Murray Kaufman, 73, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Isaac and Eva (Labunsky) Kaufman. He was a resident of East Stroudsburg for the past two years, and prior to that he lived in the New York City, N.Y., area.
He was employed as a bus driver with he New York Transit Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, and was of the Jewish faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Romanay (Maureen) Lashley of East Stroudsburg; a son, Raymond Kaufman of New York City, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glendale, N.Y. Interment will follow the services.

Gabor I. Papp Jr.
February 17, 1999
Gabor I. Papp Jr., 39, of Albrightsville, and formerly of West Orange, N.J., died Wednesday in his home.
Born in Hungary, he was a son of Gabor I. Papp Sr. and Maria Papp of Albrightsville.
He had been a supervisor at the Berlis Bearing Co. in Livingston, N.J., for eight years. He had lived in West Orange, N.J., from 1973 to 1990, when he moved to Albrightsville.
He was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Steven and Maria Vegh in Hungary.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. William McCawley officiating. Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery in Brodheadsville. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Harold Sackett Pond Jr.

Dr. Harold Sackett Pond Jr., 86, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Ruth J. (Peterson) Pond who died in 1985.
Born on June 16, 1912 in Grand Forks, N.D., he was the son of the late Harold S. Sr. and Marian (Seeley) Pond and had lived in the area for the past sixty years. A graduate of the University of North Dakota, he taught at the University of Pennsylvania . A Doctor of Internal Medicine, he was the Gold Medal Recipient on May 16, 1985. He was employed at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg with private practice until retiring in 1982 at the age of 70. He was a First Board Certified Internist from 1947 to 1959; First Chief of the Department of Medicine from 1947 continuing as chief of the Department until 1974.
In 1943, he served in the American Red Cross of the United States Army in Ledo, Assam, India, retiring as Lt. Col. and served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Stroudsburg.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Smith of Oneida, N.Y.; a son, Peter Pond of Belton, Texas ; a brother, William Pond of Bemidji, Minn.; a sister, Rebecca Boyum of Cherokee, N.C.; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his personal friend and caregiver, Nadine Roth-Lazur of Saylorsburg.
Dr. Pond's remains were conveyed to the Humanity Gifts Registry for Scientific study at the University of Pennsylvania , Philadelphia.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the Christ Episcopal Church, 205 N. 7th Street, Stroudsburg, with the Father Joseph L. DeAcetis officiating. There will be no viewing.

Geraldine J. Hahn, age 65 of Towamensing Twp., died Wednesday, February 17, 1999, at home.
She was the wife of Clarence D. Hahn. They had been married 47 years.
Born in Hatchery, Pa., on August 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Meckes) Zacharias.
She and her husband owned and operated C.D. Hahn Concrete in Towamensing Twp.for over 29 years.
She was a member of the Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Towamensing, Twp., Trachsville.
She had graduated from the Polk School in Kresgeville, she was also a member of the Polk Twp. Alumni.
She was a Past President of the Auxiliary of the Towamensing Twp. Volunteer Fire Company in Towamensing Twp. She was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens in Kresgeville.
She had been a former Cub Scout Den mother for Den #209 and a former president of the PTA at Towamensing Elementary School.
In addition to her husband, Clarence, she is survived by a daughter, Betty wife of Wayne Knirnschild; four sons , Larry and his wife Marie Hahn, Terry and his wife Janine Hahn, Harry and his companion Betty Anthony, and Barry and his wife Candy Hahn, all of Towamensing Twp.; three sisters , Emma Kunkle of Allentown, Myrtle Zacharias of Kunkletown, and Lerene Bruch of Kunkletown; one brother, Roy Zacharias of Kunkletown; ten grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers , Marvin Zacharias and Willard Zacharias.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 22, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Becky J. Beckwith officiating. Interment will be in the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery in Trachsville, Towamensing Twp. Viewing will be held Sunday, February 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Phillis M. Hallett, 60, of Poplar Bridge, Middle Smithfield Township, died early Thursday morning, February 18, in her home. She was the wife of Clyde M. Hallett, at home, to whom she had been married since June 8, 1957.
Born on December 12, 1938 in Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of Bernadette (Beards) Hartman of East Stroudsburg and the late Raymond Hartman, and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. A graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, she was a housewife and antique dealer.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by two sons , David M. Hallett, husband of Michelle Hallett of Poplar Bridge and Richard R. Hallett, husband to Darleen, also of Poplar Bridge; a daughter, Saglinda M. Roberts, wife of Craig Roberts of White Heron Lake; eight grandchildren: Tiffany Hallett, Richard Hallett, Brandon Hallett, Briana Hallett, Cory Hallett, Cassandra Hallett, Nathan Roberts and Sarah Roberts; two brothers , Bennie Hartman, husband of Mary Hartman of Sykesville, Md., and Roger Hartman, husband of Dolores Hartman of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Linda Reeves, wife of Caswell Reeves of Endicott, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hallett Treible, wife of Russell Treible of Poplar Bridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. David A. Cornell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a tree be planted in memory of a loved one.

