Luther W. Rehrig Sr.

Luther W. Rehrig Sr., 76 of Gilbert, died Thursday in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was the husband of Grace (Kresge) Rehrig. They had observed their 51st wedding anniversary in August of 1998.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late William and Salome (Hagenbuch) Rehrig.
He had been a mechanical draftsman at Patterson Kelly in Stroudsburg for 8 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he had worked at Dixie Cup in Easton for 20 years.
He was a WW II Army veteran serving with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the VFW Post 256 in Lehighton. He was also a long time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and he was a life member of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Co. in Kresgeville.
He was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Trachsville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Luther Rehrig Jr. of Harrisburg and by three grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 19, from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Becky Beckwith officiating. Burial will be in Trachsville Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Verna Wisler, 83, of Quakertown, died Thursday, April 15, in her home. She was the wife of the late John W. Wisler.
Born in Trumbauersville, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Trumbauer) Keck.
She was the manager of the Quakertown Community High School Cafeteria before retiring.
She was a former volunteer at Quakertown Community Hospital.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Trumbauersville where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Church's W.E.L.C.A.
She is survived by a son, John "Jack" Wisler of Stroudsburg; a daughter, Anne Straume of Charlottesville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the C.R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 821 W. Broad Street, Quakertown. Call, Saturday, 10-10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be in Christ Union Cemetery in Trumbauersville.

Olga G. Garner, 73, of Saylorsburg died Thursday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Donald B. Garner, at home.
Born on September 15, 1925, in Homestead, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Theresa Gergely and had lived in the area for the past ten years moving here from Bloomfield, N.J. She was a retired registered nurse having worked at the Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, N.J., Job Haines Nursing Home in Bloomfield, N.J., and the Cherry Nursing Home in Montclair, N.J.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, John Garner of Stroudsburg, Michael Garner of Saylorsburg, and Kathryn Garner of Bloomfield, N.J.; a sister, Ethel Barry of Succasunna, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Evelyn M. Triano (Treon), 76, of Paradise Township, died Wednesday, April 14, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of William D. Triano with whom she was married for 58 years.
Born in Paradise Twp., she was the daughter of the late David and Louisa (Drey) Dunlap. She was a life-long resident of the Paradise area and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville. She owned the Paradise Construction Company of Paradise from 1967 until 1995 when she retired.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by two sons , William D. Triano and James D. Triano, both of Swiftwater; three sisters , Joan Hardenstine of Reeders, Carol Burger of Henryville, and Dorothy Kunkle of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers , David Dunlap of Stroudsburg, Preston (Jake) Dunlap of East Stroudsburg, and Albert Dunlap of Jonas; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Triano who died in 1994.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville, with the Rev. Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven section of Laurelwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the funeral home.
A prayer service will be conducted on Friday, April 16, at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edward A. Walinchus

Dr. Edward Walinchus of Springfield died April 10, 1999 of complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
A dentist in Springfield for 35 years, Dr. Walinchus served his country in World War II as a member of the OSS and was in charge of security duties in France. While on duty in Europe he met and married his British war bride of 56 years, Margaret.
Upon arriving home after the war, Dr. Walinchus began to study dentistry, graduating from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1951. While in school he was senior class president as well as coach of the Temple University Pharmacy basketball team.
He served his community of Springfield from the outset of his graduation in 1951, working part time to build a practice while on the full time faculty at Temple University School of Dentistry. In the middle 1950's he left the Temple University faculty, concentrating full time on his practice.
In the early 1980's he went back to Temple as a part time instructor at the dental school while maintaining a full time practice and actively participated in the dental education of his son, Robert. During his years at Temple he developed several techniques in the field of dental radiology. Included was the development of a specific device that reduced patient radiation while taking dental x-rays.
Dr. Walinchus was a lifetime member of The American Dental Association. He retired from active practice in 1985, leaving those duties to his son and began to concentrate on other humanitarian efforts. These included the Special Olympics and the American Cancer Society. In late 1993, he was stricken with Alzheimer's disease and lived at Manor Care Nursing Home until his death.
In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by four children, Michaelene M. Fox of Exton; Jane Schneider of Winnettka, Ill.; Mary Ryan of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and Robert E. Walinchus, D.M.D. of Springfield; and 12 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass for Dr. Walinchus, was celebrated Thursday, April 15, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Springfield. His burial took place at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple. Arrangements were made by O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 East Springfield Road, Springfield.

