William M. Fraser

William M. Fraser, 85, of Rockdale Estates, Stroud Township, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. He was the husband of Helen G. (Gwardyak) Fraser. They were married 53 years on June 9, 1998.
He was born on May 12, 1913, in Scotland, the son of the late William and Annie (McBride) Fraser.
He was a member of the Garden City Community Church of Garden City, N.Y.
Prior to his retirement in 1969, he was employed as a mechanical engineer at Arma Corporation in Garden City, N.Y., for more than 37 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ward G. Fraser of Cedarhurst, N.Y.; a daughter, Whitney G., wife of Edward Torning, of Bangor; three grandchildren and one brother, John Fraser of California.
Memorial funeral services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.

Arvilla S. Cortright

Arvilla S. Cortright, 87, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Pocono Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Cortright.
She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Moses and Rosa (Dunlap) Staples. She had been a life long resident of Monroe County. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Bell Telephone in Stroudsburg. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Pocono Pioneer Club.
She is survived by a son, Paul H. Cortright of East Stroudsburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol.
No funeral services or viewing will be held at this time. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Theodore J. Dippre

Theodore J. Dippre, 92, of East Stroudsburg, died on Monday, March 1, at the Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Lena (Rice) Dippre, who died August 25, 1997.
He was born on September 17, 1906 in Bushkill, the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Henn) Dippre and was a life long resident of Monroe County. He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of East Stroudsburg.
Before retiring in 1972, he was employed by the International Boiler Works Co. as a welder for 38 years, where he was a member of the Boilermakers Union. He had a very deep love of life and for his family and friends. Being a sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also an avid bowler. He was a life member of the CLU Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan Dean and her husband, Richard of East Stroudsburg; a grandson, Rick Dean and his wife, Donna of Cary, N.C.; two great grandchildren, Brian and Andrea also of Cary, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers , Frank, Andrew, and Oscar Dippre and a sister, Mary Marvin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, with the Reverend Paul A. Hagendorn officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Gladys Marsh, 79, of Cedar Brook Nursing Home, Allentown, died Saturday, Feb. 28, following an illness.
Born in Pocono Lake, she was the daughter of the late Otto Sherman and Carrie Keiper Marsh. She was educated in Coolbaugh Township.
She is survived by a nephew, William Marsh, Tannersville, and a niece, Valara Hartman. She was preceded in death by four brothers , Wells, Ferdinand, William H., and Forrest.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the Pocono Lake Cemetery, Pocono Pines, with Rev. Richard Bayles officiating.
There will be no public calling hours.

Andrew J. Panick

Andrew J. Panick, 92, of Main Street, Duryea, died Sunday afternoon, February 28, at his home. He and his wife, the former Eleanor Krzynowek celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 17, 1998.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ann Panick. He was educated in Scranton schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the Hotel Casey, Scranton. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. He resided in Duryea for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by two brothers , Joseph Panick, George Panick; and two sisters , Helen Barry and Ethel Fasiska.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Robert Panick of Silver Springs, Md.; two daughters , Brenda Hanratty of Chalfont, and Janice Billick of Stroudsburg; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thurs., March 4, at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home, 204 Main St., Duryea. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea, with the Rev. Charles Rokosz officiating. Interment will be in Parish Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Claire E. Stumpe, 75, of Shawnee, died Sunday, Feb. 28, in her home. She was the wife of the late Edward H. Stumpe.
Born in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Kastner) Priester. She resided in Sparta, N.J. prior to moving to Shawnee.
She was a customer service representative for the K & E Enterprises of Morristown, N.J. for many years.
She was a member of the Lake Mohaw Country Club, the Sparta Women's Club and the Sparta Senior Citizens Club, all of Sparta, N.J.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth E. Stumpe of East Stroudsburg; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4 in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Father Thomas Sokolowski officiating.

William Havlena, 90, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday at Stroud Manor in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Blecha) Havlena, who died in 1996.
Born on June 7, 1908, in New York City, he was the son of the late William and Antonia (Kadlec) Havlena.
He was a graduate of New York University Dental School and practiced dentistry from 1940 until he retired in 1969. He served four years with the United States Air Corps as a dentist.
An avid golfer and bowler, he was a member of the Shawnee Country Club for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the Thomas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gail Kees officiating. Entombment will take place in the Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putham Valley, N.Y.
Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Richard L. Allison, 67, of Salisbury Township, died Friday, Feb. 26, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Nancy T. (Tamburro) Allison. They were married 45 years last May.
He was a financial consultant at Solomon, Smith, Barney, Allentown, for the past 20 years.
He was a 1960 graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia, and received the Drexel University Alumni Association ten year achievement award in 1969. In 1993, he earned the certified financial planner rating from the International Board of Standards and Practices.
Born in Adams County, he was a son of the late John H. and Lottie (Topper) Allison.
He was an Army veteran of the
Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Keith J. of Maiden Creek, Berks County, and twin sons , Richard E. of Lowhill Township and Robert C. at home; daughters , Debra L., wife of Donald A. Caldwell of Allentown and Cynthia N., wife of James Helm of Hughesville, Md.; a sister, Nancy Jane Aiken of Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Linda M. Oney, 56, of Stroudsburg. died Monday evening in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountainhill Township.
Born on December 23, 1942, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Lamar and Ida (Fronk) Stokes and had lived in Easton, Marshalls Creek, and Stroudsburg for 15 years and then East Stroudsburg before recently returning of Easton to live with her sister.
A graduate of Easton High School, she worked for Sears in Stroudsburg for over ten years in customer service.
She is survived by four daughters , Victoria Smith of Westfield, Lisa Sargent of East Stroudsburg, Denise Lapp of Marshalls Creek and Carla Shafer of Stroudsburg; nine grandchildren, Kristina and Chelsea Smith, Jami and Jennifer Sargent, James, Daniel and Michael Lapp and Kristin and Kelly Shafer; two brothers , Thomas Stokes of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Richard Charles Stokes of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Patricia Gregory of Easton; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Salvation Army, East Stroudsburg, with Captain Mark S. Mackneer officiating.
