Robert J. Ruth

March 29, 1999

Robert J. Ruth, 84, of East Stroudsburg and formerly of Harrisburg, died Monday, March 29, at St. Rose Home in New York City.

He had been employed at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, retiring after 41 years.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Lydia Anne Ruth of Hartsdale, N.Y., and a son-in-law, Norman E. Gaines Jr. also of Hartsdale, N.Y.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 2, 11 a.m. at the Rolling Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of St. John the Baptist, 210 W. 31st Street, New York, NY 10001.

Martin K. Vogt

March 30, 1999

Martin K. Vogt, 80, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday in Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock Township, Wyoming County. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Treible) Vogt who died in 1986.

Born on May 17, 1918 in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Fish) Vogt and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked on the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad as a fireman and more recently was a self-employed painter.

He is survived by a daughter, Catherine "Kay" Lee of Stroudsburg; a son, Martin C. Vogt of Owego, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Mahlon Lee Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Tobey Vogt of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Marissa Vogt of Waverly, N.Y.; a great grandson, Tyler Lee of East Stroudsburg; a brother, David Paul Vogt of Ottertail, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patricia Lee in 1989.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Raymond P. Poortstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

There will be a visitation on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

March 31, 1999

Maida E. Dietrich, 89, formerly of Pen Argyl, and Chandler Estates, Wind Gap, died Wednesday, March 31, in Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington Township.

Born October 9, 1909 in Bangor, she was the daughter of the late Richard H. and Edith H. Hewitt Dawe.

She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Pen Argyl.

She was a 1927 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and a 1931 graduate of Fredonia State College, Fredonia, N.Y.

She was a music instructor at Williamsville School District, Williamsville, N.Y.

She was the wife of the late Harvey G. Dietrich who died August 28, 1979.

She is survived by a son, James G. Dietrich Sr., husband of Janet, of Pen Argyl; three grandsons, David S., Richard G., and James G Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Ryan and Michael.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m., at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial donations be offered to Faith United Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 307, Pen Argyl, PA 18072 or to Slate Belt Nursing and Rehab Center, Slate Belt Blvd., Bangor, PA 18013.

Thomas D. Bridgman

April 1, 1999

Thomas D. Bridgman, 51, of RR 7, Saylorsburg, died Thursday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

He was the husband of Rosalie (Churilla) Bridgman. They would have observed their 31st wedding anniversary late this month.

Born in Chicago, Ill., he was a son of the late Harold David and Milburge (Mack) Bridgman.

He had been an independent contractor for the past 30 years. He had also delivered newspapers for the Express Times in the Saylorsburg area.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Thomas Bridgman II in Texas and Ricky Bridgman in Kentucky; a brother, Paul Bridgman of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. William McCawley officiating. Following the service there will be a viewing until 6 p.m.

Katherine B. Woodling

March 31, 1999

Katherine B. Woodling, 90, of Collegeville, died on Wednesday, March 31, at the Frederick Mennonite Community Nursing Home in Frederick.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, the daughter of Clarence M. and Lillian (Wheatcroft) Woodling. She was a resident of Collegeville for 58 years. Prior to that, of East Stroudsburg. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Collegeville.

Prior to her retirement in 1974, she was a teacher with the Collegeville School system for 34 years. She was a graduate of Springfield Township High School; a graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College; and a graduate of Penn State University with a masters in education.

She was a member of the Monroe County Retired Teachers Association; a member of the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Association; and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by two nephews, Dennis Woodling of Columbia, Md., and David Woodling of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 5, 1:30 p.m., at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Martha Krieble officiating.

Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.

Dorothy J. Bond

April 2, 1999

Dorothy J. Bond, 69, of Appenzell, died Friday in the Brookmont Health Center, Effort. She was the wife of William C. Bond. They observed their 43rd wedding anniversary in December 1998.

Born in Effort, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Matilda (Kresge) Feller.

She and her husband owned and operated Bond's Mountain Brook Dairy Farm in Appenzell for the past 43 years.

She was a member of St. Mark's Community Lutheran Church in Appenzell.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Monroe Chapter #99 in Stroudsburg and the Mineola Grange in Brodheadsville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons , Robert, William Jr. and Barry Bond, all at home; a daughter, Jane Deiter of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Mildred Knecht of Effort; a niece and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Harry Laubach officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Appenzell.

