Charles E. Howard

March 17,1999

Charles E. Howard, 63, of Pocono Lake, died suddenly at home on March 17.

Formerly a resident of Willow Grove, he worked for SEPTA (South Eastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) in Philadelphia for over 25 years. Also, a veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

He gave endless volunteer hours for a community he deeply loved. He attended Mount Pocono United Methodist Church for the last two years. Also, he was a member of the American Legion for the past eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche (Tudor) Howard, at home; mother , Gertrude (Gwalthney) Howard of Missouri; one brother, Richard Howard of Missouri; three sons , Charles Howard of N.J., Joseph Dude of N.Y., and William Dude of Pa.; two daughters , Kimberly Tarrington and Georgette Washell, both of Pa.; three grandchildren, Joshua Tarrington, Rebecca and Zachary Washell; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Father , Edwin.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, at Mount Pocono United Methodist Church, Route 611 and Church Avenue, Mount Pocono. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp. or the Thornhurst Volunteer Ambulance Corp., HC 1, Box 129, Thornhurst, PA 18424.

March 19, 1999

Mary J. "Mollie" McCormick Flick, 66, of Stroudsburg, died on Friday at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill. She was the wife of Robert Flick, at home.

Born in Parsons, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Horowicz. She was a member of St. Luke's Church in Stroudsburg.

Having lived most of her lifetime in Stroudsburg, she was employed by Bell Telephone; as a secretary at Hamilton Elementary School; at the Snack Bar at Wyckoff's and Routzahn's; at the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge; and most recently, I. Sommers Narrow Tape Mill.

She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Luke's Church, Stroudsburg; F.O.P. Stroud Lodge #75; American-Polish Club of Parsons; and the Monroe County Republican Women Committee. She was a former member of the Stroudsburg Football Mothers; a past president of the Stroudsburg Little League Auxiliary; and a former committeewoman for Stroud Township.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons , Albert R. McCormick, Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Brian McCormick of Snydersville and Stephen S. McCormick of East Stroudsburg; two step-sons , Donald Flick of Albrightsville and the Rev. Clifford Flick of New Holland; a step-daughter, Teresa Gretto of Effort; two grandsons, Dustin McCormick and Trevor McCormick, both of East Stroudsburg; five sisters , Vicky Wasley of Wilkes-Barre, Jennie Martini of Old Forge, Toni Lusack and Josephine Harowicz, both of New Jersey, and Blanche Wychock of Mountaintop; three brothers , Theodore Harowicz and John Harowicz, both of Parsons and Frank Harowicz of Seattle Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at St. Luke's Church, 828 Main St., Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, at the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth St., Stroudsburg.

Memorial donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, R.D. #2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

Shirley M. Goldman

March 19, 1999

Shirley M. Goldman, 73, of Tobyhanna, died Friday, March 19, at home. She was the wife of Milton Goldman, with whom she recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Ruben and Ida Binder, and graduated from Stuyvesent High School.

Before her retirement to the Poconos, she was an assistant office manager for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a member of the AARP Band, the Bukowiner BBA, and the Temple Israel. She also served on the local Board of Elections and taught mahjong.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Richard Goldman of West Virginia and David Goldman of Syracuse, N. Y.; a daughter, Sharon Kodweis and husband Jim of Rochester, N. Y.; a brother, Harold Binder and wife Corinne of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Linda Fisher of Moravia, N. Y.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Fisher; a brother, George Binder; and a sister, Rose Rosenblatt.

Rabbi Sheldon Davis will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 22, at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Rts 940 and 390, Paradise Valley. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island, N.Y. with Rabbi Phil Goldberg officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Temple Israel, P.O. Box 368, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

March 18, 1999

Gail Ann Fordham, 63, of Tannersville, died on Thursday, March 18, at the home of her son, James K. Fordham, in Bath. She was the wife of the late James C. Fordham.

She was born in Mishawaka, Indiana; the daughter of the late Clyde and Ethel (Seward) Challender. She had been a resident of Monroe County for the past seven years and prior to that of Northampton County.

She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Oskam of Kunkletown; three sons , Mark A. Fordham of Oceanside, Calif., Michael A. Fordham of Canadensis, and James K. Fordham of Bath; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg with the Rev. Carol Brown officiating.

Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Portland. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 22, at the funeral home.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lehigh Valley Hospice, 5003 Route 611, Stroudsburg, Pa.

March 19, 1999

Maude M. Keiper, 88, Pocono Lake, died on Friday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. She was the wife of the late Harvey Keiper, who died in 1984.

Born in Pocono Lake, she was the daughter of the late Cleve and May (Heller) Keenhold. She was a lifelong resident of Pocono Lake.

She was an active member of the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church, she was the church pianist/organist for 56 years, taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, was on the Official Board, Church Historian and a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was a member of the Monroe County Historical Society, Christian Women's Club of Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountains Womens Club and Monroe County Bible Club.

She is survived by a son, Gerald W. Keiper, Pocono Lake; a daughter, Eudora Hilliard, Bartonsville; three sisters , Marie Woehrle, Pocono Lake, Rhoda ter Meulen, Pocono Pines, and Alice Malachowski, Pocono Summit; a brother, George Keenhold, Effort; five granddaughters, Janice Kochera, Linda Christensen, Julie Slutter, Denise Gray and Kathryn Knecht; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Keiper; a grandson, Lance Hilliard; a sister, Faith Argot; and three brothers , Woodrow Keenhold, Claude Keenhold and Albert Heller.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. from the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Blaik Westoff officiating. Burial will be in the Pocono Lake Cemetery.

