Alice "Maxine" Martin, 76, of Monroe County, passed away on Tuesday morning at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was married in 1944 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late George F. Martin.
Born in Olney, Texas , on April 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Alice (Walker) Stephens. She had been a resident of Monroe County since 1945.
Maxine was a long time member of the Reeders United Methodist Church and was active in Sunday School and Bible Study. She was also a member of the Pocono Garden Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Margie Ewald of Belle Rive, Illinois; two sons , Fred Martin of Reeders and Terry Martin of Paradise Valley; three granddaughters; and two grandsons.
She is also survived by four sisters : Jean Tighe of Dunmore; Margie Botkins of Onley, Texas ; Joyce Stephens of Arlington, Texas ; and Eva Garrett of McAlester, Oklahoma ; three brothers : Grady Stephens Jr. and Brandon Stephens, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma ; and Jerry Stephens of Keller, Texas . She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Stephens.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19 at 11 a.m. from the Reeders United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald H. Stott officiating. Burial will be in the Reeders United Methodist Cemetery.
There will be a viewing on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home, 301 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Reeders United Methodist Church, Building Fund, Box 187, Reeders, PA 18352.

Madalyn M. Schafer, 76, of Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday, March 10, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Landis F. Schafer, who died February 28, 1994. They had been married 53 years.
She was born in Pocono Summit, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Rodgers) Patruno. She had been a lifetime resident of Monroe County. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tannersville.
Prior to her retirement in 1988, she was employed at the Olympic Reconditioning Company, All American Division in East Stroudsburg for 31 years.
She is survived by a sister, Marie Rodgers of Reeders; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers , Peter P. Patruno and Joseph C. Patruno.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Reverend Thomas Richards officiating.
Interment will be in the Tannersville Union Cemetery, Pocono Township. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Ella Lady Johnson-Thomas, 45, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday, March 13, at her brother's home in Paterson, N.J., following a long illness. She was the wife of Charles F. Thomas, at home.
Born on August 3, 1953, in Liberia, she was a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Kamah (Bismark) Johnson.
She had worked as a legal secretary/word processor for Trans America Leasing in White Plains, N.Y.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two young daughters , Kamah Howard and Charlene Thomas, both at home; three brothers ; two sisters ; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends of Stroudsburg, New York, Virginia, Ohio, Chicago and Washington .
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m. from the Faith United Methodist Church, Hill Street, Stroud Township, with the Rev. Joseph Barth officiating. Burial will follow in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.
There will be a viewing on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Margaret E. O'Brien, 88, of Shawnee-on-Delaware, died Thursday at home. She was the wife of the late Vincent O'Brien.
Born on September 11, 1910, in Canandaiqua, N.Y., she worked for the New York City Court System and then for the Queens County District Attorney.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Ostfeld, wife of Raymond of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Nancy Poplawski and Mary Salamone, both of East Stroudsburg, Raymond Ostfeld of Kasson, Minn. and Thomas Ostfeld of Natick, Mass.; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Father Thomas Sokolowski officiating. Burial will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph A. Cordo, 92, of Stroudsburg, died on Thursday, March 18, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
He was the husband of the late Marie (Fischetti) Cordo.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Michele and Teresa (Corrano) Cordo.
He had been a resident of Monroe County for the past five years and prior to that of Florida.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg.
Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed by Progresso Foods as a truck driver for over 30 years.
He was a member of the Monroe County Senior Citizens.
He is survived by three daughters , Paula Hayes of Stroudsburg, Geraldine Dretchen of Albuquerque, N.M., and Elaine Boccio of Howard Beach, N.Y.; a son, Joseph Cordo of Glen Rock, N.J.; two sisters , Jane Bayer and Flo Whitacre, both of California; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Cordo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 22, at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew's Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, with Father Thomas Sokolowski as the celebrant.
Cremation will take place in the Arlington Crematory, White hall. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday March 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.

Wilbur Hay

Wilbur Hay, 86, of Tannersville, died on Tuesday, March 16, at Easton Hospital in Easton. He was the husband of Lillian ( White ) Hay, at home.
Wilbur was born in Pocono Twp., a son of the late Ira and Lydia (Foleweiler) Hay. He had been a resident of Monroe County all of his life.
Before his retirement, he was employed as custodian at the Pocono Elementary School in Tannersville. Prior to that, he was a farmer in Pocono Twp.
He was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Tannersville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Peggy Pomerleau of Aymer, Quebec, Canada; a son, James Hay of Enterprise, Ala.; and one grandson, Daniel Pomerleau of Aymer, Quebec, Canada.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27, Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Reverend Nevin Kershner officiating. Burial will be in the Tannersville Union Cemetery, Tannersville.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Walter W. Pryse
March 16, 1999
Walter W. Pryse, Clarks Summit and formerly from East Stroudsburg, died Tuesday at home after an illness.
Born in Upper Darby, son of the late Walter W. Sr. and Rachel Everhart Pryse, he had been a Clarks Summit resident for more than 30 years. He was the owner of the Chinchilla Auctioneer and Appraisal Co. for 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1990.
He was a master sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and Wilkes College. He was a member of the Community Lodge 744, Free and Accepted Masons, Ardmore, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7069, Clarks Summit.
He was a loving Father , grandfather and friend.
Surviving are two daughters , Linda McGraw of Clarks Summit and Kim Kimler of Marshalls Creek; a son, Daniel of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Jane Ehlers of Marlton, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
There will be no public viewing.
