patricia O'Malley of Lake Elnisore, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, from the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg. Burial will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the funeral home.

Master Sgt. Dwight A. Davey

Master Sgt. Dwight A. Davey, U.S.A.F., retired, age 73, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. expired on Monday, June 28, at the CV/Ph Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Endicott, N.Y. on December 31, 1925, the son of the late Leland C. and Isabelle (Treet) Davey Sr.
Sgt. Davey entered military service in March of 1943 and retired in March of 1974. He served in World War II,
Korean War, and Vietnam War in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Air and U.S. Air Force. Sgt. Davey earned 47 awards and decorations during his tour of duty.
Sgt. Davey was a lifetime member of the following groups: American Legion, Post #20 in Plattsburgh; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 125 in Plattsburgh; the American military Retired Association; the Retiree Enlisted Association; and the American military Society.
Sgt. Davey was the Superintendent of Roads and Grounds at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giant fan.
Our beloved Father and brother is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Vonnie and Gordon Wells of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; four sons and two daughters -in-law, Mark and Laurie Davey of Keeseville, N.Y., Thomas Davey and his companion, Roxanne Rutt of Stroudsburg, Ronald and Lynn Davey of Marshalls Creek, and Timothy Davey of Little River, S.C.; three daughters and two sons -in-law, Michele and Ray Sylvester of Long Pond, Deborah Dowd of Plattsburgh, and Nancy and Jim Stas of Bartonsville; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday evening, July 1, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #125 will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for services. A funeral service conducted by the family will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Alice M. Stenlake, 82, of 623 Blue Ridge Ave., Bangor, died Tuesday afternoon, June 29, at Easton Hospital in Wilson Borough, where she was a patient since Saturday. She was the widow of George C. Stenlake, who died in 1984.
Born January 1, 1917 in Washington Township, she was the daughter of the late C. Lester and Anna (Getz) Pysher.
She was a house wife.
Mrs. Stenlake was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Martins Creek. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Group in Martins Creek and a former member of the Blue Valley Garden Club in Bangor. Mrs. Stenlake enjoyed moulding and making ceramics.
She is survived by two sons , Charles F. Stenlake Sr., with whom she resided, and Larry G. Stenlake of Bangor; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers , Charles Pysher and Jay Pysher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at The Hough Home for Funerals Inc., 207 Market Street, Bangor. Interment will be in Flicksville Cemetery, Washington Township. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the funeral home.

Anthony F. Grasso

Anthony F. Grasso, 78, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. He was the husband of Anna N. (Messina) Grasso, at home.
Born on July 1, 1920 in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Munao) Grasso and had lived in the area most of his life. He had worked for Pocono Textile, the Ronson Corporation, and did construction on the Delaware Water Gap, Portland, and Lehighton bridges. He had also been a former Home Life insurance agent.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg, and the Italian Mutual Benefit Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Barry of Stroudsburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Barry of Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Grasso Jr. in 1959.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg, with Rev. Father Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the funeral home.

Earl E. Trappe Jr. 63, of Mount Pocono, died Monday, June 28, at home. He was the husband of Margaret (Bennick) Trappe.
He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Earl and Helen (Hetrick) Trappe. He graduated from Fountain Hill High School, and served in the United States Marine Corps.
Earl was employed as a real estate salesperson for Classic Design Homes in Pocono Summit, and a former ski instructor at Alpine Mountain Ski Area in Analomink and Camelback Ski Area in Tannersville.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Pierson Trappe, at home and Eric Clauss of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Susan Bennicas of Bethlehem; and two grandchildren, Anthony and Allie Bennicas of Bethlehem.
Rev. Doctor William Haussman of Lutheran Church of Our Saviors in Mount Pocono, will conduct a funeral service at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 and 390, in Paradise Valley.
There will be a viewing from 3 p.m. until the time of service, on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Adele Gravili, 99, of Stroudsburg died Sunday, June 27, at Laurel Manor Nursing Home in Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Arturo Gravili, who died in 1996.
Born in Austria, she was a resident of Stroudsburg for the past 3 years and prior to that, she lived in the Tobyhanna area for 20 years.
She was of the Catholic faith. She has no immediate survivors.
Graveside funeral services and entombment will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, in the Mountainview Mausoleum of Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Carmen Perry officiating.

Joseph M. McGovern
June 26, 1999
Joseph M. McGovern, 82, of Jojo Road, Bartonsville, died on Saturday at Stroud Manor, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Ruth B. (Bowman) McGovern at home.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 11, 1916, the son of the late Joseph M. and Anna McGovern.
He was a private airplane pilot and after no longer being able to fly, he enjoyed radio controlled aircraft.
Prior to his retirement in 1978, he worked as a quality control inspector for aircraft engines at Curtiss-Wright in Wood-Ridge, N.J., for 40 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 669.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Kathy Lambert of Henryville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Eugene McGovern; and two brothers , Charles "Chick" McGovern and Leo McGovern.
Friends and family are invited to attend graveside funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no viewing.

Velma E. Lambert

Velma E. Lambert, 85, of Old Franklin Hill Road, Lower Mount Bethel Township, died Saturday evening in Easton Nursing Center, where she was a guest since Feb. 19.
She was the widow of Harold "Bud" H. Lambert, who died on Oct. 2, 1979.
Born Dec. 23, 1913, in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Minnie (Weaver) Wickett.
Mrs. Lambert was employed as a seamstress by the former DaKay Fashions, Columbia, N.J., retiring in 1980. Prior to this she was employed by the former Floyd Gibbs Farm, Hope, N.J. She had also been employed by the former Sterling-Crown Silk Mill, Bangor.
She was a member of Mackey Memorial Baptist Church, Bangor, where she was a member of The Horace C. Wright Bible Class and a member of the former Ladies Fides Circle. Mrs. Lambert was a nursery and kindergarten Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years. She also had served on the Board of Christian Education at the church.
A member of the International L.adies Garment Workers Union, she enjoyed crocheting at home.
She is survived by five daughters , Shirley E. Demers of Columbia, N.J., Fay Cole Chambers of Bangor, Betty Goedeke of Galesburg, Ill., Irene M. Hothouse, with whom she had resided, and Gail Shook of East Bangor; one son, Barry H. Lambert of Stroudsburg; two sisters , Eleanor Chamberlain of Bangor and Charlotte Godshalk of Nazareth; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters , Janet Gouger and Pauline Lambert; and two grandchildren, Harold Gouger and Cari Ann Amadore; and one great-grandson, Robert Corbin, all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.. Wednesday from Mackey Memorial Baptist Church, Second and Chestnut streets, Bangor. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Portland.
