Michael Durso, 53, of Emerald Lakes, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 17 at his home. He is survived by his wife Carol (Theodore) Durso.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Rocco and Jennie Durso, he was a retired court clerk for the Manhattan Criminal Court System and a Pocono resident for the past 13 years.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and President of the Pocono Mountain Caged Bird Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Michael Jr., Cara, and Grace Durso, all of Emerald Lakes; two sisters , Mary Durso of Manhattan, N.Y., and Dora McNamara of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a niece, Dani Petrocelli of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Monsignor Authur Kaschenbach will celebrate a Funeral Mass, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church, Fairview Avenue, Mount Pocono. There will be a visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 and 390 in Mount Pocono.

Lavenne R. "Peggy" Weaver
November 17, 1998
Lavenne R. "Peggy" Weaver, 73, of R.D. 2, Stroudsburg, died early Tuesday morning in the Brookmont Health Center, Effort. She was the wife of Richard J. Weaver, at home, with whom she had celebrated 54 years of marriage on April 17, 1998.
Born on April 29, 1925 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Hazel R. (Dickisson) DeHaven of Stroudsburg and the late George DeHaven and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
A 1943 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, she had worked as a clerk at the former Wyckoff's Department Store in Stroudsburg, was a receptionist for Dr. Samet and also had worked for the former First National Bank on Main Street in Stroudsburg, where she was in charge of the lock boxes.
She was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, was a former Cub Scout Den mother ; and also had worked on the Board of Elections at the voting polls on election days.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by a son, Michael J. Weaver of Gettysburg; a grandson, Richard J. Weaver II of Gettysburg; a brother, Charles M. DeHaven of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the William H. Clark Funeral home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert G. Morrow

Robert G. Morrow, 47, of Henryville, died on Thursday, November 19, at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Amy Myers, at home.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of retired Brig. General Cicil and Nancy (Morrow) Crabb of Indianapolis, Ind. He had been a resident of Monroe County for the past 20 years.
He was employed by Mt. Airy Lodge as a groundskeeper for the past 7 years.
He was the #1 pitcher "Illegal" for the Shawnee Softball League and the Mountain League since 1980. He had a love for children and enjoyed fixing bikes to give to children. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He collected antique bottles for many years.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Jessica of Henryville; and two sons , Ben and Brad, both of Henryville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. John E. Charnock, Jr., officiating.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y., at a later date.

Esther Fay Karpe

Esther Fay Karpe, formerly of Scranton and North Miami Beach, Fla., died Saturday evening in Easton Hospital, Easton, after an illness. She was the widow of M. David Karpe, who died in 1990.
Born in Russia, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Sara (Rusonick) Fiegleman. She was a member of the Beth Shalom Congregation, Hadassah, ORT. She was the co-owner of Trout Lake in Reeders. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a general agent by the Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed playing cards and Mah-jong.
Surviving are three sons : Irving of Stroudsburg, Harold of Boca Raton, Fla., and Alan of Lakeworth, Fla.; a sister, Sadie Goldstein of Scranton; a brother, Larry Fiegleman of Fla.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Pogoda, and three brothers : David, Louis and Joseph.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Ziman Funeral Home, with services by Rabbi Avrohom Herman. Interment will be in Dalton Jewish Cemetery. There is no local shiva.

Josephine R. Kocur, 73, of Stroudsburg died Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of John A. Kocur, who died in 1988.
Born in Middletown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Kornak) Luckasz. She was a resident of Stroudsburg for the past 10 years and prior to that lived in the Linden and Irvington/Newark areas. She was employed as a typesetter with the Prudential Insurance Co. of Newark for 20 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church of Tannersville and a member of the Ladies Guild at the church. She was also a volunteer with Pocono Area Transitional Housing and with Meals-on-Wheels of Monroe County. She was a member of the Tannersville Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by two daughters , Carol Carlucci of Glen Ridge, N.J., and Patricia Keblish of Stroudsburg; a brother, Joseph Luckasz of Clark, N.J.; and a sister, Victoria Bachmann of Linden, N.J.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church of Tannersville with the Rev. Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will be in the Pequest Cemetery in Great Meadows, N.J.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service in the evening at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made to the building fund at the church.

