Victor W. Strunk Sr., 79, of East Stroudsburg, died on Thursday, December 10, at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill.
He was the husband of Eva Mae (Potter) Strunk, at home. They had celebrated 52 years of marriage.
He was born in East Stroudsburg, a son of the late William C. and Sarah (O'Neil) Strunk.
He had been a resident of Monroe County for most of his lifetime.
Prior to his retirement in 1981, he owned and operated Vic's Friendly Service in Stroud Township for 38 years.
Prior to that he owned and operated an automotive repair shop in Paterson, N.J., for 20 years.
He was an avid stock car driver during the 1950s and 1960s.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gloria DeBoer of East Stroudsburg; 2 sons , Victor W. Strunk Jr. of Swiftwater, and Joseph I. Strunk of Stroudsburg; a brother, Eugene Strunk of Stroud Township; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons , Robert E. Strunk and Clifford Dale Strunk.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 14, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth S. Steinhauer, 88, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Stroudsburg, died on December 6, 1998. She was the wife of the late Edward W. Steinhauer.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1910 in Forty Fort. She was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Lutheran Church of Women; Church Women United; and Local Artist Groups, all in Monroe County; and St. John's Lutheran Church of Stroudsburg.
She is survived by a son, George (Cyndy) Steinhauer of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters , Priscilla Steinhauer of Surprise, Ariz., and Susan Steinhauer of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Margaret Gardner of Newburn, N.C.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial service was held on Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Wheatridge, Colo. Burial was in the Fern Knoll Memorial Park, Dallas, Pa. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg in memory of Ruth.

Louis A. "Chick" DeVito, 71, of Long Pond, died December 9, 1998.
Beloved husband of Jennie Ruggiero.
Born in Passaic, N.J., he lived there for 25 years; Garfield, N.J., for 10 years; Lake Hiawatha, N.J., for 30 years; and Long Pond, Pa., for 6 years.
He was self-employed, owning and operating Chick's Italian Ice, Garfield, N.J., for 30 years retiring in 1992.
He was a Korean Army veteran.
He was a parishioner of the Most Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Garfield, N.J.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters , Linda DeVito of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., and Diane Caglianone of Landing, N.J.; a son, Michael DeVito of Jefferson , N.J.; a brother, Pat DeVito of Florida; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Caglianone, both of Landing, N.J.; and a dear friend Linda Hogan of Jefferson , N.J.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, at 8:30 a.m. at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Avenue, Garfield, N.J., followed by a Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Most Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Garfield, N.J. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.
Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gerd O. Lindner, 66, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, from cancer after a long stay in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the loving husband of Gisell M. (Mandel) Lindner with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Alfred and Clara Lindner. He lived his early years in Germany receiving a degree in Electrical Leinmechaniker. He then went to work at the A. Aggregatebau Inc. in Hamburg where he engineered electrical power plants and emergency power supplies for ships near England and the North Sea.
In 1959 he and his wife moved to the Echo Lake area of Monroe County. From 1960 until 1964 he managed the Echo Lake Farms and in 1964 he and his wife Gisell owned and operated the Echo Lake Hotel and Country Club until 1976. While residing at Echo Lake he received a degree in Electronics Equipment from Lincoln Tech. School, and a degree in Hotel Management from the University of Miami.
From 1976 until the present he and Gisell owned and operated the Electronic G. & M. Service Inc. of Stroudsburg, and also the Echo Lake Builders Co.
He was a bus driver with the Stroudsburg School District from 1976 to the present.
He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg and was an Usher at the 10:15 Mass. He was a member of the Father Butler Council Knights of Columbus #4084 Stroudsburg and Assembly 980 of the fourth degree. Member of the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau having served as its Treasurer for 5 years, and a member of the Eastern Pocono Resort.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Michael G. Lindner of Owings (Chesapeake Bay), Md.; a daughter, Monika Gisell Resmondo of Lake Wales, Fla.; a brother Fred Lindner of Hamburg, Germany; three grandchildren: Sean Lindner, Nicholas Lindner, and Zachary Lindner, all of Owings, Md.; and relatives in Germany and Africa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Father Thomas D. McLaughlin as celebrant. Burial will be in the Sandhill Cemetery, Bushkill.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, and on Monday, Dec. 14, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the Church.
The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Janet M. Platt, 61, of Pocono Pines, died Wednesday, December 9, at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnwood. She was the cherished wife of Leroy Platt.
She was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., a daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Spatorico) Recchione. She graduated from Delaware Technical College, where she was recognized in Small Colleges Who's Who for her 4.0 GPA.
She was a member of the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church and the Ramblers of Pocono Pines.
Before her retirement, she was a retirement counselor at The Dupont Co. in Delaware. Janet was a very generous and caring wife, mother , sister, grandmother, and aunt.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Mark and Matthew Platt of New Castle, Del.; two daughters , Paula Peterson of Bear, Del., and Alicia Bondurant of Newark, Del.; a brother, Jim Recchione of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and two nieces and nephews.
Rev. Blaik Westhoff will conduct funeral services on Monday, December 14, at 11 a.m. at the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church in Pocono Lake. There will be a visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Pocono Lake Cemetery.

