Harry W. Lee Jr., 94, of Stroudsburg, formerly of Jones Boulevard, Palmer Township, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Pleasant Valley Manor in Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Gladys M. (Kugler) Lee, who died in 1992.
Born on May 27, 1904, in Easton, he was a son of the late Harry and Christine Anna (Young) Lee. He was employed by Riccardi and sons in Alpha, N.J., for several years before retiring in 1978. Prior to that he was employed by Lehigh Portland Cement Co. for 22 years and prior to that he was employed by Bethlehem Steel during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Easton. He was a member of the sons of Veterans, Northampton County Unit.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce, wife of Richard Phillips of Stroudsburg; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, from Ashton Funeral Home. Interment was at Easton Heights Cemetery in Easton.

John David Holdren

John David Holdren, 78, of Greentown, died Saturday in the Mercy Hospital, Scranton. He was the husband of the late Louise Holdren, who died in 1985.
Born in Forest City, the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Jones) Holdren, he had lived in the Greentown area since 1945.
He had owned and operated the Golden Horn Restaurant and Bar in Greentown from 1966 until his retirement in 1974. He had also operated Holdren's Garage in Newfoundland from 1950 until 1966.
Dave came to the area with the Civil Conservation Corps in the late 1930s and worked in the construction of parts of Promised Land State Park.
He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
Dave was a member, past president and chairman of the Diabetes Committee of the Tobyhanna-Newfoundland Lions Club; past commander and current judge advocate of Phillips-Zacharias-Phillips Post 859, American Legion, Newfoundland; and past president of the Wayne Pike Tavern Association.
He enjoyed taking his dog Bubba to visit the residents of the Kozy Krest Personal Care Home in Newfoundland.
Dave is survived by a daughter, Susan Zawislak of Hamlin; a son, Robert I. Holdren of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Baker, and two brothers , Burton and Irving Holdren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Darwin H. Carlton, 82, of Stroudsburg, died on Sunday morning at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Doris (Cooke) Carlton at home.
Born in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Homer N. and Verlo H. (Courtright) Carlton. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
He was a 1935 graduate of Stroudsburg High School. After graduation, he along with his twin brother, ran the Fairmount Ice Cream Store on Lower Main Street until 1942. From 1942 until 1945, he worked in Bridgeport, Conn., making artillery for the armed services.
In 1945 he worked at the Gulf Gas Station on Lower Main Street, which he later managed, then owned. He retired in 1978.
He was a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn S. Wismer, the wife of Paul Wismer of Stroudsburg; a granddaughter, Tara Wismer of Stroudsburg; a grandson, Chad Wismer of Stroudsburg; a brother, Harold Carlton of Stroudsburg; and nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Private burial will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.

Detleff A. Hansen of Stroudsburg died on Sunday at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Lorene (Ace) Hansen at home.
Born in Grand Haven, Mich., he was the son of the late Emil H. and Catherine (Donnelly) Hansen.
He was a retired attorney.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Philip Hansen of Albany, N.Y., and John Hansen of Pocono Manor, and two grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Private burial will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.

Wallace G. Ace, 69, of Henryville, died on Tuesday, November 17, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Doris (Scott) Ace and Shirley (Francis) Ace.
He was born in Easton, a son of the late George C. and Irene (Arnt) Ace. He had been a resident of Monroe County for most of his lifetime.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed by Rock-Tenn Paper Mill in Delaware Water Gap for 26 years.
He is survived by 3 sons , George Ace of East Stroudsburg; Raymond Ace of Harleysville; and Wallace Troy Ace of Henryville; three daughters : Harriet Widdoss of East Stroudsburg; Debbie Szczesniak of Marshalls Creek; and Belinda Keiser of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three step- daughters : Mary Ann Hoffner and Karen Esposito, both of Vineland, N.J.; and Bernadette Chew of New York; a sister, Betty Muffley of Cherry Valley; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 20, at 8 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with Rev. Harry Laubach officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Shoemakers. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 7 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Lavenne R. "Peggy" Weaver
November 17, 1998
Lavenne R. "Peggy" Weaver, 73, of R.D. 2, Stroudsburg, died early Tuesday morning in the Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort. She was the wife of Richard J. Weaver, at home, with whom she had celebrated 54 years of marriage on April 17, 1998.
Born on April 29, 1925 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Hazel R. (Dickisson) DeHaven of Stroudsburg and the late George DeHaven and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
A 1943 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, she had worked as a clerk at the former Wyckoff's Department Store in Stroudsburg, was a receptionist for Dr. Samet and also had worked for the former First National Bank on Main Street in Stroudsburg where she was in charge of the lock boxes.
She was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, was a former Cub Scout Den mother , and also had worked on the Board of Elections at the voting polls on election days.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by a son, Michael J. Weaver of Gettysburg; a grandson, Richard J. Weaver II, of Gettysburg; a brother, Charles M. DeHaven of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

William V. Gerard
November 18, 1998
William V. Gerard, 88, of RD#7, East Stroudsburg, died early Wednesday morning in Stroud Manor Nursing Home, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Irene (Pick) Gerard who died March 1997.
Born on February 19, 1910 in White Plains, N.Y., he was a son of the late Pasquale and Maria Gerard and had lived in White Plains, N.Y., until moving to Monroe County in 1956.
He had worked as a printer at Hughes Printing in East Stroudsburg from 1956 until retiring in 1974 and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.
Surviving are a son, Peter E. and his wife Charleen Gerard of RD#7, East Stroudsburg; two granddaughters, Gessika Gerard of Bethlehem and Adrianna Sutton of Hellertown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers .
Graveside memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 21 at Stroudsburg Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Sokolowski from St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg officiating. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Bryden H. "Buck" Newhart

Bryden H. "Buck" Newhart, 66, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday in the Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was the husband of Mary J. (Frantz) Newhart, at home to whom he had been married for 43 years.
Born on October 11, 1932 in Tannersville, he was the son of Olga K. (Anglemire) Newhart of Stroudsburg and the late Harold B. Newhart and had lived in the area all of his life. He owned and operated B. Newhart & sons in Stroudsburg. He had been sales manager at Resort Beverage in Tannersville and formerly was manager of the Sunoco Service Station on Main Street in Stroudsburg. He had also worked at the Paper Mill in Delaware Water Gap.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1106, Stroudsburg; the George M. Kemp Post #346, American Legion, East Stroudsburg; the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club and the Northeastern Bass Masters. He was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two daughters , Terry Fish of Stroudsburg and Kathy Buckwalter, wife of Dave of Cresco; two sons , George Newhart, husband of Lori of Saylorsburg and Jake Newhart, husband of Madge of Stroudsburg; a sister, June German, wife of Al of Riverview, Fla.; two granddaughters, Nicole Fish and Nikki Newhart; four grandsons, Jeff Buckwalter, Mike Buckwalter, Tyler Newhart and Brandon Newhart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Harry Laubach officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
