L. E. Caroline Mooney (Waer), 69, died on Sunday, Jan. 3, at her home in Lake Hopatcong, N.J., following a short illness. She was born in Rockaway, N.J., and lived in Kenvil for 10 years before moving to Stroudsburg and then moving to Lake Hopatcong a month ago. She was a homemaker and very devoted to her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel H. in 1990. She is survived by two sons , Roger Mooney of Lake Hopatcong and Patrick Mooney of Pennsylvania ; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Efantis of Pennsylvania ; two sisters , Alice Doblosky of Wharton and Evelyn Vershraegen of Rockaway, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Main Street, Succasunna, N.J., on Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Katharine V. Muscatella
January 4, 1999
Katharine V. Muscatella passed away Jan. 4, 1999 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing facility after an illness. She is survived by her sister Theresa V. Muscatella who is also a guest at Pleasant Valley Manor.
She was born in Italy and lived there until coming to the United States, locating in the Mt. Pocono area. She was well known in the Saint Mary's Parish because of her position as a house keeper for the clergy of the church, and a faithful member of that congregation.
Friends may call at the Saint Mary's Church, Fairview Avenue, Mount Pocono on Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Arthur Kaschenbach officiating.
Interment to follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary's Church, Fairview Avenue, Mount Pocono.

Dorothy Fredette Miner, 91, of 106 Cedar Woods Common in LaBar Village, Stroudsburg, died Monday, January 4, in Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington Twp. Pa.
She was employed by ATT Long Lines out of Flushing, N.Y., for over 40 years retiring in 1963.
Born January 7, 1907, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Peter and Eugenie Roy Fredette.
She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, Stroudsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg. Call on Thursday morning in the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Flushing, N.Y.

Aubrey Lorraine Eurich, infant daughter of Joseph A. and Johnna (Snyder) Eurich of Stroud Twp., was stillborn on Monday, January 4, 1999, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, John Richard and Carol (Luckey) Snyder of Bushkill and maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Lang of East Stroudsburg.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. in Delaware Cemetery, Dingmans Ferry, Pike County, Pa., with Rev. Glen Segond officiating. There will be no viewing.

Ina S. Chapman, 77, of Sebring, Florida, died Friday morning, January 1, 1999.
She was the wife of Boyd W. Chapman. They had celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in June of 1998.
Ina was born in Gurock, Scotland, and moved to Scranton in the early 1930's where she lived prior to becoming a resident of Stroudsburg in 1958.
An avid golfer, Ina was a member of Highlands Ridge Golf Association and a former member of Glenbrook Country Club and River Ranch Golf Association. She had been a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church before moring to Florida in 1984.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters , Susan Greene of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Nancy McNamee of Newton, N.J.; a grandson, Brendan McNamee; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Sebring, Fla., at Highlands Ridge on Monday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m.
A memorial service for local family and friends will be held on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m., at the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, Stroudburg.

Sherdon C. Butz, 59, of Stroudsburg, died Monday morning in his home. He was the husband of Gale (Sullivan) Butz to whom he had been married since November 3, 1962.
Born on February 27, 1939 in Appenzell, he was the son of the late Clyde H. and Vivian A. (Doll) Butz and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked as a television service man for Sears for seven years until 1969 when he became the owner/operator of Stroud TV and Appliance in Stroudsburg.
A 1957 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, he graduated from the Allentown Electronic Training Center. He was active in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 to 1958.
He was a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and Past president of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Men. He was the institutional representative for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 86 and a member of the Knights of Malta.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons David Butz and his wife Jamie, Dale Butz, and Daniel Butz, all of Stroudsburg; two grandchildren, Emily Butz and Ryan Butz, both of Stroudsburg; a brother, Harold L. Butz of Stroudsburg; and four nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. George S. Rigby, Jr. and Rev. Thomas Anderman officiating. Graveside services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, and from 6 p.m. until time of service at the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.

