Murrel Ridgeway Kiefer

Murrel Ridgeway Kiefer, 93, of State College, formerly of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999, at The Fairways at Brookline Village in State College.
He was born on November 20, 1905, in Easton, the son of the late Elmer J. and Mary R. Kiefer. On March 27, 1930, he married Jean S. Turn who preceded him in death on March 13, 1995.
He was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University in 1929. At Penn State, he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity; Scarab, an Architecture Honorary Fraternity; on the staff of "Froth" the 1928 LaVie yearbook; and played varsity lacrosse during his junior and senior years.
He was a founding partner in the architectural firm of Rinker, Kiefer, and Rake, later RKR Associates in Stroudsburg, from which he retired in 1973.
During World War II, he commanded the 876th Airborne Engineer Aviation Battalion, serving three years, three months in the European Theatre. He held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star medal.
He was a member of the Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church where he was also an Elder and Trustee; a former Rotarian; a member emeritus of the American Institute of Architects; a member of the Quiet Valley Historical Farm; Monroe County Historical Society; charter member and first president of the Monroe County Museum Association and a former member of the Stroudsburg Planning Commission.
He is survived by one son, Peter T. Kiefer of State College; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. A son Jon Lawrence Kiefer; a brother Elmer Kiefer; and a sister, Nellie Hoagland, all preceded him in death.
Private visitation and graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery in South Stroudsburg.

Raymond J. Cegelka

Raymond J. Cegelka, age 84, died at Wayne Woodland's Manor in Waymart on February 2, 1999, after a brief illness.
He was born at home in North Scranton on March 29, 1914, a son of Jacob and Wladyslawa (Letkiewicz) Cegielka. He was predeceased by two brothers , Walter and Edward and a sister, Vera Bugno.
Ray attended local schools and graduated from Scranton Technical High School.
His wife Anna died in 1979.
Mr. Cegelka worked for over 40 years for Calco Chemical/American Cyanamid Company in Bound Brook, N.J., retiring in September of 1975. During his working years, Ray was active in the BPOE Elks and the Polish Falcons of America in Plainfield, N.J. Since his retirement, he held offices in the Monroe County Senior Clubs, the Pocono Mountain Senior Citizen's and Community Association of Pocono Farms.
Mr. Cegelka is survived by his only son, Peter, who resides with his wife Florence in Pocono Summit. He has several nieces, a nephew, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the James M. Hook and Company Funeral Home at 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning, February 6, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Mount Pocono with Monsignor Arthur J. Kaschenbach, celebrant.

Helen S. Jacob, 92, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday, February 3, 1999, in Pleasant Valley Manor, Snydersville, where she was a resident.
Born in Zeigler, Illinois, she was the wife of the late Edward Jacob. She was a resident of Stroudsburg for the past 20 years and prior to that she lived in the Massapequa, N.Y., area.
She was employed as a cook in many New York restaurants her entire life. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Wiebke of Stroudsburg; two sons , William Jacob of Autchogue, Conn., and Edward Jacob of Fort Salonga, N.Y.; and several grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island. Interment will follow the services.

Charles T. LaBar, 90, of Middle Smithfield Twp., died on Wednesday, February 3, 1999, in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Grace (Gunsaules) LaBar. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on December 24, 1998.
Born in Price Township, he was a son of the late Albert O. and Louisa (Yaggie) LaBar. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
He was employed as a contracting supervisor for Charlie Franks Construction in Stroudsburg for over 20 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Memberships include J. Simpson Africa Lodge No. 628 in Stroudsburg; George N. Kemp American Legion Post #346 in East Stroudsburg; Monroe County Chapter of Woodmen of the World; and East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
In addition to this wife, he is survived by two sisters , Betty Martin of Cresco and Marjorie Caprioli of Cresco; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Dr. Edward Kimes officiating.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service in Lanterman & Allen.
Committal will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