Mrs. Ruth H. Vanderhoof, age 61, a resident of Blakeslee, Monroe County, died suddenly Wednesday, April 14, 1999, while shopping. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
Mrs. Vanderhoof was born in Blairsville, the daughter of Ralph and Grace Long Harkins, both of Blakeslee, and was a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in North Chili, N.Y. She had earned a master's degree in English at the State University of New York, Oneida, N.Y., and had been a teacher for many years. Mrs. Vanderhoof had taught at schools in Harrodsburg, Kentucky; Walton, N.Y.; and at Wallenpaupack Area High School, Hawley, retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Beaumont Free Methodist Church, Buck Township, Luzerne County, where her husband of more than thirty nine years, the Rev. Donald Vanderhoof, is pastor. She had also been a member of several professional teacher's organizations and had assisted her husband throughout his ministry in several capacities.
Surviving in addition to her parents and husband, are: a son, Douglas Vanderhoof of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Dawn) Edwards of Ontario, N.Y.; two brothers , William Harkins of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Glenn Harkins of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters , Mrs. Joyce Heimberger of North Chili, N.Y., and Mrs. Frances Madey of Clune, Pa.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Free Methodist Church, South Canaan, with the Rev. Richard Gabriel, retired Free Methodist pastor and Bob Evans, lay pastor, Beaumont Free Methodist Church, Buck Township, officiating. Interment will be in Simon Cemetery, South Canaan. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, at the H. Patricia Ann Shattuck, 67, of Tannersville, died Friday evening, April 16, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born on Aug. 29, 1931, in Gorham, N.H., she was the daughter of the late James and Erma (Lehman) Thompson and had lived in the area since 1977, moving here from Bath. She had worked as a waitress at the 76 Truck Stop in Bartonsville and Billy's Diner in Tannersville.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Evans of Tannersville; three sons , Paul Shattuck of Bartonsville, Ricky Shattuck of Columbia, N.J., and Mark Shattuck of Tannersville; three sisters , Eileen Emerson and Mary Jacques, both of Falls Church, Va., and Edna Wolfe of Bath; a brother, Royden Thompson of Berlin, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg.

Charles J. Ryan Jr., 48, of Ross Township, died on Friday, April 16, at his home.
He was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on June 28, 1950, a son of Anne S. Siluk Ryan and the late Charles J. Sr. of Edgewater, Florida. He was of Catholic faith.
He was a truck driver over the road for many area firms. He was a graduate of Essex Catholic School in Newark, N.J., and also attended Oklahoma State University.
In addition to his mother , he is survived by one son, Timothy Ryan of Waynesville, N.C.; one daughter, Erin Ryan of Waynesville, N.C.; one brother, John J. Ryan of Stroudsburg; one sister, Kathleen McGuire of Montclair, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial funeral services will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North 9th St., Stroudsburg, with Reverend Father Carmen J. Perry officiating. There will be no viewing.

Gizella R. Sawka, 75, of Hummelstown, formerly of Palmerton and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died on Saturday, April 17, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. She was the wife of the late Michael Sawka.
Born on March 12, 1924 in Palmerton, she was the daughter of the late Frank Vlossak Sr. and Helen Machalec.
She was a homemaker and was previously employed at her Father 's Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Palmerton. She was more recently employed as a secretary at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.
She attended Moore College in Philadelphia and Hunter College in New York City.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Palmerton and most recently attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Hershey.
She is survived by two daughters , Leslie Hildrew with whom she lived, and Mary Ellen Yaeger of Bangor; one son, Michael N. Sawka of Franklin, Mass.; one brother, Frank Vlossak, Jr. of Palmerton; two sisters , Irene Scherer of Palmerton, and Helen Suran of Camp Hill; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hershey. The memorial service will began immediately after visitation with Rev. Frederick M. Miller officiating. The burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tues., April 20, at St. Vladamirs Lower Cemetery in Palmerton.

Edwin A. Weber

Edwin A. Weber, 85, of Pocono Pines, died Saturday, April 17, at Pocono Medical Center. He was the husband of Ruth (Fischer) Weber.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late August and Francis (Bough) Weber and graduated from St. John Prep in Brooklyn.
Until his retirement, Mr. Weber was employed by Weber Dance Studio and was a manager for the Fischer Baking Co. He also was employed as an inventory clerk for the Ocean Township School System.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church of Pocono Pines and the Pocono Mountain Lions Club. He was a World War II Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons , Richard J Weber of Neptune, N.J., Ronald Weber of Vincetown, N.J., and Roger Weber of Grand Caman Islands; two daughters , Rosemary Smith of Downingtown and Ruthann Rutledge of Howell, N.J.; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Zea of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Father John Boyle will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Pocono Pines. Interment will follow at Pocono Lake Cemetery.
There will be a viewing on Monday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
