Kathy F. Grayuski

January 31, 1999

Kathy F. Grayuski, 38, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday, January 31, 1999 in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Thomas J. Grayuski at home.

Born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of Lois Ford Fredrick of East Stroudsburg and the late Neal S. Fredrick. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

She had a career as a special education teacher at Resica Elementary School in Marshalls Creek for the past 4 years as the Instructional Support Team teacher. Prior to that she taught at Middle Smithfield Elementary School. Prior to teaching at Middle Smithfield, she taught at IU 20 in Monroe County from 1982 for several years. She was also an adjunct professor at ESU in 1991 for 2 semesters in the Special Education Department.

She was a 1978 graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, and a graduate of East Stroudsburg University in 1982 with her bachelor's degree in Special Education and in 1988 with her master's degree in Reading Specialists.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg, and a member of the East Stroudsburg Teachers Union. She was active in the Special Olympics in Monroe County for many years.

She was a majorette at East Stroudsburg High School and was the majorette instructor for the East Stroudsburg High School Band for 10 years. She also played the clarinet in the high school concert band.

In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by a daughter, Nicole F. Grayuski and a son, Nathan T. Grayuski, both at home; a sister, Sheri Deeb of Allentown; two step-sisters , Connie Price and Joanne Sharron, both of Reeders. She was preceded in death by infant triplets, Kaitlyn F., Ryan T., and Michael T. Grayuski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 4, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg with Monsignor John Bergamo as celebrant.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, February 3, 1999 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.

Cremation will take place in Arlington Crematory, White hall. Committal of Cremains will take place in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, scholarship donations may be made for her children in care of East Stroudsburg Savings Association, 744 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Hilda Gehr

February 1, 1999

Hilda Gehr, 79, of R.R. 4 Kunkletown, died Monday in Gnaden Huetten Hospital, Lehighton.

She was the wife of the late Karlis G. Gehr.

She was born in Gera, Germany.

She is survived by two sons , Charles Gehr of Kunkletown and Harry Gehr of Saylorsburg; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Bernard.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family at a date and time to be announced.

Newton C. Taylor, Jr.

February 1, 1999

Newton C. Taylor, Jr., 75, of Smithfield Twp., died on Monday, February 1, 1999, in Muhlenberg Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Lois (Rinker) Taylor, at home.

Born in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Newton C. and Celestia (Doll) Taylor, Sr. He was a resident of Monroe County for most of his lifetime.

He was an excavating contractor in East Stroudsburg for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II. He was also a member of the Lambert VFW Post in Stroudsburg and a former member of the Monroe County Sewer Authority and board member. He was a former member of the J. Simpson Africa Lodge for over 50 years in Stroudsburg and was an expert pistol marksman and recipient of the Presidents 100 Shooting Award at Camp Perry, Ohio, at age 65. He was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Newton C. Taylor, III, of Henryville; five daughters , Beverly L. Place of East Stroudsburg, Barbara Troy of Wilkes-Barre, Beth O. Armitage of Tempe, Ariz., Brenda Bauer of Glendale, Ariz., and Becki L. Turtzo of East Stroudsburg; two sisters , Ellen Burrus of East Stroudsburg and Ruth Burrows of Glen Burnie, Md.; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. in the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Dr. Edward Kimes officiating. There will be a memorial visitation on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service in the church.

Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. Committal of cremains will take place in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Edna R. Carpenter

February 1, 1999

Edna R. Carpenter, 91, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday afternoon, February 1, in the Laurel Manor Nursing Home, Stroudsburg, where she had been a resident since May, 1997. She was the widow of David N. Carpenter.

Born on March 24, 1907, in Alton, Fla., she had lived in Monroe County for the past 4 years moving here from Nutley, N.J.

She had worked as a secretary for an insurance company in N.J. and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Nutley, N.J.

Surviving are three grandsons, David Carpenter of East Stroudsburg, Stephen Carpenter of Mt. Pocono, and Andrew Carpenter of California; and two great grandsons, David and Sean.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family at Grace Lutheran Church, Nutley, N.J., where her cremains will be scattered in the church's scattering garden. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Arrangements are being handled by the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Ella L. Flory

February 1, 1999

Ella L. Flory, 88, of Stroudsburg, died on Monday, February 1, 1999, in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Jesse R. S. Flory.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John and Ella (Royal) Lieb. She was a resident of Monroe County for many years.