A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, until the time of the service. The Eastern Star will hold a service on Monday just prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Animals in Distress, P.O. Box 168, Catasauqua, Pa. 18032 or to the American Cancer Society, RR2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

April 1, 1999

William T. Jones, 75, of Schnecksville, Lehigh County, died on Thursday, April 1, in Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township. He formerly resided in Saylorsburg, Monroe County.

Born on March 19, 1924 in Wind Gap, he was the son of the late William T. Jones, Sr. and Lulu Hendershot Jones.

He was employed as a commercial salesman with PP&L in Allentown for 20 years, retiring in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a member of VFW Post 5588, Kunkletown, and was past post commander of American Legion Post 927, Gilbert.

He is survived by one son, Gary Jones of Stroudsburg; two sisters , Patricia Lutz of Bethlehem and Sylvia Brower of Easton; two brothers , Jon Jones of San Dimas, Calif. and Barry Jones of Walnutport; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy Jones and two brothers , Wayne and Robert Jones.

military funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, from the George G. Bensing Funeral Home, Moorestown - 2165 Community Drive, Bath. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Moore Township.

Viewing hours will be from 10 a.m. to time of services on Tuesday in the funeral home.

Gaylord "Hebby" Heberling

April 3, 1999

Gaylord W. "Hebby" Heberling, age, 70, of Stroudsburg died Saturday at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Mary L. (Zacharias) Heberling, at home.

Born in Gouldsboro, son of the late Elbert and Helene Heberling, he had resided in Stroudsburg for 45 years and prior to that in Greentown, Pike County.

Gaylord retired in 1991 as a custodian with the Stroudsburg School District. He had previously been a patrolman for the Stroudsburg Police Department for 15 years. He also had been employed at the Sears in Stroudsburg and the Fred Focke Construction Company.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Gaylord was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the FOE Arie #1106, Stroudsburg, and a life member of the North American Hunting Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Karen L. Oney of Stroudsburg and Barbara A. Heberling of Saylorsburg; two sons William C. and Kevin A., both of Greentown; a sister Betty J. Michelin of Stroudsburg; three brothers , Breslo of Waymart, Douglas of Promised Land, and David of South Sterling; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7 in the Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, Route 191, LaAnna with Rev. Thomas Anderman, Stroudsburg Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Greentown Cemetery, Greentown. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 547 Main Street, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

April 5, 1999

Cora R. Muffley, 82, of Stroudsburg, died on Monday, April 5, at the Pleasant Valley Manor. She was the wife of the late Stanley A. Muffley, who died in 1993.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Counterman) Smith. She had been a life long resident of Monroe County. She was of the Methodist Faith.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Hughes Printing Company of East Stroudsburg in the Bindery Department for 30 years.

She is survived by two daughters , Shirley VanLuvender of East Stroudsburg and Patricia Gilliand of Stroudsburg; three sons : Albert H. Muffley, Larry Muffley, and Clayton Muffley, all of East Stroudsburg; a brother, Charles Smith Jr. of Stroudsburg; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons , Stanley Muffley Jr. and Robert Muffley.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Reverend Raymond Poortstra officiating.

Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

April 5, 1999

Robert M. Richards, 62, of Stroudsburg died Monday, April 5, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Carolyn A. (Bitterman) Richards at home.

Born in Hempstead, Long Island, he was the son of Elinor (Smith) Richards of Stroudsburg and the late Robert M. Richards. He was a life long resident of the Stroudsburg area where he owned and operated the Robert M. Richards Co. Inc. of Stroudsburg for many years.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church of Bartonsville where he was a former Trustee. He was also a member of the National Guard Company C., East Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife and mother , he is survived by two sons , Andrew M. Richards of Stroudsburg and Samuel L. Richards of East. Stroudsburg; two daughters , Jennifer Cates of Kingman, Indiana and Gretchen Slack of Punta Gorda, Florida; two sisters , Jennifer Palazzola of East Stroudsburg and Nancy Snyder of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, from the St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church in Bartonsville, with the Reverend James E. Griel officiating.

Interment will be in the Custards Cemetery in Bartonsville at the convenience of the family.