Robert L. George

Robert L. George, 50, of Stroud Township, died Wednesday evening in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Linda P. (LaBadie) George at home.
Born on January 11, 1949 in Johnstown, Cambria County, he was the son of Jean L. (Bassett) George of East Stroudsburg and the late William D. George and had lived most of his life in Monroe County. He had worked as an engineer for Instrument Specialties in Delaware Water Gap for the last seventeen years.
A veteran of Vietnam, he served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot earning the Silver Star. He graduated in 1967 from East Stroudsburg High School; was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church; the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2540 Veterans of Foreign Wars, East Stroudsburg; the National Rifle Association; and the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Association.
In addition to his wife and mother , he is survived by a sister, Nancy Rogers of Long Pond; nine nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the William Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.
Graveside services with full military honors on Tuesday, March 2 at 11 a.m. in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Ruth Lillian Garris, 75, of East Stroudsburg, died Thursday morning, February 18, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Kemmie Garris, at home.
Born on October 1, 1923 in Appenzell, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Nettie (Miller) Miller and was a resident of Pike and Monroe Counties for most of her life.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons , Ervin H. Garris, of East Stroudsburg and Larry W. Garris of Wind Gap; a granddaughter, Mellisa Garris of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Carolyn Raseley of Saylorsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday evening, February 21, at 7 p.m. from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Ruth's nephew, the Rev. David Felker, officiating. Following the services, cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Sunday from 6 p.m. until the time of the services.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.

William R. Pugh

William R. Pugh, 58, of Jackson Township, died on Feb. 19, in his home. He was the husband of Irene (Yeisley) Pugh.
He was born in East Stroudsburg, the son of the late Clinton C. and Edna (Johnson) Pugh. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
He was employed as a molder for the former Shaw Plastics, of Stroudsburg, for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Billy Joe Pugh, of Pocono Summit; two daughters , Elizabeth Irish, of Wilkes-Barre, and Juanitia Koestler, of East Stroudsburg; two stepsons, Dale Pugh, of Kunkletown and Floyd Pugh Jr., of Stroudsburg; a step-daughter, Jacqueline Pugh, of Halifax; a brother, Clinton C. Pugh Jr., of Stroudsburg; a sister, Patricia Flowers, of Stroudsburg; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandson
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m., at Stroudsburg Cemetery, in Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.

Walter T. Beers, 74, of Kresgeville, died Friday, Feb. 19, at the Palmerton Hospital in Palmerton. He was the husband of the late Mary (Bachman) Beers, who died in 1989.
He was born in Kresgeville, the son of the late Theoglas and Susan (Houseman) Beers.
He worked as a laborer for Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem for 26 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union at Bethlehem Steel, and of the Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Kresgeville.
Surviving are two sisters , Emma Serfass, wife of David, of Kresgeville and Annabelle Gougher, wife of Ralph, of Effort; two brothers , Richard Beers and Francis Beers, both of Kresgeville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Schock.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday, February 22 at the funeral home.

Marie J. Mazzeo, 76, of Stroudsburg, died early Friday morning, Feb. 19, in Stroud Manor Nursing Home, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Dr. Stephen T. Mazzeo, at home.
Born on December 19, 1922, in Flushing, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Urello) Romano and had lived in Stroudsburg for the past six years coming here from East Norwich, N.Y.
She worked as a registered nurse in New York and also attended St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters : Dana Bernous of Long Island, N.Y.; Marilyn, wife of Andrew Gondell Jr. of Stroudsburg; and Catherine, wife of Anthony Russo of Long Island, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren: Stephen Bernous and Danielle Bernous, both of Long Island, N.Y., Andrew Gondell III, Bradley Gondell and Katelyn Gondell, all of Stroudsburg; and Christopher Russo and Jennifer Russo, both of Long Island, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated, Saturday, Feb. 20, at 11:30 a.m., from St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial was in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
