Kathryn N. Silkowski, 83, of Drums, died Wednesday, June 23, at Butler Valley Manor Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Stanley J. Silkowski who preceded her in death on October 27, 1970.
Born on July 5, 1915, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Kulick) Poboy.
She was a lifelong Shamokin area resident.
She attended St. Stanislaus School and Pulaski High School. She worked as a sewer for the Arrow Shirt Factory.
She was a member of mother Cabrini Church.
She is survived by four children, Joseph of Stroudsburg, Judith Ann Straub of Carlisle, Donald of Green Castle, and Leroy of Oak Dale, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers , Al and Joseph, and two sisters , Bertha and Mary.
Funeral will be held Saturday, June 26, 10 a.m., at mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin. Burial will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Coal Township.
A viewing will be held Friday, June 25, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, June 26, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. A Christian Vigil Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Margaret W. Hemhauser

Margaret W. Hemhauser, 67, of Stroud Township, died on Friday, June 25, at home. She was the wife of Robert H. Hemhauser.
She was born on July 24, 1931 in Newark, N.J., the daughter of the late Margaret (Walker) and Richard Wogisch. She moved here with her family in 1975.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg, where she had been a trustee and a member of the Prayer Group Circle. She graduated from Columbia High School in South Orange, N.J. and devoted her life to her husband and family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Stephen R. Hemhauser and Robert S. Hemhauser, both of Stroud Township; three grandchildren, Matthew Hemhauser, Megan Hemhauser, and Samuel Hemhauser; two brothers , Richard Wogisch of Cape Cod, Mass., and William Wogisch of Colts Neck, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Foster.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27, in the First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg, with Rev. George Taylor and Rev. Carol S. Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a visitation from noon until the time of service on Sunday, at the church.

Frederick A. Rufe

Frederick A. Rufe, 77, of Stroudsburg, died in the Eastwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Easton.
Born on Feb. 21, 1922, in Easton, he was a son of the late George and Clara (Outwater) Rufe and had lived in Stroudsburg for the past 10 years, having moved here from New York City.
He was a graduate of Chestnut Hill High School, East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University) and Cornell University.
Mr. Rufe worked for Restaurant Associates.
He also managed the Newarker gourmet restaurant at Newark Airport and The Hawaiian Room, a Polynesian restaurant in the Hotel Lexington in New York City; helped open the Four Seasons Restaurant; and managed the Tavern on the Green restaurant in Manhattan.
In addition, he supervised the food service at Pan Am, TWA and National Airlines terminals, at JFK Airport, and the food and beverage facilities at the Bangor Airport in Maine, Baltimore Airport, and ABE Airport in Allentown.
While at JFK Airport, Mr. Rufe also supervised the food and beverage facilities of 26 bars, cafes and fast-food operations at the International Arrivals Building which housed the popular Roof Top Gourmet Restaurant.
Later on, Mr. Rufe became vice president of Marriott's Specialty Restaurant division which included the Marriott Dinner Houses named Joshua Tree, Phineas Prime Rib, and the Franklin Stove, suburban restaurants in the Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, Pittsburgh and Connecticut areas.
He then left Marriott to become director of Food and Beverage Planning and Development for Hilton International with his office in the Waldorff Astoria in New York City, where he was responsible for the food and beverage strategy for 90 hotels in 45 countries.
After retiring 10 years ago, Mr. Rufe operated Frederick A. Rufe Associates, a consulting firm for those involved in the food and beverage industry.
He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Stroudsburg; J. Simpson Africa Lodge F & AM in Stroudsburg (for 50 years); Advisory Boards of Hospitality Industry International of London; Food Service Yearbook International; Corporation of the Culinary Institute of America; International Forum of Corporate Hotels Food and Beverage Executives; Food and Beverage Forum; Cornell Society of Hotel Men; and Cayuga Hospitality Advisors.
Mr. Rufe was a United States Army veteran who served in World War II in the 78th Division in the European Theater.
Surviving are a brother, Francis W. Rufe, of Phillipsburg, N.J.; a nephew, Rodney Rufe, of Mount Bethel; two nieces, Joy Samson of Bethlehem Township and Sharon Finnerty of New Monmouth, N.J.; two grand nieces, Carey Rufe and Meghan Finnerty; and one grand nephew, Mark Rufe.
Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Gail H. Kees officiating.

Warren E. Roberts, 76, of Bangor, died Friday, June 25, at Muhlenberg Hospital, Bethlehem.
Born in Pen Argyl, Sept. 2, 1922, he was the son of the late James and Pearl Parsons Roberts.
Before retiring, he was employed as a truck driver for Chemical Leaman Tank Lines Inc., Stockertown.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Campaign.
He was a member of the Charles Nelson Lobb Post 502 of the American Legion, Pen Argyl. He was a life member of the Easton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
His wife, Annie S., died Aug. 10, 1996.
He is survived by two daughters , Beverly A. Hann of Bath and Wanda J. of Bangor; one son, James W. of Saylorsburg; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
A grandson, Michael, and a sister, Muriel H. Klinger, died earlier.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.