Robert E. Howe

Robert E. Howe died Monday, January 4, at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on September 16, 1930, a son of Edward H. Howe and Anna Coyle.
Mr. Howe was a resident of Old Bridge, N.J., for the past 37 years. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Parish in Old Bridge, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a member of the Lake Naomi Club in Pocono Pines, Pa., and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church. He served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1948 to 1953.
Mr. Howe retired from William H. McGee and Co., New York, in January of 1997, after 50 years of service. He held numerous positions within the company throughout his career. He was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1979, President and Chief Operations Officer in 1989 and President and Chief Executive Officer in 1991. He served as Vice Chairman from 1995 to 1997.
"Bob's story is the kind of success tale that books and plays are made of. He started in the mail room and worked his way up to the CEO of this well respected Marine Insurance Company," said Vincent Papa, current McGee Chairman.
In addition to serving as President of various McGee companies, he also was a member of the Board of Directors of numerous industry organizations. These included Director and Chairman of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association; Director, National Cargo Bureau; Director of the Hull Syndicate; and Director of the A.I.M.U. Mr. Howe was also a member of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters and the Water Quality Syndicate.
"Bob was a mentor for many of us here at McGee imparting on us his underwriting and business skills. He was a great insurance man and friend," recounted George Spagnolo, Vice President of McGee.
Mr. Howe is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Johanna, in April of 1998.
Surviving are a son, Robert F. Howe of Colts Neck, N.J.; three daughters , Barbara Borretsky, Joan Kibbler and Marianne Jarvis, all of Old Bridge; seven grandchildren; two brothers , Donald Howe of Staten Island, N.Y., and Joseph Howe of North Bellmore, Long Island; and a sister, Loretta Scancarello of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 U.S. Highway 9N., Old Bridge, N.J., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Ambrose R.C. Church, Old Bridge. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, N.J. Visiting hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Robert J. Chasse, 77, of Arrowhead Lakes, formerly of Elizabeth, N.J., died January 3, 1999 in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on Feb. 16, 1921, Mr. Chasse lived most of his life in Elizabeth, N.J., before moving to Arrowhead Lake section of Pocono Lakes three years ago.
Mr. Chasse retired in 1986, after 19 years as a truck driver for the Doyle Trucking Co. of Elizabeth, N.J.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 478 and a former member of the Brick Layers Union 18.
Survivors include his wife, the former Eleanor Klein; one son, Brad, of Arrowhead Lakes; two daughters , Lynn Koromi, of Blairstown, N.J., and Janis Noviello, of Bangor; one sister, Rita Langenberger of Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, January 8, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairstown, N.J. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newbaker Funeral Home, Route 94, Blairstown, N.J. Mary C. Stephens, 82, of Brick, N.J., died Monday at the Laurleton Village Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late William E. Stephens who died in 1968.
Born in East Orange, N.J., she had lived in Paterson, N.J., before moving to Belmar in 1949.
She was very active in many church organizations at the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar. She was a Deacon, had taught in the Sunday School for 20 years and was a member of the Woman's Guild. She was also active with the Girl Scouts and Belmar Grammar School PTA.
She is survived by a son, William of Brick, N.J., and a daughter, Judith Williams of East Stroudsburg; and 3 grandchildren, Connor, Meredith and Jeffrey.
Funeral Services will be at noon, Friday, at the Reilly Funeral Home, 8th Avenue and D Street, Belmar, N.J. Interment will follow in the Atlantic View Cemetery in Manasquan, N.J. Visiting hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

George Conrad, 89, of Slate Belt Medical Center, Bangor, and formerly of Easton, died Wednesday at the Slate Belt Medical Center.
He was the husband of the late Esther (Faldetta) Conrad who died in 1986.
Born May 10, 1909 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Otto and Margaret (Getz) Conrad.
He was a Machinist for the former Dixie Cup in Wilson Boro.
He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 19th & Washington Boulevard, Wilson Boro.
He is survived by a son, George O. Conrad of Nazareth; 5 daughters , Shirley Koehler of Dublin, Pa., Margaret Kratzer of Saylorsburg, Darlene McIntosh of Saylorsburg, Patricia Anderson of Warwick, R.I., and Terri Maynard of Pen Argyl; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Alma Forster and 5 brothers , Otto, Albert, Henry, Edward and John Conrad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., from the Alfonso D. Morello Funeral Home, 12th & Lehigh Streets, Easton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 19th & Washington Blvd., Wilson Boro.