Harold Schmick, 81, of Middle Smithfield Township died in his home on Saturday, Dec. 12, which was his 81st birthday. He was the wife of Lois (Watkins) Schmick at home. The couple was married for 15 years.
Born in Edenville, N.Y., a son of the late Philip and Amelia Schmick. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past five years. His prior residence was in Council Bluffs, Ohio, and Moonachie, N.J.
He was employed as a milkman for Dellwood Dairies in Wallington, N.J., for 38 years until retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-mother , Clara Schmick of Unionville, N.Y.; two sons , Dennis Schmick of Lancaster and Dale Schmick of Wayne, N.J.; a daughter, Pamela Flannery of New Glarus, Wis.; a brother, Rubin Schmick of Unionville, N.Y.; four sisters , Emma Craig of Sarasota, Fla., Rose Kerr of Crystal River, Fla., Mary Lou Charles of New Hampton, N.Y., and Patricia Wilson of Otisville, N.Y.; six step-sons , James Osbun of West Chester, Ohio, Dennis Osbun of Mount Side, N.J., Bruce Osbun of Long Pond, John Osbun of Hackensack, N.J., Rickie Osbun of West Paterson, N.J., and Randy Osbun of West Paterson, N.J.; four step- daughters , Patricia Guthrie of Burkburneet, Texas , Mary Ann Perasso of Dumont, N.J., Vicki Pirro of East Stroudsburg, and Denise Osbun of Kissimmee, Fla.; four step-brothers , George Schmick of Topeka, Kan., Eugene Schmick of Unionville, N.Y., Robert Schmick of Unionville, N.Y., and Craig Schmick of Hugenot, N.Y.; two step-sisters , Janie Sobiek of Warwich, N.Y., Shirley Schmick of Unionville, N.Y.; three granchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Irene (Bentley) Alliegro, 79, died Friday, Dec. 11, at Wayne General Hospital, Wayne, N.J.,
Beloved mother of Patricia Lavorgna, sister of Dan Bentley and devoted grandmother of three.
Born in Paterson, N.J., she lived in Haledon, N.J., before moving to Wayne, N.J., more than 20 years ago. She was a manager at KDI Electronics in Paterson, N.J., many years before retiring.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Lavorgna of Hawley; a brother, Dan Bentley of Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Her sister, Jane Brower, and a brother, Bobby Bentley, predeceased her.

Stanley Freeman Lee, 54, of Minisink Hills, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Kenneth C. Lee and Dorothy Freeman Lee.
He is survived by two brothers , attorney Harry F. Lee of Stroudsburg and attorney Kenneth F. Lee of Mercersburg. Also surviving is a stepmother, A. Naomi Lee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters -in-law, Jean O. Lee and Betty Jane Lee; his companion, Sharon Tattoli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, and Paul Smith's College, Saranac Lake, N.Y., where he majored in hotel administration and management. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Wilkes-Barre, where he served as an alter boy and choir member.
Following graduation, he worked in management positions at the Fernwood Resort, Bushkill, and the Ramada Inn in Delaware Water Gap. In recent years he served as a sports reporter and advertising agent for the North Jersey Newspapers Co. in Hackettstown, N.J.
Stanley was well known locally as a longtime sports referee and umpire, capacities he worked in for more than 30 years. He officiated at the college level throughout eastern Pennsylvania in softball and baseball as well as basketball and soccer at the high school level in the Poconos. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Officials Association and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, officiating athletic contests between the 14 state universities. He was past president and co-founder of the Joseph Carmella Chapter of the PIAA Officials and served as chapter interpreter.
He also served as an umpire and referee at the Keystone State Games held in Harrisburg annually for many years. He was one of the founders of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Officials Organization and a founder of the Pocono Mountain Women's Softball League.
In addition to his officiating, he was a well-known volunteer coach of numerous athletic teams throughout the Poconos and with other coaches, organized teaching clinics for high school athletics.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home. Following the funeral, burial services will take place at the convenience of the family in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre.

His mother , Dorothy Freeman Lee, was chairman of volunteers for the Wyoming Valley Chapter and advisor to the National Red Cross.