A graduate of Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1932, she had a career as a registered nurse working in Philadelphia for several years. She was a Gray Lady at Pocono Medical Center and a member of the hospital auxiliary. She was also co-founder of the Monroe County Planned Parenthood in Stroudsburg. She was a volunteer and served on the board of the former Children's Aid of Monroe County and was a volunteer at the Arthritis Clinic at Pocono Medical Center and a volunteer R.N. for the Monroe County Red Cross Blood Bank.

She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Presbyterian Church and a member of the church women's association.

She is survived by two daughters , Ruth F. Kresge of Lehighton, and Susan F. Ervey of Medford, N.J.; two sons , Edward T. Flory of East Stroudsburg and Richard A. Flory of Chico, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and "adopted" daughter, Janice Rohlf of Smithtown, N.Y.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 5, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with Rev. James D. Lyman and Rev. Samuel Huffard officiating. There will be no viewing.

Committal will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the East Stroudsburg United Presbyterian Church, Smith Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, or to the Laurel Manor Nursing Home, W. Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

February 2, 1999

Donald E. Albertson, 71, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Arwilda (Fish) Chiodo Albertson who died in 1997.

Born on May 19, 1927, in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Roy and Ruth Albertson and had lived in the area all of his life. He retired as controller at Shawnee Press and was the former owner and operator of Gabel's Dairy Bar in Tannersville.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a graduate of Stroudsburg High School. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg.

He is survived by a stepson, Daniel Paul Chiodo of Joplin, Mo.; two step grandchildren; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Harry M. Laubach officiating. Burial will follow in the Delaware Water Gap Cemetery, Delaware Water Gap.

There will be a viewing on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Dorothy Fannie Kresge

January 30, 1999

Dorothy Fannie Kresge, 79, of Brevard, N.C., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 30, 1999, at Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard.

A native of the Pocono Mountains, she was born at the Pine Knob Inn, Canadensis. She was a daughter of the late George Wallace and Alice May Crane and is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer George Kresge.

She and her husband were the proprietors of Elmer's Motel in Tannersville until retirement in 1972. They enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and five continents. She appeared recently on National Geographic as a participant in the first Three Generation Skydive (August, 1998) at the World Freefall Convention, Quincy, Ill.

She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School and continued her education at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College.

She is survived by her children, Elmer Kresge, Jr., of Victorville, Calif., Mrs. Marion Peechatka of Tannersville, Richard Pierce of Chugiak, Alaska, Mrs. Ann Trach of Brevard, N.C., and Mrs. Ilene Cook of Kresgeville; her brothers , Milton Crane of Seattle, Wash., and David Crane of Stroudsburg; and a sister, Mrs. Francis Carothers of Edgerton, Wisc. She was preceded in death by brothers , Wallace, George, and Robert Crane and by sisters , Helen Calton and Jean Miller. She had 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from Grace United Church of Christ, Camelback Road, Tannersville, with the Rev. Nevin Kershner officiating. Burial will be in the Tannersville Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Church of Christ, Camelback Road, Tannersville, PA 18372, the Monroe County East Library, Stroudsburg PA 18360, or Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 W. French Broad Ave., Brevard, NC 28712.

January 28, 1999

Theodore Joseph Moylen, 73, of New Port Richey, Florida, died Thursday, January 28, 1999, at Community Hospital of New Port Richey in New Port Richey, Fla.

He was born in Hoboken, N.J., and moved to New Port Richey from Wharton, N.J., in 1985.

He was an operating engineer for the Verona Construction Company in Verona, N.J., retiring after 40 years of service.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, New Port Richey, Fla., and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Knights of Columbus #11680.

He was a member of the Pasco Power Lifting Team of New Port Richey and in 1993 won the World Title, Masters Division, Power Lifting in Norwich, England.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa K. Moylen of New Port Richey, Fla.; a son, Robert C. Moylen of East Stroudsburg; two daughters , Theresa L. Moylen of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Barbara A. Exposito of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Frank Moylan of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters , Cecelia Mooney and Maryann Darlington, both of New Port Richey, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Christina and Nicholas Exposito of New Port Richey, Fla., and Robert and Allyson Moylen of East Stroudsburg.

January 31, 1999

Lizzie Turner, 88, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday evening in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Frank Turner.

Born on January 19, 1911 in Reeders, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Agnes (Kresge) Belcher and had lived in the area all of her life. She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by a brother, Edward Belcher of Stroudsburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nettie Price Eget and a brother, John Belcher.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Rev. Carol A. Campbell and Rev. Keith Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Tannersville Union Cemetery.

There will be a viewing on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Swiftwater United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25, Swiftwater, PA 18370.