Serena S. Abeloff

Serena S. Abeloff, a resident of Lutherwood Apartments, 1 Lake Scranton Road, Scranton, died Saturday evening in Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Herman B. and Anna (Kilberg) Glantz. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended East Stroudsburg State College and graduated summa cum laude from Marywood College at the age of 49. She served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as an aeronautical engineer.
In her earlier career, she attended theatrical school in New York City, where she worked as a model and acted on Broadway under the stage name Serena Grant. She was active locally in numerous theatrical groups, starring in plays with the Scranton public theater and the Little Theater Guild of Scranton. She was an accomplished creative writer and served as a noted reader throughout the state at civic, religious and educational gatherings.
She was a dedicated athlete her entire life, nature lover and was a well known local Yoga instructor. She was a member of the Machzikeh Hadas Congregation and served as its recording secretary and was an active member of its Sisterhood and religious studies group. She was a member of the Jewish Community Center and served on the United Jewish Appeal Organizations.
She had a very deep love of life and for her family, friends, religion, charitable organizations, and community where she lived enthusiastically. She and her life long smile and warmth will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is a daughter, Emily Adler, Dalton; a son, Edwin, Dickson City; a brother Joseph Glantz, Scranton; a sister, Estelle Gottlieb, New York City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Glantz, who died in World War II, and a sister, Beatrice Glantz.
The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. in the Ziman Funeral Home, with services by Rabbi Mordekahi Fine. Interment will be in Dalton Jewish Cemetery.
Shiva will be observed at the residence of her daughter, Emily Adler, Woodlea Road, Dalton, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m.; Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Machzikeh Hadas Congregation, the Scranton Hebrew Day School or the donor's favorite charity.

Muriel M. Schlecht, 75, of Jackson Township, Stroudsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at her home. She was the wife of the late George C. Schlecht, who died in 1994.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Schork) Newland.
She had worked at their family businesses, George Schlecht Electrical Inc. and Eidivirge Homes Inc., both in Stroudsburg, for 20 years. Prior to that, she had worked as a secretary for Union Carbide in New York City for nine years.
She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert. She was also a member of the Fairview Senior Citizens of Brodheadsville, the Young at Heart Senior Citizens of Kresgeville, and the Newcomers Club of Brodheadsville.
She is survived by three daughters , Eileen, wife of Timothy Glover of Hicksville, N.Y.; Diane, wife of Michael LeMay of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and Virginia, wife of Michael Macasek of Saylorsburg; one son, George Schlecht and his wife Rhonda of Effort; four sisters , Catherine Shaw of Long Island, N.Y.; Ethel Caputo of Spotswood, N.J.; Dorothy Brinley of Seminole, Fla.; and Rosemary Cook of Hazlet, N.J.; two brothers , Robert Newland of Clearwater, Fla., and David Newland of Seaford, Long Island, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church of Gilbert, with the Rev. William McCawley as celebrant. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

November 17, 1998
Gertrude Teeter, 98, of East Stroudsburg, died on Tuesday evening at the Stroud Manor in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Frank R. Teeter.
She was born in Canadensis, a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Viola (Carlton) Krummell. She had been a resident of Monroe County her lifetime. She was a former member of the Golden Age Club of East Stroudsburg.
She is survived by a son, Clark VanBuskirk of Stroudsburg; two grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a step grandson; and a step daughter, Mary Alice Strunk of Pocono Manor.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23, at 10 a.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling. There will be no viewing.

Elizabeth Balint, 71, of East Stroudsburg, died Friday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Louis Balint, at home.
Born on December 17, 1926 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Badjak) Benga and had lived in the area for the past nine years. She was raised in Hungary, came to the United States in the late 1940s. She lived in Old Bridge, N.J., for eight years moving to South River, N.J., where she lived for twenty-five years before moving to East Stroudsburg. She had worked as a banquet waitress for the Hyatt and the Chateau, both in East Brunswick, N.J.
She had attended the St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg and was the ideal homemaker loving to cook and bake.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Louis Balint Jr. of East Stroudsburg; three daughters : Liz DeVoe of Cranbury, N.J.; Susan Hoffman of South River, N.J.; and Kathy Balint of North Brunswick, N.J.; a granddaughter, Sandi Marcinczyk of Sayreville; a grandson, Ronnie Marcinczyk of Sayreville; a great-grandson, Ron Swider of Sayreville; five sisters : Marth Schwab; Mary Island; Irene Mack; Marge Suto; and Olga Kwasney; a brother, John Benga; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, with Father Thomas Sokolowski as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.
There will be a visitation on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Wake Services in the evening by Father Daniel Yenkevich at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Frederick S. Blose, 77, of RR 5 Saylorsburg, died Wednesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
He was the husband of June (Follweiler) Blose. They had observed their 22nd wedding anniversary in April. He was also the husband of the late Ruth (Burkhart) Blose.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Charles and Sadie (Woodring) Blose.
He had been a source inspector for Western Electric, later AT&T, in Allentown for 25 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Mount Eaton Church in Saylorsburg.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Stroudsburg, and the AARP.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Ronald Blose of Cresco and Eric Blose of Kunkletown; a stepson, Gary Andrews of Allentown; a brother, Richard Blose of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Mildred More of Reeders; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday from the Kresge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Allentown. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