There will be a viewing on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg.

Emma H. Singer

March 20, 1999

Emma H. Singer, 96, of Allentown, formerly of Tannersville, died Saturday, March 20, in the Phoebe-Devitt Home, where she was a resident.

Born in Tannersville, she was the daughter of the late Steward and Susanna (Kresge) Singer. She was a lifelong resident of the Tannersville area, except for the past 10 years, during which she lived in the Allentown area.

In her early years, she taught school at the Tannersville Elementary School and later was employed at the former Wyckoff's Department Store in Stroudsburg for many years. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ of Tannersville.

She is survived by a nephew, Robert S. Singer, and a niece, Doris Walsh, both of Deptford, N.J.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, from the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home with the Rev. Nevin Kershner officiating. Burial will be in the Tannersville Union Cemetery in Tannersville.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Phoebe-Devitt Home, 1925 Turner St., Allentown, PA 18104.

Harold C. Cramer

March 21, 1999

Harold C. Cramer, 71, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday, March 21, at his home. He was the husband of Sophie (Sibum) Cramer.

He was born in Analomink, a son of the late Horace and Hattie (Shick) Cramer. He was a resident of Monroe County all of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by G.H. Litts and Son as a construction and excavating foreman for 36 years. He was a former member of the VFW in Stroudsburg; former member of the Eagles Club in Stroudsburg; and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, Sophie, at home, he is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Hoke of East Stroudsburg; a son, Kevin M. Cramer and a daughter in law, Barbara Cramer of East Stroudsburg; two grandchildren, Shannon Cramer and Eric Cramer of East Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers , Paul Cramer and Elwood Cramer; and a sister, Grace Meyer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Robert Schrom officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the memorial service.

Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg. Burial will be at a later date in Cherry Lane Cemetery.

Helen Tygert Reese

February 28, 1999

Helen Tygert Reese, 87, departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 28, 1999 in Franklin, Pa.

She was born May 1, 1911, in Philadelphia, to Earl and Ada (Slack) Tygert.

She was a school teacher for 28 years in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania as well as assisting her husband as a florist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherry Reese; a brother, Earl F. Tygert, who was a missionary from Japan; and a granddaughter, Kristi Lee Sageser.

Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Dawn Reese of Alachua, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jerry Sageser of Cynthiana; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Emogene Tygert; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

The memorial service was officiated by grandsons, Bill Mager and Freddie Mager and nephew, Pastor Tim Tygert. A poem, written by granddaughter Shelly Mager was read, and favorite songs were sung by Missy Mager.

Huff Chapel of West Park, in Franklin, was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in Winter Haven, Fla.

Joseph H. Martin

March 18, 1999

Joseph J. Martin, Sr., 85, formerly of Stroudsburg, died Thursday, March 18, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Pauline D. (Neubauer) Martin, who died in 1992.

Born on August 31, 1913 in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry and Bridget (Gorman) Martin.

He lived in the area since 1991, moving here from Nassau, Long Island, N.Y. He had worked as a railroad conductor for 34 years at the Port Authority in New York City, before retiring in 1974.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg; the Senior Singles Club in Stroudsburg; and had been a volunteer at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

He is survived by a son Joseph Martin, Jr., husband of Leta of Bartonsville; five grandchildren, Eileen Martin of Blairstown, N.J., Sharon Gower of Effort, Lorraine Martin of Stroudsburg, and Craig Martin and Michael Martin, both of Bartonsville; a great grandson, Benjamin Gower of Effort; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Father Thomas McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, Bartonsville.

Robert E. Mundy

March 20, 1999

Robert E. Mundy, 74, of East Stroudsburg, formerly of Mount Pocono and Warren N.J., died on Saturday, March 20, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He was a resident of the North East Veterans Center in Scranton, since June 1998. He was the husband of Dolores L. Tatum Mundy; they were married for 51 years.

He was born in Elizabeth, N.J. and spend his early years in North Plainfield, N.J. Before his retirement in 1979, he worked as an iron worker at various locations. He spend the last seven years of his profession at K Steel in Rahway, N.J.

He was a past master at the Jerusalem Lodge No. 26, F. & A.M., Plainfield, N.J.; a past patron at the Rosebud Chapter No. 259, O.E.S., Dunellen, N.J.; a past commander of the American Legion Post No. 261, Piscataway, N.J.; a member of the Washington Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Warren N.J.; and a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Union, Local 399, Camden, N.J.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, in European Theatre and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.

In addition to his wife, Dolores, he is survived by a son, Warren G. Mundy of Lake Euphaula, Okla.; a daughter, Leigh Ann Mundy of East Stroudsburg; two sisters , Doris Alloncius of Clearwater, Fla., and Jean Kulesza of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.; and four granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Mundy, Jr., in 1987, and a brother, Martin Mundy, in 1990.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at The Mundy Funeral Home, 142 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, N.J. The burial will be at Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway, N.J. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.