Joan L. Leader, 67, of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of William O. Leader of East Stroudsburg.
Born on March 14, 1932, in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Miller) Rogers.
She worked in the cafeteria in the East Stroudsburg School District for 27 years, until retirement in 1994.
She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and was a volunteer at the church office. She was also a member of the Dorcas Fellowship.
She also worked at the church's Vacation Bible School in the summer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters , Laurie Klingel of East Stroudsburg and Beth Stout of Wernersville; four grandchildren; and two brothers , Paul Rogers and William Rogers, both of East Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home. A viewing will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. The Rev. Raymond Poortstra will officiate.

Wanda Kay Butz, 39, of Jackson Township, died Saturday at home. She was the wife of Roger A. Butz.
Born on Feb. 3, 1960, in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Evelyn B. (Taylor) Smith of East Stroudsburg and the late Charles E. Strunk and had lived in the area since 1983, moving here from Catasauqua.
A graduate of Catasauqua High School, she was a member of the George N. Kemp Post 346 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, East Stroudsburg, where she was past unit president and had held several other offices.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by a daughter, Sarah Sickonic of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters , Barbara Cimei of East Stroudsburg and Alice Manhart of Marshalls Creek; a brother, Charles E. Strunk Jr. of Havelock, N.C.; three stepbrothers, Byron Daniel Smith III, Wayne Smith and Clayton Smith, all of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a stepsister, Valerie Jacobson of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepfather who raised her, Byron D. Smith Jr. in 1996, and by a sister, Carol Wenner in 1998.
Cremation will be in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, with graveside services and burial at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kellers Cherry Valley Cemetery, Hamilton Township.
A viewing will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with American Legion Auxiliary services at 8 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home.

John "Jay" Sidlosky
June 25, 1999
John "Jay" Sidlosky, 84, of Canadensis, died Friday evening in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Dolores "Dody" (VanBuskirk) Sidlosky at home.
Born on May 14, 1915, in Peckville, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Bucknavich) Sidlosky and had lived in Barrett Township most of his life. He had worked in maintenance at Skytop for 35 years, retiring in 1980.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of the Evans Blitz Post 922 American Legion, Canadensis, and the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2940 Veternas of Foreign Wars, East Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ruth Cramer, wife of Larry of Candensis; two sisters , Margie Ballock and Helen Jack, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers , Joseph Sidol of Cleveland and William Sidol of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Bergen, and two brothers , Edward Sidlasky and Frank Sidlosky.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be in the H.G. Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Violet Hennion

Violet Hennion, 62, of Sciota, died on Sunday in her home. She was the wife of the late Gernard "Gernie" Hennion, who died on Aug. 22, 1998.
Born on Sept. 11, 1936, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Grace (Albertson) Boretti of East Stroudsburg and the late Wilbur Possinger and had lived in Monroe County all of her life.
She had worked as a sewing machine operator at LaMar Fashions in Sciota, retiring three years ago and had recently worked as a cashier at the BP Gas Station in Sciota.
She was a member of the Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, Hamilton Square, was a 35-year member of the Monroe County Women's Bowling Association and was an avid bingo player.
In addition to her mother , she is survived by a son, Stewart G. Hennion of Sciota; three daughters , FayAnn Knecht of Sciota, Antoinetta "Toni" Metzgar of Brodheadsville and Angel DeNino of Sciota; three grandsons; five granddaughters; one great-grandson; three brothers , Robert Possinger of East Stroudsburg, William Rowlands Jr. of Spruce Creek, N.C., and Thomas Rowlands of Pottstown; two sisters , Maryann Adams and Debbie Block, both of East Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Hennion, and a sister, Diane Counterman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, in Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph A. Boyer IV and Fred Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Hamilton Township.
A viewing will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the Covenant House of the church.

Adam Charles Becker

Adam Charles Becker, 73, of Mount Pocono, died Saturday at Stroud Manor Nursing Home, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Molter) Becker of Mount Pocono.
Born on July 8, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Adam and Anna (Schussler) Becker. He has been a resident of Monroe County since 1982.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He worked for the Long Island Railroad as a conductor for 20 years until retirement.
He was a member of the Pocono Masonic Lodge 780 in Cresco.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Steven Becker of Stroudsburg and Kenneth Becker of East Meadow, Long Island, N.Y.; and two daughters , Kathleen LaGuardia and Barbara Becker, both of Lindenhurst, Long Island, N.Y.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Cremation will take place at the Arlington Crematory in White Hall Township.