William E. Fennelly, 70, of East Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday, February 3, 1999, in his home. He was the husband of Patricia H. (Caufield) Fennelly, at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late William P. and Grace (DeMilt) Fennelly. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past nineteen years.
He was employed as a real estate broker and salesperson for Coldwell Banker Phyllis Rubin Real Estate for the past two years. Prior to that, he and his wife owned Century 21 Springfield in Bushkill for 5 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the
Korean War.
He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg and a member of the Lambert VFW in East Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , William D. Fennelly and wife Jean of Levittown, N.Y., and Ronald P. Fennelly of Snydersville; a sister, Grace Gilleo of Oakdale, Long Island, N.Y.; and a niece, Patricia-Ann Wahrheit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Stroudsburg.
There will be viewings on Thursday, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.
Interment will take place in the Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.

Gerald W. "Jerry" Tyreman, 86, of Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday, February 3, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Verna L. (Rupprecht) Tyreman, at home. They had been married for 53 years.
He was born in Stroudsburg, a son of the late Lewis G. and Ada (Quick) Tyreman. He had been a resident of Monroe County his lifetime. He was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and was very active in the Church Christian Men's Breakfast. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; having served during World War II in the South Pacific for 3½ years.
Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed by Edward Lawson Auto Supply of Stroudsburg; prior to that he was employed by Stroudsburg Glass Company for 25 years.
He was a graduate of the former Pocono Township High School, Class of 1931. He enjoyed being an active bowler and later joined the Tuesday Senior Citizen Bowling League. He was a former superintendent of St. John's Lutheran Church Sunday School in Scotrun.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Willard D. "Pete" Tyreman of Scotrun; a niece, Joanne Bufton of Bethlehem; and a nephew, Jeffrey Tyreman of Endicott, N.Y.
It was Jerry's request that funeral services be private in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 south Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg.

Jeanette F. Egan, 73, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, at home. She was the wife of the late Donald T. Egan who died in 1995.
Born on February 17, 1925 in Belleville, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Anna E. (Huntgardner) Williamson and had lived in the area since 1963 moving here from New Jersey. She had worked as an office manager for twenty years at Chemical Coating in Nutley, N.J. She and her late husband had developed Lake Valhalla in East Stroudsburg and was the Vice President of the Lake Valhalla Corp.
She is survived by three sisters : Ethel Williamson of Belleville, N.J.; Eleanor Owens of Washington , N.J.; and Gertrude McGinnis of Hilton Head, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Barrett.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Father Joseph L. DeAcetis officiating.
There will be a visitation on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Madalyn B. Rouck, 61, of Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday, February 3, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Clinton Rouck Sr. at home.
She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Counterman) Strouse. She had been a resident of Monroe County her lifetime. She was a member of the Salvation Army in East Stroudsburg and the Ladies Home League at the Salvation Army.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven daughters : Joanne Featherman and Ashley Lang, both of East Stroudsburg; Geraldine Moore, Brenda Young, Mary Heller, Penny LaBar and Bessie Jones, all of Stroudsburg; three sons : Clinton Rouck Jr. and John Rouck, both of Stroudsburg; and Rick Rouck of Houltzdale; four brothers : Daniel Staples of Allentown; Alfred Strouse and Harold Strouse, both of Stroudsburg; and Floyd Staples of East Stroudsburg; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters , Rose Ann Harrison and Gladys Decker; and two brothers , George Staples and John Strouse.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 9, at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 226 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Captain Mark Mackneer officiating.
Interment will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the Salvation Army.

Vera Kelly

Vera Kelly, 74, of Tannersville, died Thursday morning, February 4, in her home. She was the wife of Kenneth W. Kelly, at home.
Born on June 25, 1924, in Bolton, England, the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Warlsey) Mankin, she came to the United States in 1952 living in Philadelphia for a short time and then moved to Tannersville where she has lived for the past 33 years.
Vera was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Tannersville and was active in the church's women's guild.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steven K. Kelly of East Stroudsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8 at 2 p.m. from the Grace United Church of Christ, corner of Routes 715 and Sullivan Trail, Tannersville, with the Rev. Nevin L. Kershner officiating. Following the services, cremation will take place at the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Monday in the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the services.
